    What's even more infuriating with the train bots is you just know HasTak is going to look at poor sales of these things and be like "Welp, guess the fans just don't want Masterpiece Combiners then" when it's the bad scale, terrible engineering and high price that keep us at bay. It really is embarrassing to see backroom counterfeiters in China cobble together a better version than the biggest toy maker on the planet.

      I think they'll decide that they'll not do unknown combiners thou I expect they'll learn the lessons from this and do something else, maybe they'll attempt to do Railracer from RID2001, but its clear that they were trying to appeal beyond the Transformers fans to fans of model trains but likely not quite landing with either side of the spectirum, besides, this is likely a Takara varity project as Hasbro isn't releasing it, I mean the characters are pretty much unknown to a lot of western fans as it only appeared in Headmasters anime

      If nothing else, Knock Out is a better TOY than the old mold. Like, that thing is such a pain to handle, and not even that good looking to begin with. Only his Takara Adventure (aka Takara RID15) Bloody Knockout deco is anything nice to look at.
      Bulkhead is more like Skyquake: both better benefit from not STRICTLY being said specific characters, but TRUE Generations designs, because Skyquake clear has his G2 design in his sculpt, and the only part of Bulkhead that is "Prime" is his head design. Everything else owes more to both Animated Bulkhead, as well as Bayverse Hound.
      Legacy Bulkhead is "best of all Bulkheads", and if you look at him from that angle, he's nothing short of amazing!

    I agree with every pick for this list except prime universe Bulkhead. Bulkhead was something new, he had a great pose ability, good details, amazing truck mode, good accessories, including his iconic mace. I remember you said in your wrap up video of legacy wave 1 that Bulkhead was actually good. I get it, he's not fully accurate to the show, but it's not a secret that many transformers fans wanted some beloved characters from the franchise with a pinch of g1 design. So this and Skyquake are the best examples of that. The leaked animated Prowl isn't 100% accurate to the source material as well, but I don't remember you complaining and gushing about that figure. With that said, great video, keep it up bro, you're one of the best TF reviewers out there.

  • @dialNforNinja
    @dialNforNinja Год назад +9

    I'd actually count Bulkhead as the BEST figure of the year, though I'll grant that I'm also basing that on getting him in a damaged box for $20, instead of the now-standard VOY price of ~$33. He's just a big, unapologetic slab of armor and hydraulics with an alt mode that's a refreshing departure from the standard "motorbikes, sports cars, and Optimus" Autobot lineup, no hollows in his limbs and while the whole chest is an empty box it doesn't show from most angles, a really clever way of hiding the fuel tanks away inside the legs and mostly-decently getting the feet to look like tailgates rather than just hanging out on the back of the truck, average to slightly above articulation, seriously, what's not to love here? The overall design may be different from previous renditions of the character, but it preserves the essence of him so you absolutely know who he is at a glance, unlike, say, basically any live action character except Arcee and SS86 Optimus. No, movie characters who you know at a glance were designed as someone else and then given the wrong name with maybe a head swap (camaro Bee/Hot Shot, Jazz/Bluestreak, Hound/Bulkhead, and Mirage/Jazz, for just the most egregious) don't count.
    As for LGC Knockout, yeah his robot mode is only vaguely approximate to what it should be, but the car mode is chef's kiss perfect, and he'd be the first to tell you that's the important part.
    My question is how Pointblank avoided getting put on your list? Horrible proportions, horrible colour clash, trash articulation, targetmaster far below the Prime Wars headmasters let alone WFC standards... He's easily as bad as Skids or HISS Megatron. Did you just repress his existence entirely?

  • @arrowblueberri
    @arrowblueberri Год назад +19

    Yeah I definitely agree with most or all of these. Legacy had so much potential but it falls victim to simplicity and basically just wasted the best opportunity to give us our best modern/reinspired prime designs that we’ve ever gotten: Same with the RED series. I do take one positive off of this video though, that studio series didn’t scratch onto this list and seemed to do everything right this year 🎉😁🎉 Which I agree with, I think studio series is the god gift to transformers movie and toy lovers (like myself). Great list, keep up the good work! ❤

    I disagree with picking Bulkhead for this list. True, very different from what we had on our heads when it first leaked on the listing. But as the thing it turned out to be, I loved it at first sight. I love the square cab chest, and the shameless bot-ness of him, and transforming him is fun! I can totally see his Prime personality through this toy (not Arcee though, on her, we agree she could have been better). I also disagree with backpack kibble being a thing to hate. It is a robot. Backpacks are par for the course. Not that I dislike a slim-looking bot, but to me anything asymmetric adds to any bot's look.

    I personaly love the G1-esque Prime characters.
    I absolutely love Arcee. Yes, she is out of scale in vehicle mode and her backpack is too big (altough you can remove a large section of it) and personaly I would like her to be a bit shorter, like Cliffjumper maybe. My only complaint is that on my copy, her mid section pin is so loose that she can´t stand straight and not even nail polish is able to help too much with that.
    With Knockout, yeah, he is kinda "too chubby" instead of sleek in robot mode, but the car is okay and this release means that I can add this pretty cool character fittingly into my collection, so Im glad for him.
    And I don´t really care about Bulkhead, I think he looks kinda cool, but Im not really interested in him as a character and I have way too many Autobots, so I passed him.

    My problem with the Legacy Prime figures is that Hasbro G1-ified them. I'm not saying it isn't a cool concept but they're revisiting a fan-favourite instalment of the franchise and their decision was to alter them in a way that nobody asked for. The success of Prime's figures is founded on their uniqueness and wide range of ability. They were characteristic and distinguishable from each other. The design scheme of the series allowed the designers to push their limits with the shapes and sizes, and ultimately keep characters from sharing a general boxy G1 silhouette.

    Mostly agree with this list, though I'd personally swap out Skids and Bulkhead for Pointblank and Skullgrin. I genuinely like Bulkhead despite the toy not being accurate to the Prime design, and while Skids is far from flawless, at least the plastic on him feels pretty nice, which is more than what I can say about the aforementioned two.

    Hi PVP,
    When I saw the title of this video I knew that poor Arcee was going to be on this list, especially as you have taken many opportunities to bash the figure. She is one of my favourite figures I have collected over this year. I think she has one of the neatest alt modes and the transformation is fun to do. Of course I have no other attachment to the character because I only watched Transformers G1. Perhaps this is why she doesn't offend me.

    TF Prime was a great show with some awesome figures. I mostly collect CHUG (Or whatever the hell we're calling this line now) and I was almost all in with TF Prime. I even got a few of the preview series. I picked up Arcee, because she's Arcee, but passed on the others and the velocitron repaint of Arcee. (With rare exceptions, and obvious unavoidables like the seekers, I tend to not pick up repaints. Adding a new head to a repaint is still just a repaint to me. They need to change more than the head for me to consider it a retool or remold.) TBH, TF Prime really didn't need new versions. They should have just thrown the old toys into the new boxes.
    The R.E.D. figures are good decoys. I got the 1st wave Prime, Megs and Soundwave. When one of the family children want to play with one of my robots, I hand over the R.E.D.s. The kids love them too. I think they are garbage. I was fine with not converting TF figures, but they are just poor. I hate the plastic they used. They felt cheap. Like KO, dollar store cheap.

    I would replace Skids with Pointblank. Skids is a pretty fun figure and has great articulation but Pointblank feels so off with it's head being the bland G1 head and not the Headmasters anime head despite originally called as Blanker being the Japanese name, has good leg articulation despite being hollow but those arms are just a joke. The target master literally being nothing but a brick and while the alt mode looks good, it doesn't save the figure at all. If Pointblank sacrificed his Targetmaster for better arm articulation and sold it separately as a core class figure then it would have been great but alas it's just a disappointing figure that is not worth 25 bucks at all despite it's size being pretty big. I only recommend Pointblank if you are interested on collecting the targetmasters.
