    MILI VILLAGE
Mili is a coastal village in the southwestern part of Argolis and on the northwestern coast of the Argolic Gulf. It belongs to the municipality of Argos Mycenae and according to the census of 2021 it has 940 inhabitants. It is named after the water mills that existed during the Frankish occupation. It is 10 km from Argos and 11 km from Nafplion.
Ancient Lerna was located in the same area. There in a marsh lived one of the most popular monsters of Greek Mythology, ‘’the Lernaia Hydra’’, which according to legend was the child of the Typhoon and the Echidna. In the older version this monster was a water snake with 6 heads. The exit of this monster is one of the labors of Hercules.
There is also an archaeological site in the area dating back to the Early Bronze Age. Around 2300 BC, house of pottery is played. A great reason for stubbornness that got its name from the number of roof tiles found in the excavations.
On June 13, 1825. An important battle was fought in the area. The acquaintances, the allies of the mills. There before the battle Makrygiannis, as he mentions in his memoirs, the gentleman from the area, creating a warrior after Makrygiannis arrived for help with reinforcements. Hatzimichalis, Mavromichalis and Dimitrios Ypsilantis. The Greeks led by Ypsilantis and vice-chief Mavromichalis Repelled the force of the Egyptian army of Ibrahim Pasha and thus saved Nafplio from its threat.
The Castle of Lerna is located at the top of the hill that gives an altitude of 165 M. It is a polygonal building with 7 towers, which was built by the Franks in the fourteenth century and was used as a defensive fort during the Greek revolution of 1821. Today there are remains of the castle. Can anyone see by going up to the top of the hill by car or by hiking.
Near the castle there is also the chapel of Prophet Elias.
Just outside the village of the mills to the south are the ruins of a tower which the inhabitants called it. The tower of Vassilopoula from the daughter of a lord who lived there it is said that there was an underground passage that connected the tower to the beach, from where the queen descended to bathe undisturbed. There are 2 versions about this. One says that the queen was very beautiful and difficult to approach, and the other version that she was very ugly, so she took care to hide.
If you are in the area, it is also worth visiting the railway station, which opened in 1886 and closed in 2010, when a certain line stopped operating. Corinth-Argos,-Tripoli-Kalamata.
There were also train lines that started from 2 points on the coastline of the mili village and ended at the station lines. Some pieces of them still exist today. On them they transported goods that were brought by ships and placed them in train cars to supply other areas. At the station you can admire these old trains which hopefully will be preserved and will be nice exhibits for a future museum that tells why it will be created. It should also be pointed out that there is also the historic carriage of the screws that carried the bones of Theodoros Kolokotronis.
Mili village is known for their famous souvlaki, there are taverns with wonderful souvlaki and nowadays, however, the point of reference was in the old days and before the new Corinth Tripoli highway was created, when KTEL buses passed through there with destination Tripoli, Kalamata Sparta and stopped for souvlaki. Also, maybe even older. Stop that the train also made at the village station. People bought skewers from the street vendors who approached the windows of the carriages skewers, straws, with oregano salt, lemon and a small child of bread.
In the village there are several rooms for rent and accommodation. There are also cafes and taverns for coffee and food, as well as beautiful beaches organized and not for swimming.
Near the southern beach of the mills and next to the mouth of the river there is a German machine gun. It was used during World War II.
