    I like that they put Ohio State up there because it shows they value teams playing tough non-conference games. More teams will schedule tough non-conference games which is what fans love to see.

      Adam Prince I I will give it to Penn State they did play pit and Temple but only one the latter which really hurt them and ultimately decided the fate of their season. Ohio State still had the tougher non-conference just based off going to play in Oklahoma who showed by the end of the year to be an excellent team

    • @thehighcs

      WOAH, hold on there Adam Prince. You mean to tell me that the Committee favors difficult non-conference games? Then, I employ you. Take a little glance at Washington's non-conference schedule and then say that exact same comment again.

    Penn State beating Wisconsin shows everything. We were missing 3 starters for our defense when we played Pitt, and Michigan. He says Pitt like they weren't good but remember... they beat Clemson! In my opinion, Penn state well deserves the playoff spot over Ohio state.

  • @nflprimehighlights1060
    @nflprimehighlights1060 8 лет назад +16

    So basically he's saying we should just ignore records and not give the teams that won the games they were supposed to win any credit even though Ohio State lost to Penn State lets not give Penn State credit because it was a fluke because Ohio State is way more talented it doesn't work like that they're are consequences to losing it doesn't matter if Ohio State is the better team they lost And it doesn't matter if Michigan is best team in the Big 10 they lost twice and they should be Penalized meaning they shouldn't be in the Playoffs games aren't won on paper they're won on the field.

    • @HDRookie
      @HDRookie 8 лет назад +3

      Even with a head to head loss though, Ohio State has a better record than Penn State. H2H is usually considered a tiebreaker.
      The playoff isn't the Big 10. Penn State may be ahead in the Big 10 but overall with out of conference games they are not.

    • @nflprimehighlights1060
      @nflprimehighlights1060 8 лет назад

      HDRookie It doesn't matter Penn State won the Big 10 west not Ohio State

    • @HDRookie
      @HDRookie 8 лет назад +3

      First of all, West, get your facts straight.
      Every Penn State argument I see is literally just basing it on one thing, there's a plethora of reasons why Ohio State should be ahead.
      Why would #2 not get in over #7?
      Why would the team with the better record not make the playoff?
      Why would a team with a harder schedule and less losses not make it?
      Why would a team with more points scored and less points allowed get beat out?
      OSU also beat a team that destroyed PSU. If it wasn't for Iowa vs Michigan, a game that OSU and PSU didn't affect at all OSU would be in the championship game anyway?
      Literally the only argument is they won their division because of one quarter, and the division shouldn't even matter for non division rankings like the AP Top 25 in the first place. It's clear which team is more deserving. Watch the video and listen to what he's saying. Conference championships mean something but not everything - because they can't explain everything. In this case it shows that the format doesn't always favor the best team(s).

    • @datbenji4684
      @datbenji4684 8 лет назад +2

      Isaiah Prout no he's saying that if a team like penn state doesn't win 2 games and Ohio state wins all of its other games then they should be ahead regardless of conference championships because it's not close. Ohio state is way better than penn state

    • @blutoblutarsky6529
      @blutoblutarsky6529 8 лет назад

      Isaiah Prout they ranked teams one to 128. they don't go by conference they just look at the team the only time they enter Conference titles and head to head is if they are equal. Penn State had two losses Ohio State only had one. Ohio States in. that's how it works in the NBA that's how it works in MLB that's how it works in the NFL how can you not get that through your thick head they only use Conference titles and head to head as tiebreakers if the teams are close or have the same record

    • @joerichardson2278
      @joerichardson2278 8 лет назад +2

      saying that we should ignore head to head is a little silly I think. Touting stats that support your thinking that OSU is better than Penn State (more yards, ToP) only strengthens the argument that Penn State is actually better..considering they won the game in spite of losing in those statistical categories. Look at common opponents in the same portion of the season (since most people would agree team skill isn't static across the season)...PSU crushed MSU, and OSU struggled against MSU less than two weeks apart. Plus, Pitt has become a quality loss in 2016 (yeah, I said it). USC and Pitt are the only two teams I can think of that have a win over two teams that a currently ranked in the top 10.

    • @joerichardson2278
      @joerichardson2278 8 лет назад

      I never said Penn State was a playoff team. And I never said that Michigan wasn't good? Also saying that "OSU wins that game 9/10 times" is not good reasoning. We only have data for the one game that was played...and apparently it was the 1/10 that we got, so that's the one we can draw conclusions from.

    • @ericgarcia3640
      @ericgarcia3640 8 лет назад

      Joe Richardson Head to head only matters when teams have equal resumes. Penn State has 2 losses and OSU has 1 so head to head should not even be considered. OSU played the toughest schedule in the country while Penn State had a horrible OOC schedule and no quality OOC wins.

    I think every argument so far is valid, however let's not forget that the mighty Ohio St. not only lost against Penn St. but also struggled against Northwestern, and had overtime wins both against Wisconsin and Michigan. Even though I do think Ohio St. is one of the top 4 teams, we are putting too much emphasis against a victory against Oklahoma, who let's not forget also lost to Houston. After next week I would not have a problem if each conference champion had a trip to the playoffs and Ohio St. was the first one out.

    Well.... You're right about the CFP committee's rankings being childishly simple. But obviously you were dead wrong about Penn State, and so was the CFP committee. PSU lost twice to two GOOD teams, to Pitt by a late FG (top 25 AND beat #3 CLEMSON), and to Michigan in the "big house" with a depleted roster.
    Otherwise, PSU blew out other conference teams that gave both Michigan and OSU trouble, including Iowa that beat Michigan, and then shredded Wisconsin's defense.
    As far as the head-to-head with OSU, they absolutely dominated the second half. You say it was special teams only? No way - it was a WHOLE TEAM WIN. You can't just say that's a fluke.
    Not to mention, OSU had the final 5 minutes after the TD return off the blocked kick to score - and ALL they had to do was kick one field goal just to tie it up. Did they even get past the 50? NO!!!!
    Here's OSU's final possession - from the 20 after touchback:
    1 yd Run
    5 yd Pass
    False Start Penalty on OSU (-5)
    15 yd Pass
    4 yd Pass
    3 yd Pass
    8 yd Pass
    Incomplete
    Incomplete
    Sack

    Turnover on Downs

    Do any of you guys acknowledge the the difference between the college football playoff and any other college sport playoff platform. The CFP is subjective still!!!! The playoffs by definition are the opportunity for teams to settle whose best on the field. The number one element that matters most is winning! The NCAA basketball tournament is based on winning not by how much or by any other stats. The NCAA baseball playoff, the hockey playoff, track and field championships, wrestling, volleyball and every other sport uses a system of criteria which when satisfied, means you qualify. I know one of he limiting factors for football is the number of games played by teams that would compete for a championship. Injuries in football are par for the course. Get over it because the players did sign up for this. The playoffs should be able to allow every major college conference champion, period. That puts us at 5 champions automatically qualifying. The other at large teams are seeded 6, 7 and 8. Use the rankings to to seed the champions 1-5 then add teams 6-8 in an 8 team bracket and let them have at it. The power 5 conference champs are automatic bids. The at large are the MAC, Mountain West and the wild card team who would be the team who had the best year and not a conference champion. This team would be your 8 seed. That would make Ohio State who is this year's best non conference champion face the number one seed Alabama in the first round. Why is that fair? The answer is criteria. Everything about college screams CRITERIA. Graduation requirements, recruiting, eligibility, financial aid, you name it. In order to have unbiased, achievable success that is is 100 percent credited to the team and not a committee, you need criteria. The NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, BOXING, Wrestling and any other sport only values on thing above everything else: Winning! Win your conference, period. Be a champion! To give a Cinderella element to a team who should be considered among the best but not a champion, they get to be the 8th seed. The consequence is you play the #1 seed first. That true in every sport.
    The Media who is influenced by history, discounts the right for new teams to make history. How can a Western Michigan play for a national title? They should have a right to answer all questions on the field because they are a champion! Penn State should play in a playoff game to try to win a national title because they are a champion. They are the champions of the best conference in the country. If you don't like Penn State, then your team shouldn't have lost to them. Penn State is the BIG TEN Champion because they satisfied the criteria to be in that game and then they won it! Michigan and Ohio State want the rewards of a champion without satisfying the criteria. In order to get rewards and fail to satisfy criteria you need favor. Someone has to like you or respect you MORE than they respect criteria. Criteria is the one thing that make everything fair and authentic. Could you graduate any level of school without satisfying the graduation criteria? If so, then that school is corrupt. That's why there are NCAA compliance regulators to make sure all NCAA schools follow the rules that everyone else has to follow. Why is the college football playoff and different? That makes it not fair and the NCAA needs to fix it ASAP!

Ohio State isn't playing a conf game, That's a free no loss for them. While Penn is playing another game on top of already beating Ohio State. Top talent wise Penn has played Michigan(Lost) Ohio State (won) And they are gonna play Wisconsin for a BIG 10 championship Lets say (win) for the sake of if they lose they are out regardless. While Ohio State played Oklahoma (won) Wisconsin (won) Penn State (Lost) And Michigan (Won). Ohio State has 1 more big win than Penn. But they lose the head to head with Penn State on top of not competing for a conference title. Id give the edge to Penn State but thankfully that's not my call to make.

    Once again, Cowherd's opinion is half-baked nonsense.
    If he's going by a theory that Penn St goes ahead of Ohio State on a basis of head-to-head record, then Pitt should come out and claim that they should rank ahead of Penn St regardless of the overall record, see how things just get messed up real quick?
    Penn St having 2 losses really takes them out of any right of being ahead of Ohio State no matter what.
    Having better overall record always takes priority over head-to-head record, I mean Washington fans could say they are better than Alabama and they may very well be, but having 1 loss takes away any validity of such claim until proven wrong on the field, and it should be that way.
    And comparing college football to NFL is totally wrong again on Cowherd's part, because a NFL team plays the same 4 teams twice every season, and the level of competition is clearly different depending upon which division it is, not to mention the dynamics of having to play the same team twice in a season four times.
    It's amazing how much BS Cowherd is spouting off these days, I never got an impression that he was this bad.

      Cowherd isn't arguing that Penn St should be ahead of ohio st, he agreed ohio st was better. He just wishes the committee would have more guts and put USC and Oklahoma, both of which are clearly better, in front of Penn St. And he wasn't comparing the level of competition of the NFL and NCCAA either, he was making a point about how weak the selection committee is, because they'd put the Giants above the Broncos

    • @mackymode8185
      @mackymode8185 8 лет назад

      So why is he whining about the committee being gutless? What is his point? He doesn't have a point.

    • @mackymode8185
      @mackymode8185 8 лет назад

      The committee's job is to be as objective as possible, not cater to subjective fanboys like Cowherd. Ranking the teams based on overall record goes without saying, that has been pretty much how the rankings have been like in college football so why even make a case about it now?
      As for NFL comparison, I'm saying overall record for NFL does not have the same context of the college football in the first place so using NFL as an analogy by Cowherd is simply wrong.
      I think he mentioned Giants and Chiefs, not Broncos, but in any case, NFL is so much about individual match-ups instead of the overall talent of the roster that it's not easy to project the outcome of the game between any two teams if they haven't played each other yet.
      But NFL system isn't perfect either, as a weak division will still be guaranteed a playoff spot for the top team even if they have a losing record, and teams in other divisions with winning records may not get a spot, this is clearly not a fair system either.

    • @erikzaragoza835
      @erikzaragoza835 8 лет назад

      His point is that the committee is garbage, and well obviously you're one of those people cowherd says is paralyzed by the records. No one wants to see Washington v. Alabama over Michigan v. Bama. Washington is winning in a weak PAC12 and lost to a USC team that lost to bama by 52-6. So if the committee really was trying to be "as objective as possible," they should probably put michigan in the 4 spot.

    the committee did a great job Colin it's not just records. Alabama is the clear number 1 so you can't even question why they are there. Ohio st is the best best one loss team and only lost to a top 10 team. They are the only team in the country whose only loss is to another top 10 team. On the road. In somewhat flukish manner. They are a clear number 2. Who exactly would colin put above Clemson that has a lesser record? Washington is the one team that I could say you could move out despite their record but even then they played 1 bad game. Other than that they have blown out everyone basically. As for 6 and 7. The committee is 1000% right for saying sorry Wisconsin and Penn State but you both lost to Michigan and Penn State you shouldn't have even been on the field with them. So no you are not jumping michigan. Even if with a conference "championship" (the team with the best record is Ohio State last time I checked they have one loss) it doesn't matter Michigan would have beaten the big 10 champion and the team the big 10 champion beat. Sorry but you aren't climbing over that wall. As for Colorado they can't jump michigan even if they win their conference. Michigan beat you and knocked out your quarterback. Sit down. That leaves the two oklahoma teams. OU lost to Ohio state badly and Oklahoma state lost to a team i've never heard of. Controversial or not the game should have never been that close if you are a top 10 team. Every team in the top 4 would have beat that team by at least 4 touchdowns.
    So Colin what exactly is your beef with the top 10 because it's pretty spot on by the comittee. The only debatable teams are Washington and Michigan and maybe even clemson but the committee has them all bunched together at 3,4, and 5 and they even said it was close.

    a LOT of people are crying about Ohio State making it over Penn St, but the problem is you people want one criteria to exist at the exclusion of all other criteria. If H2H matters so much, PSU has no justification for being ahead of Michigan. PSU had TWO metrics in their favor, as compared to Ohio State, and about 12 against them. their resumes weren't. even. close. at least the committee has been consistent in their assessment of resumes in the entire, huge 3 year history of the CFP. anyone who tries to whine otherwise are simply mad because their favorite team wasn't handed a Playoff spot.

    OSU beat Michigan State by ONE point TWO weeks ago.
    PSU beat Michigan State by 33 last week.
    OSU and Michigan had very strong starts to the season, but have been struggling as of late. OSU has BARELY won their last two games. Look at what PSU has accomplished later in the season. Destroyed Michigan State, destroyed Iowa. Can OSU or Michigan say the same? Can OSU or Michigan say they are the division champs? Nope. The argument that OSU is "clearly better" than PSU is asinine. In sports, the only way to settle who the question of the better team is by head to head matchups. PSU came out with the W. How about you also bring up sacks and tackles for loss from the OSU/PSU game? Don't tell half the story. A win is a win.

      I think that we can all agree that Michigan, Penn State, and OSU should be in over Washington. They are going to get rolled by Alabama. The committee is all kinds of wacked this year. They said they want the 4 best teams in football to be in playoffs, but then they put Washington in because of their record. But we have to remember Washington is in one of the poorest competition conferences. If they want the 4 best teams, it should be Alabama, Michigan, OSU, and Clemson (no specific order other than Bama at 1).

    What? They're based on records because that's who the best teams are. You want to put Penn State over Wisconsin? Go ahead. It's still by record. Their isn't any team that has an argument this year to be ahead of a team with a better record. Michigan shouldn't be ahead of Washington, and Michigan is the best 2 loss team and Washington is the worst 1 loss team. Maybe Oklahoma over Colorado? It's not sorted by record, it's the best team. If it was sorted by record then Western Michigan would be the 2, according to that theory. Also, if it's by record then why isn't West Virginia (10-2) ahead of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State? I agree with you on a lot of things but you are wrong about this one.

      awill19 That punishes teams for playing hardet out of confrence teams. So if UNC played Liberty, Ohio, and UMass as their out of confrence teams but lost two ACC games they would be 10-2. But VT plays Bama, Washington, and Ohio State and lose all 3 but won all ACC games theyd be 9-3. In your opinion a 9-3 VT with losses to 3 top 5 teams shouldnt make it in over a team with losses to Duke and GT? (this is all hypothetical btw. none of this actually happened.)

    • @awill19
      @awill19 8 лет назад

      josh mcdonald well no, that's why you would have to even out the conferences and balance out the schedules the way the NFL does.

    • @joshmcdonald1141
      @joshmcdonald1141 8 лет назад

      awill19 That's not how it works at all. The NCAA has no power over scheduling. schools have to play their confrence and 3 OOC teams. Two schools will agree to a game and that's how you get the out of confrence (OOC) games. Changing this would ruin CFB for what it is. Schools schedule their teams, not the NCAA. I fixed schedule would ruin all the great rivalries and matchups we see every year. Also you cant just easily make a balanced schedule for 128 teams. The NFL they can because of how divisions work and their is only 32 teams.

    • @awill19
      @awill19 8 лет назад

      josh mcdonald I believe you could make it work. It would take the formation of another association that would include the Power 5 conferences and the addition of some other group of 5 teams. Then you would re align the conferences to make all conferences the same amount teams. Most rivalries would be taken care of by being in the same conference. Sure some would fade, but others would develop. Unbalanced scheduling and un-even conferences cause this constant debate and questioning. The question is do you want it fixed or do you want to have an argument everytime this happens. I get it, a lot of people like the drama and chaos of it all. I'm just not one of those people.

    • @joelaton1062
      @joelaton1062 8 лет назад

      But how are you gonna decide how to even out conferences? Because teams are cyclical. Take Alabama the last 10 years. They have been dominant. The decade before that they were a laughing stock. Texas was good the decade before, but has struggled this decade. You would constantly be reshuffling conferences to try and balance them out every 5-10 years.And nobody want's their rivalries to die.

    Nope nope nope nope. The Top 4 teams are chosen by how good they performed in the season, not by how good they are. So yeah although Michigan would probably destroy Washington at the end of the day Washington performed better in the season so they get to be in the playoffs.
    For those still not convinced, I'll put it this way. Imagine there's a science class and the top 15 kids in the class get to take AP science next year and the bottom 15 have to take non AP science. The final spot comes down to two students: Joe and Albert. Joe isn't that smart but he was able to get a 91. Meanwhile, Albert got a 2400 on his SAT but he only got a 90 in the class. In this situation, I'm pretty sure most of you would pick Joe to move on, even though Albert is the smarter student.
    Same thing with college football. It's about how well you performed, not how good you are.

      Obviously he doesn't. He couldn't beat penn state and he struggled against a bad Michigan state team. Penn state is playing better football and is the better team right now. If you deny that its probably because you're an Ohio state fan and you're being bias.

      Jason Burger I hate to say this because I am a die hard Michigan fan. But Ohio State is way better than Penn state. OSU and Michigan would hold their own way better in playoffs than Penn state.

      And I'd like to say you're right I really would buy Michigan was playing pretty poorly the few weeks leading up to the OSU game. OSU beat Michigan state by 1...penn state rolled MSU. MSU was all over Ohio state and should've just took it to overtime instead of trying to go for two because they actually would've had a shot to win in OT. Ohio state has very little chance against a good defense and can't outscore and hold a good offense like Clemson and Alabama or even Washington. They are not a complete team right now. Penn state is playing as good if not better football than anybody else right now. They're playing tight defense and putting up good numbers on offense.

      You have some good points. I think that we can all agree that Michigan, OSU, and Penn State should definitely be in over Washington. They are going to get rolled by Alabama. Michigan, OSU, and Penn State would have a better chance than Washington.
