@@kingkatguitara265 Ex air Con Engr here: Very, very expensive. The whole dash has to come out for starters, to replace the heater matrix with the dual "radiators" (Evaporator to be specific with the AC coil.) Then the electrics: another nightmare. The condenser coil (Fitted in front of the Engine radiator )is probably pretty straight forward. The only "easy" part of the operation is probably bolting the compressor onto the engine! CashedOutCars ac delete is not for weight reduction.it’s to free up power cause it runs on the crank of the engine.removing it equals less belts the engine has to move
The amount of power it draws when the compressor clutch isn’t engaged is negligible, the biggest benefit is space and weight. The power freed up will be very small, but I agree it’s a very slight benefit. I’ve had mine disconnected for months and it feels no different than with it
My personal list: Stickerbombing, Rattle can painting (body panels not valve covers and stuff), obnoxiously large shift knobs, chassis mount wings, “drift charms”, cross tape on headlights, canards, excessive camber/stance. And a hate of mine (not a mod) is just people “abusing” miatas, since its a cheap car people feel the need to just break, rice, mistreat, and cheap out on parts. Sad to see such a great vehicle not built to sema levels of cool as say a supra or a skyline as often just because of its price tag and hp number even tho the rest of the car is just as amazing.
@@johnsonbecomer6262 i personally dont like stickers on my car. A few here or there for some people can be nice but sticker bombing implies the entire piece is covered in stickers. Like how you would do the bottom of a skateboard.
First mods i did on my first MX5: - Galaxy shifter boot - Dragonball shift knob - QSP deep dish steeringwheel - Toycar cityplan floormats - a USB LED disco light - Rising sun sticker - velvet wrapped tombstone - carbon wrapped ashtray - french spec yellow headlights - Yoshimura sticker ON the exhaust(bad idea) - Ducktail spoiler - RS front and back lip - vinyl tinted window on Hardtop - white markered the tires - dragon center wheel cap stickers
IMO the people at Mazda knew what they were doing and did the leg work to make a pretty much perfect car. I don't see many mods which will improve it. The attention taken to detail in conception is amazing - even down to panel testing various exhaust configs in order to choose the most pleasing tone, and designing the door mirrors to deflect airflow away from the occupants faces when the top is down. My UK spec 1995 1.8iS has a hot air intake because a previous owner had fitted one. I've added a homemade heat shield. As for modifying the pop ups I've never understood why anyone would do that. They are the signature of the car. Maybe the sealed beam units are a bit feeble at night? Dunno. Here in Europe we have H4 units, so with decent quality bulbs and properly adjusted lights I've found no problems lighting my way through the mountains of the Ardeche (France). I'd never fit a body kit, ducktail or wing - just more opportunities for water to get trapped and cause more tinworm IMO. But my biggest hates are stancing or those truly ridiculous dildo sized gear shifters, if you're gonna fit one of those you may as well make it penis shaped and pink and be done with it. Great video BTW.
The few improvements i recommend are a aluminum radiator, JDM OEM Fog lights, NB suspension, Canvas Convertible Top, wilwood front brake calipers, stronger shifter, stage 1 Clutch kit, Tubular sway bar and a stronger heat shield. My car has all these for QoL improvements. I also added cruise control, a oem power antenna and the original Mazda Miata R-Package Spoiler and Front lip. Never cheap out on a car people!
Tbf those long “dildo shifters” do serve a purpose IN A DRIFT CAR, if you are gonna drift they are GREAT because they allow you to shift then get back to the steering wheel as soon as possible TLDR: long shifters let you get less time away from steering wheel since you don’t have to reach as far away

For motorsports use you'll definitely want to lower the car as you're not going to be able to hit camber targets at stock ride height and it rolls a lot at that height. Mine is mildly lowered and still needed extended lower balljoints to hit camber targets and rolls A LOT. I am going to Xidas and it'll be significantly lower which is kind of a bummer but is necessary to get the performance I am after.
The ac removal is not for weight reduction. It’s to remove it from the belt and it does release more power than any of the other mods mentioned. I agree however, not worth roasting in traffic for. I loved the fact I could just reach back and flip my top up and go to ac when I made the wrong decision topless or not.
The A/C system doesn’t add any drag to the motor unless it’s turned on. The A/C system weighs about 45 pounds so it’s not bad to remove if it doesn’t work or if you care more about performance than comfort.
The only mods I would do on a Miata are quality of life improvements like LED blubs, otherwise I would do whatever I can to keep the car as stock as possible. I wish production of the NA Miata was much longer, or I wish it could be revived. Imagine having a new NA Miata made exactly like how it was in the 90s out in the streets now
100% correct! There’s so many that could be added like big wings on a stock street car or worse fake wings screwed to the trunk lid but you hit some good ones.
I removed my AC, the condenser was rotted out anyway and I needed room for intercooler piping. Doesn't get too hot in NZ apart from a few days in summer and it's not my daily driver. I did add more insulation around the tunnel and floor and heat shielding around the dump pipe as the floor gets hot on a turbo Miata. Definitely makes it bearable on longer drives on a hot day.
Tbf, i just bought a miata 2004 a week ago, its in amazing condition, absolute 10/10 low mileage, serviced every 700-1k miles, its got no body scratches at all, only on 66k miles. ilmotorsport 40% stiffer rubber motor mounts are actually really decent. If you have to replace your motormounts anyway just roll with those. The extra vibrations aren't too bad and it actually reduces drivetrain flex. If you combine it with the ilmotorsport diff mounts you will find yourself missing shifts less often because of the whole drivetrain flexing. I have both in my dailly.
I’ll have to check them out! That sounds similar to the OEM competition mazda mounts that are available. Not so stiff that they ruin the car to daily drive but a good step up. Enjoy!
The three best mods that i would recommend to ANYONE (though #3 comes with an asterisk): 1. Lightweight flywheel, 2. LSD rear end (i think mine was from an FC Rx-7, it's been a while), and 3. Replacing all mirrors with a set of cockpit mirrors from an F-4 Phantom! The first two are no-brainers, but the third one turned out WAAAAAAY better than I'd hoped, but with a catch. They mount internally by design (they're from a fighter jet after all) and they're slightly convex. Took about a month for my eyes to adjust and stop seeing double each time I looked in them. And because i didn't fab taller brackets and just used the stock aircraft cockpit mounts, putting the top up renders both side mirrors uselss and leaves BARELY enough of yhe rear view mirror useful enough for legality. I never put my top up so this isnt an issue for me. But removing the stock side mirrors cleaned up airflow so much that it basically eliminated cabin buffeting entirely! All i feel now is the minor eddy current from around the windshield. But best of all, they look sooooo fucking cool!❤❤❤
That’s a good point. I will say that mines been off for years and I’ve done lots of spirited driving and all day autocross days (continues lapping) and haven’t had a problem, but it certainly can cause problems
It’s a Boss Frog double diagonal clear view with harness bar, the radio is a 7012B, it’s a cheap unit but it works decent especially for the price. Boss frog went out of business unfortunately but if you search 7012B the radio will come up. Good luck!
I agree with 95% of the list. However, as someone who lives in a temperate/cold environment, I am biased towards an AC delete, especially if your car is a soft top. It not only acts as weight reduction and gets rid of an accessory pulley on your engine that saps power, the real gain is in engine temps. Cooling is the Achilles heel of Miata performance driving, and even without a reroute, getting rid of that AC condenser in front of the radiator will do wonders for an overheating engine. That’s my two cents, it’s a free mod, and reversible if you’re careful while removing and can afford some spare freon ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That’s a good point, and I am considering doing it on my car since it’s a weekend toy and cruiser, and not my daily driver. For MOST Miata owners though, an AC delete probably isn’t worth it
I personally like the sleepy eye if done right. I’ve seen them setup where the regulator for the headlight motor is adjusted to about half way with light bars instead
m8 I am deleting my A/C, but only because the new engine I'm going to swap in doesn't have an A/C compressor. also going to delete my power steering so I don't have to go to the gym as much
For a lot of people an AC delete makes sense, I almost took mine out to make room for my turbo stuff. I have my power steering deleted, it certainly makes you work for it a bit!
Im guilty of: 1 but i made a heat shield and did advanced the timing also port matched the head, intake and, exhaust manifolds while i was doing the headgasket after noticing an oil leak from between the head and the block, 5 my style bar is weird tbh i cant find any other like it, its not like all the other ones that you can just feel how flimsy they are, this one has a 3/8 inch thicc bar that goes across the bottom with bolt holes for a racing harness and the tubing is thicc like 3/32, it looks custom made, 6 i wouldnt say my tires are super cheap but they are inexpensive, but i go with 195/50/r15 lexani lx 313, just because theres a good balance for me between grip and slip, 8 i have a manzo catback and high flow cat, yeah it drones, but i just wear ear plugs on long drives, 9 my miata has no a/c or p/s and i live in 90+ degree weather, i just roll the windows down and unzip the rear plastic.
Building my Miata to be a performance/street car. Even when I eventually install a turbo kit I’m keeping my ac. I live in central Alabama. I need ac lol. If you want a slide happy car just keep a full set of stock wheels with crappy tires for drift spares. Stock na wheels are cheap af. Try to avoid sliding with the open diff. Trust me on that one I have a lot of stories from my first Miata lol.
I got the yonakas in box waiting to install, and your car height looks exactly what I want. What settings do you run? I always heard offhand the style bars would never help, never seen or knew that could just horrifyingly fold forward like that
I’ve got a full review video up on my channel that will show you exactly how I have em! Yeah style bars trick a lot of people into the illusion of safety

It looks like you've got NB wheels on yours, correct? If that's what I'm seeing, can you tell me if there are any downsides? I'm asking because I want to put those NB wheels on my NA. Thanks!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but for the intake wouldn't you avoid the issue of sucking in hot air if you install a heat shield between the headers and the intake?
A heat shield certainly would help! If you’re sucking in colder air than stock there will be a benefit, lots of people slap on this style filter and think they’ll make more power but it’s not really true, especially when it’s next to hot headers like this
As for number 10, the reason people do that is because it's a pain in the a$$ to find decent wider wheels in 4x100. You can find 15x10 wheels. But then your next problem is finding tires to fit that. I know this because I've been doing research for the past few months on this. However if you have any tire suggestions for that size, please lmk.
I agree on the 14 inchers. Take a look at Kosei, Konig etc for a good selection of less wise 15s! That said, a wider 15 with a good tire can surprisingly fit well with a stock or near stock body and grip like crazy
1. Air Intake…. No 2A. Aftermarket Tail Lights…. No 2B. Headlight Mod…. No 3. Coil-Overs…. No 4. Race Motor Mounts…. No 5. Mouse Trap (Style Bar)…. No 6. Aftermarket Wheels…. No 7. Slick Tyres…. No 8. Aftermarket (Performance) Exhaust… No 9. Air conditioning Delete…. No 10. Wide Body Kit…. No. After 20 years of NB ownership, still 100% OEM (aside from an aluminium radiator and silicone hoses). Even have the OEM head unit with inbuilt 6 CD stacker and OEM MiniDisc module (but I have added integrated Bluetooth and steering wheel controls from a 2003 Mazda 323 Protégé - still OEM, as in manufactured by Mazda, just not specifically for an MX-5, but by definition “OEM”)
You put in the intake wrong, you need to reroute it and face it forward. Money Pit over on Donut Media has a great example on how to properly do that. Also most of these "regrets" are very useful mods to the car and a Miata is best in curvy roads imo. So stiff suspension, upgraded engine mounts, wide tires/ wheels are perfect mods.
That’s how this kit is, which is what makes it ineffective. Yes, performance mods are great, when done right. Heavy wheels and tires, improper spring rates that don’t match damping, and stuff like that ruins the experience and performance of the car.
Looking to get an NA miata down the road, hopefully can save the money for it later this year, I will most def be changing to led lights for the rear lights and turn signals, though the pop ups, imma hope I can just change to an LED bulb, for the AC, since it’s a project car, imma probably put an electric AC if I can, and just get a better alternator, and also move the battery to the rear of course
didn’t mention aftermarket steering wheels are dangerous bc you delete your airbag and you’ll need that more than a roll bar since took over crashes are rare compared to head on collisions and mild fender benders
Certainly, but that one is self explanatory. People think “style bars” are real roll bars and that they’ll protect them. Removing a wheel with an airbag is an obvious safety risk
I probably will put fake roll bars on my 92 MX. WAY easier to install and I don’t plan on rolling over my car. Now, if I do, it is probably part of the master plan.
Well I’m guilty of the sleepy eye mod but my car doesn’t look stock at all. I used to have the hot air intake have since put the stock box back in. I have heavy knock off wheels (xxr) and cheap tires ( I was broke and needed tires at the time) if you look in my channel you will see the car that’s guilty of this stuff. I’m currently waiting on my wide body but do plan to actually make the wheels fit and later down the line get wide wheels to fit in it for a meaty look.
That’s an interesting point that I hadn’t considered. The “sleepy eye” mod that a lot of people do is make the stock lights pop half way up, meaning your lights wouldn’t shine in the right direction. Low profile lights here certainly would have an advantage!
@@CashedOutCars Oh gotcha. Sorry, I use sleepy eye and the low profile headlights mod kinda as interchangeable terms. But yeah on mone I got the jass low profiles because at night it was kinda difficult to see the road. 6'1 with stocks seats lol

What kind of Roll bar do you have, and what kind of stereo? Have been trying to find a half decent of both for my Miata 🙏🏻 links?!
Yeah it’s not really a bad mod, just personal preference on that one. Less drag too when they’re up
Ha this is the first time iv seen it but love it shame I have a mk2
Joke's on you! I don't have any of these mods 'cause I can't afford a Miata!
Jokes on me at this point too because I want another and prices are insane😂
Me, who doesn’t own a miata:
*hehe* *boi*
Great info, thanks for sharing.
Can’t do an Ac delete if your car didn’t come with ac
True that
Good tips.. I am searching for a good NA.. and dont want a bunch of crap on it. DMAX
5:06 I drive with crappy rear tyres
and it makes the expirience really really fun idk what you are talking about bro :D
It certainly makes it fun to get a bit sideways! Like I said these tires have a bit too much grip to easily slide without really pushing the car
m8 I am deleting my A/C, but only because the new engine I'm going to swap in doesn't have an A/C compressor.
also going to delete my power steering so I don't have to go to the gym as much
For a lot of people an AC delete makes sense, I almost took mine out to make room for my turbo stuff. I have my power steering deleted, it certainly makes you work for it a bit!
People say the Nc looks like a boat then add fender flares. Hahaha. I put on the ac with the top down. Good list.
I’ve got no issues with my race motor mounts they were awful at 1st but after like 100 miles it feels no different than stock mounts
Where did you get those leather interior add ons? Looks amazing man!
Thanks man! I made them, I'll be selling them soon! Keep an eye out at www.etsy.com/sg-en/shop/CashsCustomShop
You are spot on!!
Looks like I'm only guilty of having a style bar, but in my defense it was installed by one of previous owners, so I consider myself sin-free!
Nice! Definitely consider a true roll bar or removing the style bar, it should keep you safer!
@@CashedOutCars would you recommend any roll bars that look like the style bar? I like the aesthetic u.u
Cool!!!! Where did you get the centre console rest from? :-) me likey
I custom made it myself, do you make them?
@@CashedOutCars Awesome, looks nice and comfortable, if your stuck in traffic :;-)
Great video man.
Thanks my friend!
Im guilty of: 1 but i made a heat shield and did advanced the timing also port matched the head, intake and, exhaust manifolds while i was doing the headgasket after noticing an oil leak from between the head and the block, 5 my style bar is weird tbh i cant find any other like it, its not like all the other ones that you can just feel how flimsy they are, this one has a 3/8 inch thicc bar that goes across the bottom with bolt holes for a racing harness and the tubing is thicc like 3/32, it looks custom made, 6 i wouldnt say my tires are super cheap but they are inexpensive, but i go with 195/50/r15 lexani lx 313, just because theres a good balance for me between grip and slip, 8 i have a manzo catback and high flow cat, yeah it drones, but i just wear ear plugs on long drives, 9 my miata has no a/c or p/s and i live in 90+ degree weather, i just roll the windows down and unzip the rear plastic.
great video
Understand the style bar has no safety value. But just to be clear, are you saying that the are actually dangerous?
@@jimvorndran9438 it's a zany action, a crazy contraption, the fun is catching it's mousetrap
decry the style bar before it crushes any other mice, so don't get caught yourself
It's a mouse trap! from milton bradley.
Lmao hot air intake
I want to put fender flares and wide bodies on now to get that hovercraft look lol
Install some fans on the back too!
Even a little plastic box around the filter with a pipe going to fresh air will do. Can even wrap in carbon fibre vinyl so looks the part yet cheap as :)
Absolutely! When done right you can make a good cold air intake.. this eBay kit just isn’t it
idc if the cold air intake is actually a hot air intake
it sounds fucking awesome
and when you are driving and or have a heat shield cold air is coming into the engine bay so its not that bad
6:13 my exhaust has a massive drone and i love it. its just boring without a drone
I like the lazy eyes.....chill bro.
It looks like you've got NB wheels on yours, correct? If that's what I'm seeing, can you tell me if there are any downsides? I'm asking because I want to put those NB wheels on my NA. Thanks!
Mazda competition motor mounts are sick. Not bad at all and feel Great.
Those are a good compromise between stock and a poly mount, that’s for sure!
Never let this man cook again.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but for the intake wouldn't you avoid the issue of sucking in hot air if you install a heat shield between the headers and the intake?
A heat shield certainly would help! If you’re sucking in colder air than stock there will be a benefit, lots of people slap on this style filter and think they’ll make more power but it’s not really true, especially when it’s next to hot headers like this
This goes for any car, but quick release steering wheels, tsurikawas and flashing brake lights
That said, a wider 15 with a good tire can surprisingly fit well with a stock or near stock body and grip like crazy
hot air intake made my mx5 sound twice as good, no regrets
Hahaha that's hot I felt when I had mine too... Now I have a turbo

Good video
You put in the intake wrong, you need to reroute it and face it forward. Money Pit over on Donut Media has a great example on how to properly do that.
Also most of these "regrets" are very useful mods to the car and a Miata is best in curvy roads imo. So stiff suspension, upgraded engine mounts, wide tires/ wheels are perfect mods.
That’s how this kit is, which is what makes it ineffective. Yes, performance mods are great, when done right. Heavy wheels and tires, improper spring rates that don’t match damping, and stuff like that ruins the experience and performance of the car.
I wasn't on this list but now I've got no choice but to remove my AC after a front end disagreement with a fox 🙈
That's too bad, poor fox, poor Miata, and poor you! At least you'll have the free weight reduction!
@@CashedOutCars haha thanks sir. It's gutting but at the same time adds to the ongoing story 😁
I might as well do an ac delete because it doesn’t work anyway
I’m guilty of having static led headlights... and soon to be guilty of ac delete(it’s broken)
AC delete if it’s broken is also different. That’s just extra weight you’re dragging around for no good reason, it’s good to get rid of it then!
My AC doesn’t work. I would prefer to have it though. 1992- is there an affordable upgrade? I have been told the frion (?) can’t be recharged.
Miata owner dreaming of mr2
Hey, where did you get those sticker badges? I like how they look and I don't have any badges on mine currently haha
I made them custom! If you’d want some made email me at cashedoutcars@gmail.com and we can work something out!
ruclips.net/video/J8TbvdIvmc8/видео.html
Well I’m guilty of the sleepy eye mod but my car doesn’t look stock at all. I used to have the hot air intake have since put the stock box back in. I have heavy knock off wheels (xxr) and cheap tires ( I was broke and needed tires at the time) if you look in my channel you will see the car that’s guilty of this stuff. I’m currently waiting on my wide body but do plan to actually make the wheels fit and later down the line get wide wheels to fit in it for a meaty look.
4:31 Mine was stock lol. Gonna replace it tho.
Well, when I can barely see the road when I drive with stock pop ups, sleepy eye low profile lights are kinda a need
Yeah they’re definitely used kind of interchangeably. That must make a nice difference at night! Function over form all day too. Enjoy your car!
I disagree about the motor mounts. My car feel much more torquey and more responsive. It doesn’t add any roughness I my opinion.
Iove my poly motor and diff mounts. Probably going to try stiffer duro next time around too for the motors (innovate brand)
i’m not guilty of any of that but i bought my miata without working ac so it’s been a very very hot summer daily🥴
Same boat, this FL heat sucks
#11 putting white tires sticker on ... LOL
I made this video to get comments for the algorithm, it works ;) no stickers on my car though
Low profile headlights can never be justified on any miata
Probably about to get a miata with 60k mileage。What should i do to it?
Change your fluids, check your radiator, and send it!
Mind telling us where you got your center console cover from? :)
Of course! I made it myself, check out my video on Miata interior mods, I go over it a bit more in detail!
I love this Chanel. Praise mx5! Amen
Any recommendations for good tires ?
^^ just for casual driving
For daily driving a good all season like this would be fine! ebay.us/JqOWHx I'm a big fan of the slightly grippier tires on these cars though
It’s time for a new hvac panel in there
I think I'm guilty of multiple...
How do you fix the cone intake situation?
I don't get why you put aesthetic mods on this list. Not really bad mods, just your opinions? Otherwise good list
Love this chanel , what radio screen you use ?
Thanks! Here’s the link, it’s a cheaper, lower end unit. I have a full review of it on my channel as well as an install video if you’re interested! amzn.to/2XOW9uT
Are *Enkei RPF1's* too *heavy*?
Hyped, yes and with hood reason, but heavy, absolutely not
Where do you get that trunk with tiny lip
I don't think anyone expects performance out of a miata...
Then those people are going in with the wrong expectations!
what was your miatas mileage at when u got it?
This one I got at just over 200k, I also have an NB that I picked up at 67k
@@CashedOutCars oh damn nice i was trying to find the video of where you said how much miles were on it but i couldnt find it
We literally don't give a shit - sincerely all of us rad fun havers who have straight piped miatas with $100 - $200 coilovers
It’s 100% about fun. If you’re not doing it for fun, I’m not sure why you are!
Only one that I’m guilty of is AC delete.... btw it’s 91 degrees outside.......
I’ve been running with AC with no belt to drive it for the last few months.. and that’s an AC delete with out any of the benefits because I got lazy🤪
4:30 that looks very safe
When I get a mineta MX-5 1990 I'm gonna make it electric and have butterfly wing doors
