I'm from johor so it's really common to eat pisang goreng with sambal kicap. but if i'm too lazy to make sambal kicap, i just dip them in sweet chili sauce. Pisang tanduk goreng is really good if you eat them with sugar.

When I was at different state in Malaysia, I try to ask sambal kicap, the seller wonder what is sambal kicap. He got no idea about it. That was in 2001. Only then I know that sambal kicap is only available in Johor. But nowadays I believe some of pisang Goreng seller already served you together with sambal kicap or sweet sambal. It did really goes well with both. To a certain point that pisang Goreng without sambal kicap feel like eating roti canai without curry or dhal gravvy.. Hehehe
Yup. Some places outside from johor serves pisang goreng with sambal kicap. I found one in kg manjoi in ipoh in 2003. And several places in klang valley.

The sweetness of sweet potatoes added with the fried crispy batter shell when dipped into the sweet salty spiciness savoriness of the soy of sambal kicap, the taste is indescribable! To describe it as amazing is an understatement. I'm not from Johor but when I was young, I lived in Johor and attended elementary school there and the school canteen served fried sweet potatoes with sambal kicap! Heaven! I've acquired Johoreans palate since young. I love Johor food especially Laksa Johor, Soto, and more. Johoreans also makes the best traditional chips -tapioca chips, rempeyek, etc.

Sambal kicap with pisang goreng is native to southern part of West Malaysia mainly in Johor. You can have sambal kicap alongside with your soto or any soup dish 🤤 p/s Selamat Hari Raya 🌻🌻
Tips on making sure you can make that bowl easily without tearing or breaking the banana leaves is to, 'layar' it on top of fire. Turn on the stove fire small, the smallest, then move around the leaves that you already cut onto the fire. Make sure you do it quick. That way, the banana leaves will be softer and pliable. Move it quickly on top of the fire. Don't let it stay at the same place for long time. The colour of the leaves will change darker.

iChang's & Jimmy's cooking videos never fail to make me drool. Our family usually gets Pisang Abu (aka Pisang Nipah) for fried bananas. Never tried frying Pisang Susu before as we usually eat it raw. Maybe we can try next time. Another Malaysian favourite for evening snack / tea time is Cekodok Pisang (Fried Banana Balls). Why don't you try it next time.

Johor ! Johor!!. Its our favourite local snack food. Never tried eating pisang goreng with condensed milk or yogurt.. But you guys made us mouth watering to try. Well done.
U have to close the pan when u fry chillies. Put in the pan close it with a lid & after one minute or after no more sound, u can open it. We call it Pisang Abu = Abu's Banana 😅 Next time when u come to Malaysia, do stay in Sabak Bernam district in Selangor. U can google for so many homestay here which is in the middle of paddy field. We have a lot of varities of banana here & u can get daily in many stalls.

The banana leaves you should "salai" (smoked) it if you wanna to fold it... After you smoked it, the texture will be softened.

Come to sabah, u can get pisang goreng / sanggar with sambal tomato and sometime come with kuah kacang.

iChang's & Jimmy's cooking videos never fail to make me drool. Our family usually gets Pisang Abu (aka Pisang Nipah) for fried bananas. Never tried frying Pisang Susu before as we usually eat it raw. Maybe we can try next time. Another Malaysian favourite for evening snack / tea time is Cekodok Pisang (Fried Banana Balls). Why don't you try it next time.

U have to close the pan when u fry chillies. Put in the pan close it with a lid & after one minute or after no more sound, u can open it. We call it Pisang Abu = Abu's Banana 😅
Next time when u come to Malaysia, do stay in Sabak Bernam district in Selangor. U can google for so many homestay here which is in the middle of paddy field. We have a lot of varities of banana here & u can get daily in many stalls.
