Idk why but even as a Thai American, I still sometimes say it with the accent when I’m speaking Thai, but with English is just normal I guess as a force of habit.😂
Not really. I really love Thai accent. Something about it is very pleasant. But to be fair, I lived there for 8 years of my life so I might have some bias towards it
I genuinely love Thai as well as Thai accents! I'm a woman living in the United States. There's just something so soothing and also energizing about a Thai accent.
Its not because the thai alphabet can't use english letters (like Japanese can't use L or V) It's because of how complex the reading rules in thai are. You can't combine two consonants together, as the reading rules in thai always must have a vowel between two consonants. For example, "Fork" can't be spelled in thai because if you typed the letters "fo" "R" and "K" together in thai it would be ฟอรก which reads as "Forok" instead of "fork". So you would have to delete a R to get the right sound but lose the R sound that matches the english spelling.
@@moahammad1mohammad wow ok yeah I didn't register that it's sound is more foray(? I can't even spell the sound.) Although ฟอรก์ spelled will be translated to Fork or in German Gabel, what means what it sought to mean ...
Do Thai language schools teach these rules in this way to English speakers? I’ve only ever tried learning Thai from a “Thai for beginners” English book and from listening to my mom, but didn’t know that about written Thai. I never picked it up as a second language despite the fact that as a small child, I used to use Thai words in place of English words when speaking with family. Wish I had dedicated more time and effort to learning Thai.
im a half thai person, half indian. my mom is thai and my dad is indian, but both the sides live in thailand, while i live in the us. i go and visit every summer, and i have a little cousin on my dad's side named Ellora. my mom's side, who only speak thai call her 'Ellola"
I taught myself Thai over around 5 years of speaking, reading and typing it almost every day, and even though many words in Thai are borrowed from English I always find it funny having to pronounce them in the Thai form, like the word steak, they say sah-dtake. My home country is also a funny one for me, I am from Scotland but in Thai they pronounce it as Sah-kot-laen😂
Absolutely fun to watch, this video! Your Thai Accent is ON THE SPOT. Speaking of learning, if anyone's interested in diving deeper into Thai, I've been using apps like Ling and Pocket Thai Master to expand my knowledge. They've been incredibly helpful in making learning accessible and fun. Keep up the great work with these videos - Love from UK!
Bro I grew up with one native English speaker and my Thai mom, I always pronounced things the American way but I had to make it have an accent in school because the kids are BRUTAL calling people “Try hard” when they do something great 😭

Luckily, we're reading English when we speak English, so Thai rules and alphabet don't apply!
Start with the alphabet! 🤭
What if we use ฟอรก์? Than we would read it as Fork with an R or not?
@@maryellchen That would be more like "Fong" or "Forag" instead of fork
