- Alice in Chains, the NorthWest Symphony Orchestra and the Northwest Girls Choir performing Alice in Chain's 'I Stay Away' at Matt Messina's 2007 Symphony Legacy, presented by the Symphony Guild.
The Symphony Guild is dedicated to enriching the quality of children's lives in the Northwest and primarily raises funds through an annual benefit concert, composed by Mateo Messina, with proceeds benefiting uncompensated care at Seattle Children's.

In response to one of the comments below: It's true that Jerry wrote most of the AIC songs, but Layne wrote this song in particular. Both are (and were) extremely talented artists.
actually as time went by layne wrote more songs and that almost half of their their songs were written by him.
The lyrics only.. Layne was the sole music writer for only "Head Creeps" "Hate to Feel" and "Angry Chair".
Mike Inez wrote the 12 string guitar part that the song. Without it this song doesn’t exist.
I spot me in the beginning of the video in the front row! Oh how much I miss being in this choir. :( I was like in the fourth grade when I did this. This was a beautiful experience.

Duvall rocks! Alice in chains rocks! Saw them at sandstone and they were absolutely amazing.

That was nothing short of awesome. Duvall has an amazing voice and he sounded like Laynes's spirit jumped into his body. Tears in my eyes watching this.
Amazing performance at 7:10 listening to seans drums and the "i stay away" part from the orchestra brought tears to my eyes

Will gave it his all. Closer than probably 99.9% of singers could get to Layne's performance of this song. But still not the same set up pipes. Layne was a one and only and I have yet to hear ANYone that can dupe his notes. Those 4 "I stay away's" are my most favorite sounds ever out of Layne's throat. Just the way he inflected differently each time - true artistry, no fear, and solid perfection. Having said all that, this gave me chills - Layne is proud!

WOW!!! I've always loved this song - particularly the orchestration. To hear it done with a full orchestra just blows it out of the park! Layne would be looking down and smiling. Duvall is a fantastic vocalist.

the studio version of this song has a very orchestral vibe with its layers but the way the orchestra was drowned out in this shows improper mic placement and pour acoustics. Will is no Layne and never will be but he killed on this. Will is a damn good vocalist and he works great in tandem with Jerry and it is a different vibe but more imprtantly it still sounds like Alice in Chains
I TOTALLY agree with your assessment! It could have been much better. Needed more violin 🎻🎻 throughout. Needed more background vocal. Still good but had much more potential!😕

It deeply saddens me that Layne died before he got the chance to do something as amazing as this. Just imagine Layne up there instead of DuVall. He would have loved this so much.
William was not a part of the 2005 Tsunami Tribute. Pat Lachman of Damage Plan, along with Maynard James Keenan of Tool/A Perfect Circle etc..., Wes Scantlin of Puddle of Mudd, and of course Ann Wilson of Heart. William was asked to join the group in 2006 for "Decades Rock Live" a VH1 special and concert honoring Heart. Phil Anselmo also sang a couple songs. Alice in Chain's with William went on a "victory lap," tour starting in the late spring of 2006, and continued as response was great.

You know why it doesn't sound the same as when layne was with them, because layne is dead. It would have sounded better with him, but the new lead singer is pretty dang good, don't judge it off of this video though
