Lovely job! Missed you guys. On Wednesday. Thank you and Mallory for my stickers and the thank you card ❤️ I recently had to mess about with my battery tray that I fitted in 2015 - water/rust got in between the tray and the bracket that’s spot welded on to it. I had to remove the bracket clean it up and replace it with zinc primer prior to refitting.
Diagonal welds make sense from a engineering perspective. Not only do you get more weld which creates a stronger joint, but you also take some of the load out of shear. Where this joint is at though it really won’t matter
Thanks for sharing your work. It has giving me confidence to make a start on my bus. Done some small patches successfully now mocking everything up for a non sliding door side rocker/sill replacement as well as rear guard, fitted and checked many times and just about ready to commit to welding it in.
Looking forward the least to the repair of the gutters in front that join the roof to my VW LT. And lucky that you have a lot of replacement panels for the T2.
Love re-living that valance. I had to replace inner and outer - my outer was all rust, the inner was packed with body filler. I assume a lot of the rusting is the result of the exhaust being there.
My philosophy is, take however much time it takes to do the job right. It is basically a one time ordeal, so do it right the first time and it will last a long, long time. Thumbs Up!
what I've been doing to get cuts lined up good is just like you were doing! but followed by like, dremeling off (with grinder wheel) any of the high spots between the two pieces. going slowly, checking, grinding a bit more, checking, grinding a bit more. . . doing it a little bit at a time usually gets a really close joint for butt weld :) Also, has the weld-thru primer been working well? the whole weld/paint/rust triangle feels like such catch-22 to me.
My bay window is not as rusty as yours (I think?). But mine has significant B pillar damage that I keep putting to the side. I am going to have to capture your enthusiasm some how and tackle it this winter.
My rear shock mounts are pretty rusty, how are yours? Is it something we are going to see, because i don't know how to get started😅 Love the videos keep it up👍😊
Great video!!! I have the same year and I’m going through the process. Where are u sourcing all the body metal? Also is there a body metal map that shows all the metal pieces in an exploded view? Thanks
hey guys, great work on the van! How do you handle your weld-through primer? I've had the worst luck with them where the first application works great but as soon as I let the can sit for a day or two it's done for (yes, after blowing out the nozzle) .. yours seems to work .. which one are you using? keep up the good work
You can find all the parts you’d need at www.heritagepartscentre.com and if you use VANGABONDERS10 at checkout you’ll get 10% off your order and it helps support the channel 😁
I have a theory on what you said “ why don’t people look after their vw” , because they were inexpensive vehicles people have the mentally it’s cheep so not valuable therefore don’t look after, stupid thinking, mine is the same as yours rusty 😮

As a bus owner, I am very impressed that you are tackling this project.
Our buses are so similar rust wise LOL. Following along closely, have been watching you guys for years!
Glad you enjoy the content!
cool work Kris
Good work man!
Thank you 🙏
This, this is the part of my bus I'm procrastinating on doing
Great work! Your welding keeps improving. Tangy the Frankenbus is gonna be sweet! #algorithmfood
I love seeing that bus being restored. You do good work.
You've learned so much on this build. Keep it up, man ! It's looking great so far !
Thanks, will do!
Air hammer 💪🏻
I’m lovin it
Great update and an other quality repair. Well done

Glad you got the stickers! Hope to see you at the next livestream 😊
Awesome progress!

That makes sense to me 👍
your boots really fit your soul, txs for sharing...

Hi 👋🏻 name cool guy 😎 Love how you take your time and get it right instead of bodging it 🙄🏴
Looking forward the least to the repair of the gutters in front that join the roof to my VW LT. And lucky that you have a lot of replacement panels for the T2.
Anything gutter related is never fun 👎
Great video, love the work! :)
Looking good
Freaking fantastic job

Almost at the end of the bus😊
Awesome its coming on.....
Wau😅 que trabajo excelente 😮 desde Puerto Rico le veo

Your repairs are getting better and better man! So awesome to watch the progress on the bus. Keep it crackin'!
Awesome
hey bro.. i am back and watching :)
Welcome back!
I am waiting to see the intreure reabeld
Amazing how you can buy panels for such an old van

I am lucky mine is not as bad as yours was but I have to replace the rear quarters so that won’t be fun 😢
My rear shock mounts are pretty rusty, how are yours? Is it something we are going to see, because i don't know how to get started😅
Love the videos keep it up👍😊
My shock mounts are solid. I'd like to see what yours look like
nice, i know you use .023 wire for a lot of your sheet metal welding, did you go with a beefier wire size for the frame weld portion?
I used the same wire just at my hottest setting
I’m loving the repairs man! Is that the zinc primer we were talking about coming from the factory? And why you shouldn’t chemical dip a bus?
It's different. This primer is just zinc rich weld through primer
Ah ok, Thanks! I’m excited for the next episode!

Where you buy the sheet ? Can you provide some websites? Thanks, Dario!

I THOUGHT THAT YOU HAVE COVERED THAT RUST BEFORE.
Not yet!
Replacing the entire rear package try on my 68 Squareback will easily be the worst part of the project. Especially since the outside just got painted😕

My OCD demands that I tell you that you’re pronouncing “valance” incorrectly. It rhymes with “balance”.
All these years I've been saying it wrong? lol
haha stop copying my bus title! Make your own
😂😂😂
Man wish I zinc primed some of my repair jobs. 🫤
