  • Black Templars have a fair bit of options when it comes to unit colours. So I'll go over them in this video!

    Another interesting point about their colorsheme, the case of the terminator helmets.
    They have been historically white and I like that as a way to make them stand out a bit more as elite veteran, thats why Ive painted my blade guard veteran with white helmets too and will probably extend that to other elite troop too.

    Black Templars don't really abide by the Codex Astartes so go crazy.

      If you look in the background of that awesome piece of art (1 of my all time faves) there's even a Templar in white armor with a black chest cross, and what looks like red on another.

    Black white red and metallics like gold and silver arrange as you like you’re welcome

    It’s probably been stated already, but the Black Templars OG colour scheme used to be black shoulder pads with white cross a company colour trim when they used to be a Codex compliant chapter back in 2nd edition.

    Basically, they do not follow the codex astartes, so they aren't as strict as something like the ultramarines.
    They'll be given armour relics for achieving great deeds so some armour might be slightly different.
    So long as they loosely follow the iconography you're good

    I would recommend against going with a white cross with red background.

  • @davidtrujillo1689

    If i'm not mistaken Red cross, Red Trim and white background is the colors of veterans. This doesn't make them sword brothers because the sword brethren are members of the Marshal's house. Meaning: veterans who are trusted by the marshal to lead the crusader squads or to act as sergeants for other codex units and simultaneously they enter the recruitment pool of the Reclusiam. Also the marshal apoints castellans from the sword brethren.
    At least that's what I got, Basically, but the red trim and cross are all optional they act like medals of service. Devote or humble brothers can chose to not wear them as they believe that showing pride in your individual archievements is (somehow) straying from the path of the emperor.
    This is just my take on the suplement's lore, anyting goes so do whatever you want with your army ^^

    • @sirnotawesome
      @sirnotawesome 2 года назад +1

      Veterans do not lead crusade squads, and are excused from training neophytes as they are organized into whatever specialty squad they choose to be in. Elevation to veteran is not a simple matter of progression either, but is obtained when another veteran, sword brother, castellan or even Marshall sees it fit. Only the most faithful and righteous of Templars may become a chaplain, but the position of chaplain is open to any marine who shows enough zeal and faith. Organization in the Black Templars is highly decentralized, meaning you can do practically anything you want when it comes to wargear, armour and heraldry.

      Veterans also used to have a white cross over a black background, like Chaplains do, because not all Veterans are Sword Bros. The red over white is how Apothecary's are marked

    I just paint more gold the more veteran the unit is.
    The sword brethren or blade guard sergeant will be blinged out to show his seniority
    Helbrects armor is almost all gold.

    A key thing to always do it to always run your assault intercessors as crusader squad initiates. You save on points in game as well.
    Plus I’m sure every black Templar enthusiast out there has extra bolts pistols and chain swords with chain on them that black Templar crusader squads use

  • @brutalchaos92
    @brutalchaos92 Год назад +1

    I use the tabards as well to denote rank
    Neophyte/Initiates: Cream
    Sword Brethren, Sargents, terminators, elites: yellow (because I'm a masochist and sanity is for the weak)
    HQ: Red
    I love that BTs are more or less a free for all with colors when compared to other chapters

    I believe a lot of confusion came from shifting to first-born to primaris, and 8th/9th was trying to shove both army battlefield roles into one army, as now in 10th we just have the "primaris" battlefield rolls as the only battlefield rolls. No more troops, fast attack, elite. Just battleline, close quarters, fire support, veterans, commander. Battleline are the long range shooty boys, close quarters are the melee boys and close-range boys, fire support is heavy shooty boys, veterans are well veterans and commander is specially just captains, lieutenants, company heros. It does strictly state that assault intercessors are close combat, and regular intercessors are battleline. Although the black templars have not been released yet, I am sure that with the extreme divergent nature of Black Templars that it will vary on the specific model sense Crusader squads are so customizable. I personally think it is better and more unique that way as well.

    Yeah, pretty much how I do it. Though I try to keep it simple...
    Do I want this unit in melee? (ie. Assault Intercessors) White, with red trim and red cross.
    Do I want this unit not in melee? (ie. Intercessors) White, with black trim and black cross.
    Though I got tired looking at an entire army in black. Your model with the gold looked great, gave it a little pop. Plus, going back and giving it some lore is also a nice touch. As you mention, your army so you have to give it alittle of your own flare. I went alittle more and my veteran units are not in black, but an oxidized bronze (Bladeguard Veterans, Sword Brethen, and HQs). I figure if Helbrecht has Gold, then perhaps the next tier is in Bronze. Being on crusade so long, it is starting to oxidize. It's a badge of honor to be wearing green armor, think Star Wars Clonewars, were the Clonetroopers call the new clones shinies.

    Nice piece of info!
    But I still have questions:
    -BT Vet joined Deathwatch: black trimm, red cross, black pauldron? Red trimm, black cross, white pauldron?
    -Marshall was a Sword Brethen before being Marshall. Which one?
    -Lieutenant???

    • @boundlessbattlefields9320
      @boundlessbattlefields9320  2 года назад +2

      Lieutenants are Castellans for Templars, so that's what I referred to them as in the video, I used Gold trim for mine, which is also what I was painting in the video!
      As for the Deathwatch bro, kinda dealers choice, was he just a veteran or was a Sword Brother before going?
      Marshals are whatever you'd want. They only answer to the High Marshal, so you can get away with a lot!

    Dorns Angry Boys are so decentralized you have a ton of latitude to do what you like. My Crusade Fleet Vandalicus doesn't even use quite the same war cry (no mercy instead of no fear). Basically, go nuts.
    To expand a bit, a Black Templar is not an assault marine because he was assigned to a squad of them, he's in that squad because he knows the men of that squad well, or because E Money reached down and told him to go there, or maybe he just feels that's where he can do His good work the best. They're very fast and loose with rules/organization.

    I do any battle line units whether they are armed with rifles or chain swords with the initiate colours. Specialist close quarters units such as bikers or jump pack units have red trim, and any veteran units such as bladeguard and sergeant models are donated as sword brethren. Looks pretty alright to me and get lots of compliments at the FLGS

    Great video man! Subbed. I really want GW to bring out a revised artwork/lore book showing in excruciating detail the livery of the most prominent chapters. I am currently working on my own Dark Angels rank/livery/honours "catalogue" in a word document because I'm a weirdo with too much time... anyone else done something like this? 😂

    Dude there is literally a list in the Codex Space Marines, kinda like you list at 7:56, wich states what Units are Veterans/Close Support/Battle Line etc :D
    For example incursors are Close Support (Red/White)
    infiltrators Battle Line (black/White)
    Terminators are Veterans (so White helmets according to older BT stuff) and so on
    Maybe this helps also

    As for the BT colorsheme, their new book is just terrible when it comes to colorsheme, it barebone and ignored a lot of the 4th amazing book that covered EVERY units.
    Hell the new book went as far as retconning basic stuff lile ther weapons that are now the same red than the deathwatch and changed their chest emblems to gold instead of silver.
