- Yes!! I did it!! - My First ever Spring Salmon AND my first fish of 2023! A beautiful bar of silver to the weight of 7lb!
My good friend Russ invited me to join him and 17 other fisherman for 2 days at the world famous Tulchan Sporting Estate, on the River Spey. The two days cost me £150 total and I was thrilled to be able to fish at such a prestigious location. I also fished some flies provided by @fishing_swede
According to Ian Gordon from www.speyonline.com Tulchan is Salmon Fishing Heaven. Fished and made famous by some of the most famous salmon fishers of the past Tulchan can only be described as the Jewel in the Crown of Salmon Fishing on the Spey.
A Mid/Upper beat situated around 30 miles from the sea, it has four beats, each of which fishes 6 rods and is around 2 miles long.
All are double bank fisheries and situated in an extremely scenic part of the river. Fresh salmon can be caught during every month of the year [Feb - Sept] but Tulchan is a great choice for people fishing the Spring and Summer months.
The facilities at Tulchan are the best on the river, 5 star in every way. Warm well-appointed hut all with flushing toilets, cooking and washing facilities.
My channel is called Cornish Chris the Fish. I am a Cornishman venturing out beyond the Duchy to experience life on the road full time touring in my Caravan Dalleth Arta, fly fishing and vlogging my adventure. I am a novice Salmon Fisherman so join me as I experience the topsy turvey world of Salmon Fishing. I am charting my fishing adventures and will profile each fishery that I attend. I may even catch a few fish 😀

Go for Salmon this year 👍
@CornishChrisTheFish I will be fishing on a salmon river, but if I purchase any more fishing gear, my other half is likely to leave, so maybe next year🤣🤣

Thank you very much!
Many congrats, you never forget the first springer!! Swapping rod a reel was an act of god, imagine losing it with a buggared reel!!😢😢
I can't imagine how bad it would have been without a reel to.hold that fish 🤣👍 Thanks for the support
Well done. Was genuinely really pleased for you. Not many anglers get a springer in march. Onwards and upwards 🎉
Thanks Stephen 👍

Long time subscriber Chris , very rarely I comment , but I have to today, congratulations on the lovely fish !!! , watch all your videos and I enjoy them greatly , no need to upgrade the gear as far as I am concerned, keep them coming and well done again . Tight lines for the remainder of the season….

I hope so too! Many thanks for your support. Chris
So happy for you Chris, theres alot of work before that first springer :)
Thank you so much I am very pleased 👍
Outstanding video!
Thank you very much!
Great stuff Chris, you well deserved that with effort you put in 👏👏
Thanks 👍
When the water is high I would definitely be retrieving the line slowly on the dangle.
Great advice
Yahoo Chris a lovely Springer,I’m still waiting for mine eh ha ha.Loving the videos, your blethering and your casting is coming on a treat. I walk a couple of paces after I cast to let my fly sink a little bit deeper and I have a wee spit on the water for luck, daft eh haha. All my Trout and Salmon rods are Guidline and reels are Lampsons, great kit and have lasted for many years.Keep the cameras rolling and many more tight lines, cheers.
Thanks so much Andrew 👍
Chris Congratulations on your first Springer. You never know the flood gates might open this season if you get the right water. Tight lines from AUS.
Thanks Norman, tight lines "down under" 😀👍
Well done sir, off the mark 👍
Cheers Charlie 👍
Brilliant stuff Chris! Beautiful fish, well done!
Thanks 👍
Believe in the take 🎣
🤣👍
Well done Chris
Thanks James 👍
have a look at the Galoway Forrest. Stincher bridge, Corniche hill, Loch Goosie Bradddan mcettrick
Thanks I will 👍
Also the river doon and the River Ayr, I think theryre syndicated now though
Search out the places you are most likely to catch. Book the ones you can afford and pray for good conditions and in the end it will happen as you have just realised. Well done first of many 🎣🍾
Cheers David 👍
Well done Sir! I’m a novice salmon fisher myself and just got back from a week fishing at the Dee. Was lucky enough to land 2 springers. I can feel your joy! How was your line fishing when you hooked the fish? I noticed in my case the line was always straight and I could feel the fly was fishing properly. Thus I will focus more on managing the line than on casting next time I get to swing my rod again. Tight lines for the rest of the season. Greetings from Switzerland
Wow, thanks so much for watching my film. Yes, my line was running straight when I Hooked it. Congrats on your two springers too, well done. I fish the Dee alot, which fisheries where you on? Thanks for subscribing to my channel too 👍
@@CornishChrisTheFish thank you Chris! We fished the Birse, Commonty, Invery and Crathes Castle Beats. All beautiful but Birse and Commonty turned out productive that week. Keep up the good work and looking forward to your next videos!
Much appreciated am back on the Dee in a few weeks. Praying for a bit of rain before then 🙏
When people walk along the footpath & wish me “Good Luck” The kiss of death for me! I actually ask them to take that back😂River Wye Redbrook beat. River now closed to salmon fishing due to water temp!
Yeah, quite agree, "tight lines" is a phrase i avoid 😁👍
I have a ritual that I learned as a kid that I perform before every session. I take a 5,10 or 20p piece, kiss it for luck and say
Like for like
Owt for nowt
Silver in
Silver out
before throwing it into the river as payment. I'm not superstitious, (it's bad luck to be superstitious) but if I forget my coin, or forget to pay the river before the first cast, I always feel like I've jinxed myself.
Wow, everytime? I must raid the ashtray in the car but I might only have coppers 👍🤣
@@CornishChrisTheFish yup, every time. thats why I use 5p and not 50p. it doesnt do any damn good though.
Use a reel with metal gears . I've had Chinook destroy the nylon gears of cheaper reels
Great advice, thanks Robert👍
Hi Chris, greetings from down in Cornwall. Well done with your fish mate. Regards your worn out reel,,,, invest in a Hardy reel and rod. Not the cheapest but they will look after you. I've done the same as well as our friend on you tube " A Baker's Life" Dan.
If they look after you so well why are there 5 year old rods going up for sale with broken tips and hardy are only offering a discount on a new rod as the lines are discontinued? The reels are very overpriced for the most part as well. I've two Ultralight CLS reels and while they're decent enough I would say they aren't as well made as my SA system 2 or Orvis Battenkill reels and they were all about the same money at one point.
Thanks Danny, too late, I bought an Airflo V3, haven't used it yet but am fishing with it tomorrow so we will see how it fairs 👍
Congratulations with your catch wel deserved, You cast better than him with that rod, only one thing I don’t understand is that no one can cast over both shoulders , all that extra movement circle and dubbel Spey and sometimes ripping line from the surface 😢
Thanks for the compliment ☺
Well done Chris on your spring fish and in big water too. You ask for feedback on your videos, I would say your videos are probably far too long with too much talking about yourself and what you want to achieve around your social media status. You probably do more fishing than most people I know, if you are still thinking that you are novice salmon angler then I would suggest spending some of your cash to go out with an experienced salmon fisher and try and improve your skills and river craft.
Tight lines anyway !!
Thanks for your feedback
I agree. First time watching. New subscriber. I enjoyed your film, but way too long, and too much about talking up your channel. Pool titles are way too big on the screen, which spoils otherwise beautiful footage. And if you're asking people to watch a 45 min film, and going to the trouble of filming multiple angles, seeing your fine catch at the end would have been better. Tight lines.
@@jonatherton thanks for your feedback
I bet your knees were knocking congrats, now treat yourself a new reel
Thanks, I bought an Airflo V3 so we shall see how we get on with that 👍🤣
Super vid, congrats Chris on your 2nd salar, pressure is off for '23, now fill your boots 😜 Do you have an email address to contact you???
Thanks Steve, my email address is (I think) at the bottom of the description or in my channel info 👍
@@CornishChrisTheFish it's not either sorry pal.
Hmm okay i thought it was. Its cornishchristhefish@gmail.com
Congratulations 🎣 It was stressful even to watch 😂
