Most flights from the U.S. to Tokyo serve breakfast before arrival, even if you’re arriving at 14:00-16:00. Not sure why, but it’s been that way for years, and on all of the airlines flying these routes.
Good pickup! We’re typically working around other passengers who have boarded at the same time. In a smaller cabin like PE early boarding is a valued benefit, so it fills really quickly and has a lot of through traffic to economy. Business class has more space and doesn’t fill as fast, with pax sauntering in from the lounge.) There’s typically such a short window of time to get any clean shots That said, I’ll be more mindful of this the next time too! Thanks for watching! Shane
Premium Plus reclines almost as much as domestic First class. Premium economy uses the same seat as economy but gives you a few extra inches for your knees.
Great video! It makes me want to try out United’s Premium Economy! My spouse and I will be traveling to Asia later this year and are interested in trying out Premium Economy. I curious if they padding in the seats make it comfortable enough for someone who suffers with chronic back pain. How did you find the padding of the seats? Thank you!
Thank you! When it comes to seat padding and airplanes, typically they’re all pretty average; even in premium cabins like this. It’s deliberate because the weight adds to fuel burn and the accountants just don’t like it. My thoughts on this product though, which may help in some way, is that in premium plus on the wide body international routes you do get an extra checked bag for free, which gives you some extra flexibility to shuffle your belongings around and take a full size pillow or back support cushion to help better position yourself during the flight (without having to leave half of your clothes at home). On this aircraft, the groupings of 2 seats are also less disruptive for you on a long haul flight than a row of 3, where you’d have to work around an extra stranger needing to use bathroom etc. So when you do find a comfortable position, especially for sleep, you can stay that way for longer. Another consideration for me, is that my better half likes the aisle seat on long haul to stretch frequently and I need the window seat for filming, so rows of 2 are really valuable to us personally. Being able to move and reposition more readily and still get the benefit of access to the window to see where your journey has taken you is definitely a plus in my mind. Best of luck in your decision making! And thanks for watching! Shane
The bulkhead is a great option - my only issue for bulkhead on any aircraft is they typically have pullout screens that tuck into the armrest. These are often smaller and or/ slightly offset so you have to watch movies on an angle. Bulkhead is always the best though for space, legroom and easy exit to get to the bathroom without disturbing your neighbour and always the best option for wriggly kids. Thanks for watching and enjoy your flight ! Shane
That’s a good distance to well and truly enjoy it. I’m curious about the catering out of Tokyo, come back and let us know what it’s like! Thanks for watching, and enjoy the trip. Shane
@@suepikeenergy Unless you’re in the first row there’s no direct aisle access like business class, so your neighbour in the aisle seat will still need to get up to let you out. Access ease is all relative to a persons size, however the best seats for access and space are the front row bulkhead seats which have loads of room and you can easily get past the aisle passenger without any disruption. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Shane
Nice job, but how was the recline of the Premium Economy seat in comparison to the minimal recline of a standard Economy seat? Despite hundreds of United flight reviews, I have yet to find a review of the recline range & its level of comfort …. lol
Thank you! It’s slightly more at 6 inches, rather than the 4 inches that you get in United economy on the 789-10, I know it doesn’t sound like much but it’s noticeable and that bit extra was great angle for comfortably watching movies and a little better for nodding off to sleep - a glass of wine or two definitely helped with that last part! Thanks for watching! Shane
Star alliance status; otherwise it’s a day pass purchase. You will get access to the ANA lounge in Tokyo if you book a codeshare flight on an ANA connection. Unfortunately US airlines are a bit behind the Japanese airlines for this benefit. Safe travels! Shane
I'm going to fly LAX to Tokyo, next March, with my son and his wife. I'm probably never going to do it again, so I'm seriously thinking Polaris. I'm also checking flights on ANA.
This sounds like a great trip, and Tokyo never disappoints. Polaris is a great hard product, and hopefully you get a good crew - when you do it goes from great to fantastic. My next Tokyo trip is an ultra budget flight on Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ low cost subsidiary. Definitely not as exciting. Safe travels and thanks for watching ! Shane
@billkallas1762 I’m envious. Kyushu and Okinawa are on my list; I’m obsessed with volcanoes and would love to visit Mount Aso in Kyushu, it’s an active volcano and the caldera is huge - over 100km.
Shane.

I’m so happy RUclips recommended your channel. The videos are well done and very informative. Keep up the great work! 👍
Thank you I really appreciate it, more than you realise. Thanks for watching! Shane
Glad to hear. I’ll be in the same 21L heading to Singapore soon.
Good decision! The seat is much more comfortable than SQ premium economy. Thanks for watching! Shane.
Great video and production value. Very informative. Well done Shane.
Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback, and thanks for watching! Shane
Why doesn’t anyone ever show in detail, the recline of the seat and/or what the space looks like when seated?

Would you recommend the two seats directly in front of you? (20J & 20L) or is the bulk head an issue? I'm 6'2" 190 lbs.

Thanks for the vid I’m doing 21L to Tokyo from Chicago this summer

When the person in front of you reclines, do you have space to get out of your seat?

@@PlaneShane After Tokyo, we are going to catch another flight, down to Kyushu. (I was hoping for the Bullet train)
