FILM DESCRIPTION:
Bill (James Belushi) is a penniless drifter who scams strangers out of just enough money to feed himself and his partner in crime, an orphan girl known as Curly Sue (Alisan Porter). Bill and Curly Sue target Grey (Kelly Lynch), a yuppie lawyer, but their con takes an unexpected turn when the successful woman begins to like the ramshackle duo. She decides to take the girl in and falls in love with Bill, but there's one problem -- Grey's jealous, conniving boyfriend, Walker (John Getz).

No matter how many times I’ve seen this movie, this scene always brings me to tears. Thank you John Hughes. Thank you for home alone 1 and 2, thank you for curly Sue, thank you for Dutch, thank you for planes trains and automobiles, thank you for all the great 80s movies, pretty in pink, 16 candles, the breakfast club, Ferris Bueller‘s Day off! Underrated movie. Just watched it again. It's so cute.
As a father to my little daughter and a husband to my wife, the way they all hug each other with so much love and emotion at this moment, gets me every single time.
Oh yes I feel good every time I see this moment between all of them it’s a touching moment.❤️

At the same time, I felt bad for Curly Sue that she was crying thinking Bill was out of her life forever since he told her that he will only take care of her until he finds someone who could take care of her and when that happens that he will leave a ring for her to say goodbye. Plus, a scene before this, Grey told her that Bill can't adopt her. Overall, perhaps they shouldn't have given her a scared surprising shock making her cry since that ring left for her was not meant to say goodbye from Bill but meant to say that it's a gift for her to show how happy he is to be her adopted father.

Exactly his conning did bring them together for a reason I know deep down he didn’t mean to do that they were in a tough situation so Grey has a big heart to take them in because she really loves Sue like her daughter so she went through everything and to adopt her that incredible from taking her in to being a adoptive mother for Sue you can tell the bond between them is absolutely perfect and finally bill became the adoptive father so it worked out for all of them.❤️

I love the love here. Biologically speaking, she wasn't his. I love how people can look past that. He was her father.
The best part of this scene is how Bill put away his ego and let sue stay in a stable home. Proves that he loved her enough to let grey give her what he can't give her.

Bill was looking for a good home for her to be taken care of someone who had more power than him and he mentioned that when the two of them go their separate ways, he would leave a ring for her to say goodbye but luckily that ring he left for her was meant to say that he is now her adopted father and a gift to her to show how happy he is to be her adopted father and over the internet it was mentioned that the ring was meant to say that he won't be a scam artist anymore. However, Grey probably shouldn't have surprised her like that since she sounded extremely sad hearing that Bill won't be able to adopt her and became even more sad and cried thinking Bill left her after seeing the ring. Instead, I guess Bill and Grey shouldn't of surprised her but just told her that they are legally adopting her having the power to now be her parents.

@@cleftheart1969 Yes, I remember earlier in the movie when Bill went to go job hunting without telling Curly Sue, Curly Sue asked her if he left a ring or a note and when Grey said "no", she must have felt calm realizing he didn't leave her when she said "then he'll be back" assuming he went to go trick someone to get food for her. Also yes, I could also picture Bill and Grey going to conceive a child together to make Curly Sue a big sister where one way to show how they were her legal parents was when they talked to her in a strict parent way on the last scene on her first day of school saying "no swearing, no punching, etc." Plus, during the end credits it showed them how they're a happy family together but, it's unknown whatever happened to Grey's jealous fiancée Walker (then became her ex-fiancee) because the last thing shown about him was that Grey knocked him out with her car in the parking garage where hopefully he never came to her apartment to confront her at all.

@@stevewright8143 yes Grey made it possible for everyone to be together they love each other I found out Bill isn’t sue father still he loves her like his daughter and everyone bond and not about blood so we got to thank Grey she made it possible for everyone to be together she loves them and forgiving after what Bill did so there is love between them.

Especially Bill said that he's looking for a home for Curly Sue to be taken care by someone who will be able to take care of her and not someone like him and mentioned when it's time for them to go their separate ways, he will leave a ring for her to say goodbye which really gave her a surprise not wanting him to go. However, the ring here he left was meant to say that he will now be her adopted father and over the internet it was mentioned that the ring was meant that he has stopped becoming a scam artist. Grey of course knew the truth what the ring was about since Grey and Bill should not have given her a sad shock like that but just told the truth that they will now be her adopted parents while giving her a ring as a gift to say how happy they are to be her adopted parents.

Forgot home alone
Didn't the majority of his films take place around Chicago? Often in the upscale suburb of Winnetka, and often set in the fictional town of Shermer? The main exception being Home Alone 2 which by it's very title states takes place in NYC. Though, I believe Some Kind of Wonderful is a John Hughes movie and it's set in Los Angeles, but it's mainly a recycling of Pretty in Pink.
I remember that secretary lady as the maid at home nurse for Sophia in an episode of Golden Girls. Also Curly sue played Blanches granddaughter as well.
Yep, the actress is Edie McClurg. She was pretty much a small character in most of John Hughes' movies. She was also the lady behind the counter of the Marathon Car rental company in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, when Steve Martin went on his F-bomb tirade. In the mid/late 80s, she played the neighbor Mrs. Poole on the NBC sitcom Valerie's Family.

@Katie Davis Well, he did mention that he was not her father explaining how he met her mom in a bar (being unknown if they were ever friends) and she died one day where Bill said that he decided to raise Curly Sue helping her find someone who can take care of her and said that when it was time for them to go their separate ways, he would leave a ring for her which was what made her sad and cry here thinking Bill left her but it actually was meant to say that he won't be a scam artist anymore and that he is now her adopted father where it's a gift to tell her how happy he is to be her adopted father.
Yes however this isn’t her real father he raised her ever since her mom real mom died she buried in Florida as bill said he was a one night stand between him and her real mom but Sue not his however he loves Sue as his daughter so this scene like Grey he was capable of adopting Sue because he now fit to be a parent he stopped all his bad con ways so yes it was a big surprise for Sue she got both the parents she needs and loves Grey is perfect for her but not replacing her real mom in any way but wasn’t talked about how close her and her real mom was.

@Tru Vi My guess could be that she told the staff at the orphanage that the reason she is called Curly Sue is because she mentioned that there was a guy she and Bill stayed with where that guy said that she looks like the character Curly from "The Three Stooges" and nicknamed her as Curly too much where the name Curly stayed with her as her name was Sue then maybe the orphanage staff didn't like that and tried to make her look less like Curly from "The Three Stooges" by cutting her hair.
No the reason they cut was it was long and long hair is an easy spot for lice if she gets it
@@stephaniecruzado384 That would be surprising only because, girls are meant to have long hair. However, maybe her hair could have had lice (as you mentioned) because she and Bill spent many years of their lives as poor people traveling from place to place.

Her ex fiance put Curly in child services which is an orphanage and Bill in Jail as a homeless man..The ring was stolen by a hobo that was in a shelter staring at curlys finger when bill looked at him strange..Pretty much the Lawler released them both and has custody of Curly..They lived in the streets
