I did a new install of Windows 7 after Windows 10 almost killed my computer but couldn't do any updates on 7 until I watched your video!So I went into Services (C drive)and stopped windows update then changed my settings to "never update" in Control panel .After that I was able to manually download and install some critical updates such as Service Pack 1. Now I don't get the error message anymore!I restored my settings after I was done.Thanks a million!

Pulled out an old Compaq Presario from storage. Worked fine, but could not get Windows Update to work at all and it hadn't been updated in quite a few years. Did my searches on the Internet to find a solution. Frustrated that none of the tricks I found worked. Found this video and tried the second trick. IT WORKED! Thank you for posting this.

Downloading those catalog/files was a bit challenging. Had to put them on a thumb drive, then install on my Dell Vostro 1720. When i tried on the old Dell to get to site where those 2 files were, it wouldn't let me! So installing each one individually, and restarting each time, then checking for updates for 32 bit Win7 Home if found 190 updates to install. So my next step is to install the win10 install media upgrade i have on a thumb drive. Only thing i know i need to do is have the thumb drive plugged in, shut down, start up and keep clicking F12 to boot to the thumb drive, and i'm good to go. Not very tech savy, but extremely persistent! Thanks much for your help

I have 64bit operating system so tried it, the first file was done perfectly, however the second file showed an error:
The update is not applicable to your computer.
Do u have any suggestion?
Make sure the 2nd file is correct for your particular OS (64bit).
Well done video. My issue is that second download (3172605), when I try to install it says "The update is not applicable to your computer." ??? But the first one installed just fine. I've got Windows 7 64 bit, but I can't update Windows or Microsoft Security Essentials.... both give error messages. Don't like not having a firewall. Any thoughts?

Thanks KK. The third method, the big guns, worked for me. Delete the contents of Computer/C/windows/software distribution and the next attempt to update worked as expected.for Win 7.

I had AVG do all the driver updates but had one driver missing which I really needed so coming on to youtube I tried a few different things and nothing seemed to work. I came across your channel and followed every step on this pc and managed to sort my other pc out. Your tutorial really helped and I was able to finally have the missing driver updated by AVG. I have 167 updates due which did take a few restarts on the pc and an overnight episode but proud to say as of this morning all issues solved thanks to your excellent tutorial. Best tutorial I have come across on RUclips. Thank you again. Dave

When i got to download the files i was able to download both but one file wasn't able to download everything on that file which was the second one. I started this because my windows didn't want to run it didn't give me an error like yours it just said that it couldn't start to check for it because my service wasn't running. But my internet has been working before this windows issue i had to fix browser errors with the proxy it was hell to try and install an updated norton before i tried updating my windows 7 up to date to try and upgrade to Windows 10. I went my browsers and updated what i could since the error restricted me of internet access even with ethernet directly connected. I was finally able to manage after uninstalling outdated applications like curseclient,ventrilio,bingbrowser,etc. But Norton didn't download properly so had to un and reinstall. So now im dealing with the windows update and i was wondering if i should turn everything back on from the windows automatic update files you tampered and install the first update you did before doing the second one. Because then i ended up with the error you got from trying to download them.
I have seen alot of videos how to solve this problem but none, not even this one solved my problem. I have recently did a fresh install windows 7 64 bit on a hp p6142p and acer aspire 1410. Whoever is frustrated and can't get anywhere, I did this. I went to the update catalog website and downloaded all x64 windows 7 platforms and first use my theory on the hp computer first when my friend asked for help to solve windows update errors after he did factory reset. Be cautious there will be details for the manually updates which version of windows is it for. I have saved into 2 folders after I started to install manually one by one the updates. The only thing I didn't do is check time to time if it finally updates on its own. After almost 90% of manual updates I had a gut feeling it would work which it did FINALLY. However it used so much space that it was ridiculous. Even though I have solved the issue and install some basic software like Microsoft office, some games and etcetera, I needed to do fresh install for the acer computer because it had a virus whenever i connected to the internet. It did ran good the movies, games, software and etcetera but still have viruses. I started to check every 5 manually updates to see it finally picks up but it seems like it took a long time. Finally I came across windows6.1-kb3125571-v4-x64 and it started to update on its own after the restart it asked for afterwards. I think as long as most updates are manually install, especially windows 7 service pack 1, you should be fine. I will keep the manually update download saved for future reference windows 7 64 bit users. I will backup with using acronis software so I don't have to do updates again on my acer laptop. This time I learned what to do without using too much space on the hard drive. On my acer laptop, I didn't do same mistake download most of manually install updates that would take too much space and limitated into half. software backup could be used sata and ide hard rives.
Before this video, I had 3 update errors with total 302 MB.
After I downloaded the two files and checked for updates and it said "Windows Updated!" Huh...That's odd! It didn't show the 3 updates that had errors! Why is that? Any way downloading the two files did it for me. Thanks Kirt you are great.

Thank you so much for all your help, my son bought a HP desktop from the pawn shop for 10$ and they said it was broken. I changed out the hard drive and installed windows 7 then it wouldn't update, after viewing your video I'm now able to update. I'm getting important updates now this well also fix my ethernet controller driver problems, along with PCI simple communication controller,SM bus controller problems. Thanks again

I have a Win7 64 Dell Laptop that has both of these updates installed but each time I reboot, it hangs for a very long time showing its doing an update and it then builds a 3 - 7GB file on my drive, but never finishes. I can delete the files, reboot, and again I get the 45 minute hang at boot, and it again builds up massive files that take forever to build and Ive never been able to fix this issue. Its an I5 Dual core 2430M, 3.0Ghz max with 16gb ram, but I just bought a used Dell 7940 Laptop with an I7 4-core and bought a 4tb ssd for it and doubled the Ram to 32gb. It is Win 10, so im going to get rid of this old setup. I had put an SSD into this one and its been fine for work, but its showing its age now so I got a replacement for it and will soon set it up. I appreciate the vid, but even this fix didn't change mine from building the huge files and delaying on each startup. Well, I wrote that before deleting the files in the last part of your vid, so maybe it will work Afterall. It seems to never finish but when I go into C Drive, Properties, Disk Cleanup, I can see the files there but if I delete them, then the 45 min delay comes back so I just leave the files now. They are called "Windows Update Cleanup" and checking now, they are 3.83GB this time. I'm afraid to delete them because of the forever boot (45min), but Ill have to try it after doing all of your steps to see if maybe we finally fixed it. I spilled coffee on this when it was new, and it was a full cup right into the keyboard draining out of the battery terminals shutting it off instantly and although I have used it for 12 years straight now, after I cleaned up all the coffee in it, the laptop monitor does not work unless I push down on the cable attached to the MB, and once I get that done it then displays on my external monitor. Anyway, I greatly appreciate the input, Ill get back to you if it worked. I am not too worried about it now that I have its replacement with me. Thanks again.

Detailed but not too lengthy of a tutorial. Sadly nothing worked for me. Second update was not applicable to my computer but the first update installed. Deleting the objects in the software distribution folder didn't work completely. Was unable to delete Data Store folder and Reporting Events text file.

Will updating fix all my errors like null injection, an error occur and etc?

i have windows 8.1 where i download the catalogs for windows 8.1?
I had 2 issues. First was an update error code 80072efe which required downloading an update direct from MS. The Second issue was a Failure to Install Code 80092004 which required downloading and installing files associated with SHA hash checks.
The 2nd fix worked for me. Thanks for sharing the exact name of the updates from the catalog.

Great work pal, ive been struggling with my windows 7 for weeks after i factory restored my desktop PC,
The "check for updates' just would not work anymore, always gave a red error code message. 80072EFE. (This has never happened before in the 11yrs ive owned this PC)
After following your video to the letter and installing both of the Microsoft update catalogue files, my Windows 7 Updates are now working again.

there was a problem starting setup. but we're unable to run this tool on your PC. if you continue experiencing problems, reference the error code when contacting customer support. error code : 0x80072F8F - 0x2000.

Thank God for you man... My computer hadn't updated for 700 odd days...it was shown up on the Avast Clean up Application/program I didn't know about this and when I realized I found you. Followed this all the way through the first downloads I already had and then I followed the second route... The third I would have done because if it doesn't work you can't break it... There was 13 important updates I hadn't got and a few optional which I've just left alone.

Hi Ki, my problems started when I noticed my right side 2 USB ports are not working. When i looked it stated I needed an update, but each time I have tried to load the update it kicks out with an error? HHMMM "Now what to try?
This worked for my 2010 laptop I resurrected the other day when my new mobo didn't work for my new computer build I sent it in for RMA. I accidentally broke the old one so going back is not an option. While taking it out heard some snapping noises since a screw was still holding it in, oops. but now the laptop is updating correctly after 5 tries at a system image redo from 2015. Unfortunately after the system image was done it wasn't letting me update and was giving this error code (80072EFE) which I couldn't find a solution to on windows' website or elsewhere. The other sites solutions didn't fix it but you did! downloading 122 updates now, 893 mbs, It'll be a few till I know this was 100% effective. Thanks again, this beats hitting check for updates and immediately failing like before.

I tried both of those files, and the system said they were not needed. I have not had a successful update since the release of 4012215 (March 2017). I have downloaded that file and I am attempting to load it now. My system has been sitting on the "Updates are being installed" window and has the initializing installation showing, but nothing has happened for over 30 minutes now. HELP!
Is there a way to update the Windows Update history? I have failed updates that install successfully later, but they don't update their status from failed to successful, which can lead to unnecessary effort to get them installed when they're already installed. It can get messy. So, I want to delete the failed status log for every failed update I install manually. Is it possible? Deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder is not a solution. It deletes everything in the updates history.

I have a different problem my pc does download and updates but when i restart and check for updates it will show the same update so i have to update it again then when i restart again it seem that its a never ending same updates does this mean my computer is infected with virus? i did a virus scan and nothing? i also tried emptying the recycle bin then after restarting all the files inside the recycle bin is back ....
