You've been led right. Pretty much everything he does is a live, single shot video. Big shout out to the creatovity of Samuel who makes these vids and always keeps them interesting.

Ren was in the comments during the premiere of his latest release Sick Boi. He was asked about Hi Ren and he said it was done in one take and this was the fourth try at a entirely live performance.

Nice reaction. I’m currently addicted to watching people watch Ren. I would encourage you to give it another listen. Mental illnesses and personality disorders aside, every single one of us has a shit-talker that lives in our head and beats us up from time to time, usually when we are trying to do something new, creative or risky. It’s a constant internal battle with yourself. It’s not something only mentally ill people confront, it’s a daily experience. The truth is you can’t get rid of the shit-talker and you can’t argue with it. You can only be aware that it’s there and learn how to follow yourself and decide what you take in. It’s a dance. A pendulum. You can’t have light without dark. No dark without light. Every inside has an outside. Up and down. You get the point. In my opinion, he is portraying a universal experience through art. He is a genius who makes art from pain. And as alan watts said in better words than this… the manure is necessary to the perfume of the rose. Life is polarity and the more we can relax and learn to dance the easier it gets. That’s my two cents worth.
Hi Tracy! Yes I call that voice MR. RESISTANCE... I try to kick his ass every day by getting up early, going to the gym, and working hard on my guitar skills and my channel... but occasionally he wins and I'll lie on the couch and eat a whole pecan pie with whipped cream. Loved your post, and loved the song! :)
I hear you on that. I have lived with a very loud shit talker for a long time that I tried to fight every day and eventually I realized that by fighting it I was just feeling tired all the time from an internal battle that I did not have to fight. As I learn that it’s always going to be there and it isn’t me, I’m actually the one listening to it, I don’t fight as much. I trust myself more. It’s a process for sure. Next check out Jennie and screech full. It’s heavy in a different way and also genius.

He is originally from Wales, as has been pointed out, and from Brighton on the south coast. He started as a street busker I believe.
He fell ill around 10 years ago and basically was told it was in his head. Then he was later diagnosed with Lymes disease which has caused complications due to the very late diagnosis. Amazing human being, I can’t begin to express how much this one song has helped me over the past month.

Discovered while playing on the streets as a teenager, he signed with Sony Records in 2010. Due to a seemingly mysterious disease discovered in the same year, he got dropped. It took professionals years to discover that Lyme disease was the cause of his suffering. During the time he was stuck in his bedroom, Ren turned to writing and producing songs about his illness, isolation and depression. With the help of donators, Ren underwent several stem cell transplants.

Really interesting reaction. I have been watching Ren busking in Brighton (UK) for seven years and he is never less than captivating. He has many videos showing his guitar skills and overall brilliance. I hope you enjoy your Ren journey. It’s an exciting ride!
This song is a landmark moment in music history. There are almost no other single songs that are as impressive and important as this one. It's made me reconsider what I used to think was 'great music'.

Thats a standard hospital gown all over Britain :D they make you wear them when you are a patient even only for a day.
So fresh. So unique. I don't even know what to call it. It's music, it's a song, it's rap, it's an acting performance. It's genius.
What do I think? The entire performance was filmed in single one take with 2 cameras, maybe 3, at different angles, then the videos from each camera were spliced together at the precise moments to catch each scene without interrupting and leaving the audio intact. Ren is that talented that he could perform it live from start to finish. 😊

All. His work is live one take, never does it any other way. I've never seen such intelligent creative broadly talented person. Genuinely unique, challenge anyone to name a performance artist to match the spectrum of his talent brought together in a single performance.
Yes people this was all one take. You are actually watching him play , rap and sing. Which is just ridiculous. He is a musical and lyrical genius. I can't stop watching this and Jenny & Screeches tale not to mention Violet's tale which is my favorite by the way. Spread the word people. Everyone needs to find this artist. ❤️👍
As other have already pointed out, this is not a one-take video. Sound was recorded live though which is amazing. In the comments of Jonathan Hiller's reaction to Hi Ren, the cinematographer Samuel Perry-Falvey clarifies how they did this.
Ren has said many times that A Clockwork Orange is one of his favorite movies. Interesting how that came up in your reaction. :)

And yes, he can do this live live, not just in continuous take videos like this one. Check out some of his street performances with The Big Push, they are all excellent and what they do, but the things this man is capable of on a guitar are filthy.
I can tell you they did four takes they used the fourth. It was a hundred percent live no breaks! He got a lot of his chops as a street busker🌿💔

I'm surprised you didn't notice the microphone and wireless. This *is* live. According to Ren, this was take 4. Audio was live, though you can see an obvious video edit at two minutes forty-four seconds of the original. The man is quite skilled.

More I watch, more I learn, more valid my reaction to his performance feels. I mean, not a single host has complained about the 9 minutes Ren's asked from us; perhaps a 'wow - 9 minutes?' at first. Again, underscores how connected this song/video makes us feel.

Ren McGill is his name.He is Welsh, but is in Canada atm treating his illness..right as his career was taking off unfortunately. He is definately a talented story-teller as you will see in several of his clips.

Great reaction, I see others have already stated he did this live one take. Before he got sick (lyme disease/autoimmunity, extremely painful and debilitating at times) he got noticed by Sony and had a deal in the works, not sure if it fell through or he just couldn't move forward, but he ended up cutting his teeth at live performances by playing street shows and in alleyways around his hometown of Brighton, which allowed him not to be far from home if he Lyme disease was to flare up. He was in a band called Big Push I believe and often plays on his own or with a kid named Sam Tompkins, who has an amazing upper range voice.
As a part time and very mediocre guitarist singer myself, strictly for fun, he almost makes myself, and friends who are seasoned musicians, a little perturbed when we started checking out his catalogue, he's so damn good. He has a song that is a tip of the hat to the Beastie Boys that any hip-hop head worth their salt would put at the top of their playlist list, he's got some club type songs, they sound good, but not my thing, but then his street performances he does covers of stuff from Bob Marley, to Iron Maiden to Etta James, and his electric guitar skills are off the charts, and when he sings the blues, if you couldn't see him, you'd swear you were listening to a grizzled old legend like Muddy Watters or BB King, the kid is the real deal!

Unfortunately Ren recently had to check into the hospital in Canada and is estimated to be there for at least six months. I suffer from alot of the same issues, lyme disease and severe depression. Hopefully he'll make it out soon and healthy.
