Hey bro means so much you donating to help me get treatment and you taking the time to check out my back story, glad the song connected and I really appreciate kind words the support! Much love man!! The article you found about being bedbound that many hours a day was from 2015, i since had two stem cell transplants which made me way more functional, and am currently in canada treating the residual brain damage and autoimmunity :)
Wow, thank you for watching and making such incredible art! It's rare to see artists so supportive of reaction channels. The ad revenue is the least you deserve. I just donated a little extra I could spare and look forward to hearing more of your work. I hope you can see how many people you've inspired and are now behind you. I'm glad you are doing better and best of luck on your creative journey and recovery. Best Wishes from BC!
Ren massively hope you get the treatment you need so much, and the recognition you deserve so much, I hope it's not just the reactors that benefit from this amazing art , much love man
I'm a musician & was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (not Lyme Disease). Mine was triggered by pregnancy when I was 18/19yrs old. I spent yrs being told I had a serious mental illness despite my physical symptoms; "it was all in my head". It took over 10 years to get even a basic diagnosis & I can only treat the symptoms not the disease itself. I suffered seizures, memory loss, awful joint swelling & unbearable pain, couldn't get out of bed because of exhaustion & chronic fatigue/weakness that was exacerbated by insomnia. The worst thing by far though was my awareness in the deterioration in my musical ability & losing the manual dexterity I once had. To go from the level I once was able to play at to regress to what I had been as a child was soul-crushing, all the more so because to most people, especially my Drs this was inconsequential & merely an inconvenience. I can't even put into words how much I admire Ren for releasing this song & sharing his experiences with so many people. The vulnerability, strength of will & courage he demonstrated during this performance, not to mention his sheer talent, absolutely blew me away. Autoimmune Diseases are hell. I manage now to play again & try to create the kind of music I want to, but I had to accept that some things, once gone, can never be recaptured. Thank you for your very empathetic reaction & thank you Ren for sharing this amazing motivational work of creative genius. I know Ren's in Canada receiving treatment ATM & I hope with all my heart he finds & receives what he needs. x
Hi Anne, thanks for sharing your story. I'm so sorry you went through all of that. I really can't imagine everything you experienced. Good on you for making the most of it and persevering with your music. May you always have that passion and outlet. ❤
I can only hope that people are downloading Ren’s music. The fact that someone with this amazing level of talent had to start a go-fund-me to pay for his treatment in Canada is criminal at best. Help the guy out… BUY his music
There was so much profound mythology going on there. Ren's performance reminded me of something the comparative mythologist Joseph Campbell said about psychosis: the psychotic is drowning in the waters in which the mystic swims.
If im not mistaken i think this song is about the psyschosis hes got. Just showed my 17 yr old daughter this today and she finally doesnt feel alone in the world anymore! She has psychosis and relates massively to ren good and bad. Ren has genuinely saved my daughters life with this song...
Tortured Mind = Musical Lyrical Genious! He plays several instruments, is Completely Independant too! The Music Industry should be worried!!! From Tom Macdonald to this Cat... they're hurting them where it hurts! But We are getting treasures like this! Can you imagine how this would've been stripped down, if even allowed to be created!!!
I'm turning 44 on Thursday. I first was diagnosed with depression at age 12. I contacted Ross River virus which left me with chronic fatigue. I was in constant pain but was dismissed as "growing pains" as well as "puberty blues". I self medicated for the next 20 years, some ineffectual therapy until I found the right person. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia & bipolar following a massive breakdown. But there is hope. Just that little glimmer that keeps me going
The beauty of Ren's performance is that it is IMPOSSIBLE at any given point to know what to expect! It's a mind-boggling, staggering punch straight to the head and heart 🤯💔 ending with a resonating, powerful message of hope and inspiration ❤️🔥🙏❤️🩹 As a fellow sufferer and student of psychological warfare, I found your thoughtful comments, humanity, and generosity to be absolutely brilliant. I wish I could click "Love" and subscribe! Much respect for your reaction and support, my good man 💞💞💞
I’m a 54 year old woman and this song/performance has been so powerful to me. I’ve suffered from depression for basically my whole life and it’s a struggle. It’s not just me that suffers, but my husband, my kids and my parents. I relate to REN’s words. I loved his message of hope and the voice you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope. I tear up when he breaks into song singing from the top of his lungs. It’s obvious even though it’s the first time I’ve watched you (I did subscribe ❤️) that you truly appreciate music and understand how it’s another form of art. Best of luck to you.
Hi Beth, thank you for sharing and for your kind words. I'm sorry you've dealt with that! My Dad had depression before passing and I know how keeping things bottled up can affect people that are close and how it may not be obvious to others. It's great to see Ren's music inspiring people to open up and support each other. All the best! ❤
What impresses me the most about this song (besides the song itself lets be real) it that the reaction to it is almost universal. No matter where the creators come from, what gerne they normally review or where their expertise lies (just to name a few ive seen: Metalheads, Rapper, Psychology experts, Vocalists, Guitar teachers and even a cameraman), they are simply speechless. This is a piece of genius.
I haven’t seen a reaction video to this song yet, and I’ve seen quite a few over the last three days, that haven’t raved over this performance, I’m sure there are more out there to watch, it seems every man and his dog are making reaction videos to this song, now that is telling me something, it’s quite obvious this song has hit people who have seen it and are telling and sharing it to as many people as they can, and it’s totally deserved, much respect to Ren and his art, what he’s been through has made him who he is, simply a genius of our day
I heard this song just a week ago and since then I have been watching all the reactions to it. Anf this is one of the best I've seen because you pointed out everything that's most important, at least for me. I have been in a similar situation like Ren for 6 years now and yes, this song, as well as "Sick Boi", is so important for me because no one talks about chronic/autoimmune illnesses and what kind of a hell it is living that way. We are invisible to the world and I feel like Ren is the voice for all of us. I cannot express my gratitude enough for what he has done with these two songs. Thank you for this reaction. Love from Serbia.
Thank you for your kind words and sharing this with us. I'm so sorry you have been going through that. I cannot imagine what that is like. It's great that Ren is providing this outlet and expression for anyone in a similar position while educating others. All the best to you. ❤
Ren no longer bed bound, he had I think stem cell therapy and really had rebirth. ( him standing up was definitely symbolic of that life change You should see video of him before that when he was so frail and thin and depressed. He still suffering through i. He, has to spend 6 months in Canada at the height of his career, and Instead focus on his new treatments. Which is sucj bummer. I bet he is getting offers for gigs and interviews like crazy but health first.
Ren is everything.....a Poet, a Songwriter, a Composer, a Singer, a Rapper, a Musician, an Actor....an Artist. What's even more wild about this video is that the performance is LIVE. No pre-recorded music and lip-syncing here. Ren has videos that highlight his rapping (the Hunger), highlight his singing (the Big Push...I Shot the Sheriff cover), highlight his storytelling (the Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full). Where Ren seems to Shine is in his Live performances. Keep going down the rabbit hole, you won't regret it.
Of all REN’s music I think ‘chalk outlines’ has grown to be my least favourite. I think part of the problem is the duet with Chinchilla because Whilst she opens strongly and closes strongly, there are a few moments in which she is just ever so slightly off, and it’s actually quite jarring.
If you do go down Rens rabbit hole, its a wild ride of many great styles and stories. I suggest listening to his triolgy of Jenny's tale, Screeche's tale and Violet's tale in that order to get the tragic twist at the end of abuse. If you want to hear his vocals, Id suggest anything he does with the artist Chinchilla. Plus his live stuff busting in Britain with Big Push is amazing as well.
@@ThomFoolery1 And do follow up David's suggestion of checking out his work with The Big Push, a mainly busking band from Brighton. The range of Ren's talents, the versatility, is staggering. Vocal complexity, acoustic 6 string, electric 6 string, lead guitar and a driving bass player! Really enjoyed your reaction, could tell from your face that you were feeling everything I felt when I first heard this.
@@ThomFoolery1 It is spell binding. That trilogy is like a short movie. Someone coined the term Bard-core. It is so appropriate. That trilogy is poetic, rhythmic, melodic, tense, brutal... Love it!
I have literally been watching reactions to this masterpiece for three days. There is an amazing and wonderful thing going on with this video in particular. This has been spreading around the world like wildfire. I have seen an incredible amount of people coming forward with stories of their own personal struggles. This has been reactors and people in the comments section. It's relatable to people in all walks of life. We all have inner struggles and demons. Whether it's doubt, self esteem, addiction or mental health issues. So many are stepping forward saying that they felt totally alone in their battle. To find so many others feeling the exact same way. Proving the point, a falsehood. In a way no words can. People all over the world are finding a connection to an unexpected place. Each other. I think that with this one song he has proven his words correct. He IS a genius and the waves that he is creating are tsunami in scale. His music may be more important than he could ever imagine.
I think you bring out an important point, that we all feel alone in our struggles, but this is a falsehood. Father of lies, truth in a blender, indeed...
@@briansmith303 The odd thing, people will disbelieve things that they hear from others. But will jump to believe every dark or destructive thing even whispered by the tiniest part of themselves. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it greatly.
Well said, Dawn! I've seen a glimpse of this through the comments of this video and incredibly so on Ren's original video. Truly amazing how his art is giving people strength and an outlet to express themselves. I'm seeing nothing but love and supportive words from everyone. It's beautiful to see. ❤
Just 3 days, just his yt videos? Mate, I've been in the same boat for going on 8 weeks. he has a few good VODs on twitch (RenMakesTwitch) that go a bit behind the scenes on his stuff, including this video. He also asks his twitch chat for any ideas how we can help spread his music and fan the flames. How can we Ren Stans elevate him as high as we can?
Hi Thomas. Hey, it's been a while (ok, I'll stop the creepy but true first line, right there.) I just bumped into Ren's work in the past week (I live under a rock called "metal" these days, I guess) - Family hx of mental illness : check (dad was a naval ordnance officer in WWII - PTSD and dicey 50s/60 experimental mental health patient) - Exposure to further mental trauma (yep : mother was a child-abuse emergency intake caseworker in a big lumber town) - Job classically causes stress-to-total-avoidance in some patients: (check) - Job with a high suicide rate (none better... dentist) - Work with immune/auto-immune patients (3 years faculty at the U that attracts difficult cases throughout the PNW, often misdiagnosed) - History of self-isolation : fer chrissakes, I was an engineer for 15 year before becoming a dentist... shut the door and get the work done. I don't think I have that second voice... or at least not one that is constantly after me, tearing me down. ... So why do I tear up each time I see this man? I hope it is empathy, a sense that he could have been one of my patients had he been born stateside. ... and not a demon probing for weakness in this thick old skin. Ren is inspiring me to double down on the compassion I have for patients who 'have it tough', regardless of the cause. I'm fairly certain his case (the bits he's made public) should be mandatory review/report for each and every medical/dental student, every nurse. We have to be able to both help these folks, and self-assess to reduce the risk of becoming as a statistic. Too many statistics these days. Too many have left professions due to burnout, and the frustration of dealing those that don't want to be helped. So hey Thomas, it's been a while (lol... sorry ... the coping skills of medical people can be crude ... we called it "decompression".) I'm waiting to hear more of YOUR tunes. That metal bit is sick.
Well said my friend. Thank you for sharing this and sorry to hear about some of things you and your family have been through. What I think Ren is helping people do is empowering people to open up and be transparent about whatever demons they have, whatever struggles they're facing rather than just bottling it up with a brave face. It's amazing seeing the outpouring of love and support between strangers. Hope to see more of this in the world. Hope life is well for you mate and thanks for your support. Hope to make another song soon. 😄🤘
Your reaction was as genuine as his performance. I look forward to your journey with Ren. He amazes at every turn. If and when you do the Jenny, Screech, Violet triology be sure to do the full version, so many reactors screw up the order. Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla is beautiful. All of his busking on the streets of Brighton are great. He has an great catalogue.
Yes, the full version has an enormous impact. Even if the tales separately and in order are devastatingly strong, the full version is the thing to do. 👍
Great reaction, welcome to the Ren rabbit hole ;) its a deep one..pls check out: Ren - The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full) /// The Big Push - I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop /// Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live) you will not be disapointed by this genius ;)
I'm hard to impress...but this is deserving of the attention it's getting. Thank you for showcasing Ren. His guitar work here reminds me of Kaki King...I know that's a super obscure reference...anyone else? I really liked his song Chalk Outlines live w Chinchilla...this one is sung with lovely harmonies.
Great reaction. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 4 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live in a single take (although not necessarily the first take). His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard. His trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion. It needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. It has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are also worth checking out; they are simply amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up), their busking (street performances), concerts, and their live recordings, are awesome and well worth checking out. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability. Ren recently released his single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." As mentioned above, his latest release, “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” is another masterful work.
I have been a musician since the age of 15 myself and my reaction to this was very much like your own. I had tears in my eyes , I felt stunned, amazed and frankly in awe of his talent! He has created many other amazing tracks both by himself and as part of a band. Well worth going down the rabbit hole!
It's nice to hear someone do a reaction who can actually add something to the music. I'm not super involved in music theory and I know very little about the guitar. Hearing you describe the different things being done, why they're difficult, how they complement the song is really appreciated.
Thank you for your gorgeous, loveable reaction 💞 Darlings.. Not only Musicians go through this kind of journey. I'm almost 70 yo & I've been through it over & over, & over.. Ren articulated it so beautifully, brilliantly, kindly, lovingly, strongly, vulnerably, wisely. I'm sure MEGA millions, even billions relate to this song.
“Some people know me as the voice that they hear when you loosen the noose on the rope.” If you react to that, I am mediately subscribing. I would’ve subscribed anyway because your reaction was absolutely dope, but that line so many people miss it.
When you discover the world of "ren" and know this is a movement in music /arts that's touching people's souls and minds and just maybe Helping people along the way .
Here is some additional information on Ren's story, in case you didn't already know. I gathered it from an old newspaper interview and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician born in Wales on November 26, 1991. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which lead him to experience psychosis. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren's Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment. Check out and subscribe to his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times. Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity
His mental and physical problems notwithstanding... this reminded me a bit of the movie "Birdman." We all have those daily arguments with our own egos. We all have that little voice in our heads that tells us how awesome we are one moment and how pathetic and worthless we are the next. Brilliant performance.
Hey Thom! Wow that was powerful indeed. Have to google the lyrics, didn't catch all of them but dang... That was really something man. Thanks for the beautiful reaction to this, there's a lot of people out there with some kind of mental disorder (mildly or severe) which absolutely doesn't show to other people in first appearance. But it's a lifetime struggle for them. So yeah, this was really captivating... Later kerel 👊
Cheers buddy! Glad you enjoyed it. Very true, you never know what battles some people are facing. It's a good reminder to always be kind. Speak soon mate. 👍
It's like what my history lecturer told me at university. The personal story is as important as world events. I love the fact that you looked into the backstory of Ren before launching into his music. It's so important in his case. Not in every case. But the fact that you looked first before listening shows a very informed approach to your listening that not everyone has. Sorted.
Straight Shakespeare. As a chronic illness spoonie myself who also has mental Health issues, both for over half my life now, the soliloquy at the end isnt an afterthought, but an addition and enhancement to the work
I feel that last guitar riff was like a battle cry. Ren is a 21st century poet on the level of Bob Dylan. This is a masterpiece. Give Dylans Murder most foul a listen. Its on this level
Someone once said that "Life is suffering and by realizing this we transcend it." This is absolutely transcendent. Thank you for your wonderful and heartfelt reaction.
Ren is catharsical for me, and has been so for each and every time from all 70 times I watch him or a reaction of him. Thank you for a great reaction! Please check more by Ren, like I Shot the Sheriff, the band The Big Push, duets with Chinchilla, his Trilogy, Freckled Angels - a requiem to his late friend, and last but no least: Eden.
What a great reaction. You clearly recognise Ren's creativity, talent, authenticity and brilliance. I have been watching Ren performing live for seven years and it is great that he is finally going global. Another really important thing about his music is that it is encouraging other people to examine and share their own mental health issues. The stigma is melting, slowly but surely. If you want to hear more of his singing voice, check out Chalk Outlines (live), which is hauntingly beautiful. Then go further into Ren-World by watching some of his busking videos with The Big Push. Enjoy! PS Ren is actually 32, not 25.
You're right Jenny, he has definitely blown the lid off the long held practice of keeping mental struggles in the dark. He is a musical genius for sure and his music is absolutely going to change the world!❣🌍 (BTW, I think he's actually 31; birthdate: 29 March 1991)
The ren rabbit hole is real alice. I've been here for about 4 weeks but I do have recommendations for you and anyone else. Yes check out the trilogy if you want storytelling but do the whole thing as one from start to finish. If you want a visual feast of a video try money game. If you want to see his humor try 1990s. If you want to see his more rock rage against side try crucify your culture. If you want old skool hip hop try what you want. If you want chill out try diazipan. And if you want your heart ripped out and your head turned to mush and hear his best vocals try chalk outlines ft chinchilla. He really is a man of many talents and genre's and I can't wait for him to get better to shake up the music world. We need him to get better to make us get better and to make other musicians and artists get better at there game instead of phoning it in all the time. Ren I know you read these comments sometimes thank you for inspiring the meek to be strong
You definitely need to react to Jenny-Screech-Violet Tales from REN. Thanks for the reaction, Thomas. Glad you felt it so deep. Ren is definitely a genius.
'Such an important piece of art' ... I feel the same. 'Important for so many people' ... Definitely is an important piece of art for me. 'What an incredible human. What an incredible piece of art.' ... yeah. I'm in a rabbit hole, I think that's how you say it in English, of Ren pieces of art and reactions to Ren. And whatever that might be, wherever that is coming from, I feel kind of a bond and I feel thankful to you using these words. There seems to be some bonding going on globally between many that starts with these pieces of art of this incredible human that he is throwing at us. And while he is not really throwing them on us, only just having them posted on this endless ocean that is youtube, it feels like he is throwing a lot in our faces. Not so much in quantity or because he would do it so brutal, but in quality, in a frankness, honesty that is seldomly reached with yourself. Yes, 'live changing'. I think you are not to use that in the plenty reaction vids. Kind of a better live changing than the everyday fucked up live changing things like austerity measures, well funded hateful campaigns against minority groups, war and such. Feels like I will remember the moment this guy with his art came into my life. I'm 51 now.
I really enjoyed your reaction. Thank you. The trilogy is definitely worth checking out, "The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)" will find you all three videos in one. Ren has so many greats of various styles. A few I recommend are "Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla", the 'live' version is a must. "The Hunger" really showcases how well he can rap. Last but certainly not least "Depression" and "Penitence ft Molly McKinna" to slow things down a bit. 🙂
The more you learn about Ren and his friends the more unbelievable he is. Apparently this song took him a day to create. I've seen it performed live to an audience with a bunch of mikes surrounding his face. I'd watched enough reaction videos by that point that I caught that he swapped out the last lines about "I must not forget" with "we must not forget". Just changing the order. I preferred the video that you reacted to, which was made in a basement room in his apartment building without permission from the landlord. 4 live takes to get what they editted. I'd like to know how they got the handheld shots in there.
"9 minutes of watching this man and I feel love for him" I have watched almost every Hi Ren reaction video and I cannot think of a better way to describe the genius of the performance.
As I am suffering myself from double depression, depersonalization, anxiety disorder and a chronical pain disorder (e.g. 20+ days with headaches / month) for decades by now I feel so connected to Ren and this masterful piece of art he created and gave us. Also my "creative I" can understand his struggles so well. I wish I could hear the hope side stronger or at all. But he gives hope to hear hope some day.
Beautiful reaction mate.. Powerful stuff isn't it. "After 9 minutes of knowing this man, I feel love for him" I think that statement is pretty much nailed it for the vast majority of us. You should check out 'Chalk Outlines', 'How to be me', 'Money game Pt1 & 2' there's absolutely loads.. Check him busking doing a Black Sabbath, RATM mashup in the street. :)
Hey mate! Hope you’re doing well, and that you might return to dropping some more Ren reactions. Really appreciate your thoughtfulness and empathy in this one and Jenny&Screech.
I understand that some people who haven't dealt with medical issues just dont get this. Im glad you did. Being diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS at 61, I can relate to this in a much deeper way. Cant imagine having to suffer with Lyme disease at such a young age. I had great health in my younger years so I feel lucky. IAalso know someone in their 20's who has lyme. Its such a difficult disease to treat. Autoimmune diseases rob you of so much of your life and with invisible illnesses such as Lyme and MS you can look normal so its hard for to people understand the struggle. He is a huge inspiration. Creativity is such a great way to work through it As a designer Ive developed some devices which I will be patenting to help disabled people based on my experiences. Everything is for a reason. I've also taught myself to play guitar and really enjoy it. You just have to find other ways to get the most out of life.
Thanks for sharing this! I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis but good on you for looking at things in such a positive way, that takes a lot of strength. Amazing that you're finding outlets and helping others! People can achieve the most amazing things while in their darkest moments. Take care 🤗
Thomas, my friend. It's wonderful to be here again. First, a huge thank you to @renmakesmusic #renmakesmusic. I get you, is all I will say. That you get me, is an understatement. I will remember that monologue for the rest of my life; each time I feel caged in by my own desire to never put a step out of place, I will think of it & think of balance, of how - sometimes - it's OK to relax, sometimes not demand as much of yourself, that it isn't a battle, but there are victims, still. Thank you, Ren. My very best to you, & love from India. Thomas, I am so glad that I got to hear this for the first time here (before hearing the original, the blasphemy!). & once more I find myself sharing your reactions (possibly a degree higher) & what you've pointed out as key musical methods absolutely brilliantly. You're good at this, & should consider never taking a hiatus. ;) I happened to draw a similarity of process between this & Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody's conflicted conversations with oneself (speculation here) as well. When you say 'poignant', I'm literally thinking that that was the perfect word to use, in addition to maybe 'passionate', or 'heartrending', insofar as the latter can be positive as well (it can be thought of, as leaving your heart rent open, to feel more, I think). Thank you, Thomas, from the bottom of my heart. This has been wonderful, I promise you. As always, love from India, & a few hashtags to shut down this (lengthy, pardon me!) comment. Be Good! #queen #bohemianrhapsody @thomfoolery1 #ren #hiren _ MD
I loved your reaction and breakdown of this song, you seemed to understand more than most. It's mindblowing to see how much Ren resonates with so many people, I know 14 year olds who love it and I know some folk in their 70s who also respect and enjoy his music. He's massively underrated and hugely talented. Being independent allows him to say what he wants and it appears he's saying what people want to hear. Ren is the renegade we need for these times.
This piece should go down as one of the most influential pieces of art in this century. There is so much to be said about this but it's hard to classify as just a "Song" as it is so much more than that. I just want to thank REN for sharing this work of art with all of us. I am truly moved by it and have shared it relentlessly.
I love your reaction. You instantly recognized this performance as art. You so completely understand. I hope you also react to some of his street performances with "The Big Push"
Thanks for the reaction. Ren has been making music for over a decade, I think, so he hast a vast back catalog. Hip-hop, rap, ballads, reggae and bardcore. He is a musical genius and needs to be heard
Awesome reaction! and so heartfelt. It means a lot to me. I also loved your commentary after the video. You said it all ... incredible piece of art, words can't do it justice. My wife has bipolar for 20 years of our marriage. "Hi Ren" hit me like a sledgehammer ... beyond inspirational ... healing even? :) :)
Thank you best reaction i have seen I have lupus an autoimmune issues and this song might be the most relatable thing I have seen...I hold out hope he will find health ever day.
The thing that’s beautiful about this song is I feel everyone can relate to it. While I can not imagine what he’s physically been through anyone who’s suffered from addiction can relate. Anyone with mental illness or depression can relate. And even those who doubt themselves at times can relate. Ren is amazing. You MUST react to “The Tale of Jenny and Screech” full version by Ren. He truly is the Bob Dylan of this era.
You sir did the right thing. Donating the ad rev of your video to his cause is truely amazing. I salut you. I donated a small amount myself since his music and the story realy touched me. Thanks so much for the video. I left a sub for you and gonna check out more of your stuff the coming days.
Hope you get better man. The song is incredibly powerful!
Thank you for sharing yourself mate! First song in ages I felt in my heart ❤️
If this is the product of a damaged brain, I want one! Jokes aside fantastic piece, perfectly executed, bravo!
Ren massively hope you get the treatment you need so much, and the recognition you deserve so much, I hope it's not just the reactors that benefit from this amazing art , much love man
I am an ancient musician nearly at the end. This song changed me. I am not the person I was before I heard this.
@@ThomFoolery1 Thank you Thomas & much appreciated. xx
Your face while you watch...so attentive, open, kind, and human...
Precisely my impression. It reflects his empathy.
If im not mistaken i think this song is about the psyschosis hes got. Just showed my 17 yr old daughter this today and she finally doesnt feel alone in the world anymore! She has psychosis and relates massively to ren good and bad. Ren has genuinely saved my daughters life with this song...
One of his fan's coined his style as Bardcore and a lot of folks are running with.
Love how reactors sit in a moment of silence at the end of this masterpiece……
Tortured Mind = Musical Lyrical Genious!
He plays several instruments, is Completely Independant too!
The Music Industry should be worried!!!
From Tom Macdonald to this Cat... they're hurting them where it hurts!
But We are getting treasures like this!
Can you imagine how this would've been stripped down, if even allowed to be created!!!
Thank you so much for donating the advertising revenue from this to Ren's GoFundMe.
It is all automated so I can't take credit but I wanted to remind people that watching and sharing reactions will all go to Ren. 🙂
Bravo, @Thomas Pearson!
So awesome. ❤
What impresses me the most about this song (besides the song itself lets be real)
it that the reaction to it is almost universal.
No matter where the creators come from, what gerne they normally review or where their expertise lies (just to name a few ive seen: Metalheads, Rapper, Psychology experts, Vocalists, Guitar teachers and even a cameraman), they are simply speechless.
This is a piece of genius.
Well said, Gandalf. ❤
Totally, I’ve done the same and it is unreal.
@@ThomFoolery1 🖤
Much love and a big virtual hug to you @jovanakk Stay strong 💪🏻❤Love from West Australia
@@zed4225 Thank you. Hugs back from Serbia. 🖤
Hugs Friend!!
Chalk Outlines too. A duet with Chinchilla. Both have beautiful voices. It’s another one done live. Just them & an electric guitar.
Of all REN’s music I think ‘chalk outlines’ has grown to be my least favourite. I think part of the problem is the duet with Chinchilla because Whilst she opens strongly and closes strongly, there are a few moments in which she is just ever so slightly off, and it’s actually quite jarring.
It’s such a masterpiece, and definitely what the world needs now amidst so much division.
Thanks David! I heard about that trilogy. I definitely want to see that.
❤❤❤❤Feel Better Ren❤
How can we Ren Stans elevate him as high as we can?
same as m8 there's so many reactions they all say the same about ren he is one of a kind
Hi Thomas. Hey, it's been a while (ok, I'll stop the creepy but true first line, right there.)
I just bumped into Ren's work in the past week (I live under a rock called "metal" these days, I guess)
- Family hx of mental illness : check (dad was a naval ordnance officer in WWII - PTSD and dicey 50s/60 experimental mental health patient)
- Exposure to further mental trauma (yep : mother was a child-abuse emergency intake caseworker in a big lumber town)
- Job classically causes stress-to-total-avoidance in some patients: (check)
- Job with a high suicide rate (none better... dentist)
- Work with immune/auto-immune patients (3 years faculty at the U that attracts difficult cases throughout the PNW, often misdiagnosed)
- History of self-isolation : fer chrissakes, I was an engineer for 15 year before becoming a dentist... shut the door and get the work done.
So hey Thomas, it's been a while (lol... sorry ... the coping skills of medical people can be crude ... we called it "decompression".)
I'm waiting to hear more of YOUR tunes.
Ren is over 30years old now I believe !
Your reaction was as genuine as his performance.
I look forward to your journey with Ren.
He amazes at every turn.
If and when you do the Jenny, Screech, Violet triology be sure to
do the full version, so many reactors screw up the order.
Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla is beautiful.
All of his busking on the streets of Brighton are great.
He has an great catalogue.
Yes, the full version has an enormous impact. Even if the tales separately and in order are devastatingly strong, the full version is the thing to do. 👍
Thank you! I'll remember to do that. 👍
Yeah, like you said Hi Ren is lifechanging experience. Thank you for this sincere reaction !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is so rare to see people with the same fire that he has. First time seeing him but that fire can be seen from afar it's so bright.
First! Looking forward to this, I've been binging Ren's music since I discovered him a few weeks ago
Great reaction, welcome to the Ren rabbit hole ;) its a deep one..pls check out:
Ren - The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full) /// The Big Push - I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop /// Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live)
you will not be disapointed by this genius ;)
❤REN!!!🎉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻☮️💝💡
Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).”
His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great.
Most intelligent and emotional reaction to such a powerful artist. Bravo.
Thanks Tom! I appreciate you saying that. 😊
Thank you for your gorgeous, loveable reaction 💞
Darlings..
Very sure we both got emotional at the same time.
Powerful words
Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad."
Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment.
His mental and physical problems notwithstanding... this reminded me a bit of the movie "Birdman."
We all have those daily arguments with our own egos.
We all have that little voice in our heads that tells us how awesome we are one moment and how pathetic and worthless we are the next.
Brilliant performance.
Yes subscribed absolutely love genuine.
Ren posts the lyrics to almost all his songs in the comments on the original video.
As Moustashio says. It’s in the comments of Hi Ren.
As a chronic illness spoonie myself who also has mental Health issues, both for over half my life now, the soliloquy at the end isnt an afterthought, but an addition and enhancement to the work
He recorded this in ONE TAKE !!!!
Rens WHOLE CATALOG IS AMAZING! 🎶🎶🔥🔥 AND his BUSKING...😱❤️🔥 LOVE your dimples by the way! 😏🤷♀️ GREAT reaction! SUBBED for more! 😁
What a lovely, insightful reaction. "Hi Ren" moved me to no end; I'm still a little stunned after nearly a year.
One of my favourite reactions to Hi Ren, and I've watched a lot! Beautifully put, with genuine emotion.
You definitely need to react to Jenny-Screech-Violet Tales from REN. Thanks for the reaction, Thomas. Glad you felt it so deep. Ren is definitely a genius.
Welcome to the Ren SAGA ♥️ take your pick, he has lots more. Check out chalk outlines -live version with Chinchilla and so so many more ♥️
I agree with you. He's just brilliant.
I'm 51 now.
Don't worry Tom, it leaves everyone speechless.
This guy belongs on Broadway!!
I empathize so much, been in the same physical/mental state for 19 years now. I am proud for him, grateful for him.
Having watched reactions to this peace all night. Have to say yours is one of the most considered and eloquent. Great stuff!
To me it means (you asked) that I'll never have to explain myself to a therapist again. I'll just hit play
*... WHEN I AM GONE I WILL RISE IN THE MUSIC I LEFT BEHIND!!!*
Spot on deduction about love and hate, good and bad, without the pain and suffering how can we appreciate the love and the beauty within ourselves
"feels criminal to pause it". indeed, but thank you for sharing your thoughts at any rate. Thanks for the video.
Your reaction is the closest i’ve seen to mine. Haven’t stopped feeling the emotions no matter how many times i watch
"9 minutes of watching this man and I feel love for him" I have watched almost every Hi Ren reaction video and I cannot think of a better way to describe the genius of the performance.
what an incredible human ! For sure and you ar too ! Thanks !
Splendid reaction and thank you for acknowledging invisible chronic illness
Great and articulate reaction. Thanks for doing this song.
I loved this react❤❤❤❤..... from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you! ❤
Each f… line hits you like a truck of ideas, brilliant.
Great reaction.
REN.... The Hunger. Amazing.
Hey mate! Hope you’re doing well, and that you might return to dropping some more Ren reactions. Really appreciate your thoughtfulness and empathy in this one and Jenny&Screech.
This masterpiece needs to be part of every high school curriculum.
this song resonates universally.
Autoimmune diseases rob you of so much of your life and with invisible illnesses such as
Lyme and MS you can look normal so its hard for to people understand the struggle.
He is a huge inspiration.
Creativity is such a great way to work through it
As a designer Ive developed some devices which I will be patenting to help disabled people based on my experiences.
Take care 🤗
Welcome to the Ren Rabbit hole. It's marvelous down here!
Blessings man. 🔥🙏💯🎵🎵🎵🎵🎯👍
You're good at this, & should consider never taking a hiatus. ;)
I happened to draw a similarity of process between this & Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody's conflicted conversations with oneself (speculation here) as well.
Be Good! #queen #bohemianrhapsody @thomfoolery1 #ren #hiren

Amazing reaction - thanks!
Love your reaction to Hi Ren brother.
Beautiful words.
I love your reaction. You instantly recognized this performance as art. You so completely understand.
I hope you also react to some of his street performances with "The Big Push"
Commenting for the algorithm to increase exposure for this video. Great reaction and good on you for sending the revenue from this to Ren. Cheers.
Thanks for the reaction. Ren has been making music for over a decade, I think, so he hast a vast back catalog. Hip-hop, rap, ballads, reggae and bardcore. He is a musical genius and needs to be heard
Amazing song and powerful reaction. I enjoyed everything about this. Thank you !
Truly a masterpiece for humanity. Thank you for sharing your great heart, Thomas.
Everyone has their own struggles, myself included. I enjoy watching Ren, knowing his story and seeing how much his talent touches others.
I really appreciated your response to this. I relate to this song on so many levels. It's nice to see a person just care about others.
