have ridden the teide on roadbikes for five times (with six attempts) now and would do it again and again. Tried to power hike the last bit at the very top for 3 times and failed... three times. Weather, Injury and a broken engine from my car... Next time!
It’s lovely to witness the watts used to create this wonderful production from the leisure of one’s personal comfort zone. Grade A team, top notch challenge and story telling.
Nice vid, cool challenge! Lived there for 5 weeks whilst training for a trail marathon and also brought my race bike. Super area, great fun seeing all the familiar roads. One tip for anyone considering going there to cycle the Teide (one of the most beautifull climbs there is): follow the main car road to the ' beginning' of the climb on komoot. Otherwise komoot will plan a straight line through the villages at the start to the start of the climb and you'll encouter multiple of the very steep couple of 100m stretches. Heather is a beast she even did the entire rest of the climb after those stretches. I consoled in the fact that Kwiatkowski had the KOM at ~13 km/ph on those roads were mere mortals walk...
@@gtn No!!!! Those are impossible! I walk them, or better yet, I go down from Teide. The other side is on my bucket list. From La Esperanza to Teide. 😊
What a great challenge with Fantastic Music. I really was rooting for both of you. Totally engaged. Heather IS a TREMENDOUS COMPETITOR and Mark always the gentleman and Elite Athlete in the best sense of the word. Really enjoyed this!
Not riding the main roads on Tenerife is setting you up for crazy climbs! The flattest route would be to ride to Puerto through La Orotava following the main road to the top. Good job!
That was epic! You are both true athletes to have done that. The scenery would have really hindered my time because I would have to stop and admire. Great video.
Great video! Last went to Tenerife in my early 20's, spent most of it drunk apart from the one day we took a hire care up the volcano. Feels like we did it all wrong watching this!
One of your best ones yet. And quite funny. From Mark stating that kind of fall from 500 metres would "hurt a lot", to a shot of heather's bike leaning on the side whilst she grabs a coffee (standing though as she claimed forcefully). I laughed out loud a few times. Knocked this one our of the park guys. Lova ya!
Well em ... watch your gearing :D. That is something I often cannot comprehend. When planning a route, you can see the maximum gradient percentages. Especially on a longer tour, you should adjust the gears accordingly. But no matter - it's probably more fun for the spectators this way? Nevertheless, of course, my respect, that's quite a lot of altitude for both of them!
My favourite climbing ride in the uk is a short 38km ride what gets you 1100m climbing always kills me off but keep going back respect over this ride and run !
We’re currently on vacation on that side of the island. The gradients of some of these hills is simply unbelievable - it feels like the car is going to roll down backwards. They’re really tough to walk up, I can’t believe you attempted that on a TT bike…!
Many years ago I did climb to the top, the views are out of this world, literally, at some places it seems as you are are on another planet. The last 1000 m of elevation are tough, however. Doing this on a TT bike is mental!
The cyclist chose the harder path, she should have drove from the beach to la Orotava (is a longer section but really fast since you will be riding on flat and even on a little negative slope), not to Los Realejos. The climb from La Orotava is hard too but reasonable, you can see a climb like that as one of the hardest in a big tour, but you will never see a Los Realejo's climb like in a big tour haha. I think it terms of legs and time you should climb from la Orotova, although from Los Realejos seams to be shorter you will encounter super step killer sections. It was fun to see and a good challenge, but what i recommend to someone planning to visist the island and wanting to enjoy the climb to el Teide is starting in Puerto de La Cruz and ride the TF-21 to El Teide, that is what locals do. On the other hand the runner path was pretty wise, is a really famous path here and what most local trail runners choose to climb to El Teide.
This is great thank you for doing it! Love challenges like this. know you can't do them every video though. Do you train for the bigger challenges like this or do you just have a high enough base fitness to attempt them?
What a great challenge at such a nice location, well done 👏💥 Heather's helmet and glasses are so cool, do you mind sharing the name of the models? Many regards from cold Berlin ❄️
Which would you choose - the run or the ride? Let us know 🤔
I’d rather run for sure, those first 10k on the bike for Header looked so hard, and on a TT bike! No thanks 😂 Kudos to you guys, that was epic 🙌🏻

Would go bike, but a lightweight road bike, tri bikes so slow on that sort of climbing
Running, because if running was easy, they would call it cycling 😉
Well i should do the run but I would do the Bike! Just think about the down hill back!😂
These are the kind of videos that make me love this channel. Of course training tips and equipment videos are nice, but this adds the fun :)
Hahaha we think Heather had "fun" on this one 😂 Glad you enjoyed it!
I just love when Mark mentions Heather's unfueld iron man, showing his immense respect for her as challenger
Thank you Heather, Mark, that was fantastic. Thank you for taking us along.
It’s lovely to witness the watts used to create this wonderful production from the leisure of one’s personal comfort zone.

Great to hear you enjoyed it 🙌What should be team tackle next? 👀
Both sounded broken after first hour 😁 well done for hanging on !

Massive respect!!! As a born and raised in Tenerife I know those routes well. They are tough!!!! Great video and I hope you all be back soon.
Have you climbed the 29%er? 🤯

Fantastic, extraordinaire ..... un vrai regal .......merci a vous pour ce moment partagé
29% gradient. Don’t know I would have even been able to walk up that. Well done guys and what a great video!
We'll bring our climbing gear next time 😂

Thanks! it was a tough day out, would you like to give it a go? 👀
@@gtn My 63 yo body is not up to that kind of challenge but thanks for the offer!
Amazing, next time Heather really needs to have a team car so she can change to a climbing bike for the steep sections.
Oh I love this idea, but think I needed the help of the actual car to get me up those climbs!
Hahaha, are we being a bit too mean on our team? 👀
Mmmm we'll think about it... might have to refer to our drafting rules 🤔

Hahaha yes there a re a few sides to the island 👀 Maybe there is a happy middle ground?
Heather you are a winner! That was amazing. both of you did amazingly well but using a trial bike to do this route is astonishing!
It was fun watching both of you struggling to reach at the top 😅. Glad that the runner won !🎉
Hahaha glad someone found it fun! 😂

I liked when Heather said that mark might be bitxhing her about challenge while Mark on the other hand is discussing how stealthy Heather actually is

We are collectively benefiting from Heather’s Pentathlon experience.
Absolutely brilliant stuff. Trail looked epic. Well done both.

Those are my home roads!! fantastic video guys!
Brilliant video as always guys..........Best bit Mark's micro tantrum 😆

Loved the challenge and how they survived
Thanks Heather and Mark, what an epic video!
Thanks so much!
Wow! That was amazing 😮. Well done to you both. Thanks for the inspiration.

Ah man you guys are tough. What an epic !!!! Challenge
really miss tenerife and mt.teide, lived a week in the south beach los americas, what a place to ride a bike! 30km plus constant uphills
I don't know why I laughed so much at 0:27 this just seems like such an unnecessary competition. Either way hi Heather!! 😂
Brilliant effort both of you and fabulous scenery. Well done🥰🏃🚴♀
It's an amazing place to visit! Lot's of great training to be had! Do you ever fork out for a bit of winter sun to get those training miles in? 👀
Amazing video guys. Love it. I want to go to Tenerife now :).
I want Heather's bike 😍😍
Hills like that on a TT bike?! Impressive!
Looks like you went up the easy side😂. I did the other side this summer. Sat and had a little cry 4 hrs in…
These videos are just awesome. More like this please😊
Sure. What should we challenge the guys to next? 🤔
Hahahaha Mark is too nice to buy his angry acting. Even if he was angry you wouldn't be able to tell :)
Am also going to have to track down the horse video now. Hadn't seen that.
One of the greatest challenges!!
Wow thanks!
Top quality content, loved every second of it.
Not sure we did 🥵
Brilliant video. Great effort both
Glad you enjoyed it
Heather, next time call Ollie over at GCN for a climbing bike. You two are insane and awesome at the same time.
Great challenge...can you compare your Komoot stats for elevation?
Very late to the comments but that was absolutely amazing.
Chapeau 🧢
Christos Greece,bravo excellent video.
Amazing, good job done guys
Sheesh so the runner walked, and the cyclist pushed the bike.
You broke Heather 😅
should have used the ultimate rather than that TT machine...! 😂
Heather drinking a "cortadito" hahahhahahaha
I am 100% with Heather for the win. 🥇
You guys should do the the other way around now... Mark on the bike and Heather on foot!
Great idea.. or they swap at the top and race back down 👀
@@gtn ooh... are you guys hinting at a part 2 video coming out next week?! 😲
a fan theory... called it first!
What a great challenge at such a nice location, well done 👏💥

Many regards from cold Berlin ❄️
Superb
"Top Gear does GTN"!
Heather looks over geared for the climb well done both your mad
Amazing vid!! 👌👏👏
i would take running over cycling every day of the year... so much more enjoying the view and nature.
Heather knew to ride a horse is a feet in its self
Rule number 1 for Tenerife, NEVER TURN OFF THE MAIN ROAD
Bless Heather for agreeing to do this on a TT bike...
hmmm agreeing is a loose term haha
@@heatherfell_oly wasn't the race your proposal? Think I heard Marc saying that in the beginning ;-)
@@kartobi Ha in theory yes
What make are the glasses that you were both wearing?
Epic ❤
Using a TT bike to climb? Ouch. I'd rather run up in boots.
Boooo
Wanted Heather to win, Heather your awesome
Why use a TT bike? Why use a TT bike with tall gearing?
Doubling playback speed made watching less stressful and participants looking more playful.
…29%?! 🤮
