This flute costs more than my house
its a expensive flute, but my god when you play it you totally can understand why. :) thanks for watching hans! means the world!
[[(Big brand + fine craft + material = quality + luxury = expensive = worth) ÷ money in pocket ] ≦ 0.03 ] = 😁
I will never know what it feels like to play a gold flute.
That depend on your skill : for the student, any piece of gold, even the entire flute, is just a loss of money. But for a professional I think it is great.
There is a lot of parameters in a flute that are most important than the material, but if you find an excellent flute and if you master your mouthpiece, gold bring a nice darker sound.
James Galway has a flute which is gold and diamond encrusted (apparently)! Beautiful flutes! Maybe I should go back to practising lol!
Wow really ill have to ask him the next time i see him! Thanks for watching!
He has lots of them. 5 of them were stolen at a Swiss train station back in the late 80's.
My flute is more beer and chips than Champagne and Hors d'oeuvre's.
:)
all of it is so beautiful, and I'm so broke to buy another flute😣😣😣. the low register of this gold powell OMG. 😍😍😍😍
I know! :)
Okay so I’ve known since I was 5 that I wanted to be a professional flutist and I play flute now and I have for about 6 years and I’m calling it now my professional flute WILL be a Haynes, Powell or a Muramatsu. WATCH ME! I have my student flute and my intermediate flute and I don’t know how I’m gonna but it but it’s gonna happen.
Love it! Happy practicing!
I'm a retired gigging keyboard player (plus flautist as a hobby) living in Yorkshire England. One day, I was booked to play in Manchester with a band for a night of music for dancing. The line up was a five piece with front line of sax doubling flute.
So I introduce myself, and the sax player is called George, who is assembling his instruments. I could help noticing that the flute he was assembling wasn't the norm silver/chrome coloured variety. I asked George was that what I thought it was.....a gold flute? Sure he replied in a very strong Irish accent. (Hmmmm I thought, there's something very special about this event.....) I mentioned that I played, and George offered me a play. Well, I tried, I puffed this way and that way, and barely made a noise. The lip plate was custom made. George asked what did I think? I replied that I could tell that it was superb, but I was struggling. Ahh says George, that's because it was made for my brother. Who's your brother, I asked. Oh, he's called James. James who? Galway!! *&*&%^&^%$%^£$"£ JAMES GALWAY???? Yes!! So you're George Galway! I sure am. James gave me the flute as he had too many. The gig was amazing. George was a supreme jazzer. He made his flute sing the jazz exactly how I loved it to be played.
So for approximately two minutes, I actually played one of James Galway's Golden Flutes, created especially for him in Switzerland, and I failed. But I was there. I was that man.
A person in my school's sixth grade band has a blue flute
😂😂😂 x2
Silvean 😂😂😂😂X3
Oh it’s probably one of those bad ones from China. I’m pretty sure they try to make up for the quality (or lack thereof) by making it colored and “interesting” 😂 trust me, I know my people.
@Silvean Same but she's in a 7th grader
Silvean someone in mine has a pink one and my friend has one that’s purple and gold. There is also someone with a saxophone that’s blue and someone with a blue trumpet
I love the mellowness and the warmth of gold flutes. It’s to die for. ❤️
Totally! :)
The most beautiful flute sounds I personally have ever heard came from Powell flutes. Simply amazing.
Glad you like it!
the gold flutes' tone is amazing! Its soft... but still makes a statement. I am definitely considering buying one of these despite the price. :)
This just puts things in perspective about how some local music stores in my country are quite apprehensive about letting you try the _expensive_ bass guitars, pianos or effects pedals. If only they knew that a thousand miles from us there’s an 18K Gold Flute available to try out, with which you could buy the music shop, the instruments and perhaps even the clerk. Oh Gee, I better go drink some water to rinse my saltiness 😆
Interesting Gold. I never thought Gold would make it on a Flute.
I bet this was a blast to make. I play the flute in my middle school, and this video was amazing!! Thank you so much, again it was so amazing!! 😍
It really was! We were so lucky to have Powell invite us to do this and make something for all of you! Thanks so much for watching!
Your channel is real great!! Thanks for posting such entertaining videos!!
What a fun event! I've only ever tried gold flutes at flute festivals. They are wonderful but then I remind myself that I just play in community bands so a gold flute might be a bit much for that setting and I have two kids to eventually put through college. So maybe just a gold headjoint some day in the very distant future.
Totally but it is really fun just to try. Gold headjoints are a great alternative too. They have loads. We have to do a video about headjoints soon. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment Erin!
Agreed, trying out various flutes is fun even if you have no intention of buying. A headjoint video would be awesome! I'll probably watch this video another time or two, I think you guys did an excellent job of condensing down a 2 day event into an 11 minute video.
I had one with a gold lip plate and crown. Loved it.
Try a gold/rose gold plated Lefreque (or 2). I have 2 of the 33mm solid silver rose gold plated Lefreques on my Azumi and I feel they really do make a difference. The flute is heavier with them but the gold adds a nice warmth and texture vs without them.
Dear Santa......
us too!
These are a couple of beautiful flutes. Hope I get a chance to play them someday.
That would be amazing I’m always polishing my flute at school even having a gold cover would look nice
This is the first time I heard you playing in this channel. It is very good. You should play us something on youtube now and then :)
aww thanks, you should watch our video calles 3 hours of flute. I play in that! Thanks for watching! We also saw your question on another video were planning on answer it soon!
Oh how beautiful. The sound is superb...I want one! Better start playing the lotto 😂
Well saying since i found my flute in a trash can i say i need a upgrade haha.
I once attended a clinic at FSU during Tri State and the instructor had a rose gold flute. 😭😍
I am russian . I play on a flute too ..Glory to all fluet players !!
Powell did a showing at our college and brought this flute and WOW, it is absolutely fabulous
super awesome, ya its a pretty nice flute!
HOLY COW
No giveaway? :D

So cool!
so glad you think so! Thanks for taking the time to watch!
Amazing!!!!!!! ✨😍✨🤩✨
super happy you liked it!
I love your channel. :3
All my life I have used a brand flute called "Blessing". These flutes are very cheap and fit my budget, by God's work and grace, I learned to play flute on my own, because I never had money to go to a course.
Keep practicing and have fun!
Yes.
Someday I will buy a Muramatsu flute. :3
Juan Carlos de Palafox Zumaya Like u I was Blessed, but somehow I lost il.😰😰😰😰😰
Wow, beautiful flute! The second one you tried sounded like it was made specifically for you :) It's one of those things one doesn't want to even try for fear of falling in love. They are just too expensive for the middle of nowhere, South Dakota. :) I would be paying it off for the rest of my life, and then the kids will have to take over :)
Exactly how I felt but it was great to try nonetheless. Thanks so much for watching! I gotta get myself out to south dakota!
Yep, I know what you mean. One of the ladies in our Symphony has a gold Brannen with a platinum custom head (can't remember the maker, but it suits her really well). I admit to coveting it every rehearsal. :) Boy, those gold flutes are HEAVY, though! I play a silver Muramatsu, and I swear mine is half the weight of hers. SD is beautiful this time of year, it finally stopped snowing :) Have you ever been? Mt. Rushmore is about 30 min. from where I live, and I've been there twice...maybe. No, make it three times, they used to have fireworks there for the 4th of July. Although I think City Band is going to play a 4th of July there this year.
Thats so awesome! No we havent been, but we want to tour from ND downward to Texas in the future!
Gorgeous instrument. I'm kind of a "hobbyist" when it comes to playing flute now. I played flute from the 4th grade through my senior year of high school. Now I just play it when I'm in the mood. I started off on a Haynes student flute that I rented from my high school which they later let me purchase for $100. I tried to get it fixed a back then, but it was never the same after that. When I moved out into the working world, I managed to buy myself an Armstrong (my first and only open-hole). It's beautiful to look at, but I'm afraid to play it. LOL! And now you show me this 18K beast of a flute. WOW! Beautiful craftsmanship. :)
Wow, I happy you got the chance to watch the video and share your story. I love a good open hole armstrong! You really do have to try something like this 18k gold flute. Its a pleasure to look at and play it. Give it a shot if you ever get a chance! thanks for watching and looking forward to seeing you again in the comments!
I've played the scherzino!!
I’ve heard a gold flute twice just last year!
It’s exciting to hear about their 18K gold model, but was really disappointed that it wasn’t in yellow. Their 10K is in yellow and is it oh so beautiful, but I really wish more US makers start making their higher carat gold flutes in yellow gold instead of rose.
I play on a Powell myself (a Powell Signature to be exact with a C# trill key) and they are generally very heavy flutes. I tried a Muramatsu GX that a friend of mine has and I was surprised how light it was compared to my Powell that is a standard wall .016” flute. One day I’ll try this one out! I don’t think I’ll go for an all gold flute though.
they are heavy and even some muramatsu's are as well. All depends I suppose. If you ever get the chance to try one of these beauties, please do!
Someday
Hey I love your channel! I’ve watched a few videos already and I just wanted to ask if you could do a basic BASIC video for someone switching from a much different embouchure to play flute and how to get the right airflow and embouchure to play notes. I have been playing Alto Sax as lead alto in my jazz band but am now trying to learn flute as well, which is incredibly hard for some reason for me... thanks so much!
omg! For sure what a great idea! Be subscribed and stay tuned for a video like that in the near future!
Hey hey...easier ...this video is so classy i even doubt if i am in class to watch it :D
you're allowed! thanks for watching!
My favorite flute is my Sankyo Prima 14k gold open hole flute......its my baby....but after seeing this beautiful flute.....im thinking of switching....i never tried a powell
I had an Artley gold flute. The lower register is so nice.
I'm sure its amazing! Tag us on instagram with you playing it, would love to hear it!
The Flute Channel I have not played in years. Wish I could have taken lessons with you. The sound is fantastic.
OMG GOLD flutes?
I know right! so amazing!
I was just there
cool place right?!
what is this intro music name? such a beautiful song!!
I don't have the money to buy one, but if I had one of those, I would use gloves to play it, or just to touch it
If I ever won the lottery I'd definitely go flute shopping. I really only need one, but whats great about gold and platinum is that they don't tarnish as quickly as silver. Platinum being the least likely to tarnish and if it does I wouldn't be around to see it when or if it happens, I think platinum is more likely to get scratches, but not at the same extent as silver or gold due to Mohs hardness scale rating. 18 k still has impurities so it would change color probably after I'm dead. I've heard of gold coins doing this due to copper content. Not sure if that's the case with these flutes. I didn't look into the content. The most I'm willing to spend on a new flute after I master my beginner flute is $2800 USD. So ya, unless you won some kind of lotto these flutes are a dream for most people. I think though the best way to appreciate a gold or platinum flute would to already own and practice on other less expensive professional flutes. I love watching vids like this though.
The players all sound the bloody same. No individuality.
Just close your eyes and listen through the clip and see if you hear any difference between them.
This solid gold flute bit, I feel is something of a Con.
Powell are making a bomb of money.
Anyone know who the flutist is in the picture at 2:31 (rightmost picture)?
Alice K Dade!
4:56 Does anyone know what song that is bc I wanna learn it
it’s Sonate by Hindemith
I played that!
I wanted go play Sax in 6th grade I'm had to choose flute because they had no to many sax players 2 years later in 8th grade im 1st chair in top band.
Here in Finland we have a guy playing solid gold flute made of 24K. The instrument is made in Japan. How many grams/ounces the flute weight, just to know the amount of material to be used to make an instrument of such.
Brasil!..
I saw the price online for 36,000 dollars and wow that’s a bargain because another brand was 84k
I have tried a good flute, I think you use more air and it's heavier
No, it was made for a professional use : it suppose you have a strong mouthpiece and digital skill.
It is heavier because of the material, but it is an inconvenient.
you can easily tell this was before covid if people can test out the flute heads
Totally!
Is the flute store avalible
I play the flute
Let’s see a diamond one 😈
I think one exists!
@@absidyabsidy2727 shhhhhhh it’s ok
His eyes light up and sparkle while playing this flute....... think he may need a new flute Amelie. Lol
We're working on it!
It looks beautiful and the sound is pretty nice, but unless that metal is extremely thin there is no way it is solid 18k gold, its just being handled way too lightly too be truly solid 18k gold, the weight is just not there.
it's still beautiful
The best flutes actually are made with 22K solid gold. It is both extremely heavy and fragile. But the sound is amazing. I choose to have only the headjoint in 22K because of the weight.
Edit : they are not from Powell though. My headjoint was made especially for me by Salvatore Faulisi.
This was obviously before stupid COVID
Yay first
You rock! I really hope you enjoyed the video, it was a blast to make!
The Flute Channel it was!
Very pretty, and high quality too. This would be a waste of $$ for a tone deaf hack like me however.
LOL
3:23 IS THAT CAROL WINCENC?!
Crikey as...!
How many tens of thousands of dollars are these Flutes worth? 💕🤪😃🎶
A lot, but there are many flutes that are reasonably priced too!
@@flutechannel
I currently have a Jupiter student flute.
I recently tried an Azumi AZ-3 Flute.
It was so nice, and a lil cheaper than an 18k gold Flute. 😆👍💕💕
Probably about $38,000
I’m an alto saxophonist why am I here
Ever done a carbon fiber flute like or unlike the Finns?
no but it does exists!
I've tried a carbon fiber flute when I was young but I didn't enjoy it : nor round like a wooden flute, nor bright like a silver flute, nor warm like a gold flute, just cold...
its for heavy metal music
Expensive flute jeez plays nice though
it is beautiful to look at and it sounds good, but if it is heavy then it is meaningless for me even if it is given for free. except to sell away. :)
i get very easily tired when i play flute because i have rather short arms and weak arm muscles so...😔
the best thing i liked when i changed from nickel to silver flute was that it was lighter. i could play longer without sore arms.😀🎶
also it is more difficult to stably balance the flute if it is heavier. especially when i play with all the holes open except left thumb down closing, trills, etc.
plastic flute just lacks the vibration in the sound. the very original instrument was made of wood until 18th century, so i expect someday in the future something better than metal would come up, like cheap industrial diamond✨💎✨ or something like that, solid and very light and resonating amazingly at the same time...🌈
i mean 30 years ago no one imagined using smart phones would be so ordinary...
so "diamond" flutes might be in near future. carbonfibers. glassfibers. some element very new. might be even gas.😝
You only have to work on two things: getting stronger muscles, and getting rich xD
A gold flute sounds great for some, but it's not for me.
I like the warmth of a gold flute but also just love the crispness behind a silver flute so my Gemeinhardt is silver with a gold lip plate. I love it. I've heard people say that gold flutes love second flute parts because of the deep warmth. I really like first flute parts. I just feel at ease with first flute parts. So I don't know if a fully golden flute would be a solid fit for me anyways.
Who buys this so expensive flutes !?!
A lot actually! A musical instrument for a professional is really important for making music. The quality of material and craftmanship goes a long way and something like this is actually not that expensive when you look at old violins which cost millions of dollars. Your getting this flute a steal! ;) thanks for watching!
The Flute Channel that's true... but I think music in general is very expensive ! I have a flute and I just bought a piccolo (in this sort of "plastic") and I play in a music school in France and I find it very expensive... for 1 year I pay just a little bit less than the price of the flute or the piccolo... it's sad, cause not everybody can learn to play an instrument...
For us hobby players this flute is too expensive. I am quite happy with my gemeinhardt intermediate flute. Professionals can justify these prices.
For sure Noellana but its interesting to see what is happening with flutemaking nowadays so many companies are doing cool things with different techniques and materials. What a time to be alive! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
noellana yeah, that's true
It’s not a closed hole flute.😭
??
You sounded the same.
i hate playing flute i don't know why i chose it i wanted to play trombone but peer pressure dug into my soul
well it totally doesnt hurt to learn trombone too! You can get one cheap or used and learn it on your spare time. Its also a fabulous instrument! Its great to learn multiple instruments! Thanks for watching isabella!
the flute is an acquired taste, but i encourage you to learn whatever you want to learn. Considering my preference... I cant even comprehend hating playing the flute, but at the start it is sometimes frustrating, but I would never stop. It is so diverse yet simple... and I couldn't ever say anything bad about it. Its beauty is unmatched. Its addicting!
It's not too late to switch or learn it for fun. Life is too short to do something that you don't enjoy. If you haven't done so already check out Christopher Bill's youtube channel. He does great covers on trombone.
When I started playing in band in the 6th grade the director wanted me to play flute. He said because my mother was a music teacher and flute is a hard instrument I would get extra help learning it. He was correct about that but now that I am a bit older (about 60 years older!) and more realistic, I wonder if he really needed someone to play flute in the beginner band! I was the only flutist for a year! There were 42 flutists at the first state wide band clinic I went to. I was the only boy!
Flute sound depends on the player not the instrument
SEUNGWOO SHIN yes and no
The instrument definitely makes a major difference.
You're right, but when the player is excellent, the instrument makes the difference.
Powell are over priced and technically has not changed in years
