I live in a resort city and there are lots of jet ski rentals around. I can't imagine the liability insurance. Let's see, how about we rent hundreds of watercraft daily that go 50mph, where there's a decent probability the renter will consume alcohol, and let them take the craft into busy waterways. Oh, and 75% of them can't swim. Solid plan!
How many times does this police dept need to hear they need two people one the boat! What if the people are unconscious, drowning, or psychically unable to pull themselves in? Driving close to the person in distress is not helping!
@@wheelstandr couldn’t agree more. Police are never there when they are needed. All they really are good for is cleaning up the mess when it’s over. And do the necessary paperwork.
one common thing i have noticed with every jet skier that ends up in the water at haulover is that NONE of them ever have their life vests cinched up properly. shoulders are always up over their heads, only held on by their armpits and sometimes they have one belly strap fastened. they really are just clueless. pretty much universally on any body of water.
In Los Angeles and surrounding counties…all marine patrol vessels are custom built 32 foot boats with an open transom to pick up swimmers/others in trouble…crewed by trained lifeguards.
He almost doubled that set. If he hadn’t cased it, would have been sickest! Everyone saying should be more than one person on police boat, thinking it’s out for rescue purpose. More like a mobile set of eyes with a radio to enforce the law.
@@56thSPSk970 The Bal Harbour Police budget has gone up every year in the last 5 years. The 2024 budget is approximately 25% more than the 2020 budget was.
It's obvious the police boat is ill-equipped to get someone from the water into the boat. The yellow fire rescue boat with stairs up the stern is a much more appropriate design for sea rescues. Sometimes I think that multi-outboard police boats are just designed to race around in and make a big show.
It needs a tuna door. The drawback is that becomes a weak point in the boat for rough water, I've seen the latches break and the door won't stay closed which can create a sinking hazard. But it sure is useful for hauling heavy things into the boat.
I'm in the middle of rebuilding a 28' Nautica inflatable Catamaran, the best feature is the 4' draw bridge in the bow, makes it super easy to load and unload passengers.
You can not just attach a line to a jet ski and pull it at planing speed. You risk damage to your jet ski’s engine and even swamping it. The rescue guys in this video know that this ski is toast and a rental so they are just getting out of the channel so its not a navigation hazard.
No side door, no rear extended platform on that police boat, with one officer is a disaster wiaiting to happen. Must have been a confiscated drug boat.
Police and sheriff often have a vessel with a single officer. If you're a boater with low intelligence, that maybe not helpful. If you are responsible there's plenty of value in the system. We have four sheriff vessels in Dana Point. Two fireboats and two singlehanded patrol boats.
crazy accident. very surprised more crashes haven't been filmed. I would think there would be tons more. given the number of people on some boats I can't imagine many boats have enough life jackets either.
I used to work at a Kawasaki/SeaDoo shop in North Carolina and we got skis in all the time that were involved in accidents like this. They went out of their way to jump wakes of boats and close to shore. They would hit sand bars and bust out the bottom of the hull. So many stupid thrill seekers.😡
Ten feet tall n bullet proof. Idiots on the water with no respect. I've been to Haulover hundreds of times, if it looks bad it is 10 times worse. You need to know not today.
I have wondered if the lower front freeboard on the newer Sea Doos could present a stuffing issue, and this shows it clearly. The Yammys and the Kawis have a much higher front bumper and hull mating line than the Sea Doos. That being said, the front of my waverunner can ride low if you aren't paying attention, and I've had a couple times where I thought I might have to bail.
Big difference between an accident and Darwinism in full view.
Need two people on the patrol boat!
One to man the controls ALL THE TIME and the other to handle the person in the water!
Con ese viejo nadie quiere trabajar
Taxes go up
He is police, but this one ain't a rescue boat. I guess doing what he can with what he got.
@@marty906 I know but State Park rangers also run their patrol boats single handed and even on inland lakes they could use another person.
We have enough cops.
He found out water does not compress.

He is lucky he was not run over by a speeding MTI
The spine injuries were after the accident, the brain injury was apparently before.
😂😂😂😂
Perfect diagnosis.
A daredevil with a life jacket, just in case.
😂😂😂😂
Police having ONE guy on board in waves like that⁉️ That insane! Bad boating for sure.
Result of defunding the police?
Operating a police boat with only one officer is ridiculous.
Should he have done nothing because he was alone?
it’s a jetski not a police boat jeez
Its better than none!
@blindperson - big boat, "police" written on side, flashing blue lights. FFS
That’s the first thing I thought when he arrived. In those conditions you need someone at helm at all times.
How many times does this police dept need to hear they need two people one the boat! What if the people are unconscious, drowning, or psychically unable to pull themselves in? Driving close to the person in distress is not helping!
I imaging then they call the Coast Guard.
@@fw1421 By that time they could be dead. When seconds count they’re minutes away.

A belly flop at 60 mph. With spinal injuries. I can assure you he will regret that for the rest of his life.
It was a face-plant. Happens often to those learning to barefoot waterski. It's whiplash on the neck.
No he won’t he’ll just think he cheated a bad injury and do it again
Learning about hydraulics the hard way.
Coast guard when it counts any day all day. We need more coast guard on the water and less police
Yeah, but the cushy do nothing jobs would be at risk then

There's a certain type that use them....mindless!
They would need a boat racing jacket that has crotch straps so the jacket is held down.
He was moving pretty good for having possible spine injuries..hopefully he doesn't have any .
He definitely sent it.
Jet ski. I got this. Remember that on summer on Lake Tahoe? I’ll show you.
A police rescue boat with only the pilot is beyond the stupidest and most useless thing I've seen that I can recall.
that was a hard hit, easy to be injured in water that rough
Speed kills, especially a person who has no clue. Enjoy those bills!
It’s not the speed that kills, it’s the sudden stop.
We the ones that work will pay
Just claim you are illegal and all bills waived....

Why Florida’s police boats only put one man on a boat. He can’t do anything. Need 2 or 3 officers on a boat.
He was going full throttle. You can hear the rev limiter
All went wrong when the back end of the ski clipped the next wave and sent him down. Ouch
Play stupid games win stupid prizes
Like they say Fk Around and Find Out.
I hope he is okay though…
Fish food
Or live safely in the corner have no fun and zero prizes.
Here's an idea, Sea-doo guy. Try going faster next time.
Where is Baywatch , they need Haselhoff and not one single police officer.
Police "fast boat" useless as a rescue boat.
Especially with one person aboard.
Outboards are killers ! A jet drive and swim step are much safer and useful.
I speak from a lifetime of marine rescue work.
Police useless. ‘Nough said 😂
In Los Angeles and surrounding counties…all marine patrol vessels are custom built 32 foot boats with an open transom to pick up swimmers/others in trouble…crewed by trained lifeguards.
Lifejacket doesn't fit, no helmet, doing 50+ mph... genius.
needs to be heavy fines for playing around in a inlet its not the place to jump waves
running dangerous waves is WHY many people do Haulover.
That's all anyone does there.

I bet his wife warned him not to rent the jet ski. She is going to mad.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT
You are spot on. The officer could have easily gone over the side attempting to get the ski driver into his boat.
It needs a tuna door. The drawback is that becomes a weak point in the boat for rough water, I've seen the latches break and the door won't stay closed which can create a sinking hazard. But it sure is useful for hauling heavy things into the boat.

Boat designed to chase down drug boats, not rescue morons on jet skis 😂
badass fire rescue boat
Hiring freeze in Miami may affect number of officers available. Miami had to cut $25M to cover budget SNAFU.
Geez! That was some rough water! What was he thinking???
The other jet skies are under control. That guy was out of control, maybe throttle stuck. He went from 60 to zero real quick. Wohoo look at me!!
Those waves are relentless.

Last boat speeding by the police is priceless. No speed wake zone?
At the bridge.
It seems that moving him in the water to a calmer location would be prudent with a spine injury.
I have never seen someone eat it so hard on a jetski before 😮😬
The logic of one policeman on the boat. Might as well have one paramedic on a rescue rig.
budget cuts
We could double our responders, oh we still gotta buy fuel? Fuck it now its budget cuts
Did they DEFUND the police?
How’d they get the jet ski flipped over to tow it?
Dude tried to be a hotdog and took a face plant. 😂😂🤣🤣🤣😭
That freaking police boat could kill that guy bouncing in the waves. They should be using. Jetski w a raft board on back

omg bro that’s one of my step family members (distant). he’s still in the hospital 😭😭😭 so stupid for going fast wtf 🤦♀️🤦♀️
That's called a "trip" in boat racing. Leads to a "stuff".
It quite clear you need to keep your speed up when going inbound.
They should have 2 officers in that police boat at all times
I GREE
Yeah sure easy to agree now until you’re paying through the nose in taxes to support that. The coast guard is for rescue, police for law enforcement.
surprised they didn't go after that last boat flying by them....

Some fast boats are magnificent rescue boats, that however was not one of them.
Cop by himself in those waters. Useless.
People of the water, that don't know how to deal with water, or roadways 😮
Yes, he had spine injuries. He is a friend of my dad. He got surgeries and is recovering.
I HOPE HE'S IS DOING WELL AND THAT HE RECOVERS SOON
You could actually hear him slam into the water.
Police need a boarding ladder
Is the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue like a EMS on the water?
Amérique grandeur et décadence... un policier dans un bateau à 1 million de dollars mais pas une échelle pour permettre à un MOB de remonter à bord

That was a serious faceplant 😂
If he had been going just a tiny bit faster, he would have made that double jump.😁
Jet skies at haulover the very definition of the dry end of the gene pool.
...dry end of the gene pool 🤣🤣🤣 so stealing this...
Hence why you do f around in the inlet ! I'm glad he's not fish food.
Miami should lower the speed limit on this inlet
He held on to the handlebars till the end of the hit

you could call it an accident, but it was entirely preventable. it was not something he had no control over.
There's a corruption story behind that Bal Harbor police boat
That cop was completely clueless
That's no cop.thstd the owner of the jet ski concession.😏😂😎
Other ski should have just ignored the cop and take him in
Hope everyone recovers well
going too fast to hit the waves with the middle of the sea doo.. it clipped the wave with the tail and 'endo-d' him.
Darwin has taken over haulover. Not a problem.
wtf was the cops plan ?
THEY DID EVERYTHING WRONG
There needs to be two people minimum on those police boats. They can’t do shit by themselves.
major saltwater facial

Gonna feel that in the morning!
Every morning for the rest of his life.
