    Another freaking top quality mix, as the taking advantage of being able to use sources beyond the Genesis palette is always fun seeing what gets put into these mixes, as it also breathes so much opportunity, and this one hits me so good like the last one. I like that the Bossa vibe still is going strong, and that the shift from Golf to more Driving titles fits fairly well (and Night "Drive" works both ways as a pun, haha). It's just absolutely fun and gives me lots of good feels, and love to Knuckles Chaotix is always refreshing, such an underrated soundtrack that isn't helped by the fact it hasn't seen a major console re-release anytime after its time on the 32X. Also damn that Car Select on Outrunners is so groovy and awesome, it's also crazy seeing a game like that get not so stellar reviews at the time, because its still a cool game, but things in retrospect I feel is easier and more forgiving to look back on, and of course the soundtrack keeps it as something to check out.
    And of course just a top notch chefs kiss to the ending, Last Wave into the Good Ending sends my heart into full on feel good mood, the latter also has to be one of the best ending tracks of all time, a true encompassing feeling of accomplishment and seeing all the hard work and victory pay off. Which I hope you feel the same way about your mixes here anosci, you really just keep hitting these out of the park, great job as always! :)

    The Fhey Area music is so Jazzy, Fusion-Like... And at the same time It fits perfectly in the fantasy setting of the Game. So Sad this game never made Into the west. Wolfteam was indeed a great team. And about the Chaotix soundtrack... Flawless.

    Yoko Kanno did videogame music too? Wasn't expecting that. I guess she had to start somewhere, I guess. Or was she perhaps already an established composer by this time?
    This was a nice mix again, btw. I've been missing this kind of content from your uploads. This kind of jazzy stuff.

      This was 1994, the same year that she started writing for anime (with Please Save My Earth). She also scored various games as early as 1988 (Romance of the Three Kingdoms), but I'm not too familiar with it really!
      She's absolutely made a name for herself since then, though!

      I remember she also did the soundtrack for Ragnarök Online 2, which came as quite a surprise to me as well back then.

      She was working on several Koei games for a few years. Her arrangements were great in those titles, though the CD's are rare and hard to come by today outside Japan.

    I remember playing Outrunners for the Genesis just so that I could listen to its version of Splash Wave which was amazing to me as a child.

    Arcade version of OutRunners looks fantastic. Too bad Genesis port was not so good because of small sprites and frustrating split-screen. Well, at least it has port on Genesis, not like Power Drift (which had so ground-breaking graphics for that time it was impossible to make something similiar on computers and consoles).

    After Sonic the Hedgehog there's no excuse for games using the weak synth drums of the YM2612...

    • @GSTChannelVEVO
      @GSTChannelVEVO  5 лет назад +3

      There are actually two pretty good reasons to not use sampled drums:
      1. space! even the smallest samples take up far more space than an FM patch, and cartridge space is expensive. (plus the graphics department is fighting for that space)
      2. only one sample can play at any given time! well, this can be worked around with some software mixing, but on a hardware level there's only 1 channel available for sample playback. some games prefer using sampled sound effects, and reserve that channel for these sound effects. this is easy to work around if you don't mind sound effects overriding the drums in your song, though.

    First track is pitched up considerably....

    • @GSTChannelVEVO
      @GSTChannelVEVO  6 лет назад

      Yeah, I do that sometimes to keep things in key. In this instance, I probably could have gotten away without changing the pitch, but I thought the mix flowed better like this!

    • @pcguy619
      @pcguy619 6 лет назад

      Can't blame you! It still sounds good. Thanks for all you do GST! BTW, would you mind if I made this mix longer and added some songs? I think an hour of this kind of music would be totally cool.
