  • After 4 years of Flower Farming we finally have the timing right.
In this Flower Farm Tour I basically show off the autumn blooming flowers. Growing these flowers saved us $800 off our Mother's Day floral bill and it gives us so much hope for the future - where we can further reduce our flower bill.

Awesome ending. I don't net anything but I do plant as close as I can so that flowers will support each other and shade the soil from weeds.

Bunnings have hose guide spikes. They are great for keeping the hose off your plants. Just an idea that might work. You are doing a great job with the farm. Love seeing the progress. 😊

So good to be able to harvest over winter months!! Well done on your clever planning and experimentation. And thanks for sharing when you work out a smart way to approach something.
I'm looking forward to seeing more different types of Chrysanthemums from you. The common ones I see everywhere around mother's day are a bit old hat to me, I like seeing the variety you have started up there.
Hope you all are enjoying being home after an epic trip.

I could comment on every single one of your videos, as there is always something I either learn or get the confirmation I need that I am on the right track. Bravo to you learning your timing of sowing seeds and transplanting. It's not something you can teach as I think it all depends on the weather on where you live. I direct sowed some Bells of Ireland directly as I thought the seed packet was getting old as I haven't had any success with them over the past two years. But apparently my autumn/winter is what they like and have started really well. I share your love to hate netting and noticed how much I need to put it back in too! Can't wait to see your next video, Mexico....really? How exciting, hope you enjoy your holiday. x P.S. I'm also looking forward to watching you on your Chrysanthemum journey, so any helpful tips on how to grow them would be very much appreciated I just bought a few cuttings yesterday.

Phaedra enjoy your holiday it has been well earned. Im finally in maintenance mode now with the seed I planted coming through which in the next few weeks I will thin out and enjoying watching our chrysanthemums really starting to fill out. It’s nice to get to winter and stop and rest my body a little bit :)

Hi Phaedra, The hardware store sales a piece for your hose with a roller on it. Works good

I really look forward to your Saturday morning videos!
I dig my dahlia clumps and throw straight into a paper shopping bag and then store. Maximum laziness. Washing and dividing will happen in spring when the eyes swell and are much easier to see - although I am not trying to maximise my tuber numbers so I'm not averse to some very unceremonious spade division - I call this chop and chuck 😆
My cosmos is still standing as we haven't had frost yet - I'm leaving it for as long as possible because the rosellas are eating the flowers, buds, and seed heads, and anytime they're eating cosmos they are not destroying my perennials 😮‍💨
I also had cosmos volunteers pop up in my tomato bed and I left them there because why not - and it turned out to be the best thing and something I will now do deliberately every year. The ferny foliage hid the tomatoes from birds and I lost almost zero compared to the previous year's absolute tomato carnage when I grew the tomatoes by themselves. It also gave them a little bit of shade so the fruit didn't get scorched. I will net things if I really have to but it's a pain... having a companion plant do the netting for me (and bring in more pollinators!) was such a win. So cosmos is definitely the play next tomato season.
Hardly planted any zinnias last year and when the few Benary's I planted were in full swing, I really regretted not getting more in. I have one of the deep red I think it is, and today, the first day of winter, it still has about 30 blooms on it. It looks like a shrub, and it's covered in huge, stunning flowers. This year I'll be planting every zinnia.
TIL stock is a brassica?! I had no idea. Haven't grown it before, but now I might have to because I'm obsessed with the mustard family.

Hi Phaedra. So did wrapping the snapdragons work? I plant mine 3 inches apart (2 per 6 inch sq) so they grow tall and stay straight. I do net just in case. Did you see Laura from Garden Answer chrysanthemum order. Very cool varieties. I remember when you took cuttings.
