    Congrats on 4K, and congrats to the winner of your last drawing! Beautiful yarn! Love all those project bags. As a retired teacher after 25 years of teaching public school, I'm especially drawn to the pencil! I'm currently working on an intarsia project, The Cowboy Jacket, for my granddaughter's first birthday in January. It is a nightmare! I'm juggling 6 colors of yarn at the same time and can't wait to finish. In my notions bag I have scissors, crochet hook, stitch markers, and tapestry needle - although I always forget one or all of those things and have to borrow from knitting friends! Thanks for another great podcast and good luck in the coming school year!

      I just googled The Cowboy Jacket and there were a couple patterns. Is it the Mary Maxim pattern? I didn't realize there were so many fun cowboy cardigans :) haha! I can't imagine the tiny intarsia. I know how fiddly it was with three colors and big spaces of change. you are a rockstar! and thanks for the kind words of encouragement!

    I like to keep everything that I might need handy. In my knitting bag I keep a crochet hook, scissors, darning needles, emery board, stitch markers, progress keepers, light bulb markers, instructions for Kitchener stitch on an index card. I also have small treasures from places I have knit - like small pebbles and tiny sea shells.

    Your Mooncrush colors are so much fun. Ms. Frizzle is my FAVORITE. I love wearing something me-made every day - it's empowering, it feels good. Love your velour (or not velour) dusty pink top - it's beautiful and I'm proud of you for taking on the challenge!! Cheering you on friend!!! I really don't like sewing with slippery fabric lol (and yes I use a walking foot!). I want to knit a million Metropolitan Pullovers! For your daughter's version, you could knit the size 1 and on a needle size down to adjust the gauge slightly tighter so that would shrink it down just a little more (if you don't want to mess with grading....)?? I mean, I would swatch and do the math at the critical points (yoke depth, body circ, etc) to see if it would make sense with her measurements and fit. Always fun catching up with you Nicole!! Congrats on 4k! I also enjoyed reading Legends & Lattes. I really enjoyed reading Part of Your World - it's fun knowing the MN references!!
    P.S. - you reminded me of something when you mentioned your daughter starting 1st grade with a brand new teacher... When my oldest was in 1st grade she had a newer teacher who was A KNITTER!!! She always commented on my daughter's handknit socks and sweaters and I knit her a shawl as a thank you gift at the end of the school year. Her mom's a knitter too. Anyway, it would be fun to chat about school stuff and knitting at parent-teacher conferences.

    • @professorpurl
      @professorpurl  Месяц назад +1

      Hi Stephanie! I always get excited to read your comments when I see your name :) I totally agree: Wearing handmade things feels super empowering. I think that's one of the reason I really admire your sewing and find your podcast so inspiring. It's (inspiring)^2 to knit AND sew. Also: great idea about doing the smallest size with smaller gauge! The gauge is so large on this that modifiying by going down a bit could work really well. I know you tested this sweater too so you know how majestic it is. I haven't loved a pattern like this in a long, long, long time. It's bringing so much joy to me and I hope you felt that too.

Essentials in my notions pouch for each project includes the regular things like scissors and stitch markers but I try and keep a crochet hook so if I make a mistake in my knitting, I can fix it straight away! Your t-shirt is beautiful even with your rookie sewing (I can’t really comment because I don’t sew at all), and I love Unicorn Purple. I was looking at it just yesterday on the website of my LYS. I’m currently knitting a test knit called the Lucca Sweater by Kristen Finlay of Skein Yarn here in Australia. Congratulations to the 4K subscribers!! I've made a lot of summer tops this year so I'm looking forward to transitioning into fall knits. My newest cast on is going to be a Ranunculus, which I will hopefully finish in time for Rhinebeck. I'm actually using the yarn you sent me that dyed for the tank top along winner last summer. If you remember it's a really pretty peachy pink, and I got some Drops mohair in a darker pink to go with it. It will be a gloriously pink top! My biggest fall goal is to cast on a blanket for my daughter for her 16th birthday. I have no idea if I will finish it in time, but she's a huge Gilmore Girls fan, and I purchased several skeins from Treehouse Knit's Gilmore Girls collection earlier this summer. It will be epic. I have many small notions pouches, that all have scissors, tapestry needles, stitch markers and barber cords (I bought a bunch of pony bead string from amazon a couple of years ago). That being said, I always seem to misplace the pouches, ha! Good luck with your classes this year!

I just retired this past June, but I would have loved to have had a class like the one your are teaching on data and SIP! As the Instructional Facilitator, I was the leader of the SIP for 15 years. I always felt so lost when it came to examining the data, bringing it all together, and determining what goals and actions to implement to have real and positive change. (Let's not even get into how to support both the admin., and teachers on the team so that they can internalize and be a part of the process.)
