But when he said. 50 lb weight pull ups. I started laughing because im doing 50lb weighted pull ups but they are mcgill pull ups. 2 rep max for 6 to 8 rep max n trust me after the first 2 reps. You will be struggling.
I think his numbers are off unless he is talking about Body builders tht dont Work. Gym only and do comp.
@@82PeRKwhat you just said makes sense. A lot of these workout regimes revolve around sedentary lifestyles. That’s why a skinny guy working construction jumping on a 6 day program will only fail.

Some people are more or less genetically gifted for athletics and aesthetics. I love the comment by Peter about comparing where you are with where you started. I’m fairly strong, but I drink a lot of beer. And I’m not gonna quit. So, I’m heavy. I train pull ups. It takes me 5 sets to hit 20 reps. I benched 315 after just a year of lifting. Deadlifted 405 after just 18 months. But I’m chubby. Not very aesthetic. However, my physique today versus when I started two years ago is the comparison to make. Making good progress. Not jacked like some of y’all, but strong and always improving. That’s the good stuff. Keep at it, y’all. In these days and times, being strong in body gives mental strength that is much needed. Excellent advice! For me, I am only competing with myself from a month ago and strive for incremental improvements while also living a full life.
I'm the opposite. Im naturally lean. However i did try to bulk once and did powerlifting and i think it helped my bodybuilding. Now i don't go crazy on the weights anymore. I don't need to. I think you should try leaning for a while just to see what it's like. You might not like it. You might want to go back to your usual weigh but at least you'll know.

@ColonelEMHouse A lifestyle that allows you to be strong and a little heavy (sounds like you enjoy life) is one that you can sustain over a lifetime. Very few really "jacked" guys can sustain the kind of discipline it requires over a lifetime, especially as your job becomes more challenging, you get married and begin having children and a family. Would not change a thing - have fun and good luck!

Lyle McDonald noticed many of his powerlifting clients build muscle faster than the bodybuilders. Because in powerlifting the progressive overload is built right into the sport. But many bodybuilders get lost in fluff and pump, tempo etc.
Me:
1. pillar push ups;
2. pillar inverted rows;
3. pillar pull ups;
3. back squats;
4. conventional DLs.
for the first two exercises, elevate your feet.
for the first three exercises, use a weight vest.
for pull ups, add an ankle weight.
hope this helps...
More weight = More tension, so if you can do more weight for the same amount of reps/time as another lifter, you will be spending the same time under greater tension so will grow more.
Using lighter weights after burning out with heavy is probably the way to get the most out of every muscle fiber type
I weigh 200. Been lifting for 2 years. Started at 40 years old. I'm up to 100 lb db for 5 to 7 reps. My goal was 120s but now it's 130s 😅

People argue about strength vs size in the context of 1rm. For chrissakes, if you push yourself hard enough to get bigger you will get stronger in the rep ranges. Besides, who doesn’t want strength with their size?
I feel like specific strength is required and usually happens anyway when you’re big. What I mean is that you have to have a big curl to have big biceps, probably a strong barbell row for a big mid back, or in general have to be strong at whatever movements you do to get big.

@@analogcrunch4716 a ton of powerlifters aren’t natty. This is my observation on elite naturals on RUclips. People like GVS, Bald omni man, Alex Leonidas, Basement bodybuilding, and Natural Hypertrophy all have strong curls and big biceps. They are strong at the lifts they do and are also jacked. Even tested powerlifters usually aren’t natty, moreover the ones at a world class level also have world class genetics. Someone like Matt Vena who I believe to be natty has big muscles in the primary movers of SBD but his other muscles are lagging behind, same with Justin Lee as well.
@@analogcrunch4716 Because they are fat (most of the best natty powerlifters) and the fat covers their muscle definition. Powerlifters are generally extremely muscular. They are just 30% body fat so you dont notice as much.
I once watched a guy with toothpicks for legs squat 400 pounds. Most impressive and at the same time, scary lift I've ever seen 😅

According to the sport they competed in, that statement isn't incorrect, but it still is the case that to look like you can press 400 lbs you have to actually be able to press close to 400lbs.

That's really strange. I am nowhere near the bench standards but I am very close to the row and pull standards. I'm nowhere near the squats standards but am very close to the RDL standards.
This is just my opinion, but doesn't that huge discrepancy add to the list of reasons why strength standards have issues as a concept? It's not like I haven't tried with bench and squat. My rows and pulls kept going up while my bench and squat would stall for months on end. And they were more dependent on how heavy I was.
I am stronger at pulling like you as well. As a result i`m dense and thick from back, mediocre from front.

I think you should have added standards for isolation too. People are just gonna focus on these lifts and let their arms stay neglected, resulting in spider physique
@@joaqu7002 close grip bench press and weighted chin ups work the arms, isolations are for definition and a small amount of muscle growth, that's it

@@joaqu7002 the word "spider physique" is ridiculous, people who say that people who do only compounds will lag in their arms, which is false, and total assumption, I guess they mean lagging in definition? It's an overused term usually said by the average Reddit fluff and pump guy, these people also dismiss that the big 6 compounds are not the only ones, and there are variations that work the arms more, I don't see improvements in my triceps until I progress on my bench press, and close grip bench press, isolations haven't done much for me size wise
@@KingAdjust around the same level, but I notice changes in the arms when I progress on curls and extensions and they don’t really grow from compounds. Except for chin ups, but I am disproportionately strong on those

What about the military press for big shoulders?
Poor time economy and low SFR. Much better ways to build shoulders than the standard overhead press. I love the lift, don’t get me wrong, and I got up to 297.5 lbs on it strict (couldn’t quite hit 300😤), but it’s overrated as an upper body builder, imo
Its a front delt movement. So great for front delts.
@@Ojthemighty yeah buddy, but a variation that emphasizes the lateral delts is a deep behind-the-neck press. I’m talking burying the bar to where it’s starting at almost mid trap level. It’ll humble you like a motherfucker at first and it requires a lot of starting strength and mobility, but it puts the side delts in a lengthened stretch like nothing else
I think these numbers get a little off the heavier you get because at 268 that would put me at 405lbs bench press for 5-10, I do not believe that is achievable natty except for the 0.001 percent. My chest is not Arnold big by any means but it is big and at 268 my chest still pokes out past my stomach and is very visible in a shirt as muscle. I’m only able to flat press 315lbs for 2 strict reps as well

I don't do isolations, and instead do compound movements reverse pyramid training style for 2 sets, this has given me great results, more than isolations, the strength gains are better with this style imo, so I'd say a powerlifting style with RDL'S, close grip bench press, more compound variations than typical powerlifting and doing reverse pyramid training so there's a rep range variety is the way to go imo, I do each movement twice a week and progress on them, this is working well and is fun to do 1 hard heavy set, then lighten the weight so I'm not pre fatigued on a 2nd heavy set and can get a bit more volume

I have to walk back what I said about training like you’re enhanced, because that Mike Mentzer, Dorian Yates HIT stuff DEFINITELY won’t cut it for natties. At least 6 hard, quality sets to where you’re down to 0 or near 0 RIR is probably the minimum at where the great gains start. In fact I think that’s a great way to train if you can keep progressing long term on it

What percentage of the "really" jacked bodybuilders you reference at the gym that lift the poundages you specify are using gear? Can naturals get "jacked" while obtaining the strength levels you specify? As a natural, I can do 56 chin-ups but hardly any when adding 50lbs. Would be lying if I said your strength standards are not highly intimidating. I train 4 - 5 days per week for 1.5 hours per session (double split - 2 days on, one day off, two days on...etc.) and look very good for the time I invest. Every powerlifter at my gym looks bad, some how decent traps from heavy DLs most have awful arms and yet they bench 5 plates ask yourself why !! Oh they are on gear as well

What should I do if I hit a strength plateau?
If able to pull heavy weights you describe and you do not do the maximum amounts, will you not lose strength such that body recalibrates to weights actually being used?

Im only 8 weeks into first bodybuilding , 210 lbs but can only bench 60kg total for 8 reps , do i just keep going with gradual progression and conistency and in time it will occur considering im hitting my protein goals

The main issue with people is they will focus so much on lifting numbers, but with bad form and technique in regards to hypertrophy.
When you progress with your weight lifting, and lifting heavier weight, you need to end up focusing on your hypertrophy technique.
I know someone who is huge who lifts less than skinny guys. But he lifts with slow and strict form and stays in the stretch for insane amounts of time. And the skinnier guys are lifting a lot of weight, but fast and with bad form.
A sword needs to be hit hard a thousand times to be made a sword. Same with muscles. Volume plus hitting heavy weights is just the right spot. It is the only logical approach in the gym.
Only dudes abusing gear will tell you that you will grow from volume and not strength. This guy is on steroids
I can bench 1.2Xbw for 5, squat 1.65Xbw for 5, pullup 0.4Xbw for 5, rdl 2Xbw for 5 at 15 years old. is this good?
Do you know your test levels?
Blood test at the doctors. If you suspect you have low testosterone try to find the source of why there's many reasons. If you don't know why then try to have a diet more focused for testosterone production, sleep more, lose weight safely/slowly if you are overweight, go lift heavier etc.

No elite bodybuilders train like these new science nerds none, you shouldn’t do extreme ROM or stretching you shouldn’t do 2 sets and top and back off you shouldn’t do low reps. I’ve trained with numerous guys who were on Olympia stages and newsflash none train that way.

Emphasis on “most”. The other 20% will make you feel like you hammered your body for 14 years 12 hours a day while they sat in a cushy office and trained for 1.5hrs a day but are still stronger and most probably better looking than you. Turn down the ego mate

The good part is the genétics in my family i have to admit they are all in very good shape. I play with my body weight all the time, lose weight, gain its easy for me. But my brother can keep up with me with his weights and trust me he goes big
Every capable man should be able to bench 3 plates, squat 4 plates and deadlift 5 plates within their lifetime. Not sure why we have lost our way with these standards. That's fucking old skool.
I’d like to add: a 2 plate strict overhead standing press and 10 strict sternum-to-bar dead hang pull ups. The latter makes sure we hit all these standards while staying lean and fit, because that is VERY hard to do if you’re dreamer bulking lol

Pump is more important and great bodybuilders always knew this. Even prisoners now can’t lift they do tons of pump work with basics and are bigger than gym bros and powerlifters because they train for tension and pumps. Sure if a weight is very light you go up but too many of you go way way too heavy. Most of you use front delts to bench and db bench press and it’s why you lack pec development

That’s true, but honestly, you’re going to get strong af BY ACCIDENT if you’re training hard, eating, and resting. It’s unavoidable. Might not be world class powerlifter or strongman strong, but a heck of a lot stronger than your average human or even chimp. (Fun fact: chimps aren’t anywhere near as strong as pop culture thinks they are; they’re only slightly more powerful than the average-sized, untrained male)
