It must be a fantastic feeling when there’s nothing left on the track to overtake! The car sure goes and handles superbly Matt. It’s a total credit to you! 👏👍✊👌
Your driving has improved a lot Matt and it was a pleasure watching the good lines you took in and out of corners. The car is so much more stable now too! I especially enjoyed the sound. So glad you made this last video before the turbo installation.
Awesome little car, a tribute to all of the hard work you put into it. I have a 1967 hillman imp that I wanted to do something similar with but I've quickly realized I do not have the skills required 😂
Dam I love this car, an amazing project you have built Matt, getting it well sorted must feel so good as you outdrive those modern cars, excellent work .
Hey Matt, your driving is superb you've really got the Pea by the horns, quite a few of those cars if driven well should have kept up tho you blew there doors off!! Well done!! Nice lines and keeping the momentum up!!
What a wicked little motor, followed the build right when the channel was fairly new! took my dads kit car round there a few times on a track day a few years back, one of the best days Ive had!
Lol, yeah, but in this case I think it has more to do with the level of skills of the driver than the power of the car - the blue beemer pulled away with ease on the straight parts, but got caught in the turns.
Track days aren't about being the fastest, no matter what you turn up with someone will have something faster and no matter how good you think you are, there will be someone there who can drive around you like you were sightseeing.
That was surprising! Last time I watched the Mongrel race it quit! That was a whole lot betters than being the one everyone was passing. It was Sweet Pea revenge! I can't wait to see what the Mongrel will do with a GARRETT Turbo! "CHEERS, ERCHMAN!"
Your car is some achievement to be proud of......in every respect. That engine is crisp and your driving ain't too shabby. I loved the way you dealt with all the straight liners...😊😊 Heaven knows what it's going to be like turboed. Great stuff very enjoyable.
It's a Greeen hammer, is what it is! Both the Mongrel and your self- you did a great job keeping her at that new edge. Great show! I have to hang with Dan Thompson- you both got it in one! FR
Matt the car looks and sounds great I'm glad you decided to stick with youtube after your early doubts and your accent I said at the time stick with it if I want a polished presentation I would watch mane stream which I do not can it wait for the Turbo
I love the Mongrel. A mate of mine built a Marina Coupe rally car with full Group 4 Escort underpinnings and it had a Honda S2000 motor. It was called the 'Horris, the Maronda.' It now has a Ford Duratec in it, so has been renamed 'Forris, the Durina.' Maybe the Mongrel is a Forazda MX100E5?
It looked like the other driver backed off (or "gave up"). It clearly had a better power-to-weight ratio. Matt was definitely catching it through the corners though!
@@seanalexander9531 yeah he definitely backed off as he knew he couldn't match him in the corners. When it's turbocharged it will be a different animal
All you basically need is a bit more stroke and better flowing heads. Then you can add faster rear gear to get more top speed. When you slap on a turbo kit, That's a lot of weight and heat to deal with. Have we learned anything from the Saab saga? Or will the groundhogday in race car building repeat itself indefinitely?
Holy Shit Matt the old Mongrel really went well. Thought you were going to rearend that blue beemer. Always loved the 100Es, had a few back in the day. All the best, Mart in Solihull.
One properly quick little shoe box on wheels Matt..... the guy in the blue bmw must have been a bit pi55ed....lol. It'll certainly change the character of the car having a turbo...... you'll be able to pull a longer final drive!!
Matt. You're going Turbo now & I'm selling off my mountain of Cossie stuff so I can afford to finish the Viva! It's going n/a S2000 & box now. Should still be a laugh! Cheers. Leigh.
I will miss the throttle bodies. I do love how angry they sound!! Matt Are you keeping the Throttle bodies with the Turbo kit? I'm sure it will give a better throttle response and sound, just not quite the NA sound!!
Was wondering, at a track day like this, with many 'modern' cars, how is the mushy pea received? Do the other drivers show a bit of interest, have a look at what went flying past them, or do they turn their noses up? I'm guessing you get a bit of both??? Looking forward to the next phase of the cars build. Hopefully escort power without the sump dramas.
It's pretty obvious from here that you've got the handling pretty dialled-in now, very composed and un-dramatic, and It's the kind that comes from a well sorted car AND a decent set of hands on the wheel! composure can be a tough thing to achieve with such a short wheelbase, and is definitely a plus, although my personal taste is for something with a little more bite at the front, but it's hard to tell from my (extremely stationary) couch just what she feels like! It might be worth stiffening the roll at the front a little as the extra weight of the turbo will need to be compensated for, and it'll help take a bit more load from the rears, which might suddenly become very important! That should still keep the turn-in response sharp, but tend to soften any oversteer in mid-late corner. Or you could just do whatever works for you, as it's obviously worked pretty well so far! Sterling job young man! Thanks!
So many straight line warriors! Classic example the M2 = fast car, the Mongrel = fast driver. Great going Matt!
It must be a fantastic feeling when there’s nothing left on the track to overtake! The car sure goes and handles superbly Matt. It’s a total credit to you! 👏👍✊👌
At first it feels quite cool, but after a Lap or two it feels pretty boring. Good thing is, there´s always someone who´s faster than you. 👍
Cheers 🍻

Sooo good watching you steer that rocket around the track. Thanks for sharing for those of us that can’t
Those Mini guys better watch out! I see you being competitive right from the start! Great fun Matt! 😃👍👍
Will have to wait and see, the standard of driving is really high so I think it will be a steep learning curve.
It's just such a fantastic track build. Quirky, sporty and somewhat reliable.
Awesome, be even better soon with the turbo on it 😀👍🏽
YOU AND THAT MACHINE ARE A PERFECT MATCH ,LOVE IT
What a wonderful little car, and excellent driving too, may I say.
Boy you're going to be fairly honking when this gets a turbo. It's pretty fast now! Great stuff to watch.
Awesome little car, a tribute to all of the hard work you put into it. I have a 1967 hillman imp that I wanted to do something similar with but I've quickly realized I do not have the skills required 😂
Watched a few of these now and what a progression since the first start 😎

You were gobbling up everybody on the track. Nom nom nom

You spent all that money on a car and an old 100E is passing you by on a track day 😂Gutted
😂😂😂

Yes but just because you drive a Ferrari it doesn't make you a Ferrari driver,. Just check out all the wrecked Ferraris on youtube
Its a Mazda 100E 😊
AWESOME! Hot laps in the "Green Machine "!!!!
Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Cracking drive Matt!
Great stuff Matt....Looking forward to you 'peeing on a few bonfires' of the straight line heroes, once that turbos fitted! 😂
Excuse me. Coming through. 🤣🤣🤣🏁👍
That thing handles like a Red Bull F1 car. Awesome.
Steve.
Matt, you’ve got more guts than Ned Kelly to drive that fast!
this was so much fun to watch
Well worth the time and effort Matt fanbloodytastic 👍👨🏻🏭
Nice run, waiting for the turbo reveal is going to be epic.
Yay! Got 'im Matt!
Glorious!
Sounds and goes amazing mate, sounds like you need a longer diff
That was so cool, brother👍🏾 but I did wait until you proved that you can pass that hatchback🚙 before I gave you a thumbs up 😂🏎️💨
sounds awesome
Great video Matt. That car really goes well. She is going to be a beast after you force feed her. Looking forward to those vids. Top Man.👍 From S.A

Well done matt your hard work has paid off cant wait for the engine and turbo swap
The mushy pea is propper quick.
Light cars rule.
I think it's safe to say a fair bit of clenching was going on at 2:36 🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic video and just a perfect ride. I am extremely curious what cars you will leave behind with the new turbo😎
I may visit you sometime next track season. Love that car, wish I had one stateside.
Do it buddy

@@Urchfab, It's a horrific shade of BL green with a vinyl roof, which makes it even cooler.
sounds amazing. but you should super charge that thing.
May need a straight cut box for the extra power of the turbo 😊
magic
Thought you were going to rear end the blue beemer🤪🤪🤪
Almost 😅
That 2 series driver would be fuming great driving tho Matt

I'm torn! I'll miss thatrorty sound but also looking forward to a little pssssht!
As a wise kid once said, 'man up and fix it!'
Me too mate
In many cases you were driving around cars that were more powerful 😜😂😜 very impressive.
Such a phucking phat sound 😍

Wish I had the talent to build one like that..
Have a go and you will learn 👍

Cozzy would be mint in this but Mazda engines are cheap as 🍟
What engine is in it 😲
Mush pea rulings
Too bad that beautiful sound will disappear because of the turbo.
haha, youcaught the beamer

No going back to a stock inlet. Sorry
Fabulous video, are you absolutely sure you need a turbo 🤔
Probably not but it will make thing interesting 👍
Matt, What's the power increase with fitted going to be? Andy
I’m hoping for another 100 bhp ish
