    This video is a perfect mirror to my experiences. I currently have a 400whp 135i M sport and my last car was an Acura RSX (very similar to the EP3).
    My RSX had full suspension, race brakes, Poly everything, braces, 'Cheater tires' etc. My 1er has FBO, minor suspension updates and rear subframe braces on street tires.
    For me, its not even a comparison on the track, the RSX was more fun in everyway besides the straights. The big 6 Piston calipers on the 1er will cook the 'sport' pads after a few good laps. The RSX would run all day with no fade, no issues etc.
    I will forever be a fan of light weight, engaging cars.

    Ahhh brake fade, the thing no mainstream performance car reviewers ever talk about, but the thing that makes the vast majority of heavy ‘performance cars’ useless after 15 minutes of track driving. I really don’t get it. Top Gear and all the RUclips channels doing 60-0 brake tests and other nonsense that doesn’t matter if the pad is obliterated after 15 minutes on track. It’s even hard to buy aftermarket pads knowing which will survive track use and for how long - all the folk talking about breaking power and dust but not trackday longevity. Speaking as someone who’s spent too many trackday lunch breaks changing pads.

    • @vafan13
      @vafan13 3 года назад +1

      Because brake fade is irrelevant for the vast majority of people buying such cars, and the small percentage of people intending to track probably (hopefully) already know they're going to upgrade the brakes.

      @@1061shrink1061 even Engineering Explained, who should know better, responded to criticism that he did a brake test video with simple emergency stops, so he tested vented brake discs vs solid ones by doing heavy breaking down a steep hill...better, but still not a trackday duty cycle, vented discs have a lower heat capacity than solid discs, so get hot quicker, but also cool down quicker on the straights which is the point. The way to test the track effectiveness of brakes is to go on a track and measure the temperature and measure the wear rate over time.

    • @markythegreat

      @@1061shrink1061 ducting for cooling I think is important and something I will add to my next track car build (I am sadly on a car diet right now until I move house). There is only so far you can go with reasonably priced brake upgrades, and a simple bit of pipe to add more air (which is ultimately what is taking the energy away even after upsizing callipers and racing pads and vented disks etc) is potentially an amazing mod for increasing seat time.

    Great video Misha illustrating how power isn't everything. I'm finding my M240i has way too much power for how poorly the stock set up is on the car. I mostly drive on twisty mountain-ish roads, and even then, driving moderately, I find the setup to be very lacking in the "fun" department. Too much power, too much understeer. I much preferred using lighter cars with better brakes, better suspension and tires and less power.

    I saw a “pancake factor” in Misca’s driving performance between the two laps ...I believe we need to know if these laps are being performed before or after visiting Devil’s Diner. That would make answering the question of power VS. handling more real world for the uninitiated!

    What I want to know is where the Toyota GR Yaris holds between the two cars tested? Lets have a three way comparison with the GR Yaris. You have to justify price also and I am sure the BMW is far pricier ann the other two cars. Nice video but not enough cars compared.

    As a previous owner of a Honda CRX with a swapped in ITR motor and a few Mazda Miatas(mx-5), no doubt, I would have more fun with light weight, low(ish) hp, and a properly set up chassis.

    Handling and grip is always the priority. Power is the cherry on the cake - when it`s in harmony with the rest.

    WIsh you could do a passenger lap with that miata doing like 8:20 with almost stock engine, I think it's the biggest possible expression handling vs horsepower

    I love these comments as my 2 daily drivers are a rear wheel drive M140i and Megane RS III Aus GP special edition... Both hot hatches bother blindingly fast but both completely different. I can't say I could live without either of them 😁

    Hey Misha - intersting and cool video! I`d like to see more of these comparisons, and also comparisons esp. between a original car that you can afford, e.g. the Leon Cupra and different steps of modifications on that, for example, first the suspension, second suspension, brakes and Tires... Thank you for your content!!!
