  • I shot my first 3 gun competition at the Rio Salado Sportsman's Club.
I competed in the limited class with a Smith and Wesson M&P 15 sport 2 with a vortex Spark 2 red dot, a Glock 19, and a H&R Pardner Pump shotgun.

Glad to hear it! I've done quite a few at this point. As I got better and more competitive I got a new shotgun better suited for 3 gun and all of the proper magazine pouches and shotgun caddies but you can definitely get started and have a blast with basic equipment

Thanks for posting. Miculek is awesome, but I'm more interested in watching new players as I'm geared up to shoot my first 3 gun match at the end of this month. 👍

      How'd you go?

Lol. On the 4 stages, I came in 19th, 17th, 22nd, & 21st out of 23. The 4 times combined put me in 22nd place out of 23. My QD rifle scope mount wouldn't lock down, so twice in 1 stage I had to tighten it back down before it fell off the gun and so my zero was true again at 200 yds. And during 2 other stages I had to pick my scope up off the ground and reinstall it to finish the stage. For the shotgun part of each stage by itself I run 3rd-5th by my estimate with my 12+1 Remington V3 with 5 misses on shotgun for the day. I bought a new scope mount & expect to do better next month. Still THE MOST FUN I've ever had at target practice.

Nice job. Looks like your AR and pistol are squared away, but you may want to consider a Mossberg 500 (even a Maverick 88) or Remington 870 with higher capacity and a side saddle for combat reloads (all can be found used pretty cheap). Not sure if you're running a red dot on the shotgun, but that may help. Do you have back up iron sights cowitnessed on the AR? If not, that might have saved your bacon during the 125yrd round.

...and check out the RUclips channel GUN-TIME with Brandon; the dude knows his stuff and is a 3-gun monster.

If I put any more money into 3 gun, then a new shotgun is definitely on the list. I'm not running a red dot on the shotgun since that would put me in a different division. The AR does have backup irons with a lower 1/3 co-witness. I just didn't think about it during the stage.

Cheap Chinese shotgun will get you every time! Also, time to start doing your own reloads! Sounds like JonDinCT's knows what he's talking about.
