Wow!! Crazy!! Thank you for this back story. This is so deep!! After all these years...now I feel sorry for old skull face. Now I want to dig deeper into the mythology of masters of the universe.
What I asked me for a long time, is why He-Man didn´t stay in his form. Wil he go back after a certain time? Is he weakened after a time in the He-Man Form?
Finder Der Sonne you could watch the original series episode "Quest for the Sword" basically He-man thinks he lost the sword. He and Battlecat are nearly grieving at the idea of being unable to transform back.
Many years ago, before the fall of the housing market, Skeletor went to a bank to buy this inexpensive property out in know where and to build a castle that looks like his face. Because the land had a bottomless canyon through it the cost was low due to appreciation value, however the building costs were quite substantial. Skeletor of course isn’t very bright and instead of choosing a 15 year fixed plan, went with a 30 year flex arrangement. Then housing market tanked and the bank doubled his payments. Next thing you know, they foreclose and sell it for just the principle amount, to a bird sanctuary consortium. Ever since then Skeletor has tried to get Sorceress out of there and has attempted to squat there many times.
Classics Grayskull didn't come with an orb, but it did come with a neat stand and a cubby hole for one. I ended up using a misty quartz sphere with added blue LED back lighting for mine. Works perfectly!
One thing I noticed happened to Skeletor's motivators on the minicomics, on Filmation, and on the early 2000's series, Skeletor's motivation always degenerates from wanting to enter Castle Grayskull, and obtain the secret powers within, to wanting to conquer and rule over Eternia, to just wanting to mess up with that musclebrain He-Man! And I think the reason why this happened is that you can only have the villain fail at their objective so many times before the audience starts seeing them as a loser who's never going to accomplish anything, which removes any resemblance of threat they might have had.
Thanks for the answer to what exactly the secrets of Castle Grayskull are. Could you please answer these questions. 4) Why is Skeletor content with being in Evil-Lyn's friend zone? 3) Why is Prince Adam always transported in front of Castle Grayskull when he transforms into He-Man? 2) How come no one has dueced that Prince and He-Man are one in the same? Is it because Orko vast a spell to prevent anybody from figuring it out? 1) Why are green tigers capable of speech and dylinxes aren't?
4: They do wind up having a child together. So... 3: He isn't transported, it is just a flashing image of the castle that goes with his transformation. He is still where ever he is 4: Teela starts to put it together in the 200X series 5: Because talking animals are only cute when they are good guys
So there was the mini comic back in the day called "The Search for Keldor" and that's were Mike Young Productions got the idea, but do we know (like is there documentation) that the Mini Comics were going to have that be the story? As I recall from the comic itself, it never went into the explanation as to why Skeletor wanted to keep Randor and He-Man from finding Keldor.
I remember castle grayskull confusing the shit out of me as a kid, like why do the heroes reside in the evil looking castle that literally has a massive skull on the front while the villain is a (talking) skull. Any other hero vs villain cartoon or film would have the heroes in a 'nice' looking place while the villains resided in the dark, gloomy, ominous places.
Castle Grayskull is shaped like a skull because nothing hold its secrets as securely as a dead man. I remember hearing that on one of the vinyl records.
When I was a kid I thought Skeletor wants the castle because he used to own it. I mean, guy with a skull face + castle with skull face = dude owns the place.

@Pop-Actor Yeah, it’s the same with the Kronis -> TrapJaw story. Everybody knows that Trapjaw was an professional criminal guy from some other dimension ;)
To be fair, I've seen it spelt "Greyskull" on official stuff, too, but I'm having trouble finding the images. The one I remember most prominently was in "The Shaping Staff," when the disguised Beast Man and Evil-Lyn were discussing annexing the castle into Eternos territory, and the map scroll they had in front of them had that spelling. But as a former colleague of mine with the surname Gray pointed out: "Gray is a name, grey is the colour."
One of my English lecturers would say to us "grEy for English, grAy for American"... he also said the version of Gray/Grey w.r.t. a person's name largely depends on whether their family is American or from the rest of the English-speaking world. He did also say that the spelling use in an official/proper noun capacity *should* the one used when writing something down (like Greystoke Castle in England, and Castle Grayskull in Eternia)... then again, he also said that he personally couldn't take the 'Grayskull' spelling seriously and would always 'correct' it to Greyskull, saying "These people still insist on using feet and inches instead of metric units; how can we trust them to spell *anything* properly in English?", so I guess the UK English/US English war is not over yet... 😅
@@vladt7150 Personally, even as an English person -- probably BECAUSE I'm an English person -- I prefer the Imperial measurement system. In the words of Brian Albumen, "Any fool can calculate metrically. Figuring out weights in pounds, ounces, drams, and scruples honed the British brain and built the Empire!" 😉🤣 Also, the co-worker whose name was spelt "Gray" was Enlgish, too. As for the spelling of "Grayskull," well, it's copyrighted and trademarked as such, so that's the "correct" spelling. Also, it's based off the name of King D'Vann Grayskull, so it's a proper name. 😉
Skeletor wants conquest of Eternia and the known universe and believes Castle Grayskull will make him invincible and all powerful. The question is why? There are many possibilities. It's possible before becoming Skeletor, Keldor may had consulted a oracle and was told his destiny was to become master of the universe and that he was to break in and conquer Castle Grayskull and uncover it's secrets and another possibilites, Skeletor could be a dark reincarnation of King Grayskull.
Filmation showed a lot of the concepts from MOTU w/o ever really explaining it properly. I think that's why I like 200X the most out of every MOTU show, because it took the time out to try & explain things & expanded on the lore. I know if they'd had a 3rd season, then it would've revolutionized the entire property (even more so than it already has).
Is it possible for a sorcerer, such as Skeletor, to wield the full power of the Star Seed without first possessing the Orb of Power? Or would he be overwhelmed by all the magikal energy without the strength provided by the power of He?
@@spectorcreative1872 I remember the Star Seed being overpowered by coming into contact with the Sword of He, at the conclusion of your movie treatment, and that Skeletor is sucked into the Star Seed in the ensuing maelstrom.
Justified? The video was great up until the last 15 seconds. Saying a villain is "justified" is to completely not understand what evil or villainy is. It doesn't matter if he perceives himself as wronged or justified. Perception isn't reality. Reality is reality.
1:37 Yes, misspelling is such a mental agony for me, too. Being an Englishman I feel it when I see Americans misspell English words all the time. "Grey" for example. :-D
Where did you find the art / comic, what have you, portraying the creation of the blue sword and the transmittal of the power to the orb? Searching online, can't seem to find it. If it's a comic, what's the name, who published it?
I always thought the sword was the thing he was after. The castle was just the home of the sword...of course I was really young back then so what did I know....I mean he say he held aloft the MAGIC SWORD and does shout "by the power of gray skull......I HHHAAAAVVEEE THEEEE POOOWWEERRRR"
To be fair, the original intention was the complete sword was a key to Castle Grayskull, and He-Man and Skeletor had each a half of the power sword. Mind you, that is in the original comics. I was always amazed as a wee child that Skeletor had a purple version of He-Man's sword that snapped together with He-Man.
Ever since the Christmas Special where he's supposed to deliver those Earth Children to Hordak, insisting that isn't nice, and then eventually takes them home, I question Skeletor's evilness.
I mean - they have to do something new, right? He already betrayed hordac in another series and captured he-man and the sourceress multible times. The only thing left is to take the caste and start to act like a king. Creating laws, get settlers, build up the industry. Fight against nasty babarians in pelt underwear ... That would be fun.
I am sure there is a plot twist to it. Why should the bosses of orco gain all the cosmic energy in one place - and make a sword out of it of all things? Then just give it to a random warrior on a planet which just so happens to resonate well with magic? Maybe they harvest the magic of etheria for themself and have multible "swords" spread around the universe(s).
'Hey, Skeletor. Why do you always want to get the deed to Castle Grayskull anyway?' 'Because....I'M NOT NICE!!' 'Dude, that's not cool-' 'Listen, you! I'm not good, I'm not happy and I'm NOT NICE! Don't take it personally. It's my job. It's what I DO!'
I stared playing with HeMan before I was in kindergarten. I couldn’t read. As a kid, I thought Grayskull was Skeletor’s. I assumed the good guys had to keep him out so he wouldn’t become too powerful.
It's funny how deep the mythology goes for this property. I was 3ish when the brand launched back in 82 and really always thought it was tailored just for 3-year-olds who mostly just kind of outgrew the brand because military action like Rambo and Commando and Predator was just more prevalent than fantasy in the coming years in general pop culture. Even being a pretty fanatical He-Man kid from 3 to 5 the MOTU cast really got reduced to background characters in our Thundercats, Silverhawks, and eventually Turtles adventures. Really less prevalent than the clearance bin toys that entered the collection because they were discounted in late Match or early July when birthdays came up with less Christmas advertising. I feel like Fisto was the peek with the Lizard from the Live action movie and Rio Blast being late-line figures that would have been fun to have in the toybox.
Why does Skeletor wants Castle Grayskull? Because it hides various magical powers which in themselves not good or evil, but bends to the will of whoever controls it.

I always thought as a kid Skeletor was completely and totally about unlocking Grayskull and learning it's secrets. However it soon changed to thinking old Bonehead was consumed with beating He-Man, everything else is gravy on top.
I do like me some gravy
I'll admit that I have trouble remembering "A" vs "E" but I just look it up online it take a gander at my various products before I post. Maybe now, I will finally remember!
Video starts at 0:48.
And the comments are endless!
It's really simple. He-Man has the power. Skeletor wants the power. I mean, it's in the intro.
He-Man: "I have the power!"
Its all so simple! The hat goes on the head
I'm reasonably certain that the plot of the new show is Skeletor winning, becoming an empowered evil god figure by defetaing He-Man and taking the Power of Grayskull, and Teela leading the remaining Masters to fight him without He-Man's power.
I believe it will involve talking Kangaroos. But I have no proof beyond the drugs I just took
@@spectorcreative1872 I think I saw that Movie
5:54 Just a little correction... the Star Seed showed up in the Filmation episode called "The Search". "The Golden Discs of Knowledege" are both a different MacGuffin and a different episode altogether, but both episodes had Zodac in them.
Point taken and appreciated
Whatever happened to the backstory that involved the council of elders that transformed themselves into an orb, which was hidden away in castle Grayskull? Wasn’t that the hidden power behind Castle Grayskull and He-Man in the 200X series?
See above
"...From a certain point of view" - well done, you worded it just right so I caught it! Love the easter eggs!
Glad it was appreciated
Scott, I'd just like to tell you I've been sharing what I've learned on your channel with my fellow toy fans on the TFW2005 forum.
I hope my efforts bring new viewers to your channel and help your channel continue to grow.
It's been my privilege to help.
Thank you. Can't tell you how much this is appreciated! Topics always welcomed!
……could be Blueprints there to Magically transform him back to Keldor..
Could be your dishwasher
I recently started watching the old filmation series again and i got to say it's really fun. It's so charming and a breath of fresh air against the dumb edgy deconstructive stuff that's constantly being pushed today (as if that made it more mature) made even worse when they try to psuh some ideological agenda. Honestly just go and check it out, it's free on youtube.
It really is! And holds up
Do you really take the time to answer every question? If so you're great. I really enjoy your channel. I've learned a lot about He-Man lore and about the toy industry from you.
Yes. Yes i do. Case in point
Wow!! Crazy!! Thank you for this back story. This is so deep!! After all these years...now I feel sorry for old skull face. Now I want to dig deeper into the mythology of masters of the universe.
Well this channel is a good place to start. Be sure to check out the back log of videos
I'm guessing he wants to sell it to a collector and use that money to buy a face ....
How did you know?
Well, they're working on a Face / Off 2. Maybe you and Skeletor can make it a trilogy !
All the damn skull castle and battle cats got sold out in toyrus
@Pop-Actor I will just be praying if there is a sword replica I at least can get one before it is sold out.
So if the Sword of He = Sword of Power, does that mean He-Man = Power-Man to the Trollan (sp?) people?
100%
... So what about She-Ra!? Maybe I should study up on Trollan before the Netflix series drops. 🤔
Mean while on Earth, Dr. Wily can't keep Mega Man from breaking in and blowing up his skull themed castles.
At least Mega Man has infinite lives and save mode
What I asked me for a long time, is why He-Man didn´t stay in his form. Wil he go back after a certain time? Is he weakened after a time in the He-Man Form?
Because if he does stay as He-Man, then he'll lose his humanity.
No, but he wants to protect his family like Peter Parker or Clark Kent
Finder Der Sonne you could watch the original series episode "Quest for the Sword" basically He-man thinks he lost the sword. He and Battlecat are nearly grieving at the idea of being unable to transform back.
"Damn magical squatters always trying to keep my castle for themselves!!"
- Skeletor (at some point)
Pretty much
Many years ago, before the fall of the housing market, Skeletor went to a bank to buy this inexpensive property out in know where and to build a castle that looks like his face.
My gosh, you figured it out! Damn.
Thank you! Would you talk at some point about the similarities and differences between the Vintage and Commemorative figures?
You got it!
Classics Grayskull didn't come with an orb, but it did come with a neat stand and a cubby hole for one. I ended up using a misty quartz sphere with added blue LED back lighting for mine. Works perfectly!
Point taken. It came with King Grayskull
Once again...thank you Scott for your informative videos.
Tell your friends!
Oh yeah they were all over the place
He is still where ever he is
4: Teela starts to put it together in the 200X series
5: Because talking animals are only cute when they are good guys
So there was the mini comic back in the day called "The Search for Keldor" and that's were Mike Young Productions got the idea, but do we know (like is there documentation) that the Mini Comics were going to have that be the story? As I recall from the comic itself, it never went into the explanation as to why Skeletor wanted to keep Randor and He-Man from finding Keldor.
Yes the idea in the mini comics was it would be revealed keldor was pre skeleton. But the lone was canceled
Oh yes, and it isn't even grey.
I love your videos, thank you for making them.
Thank you for watching them and commenting!

Here in the UK, it was called Greyskull on some merchandise. After all, it's how we spell 'grey' here.
Doesn't the UK know we invented English here in America?
@@spectorcreative1872 Hey, you guys brought us He-Man. You've earned the right to spell it however you want 😁

Castle Grayskull is shaped like a skull because nothing hold its secrets as securely as a dead man. I remember hearing that on one of the vinyl records.
That sounds about right
When I was a kid I thought Skeletor wants the castle because he used to own it. I mean, guy with a skull face + castle with skull face = dude owns the place.
And the box art artist thought the same thing!
I think there's a mirror in the Castle that allows time travel too.
I seem to recall that from the UK comic.
Oh there are many things in there.

I hate the Keldor story line..Always liked the mysterious origin of Skeletors part of some demon race from another dimension..
Neither are bad
Well we did incorporate that by having him *think he was a demon for a while when he was first combined with Demo Man
@@hennessyapplejuice8331 yeah hate is a strong word..More like preferred the original over the Keldor one..Any MOTU is better then no MOTU in my book.
@@spectorcreative1872 yeah I don’t blame classics for it u tried to blend both..It was 2000x..The original mini comics hinted at the Keldor thing..2000X took it n ran with it/went all in..Seen multiple posts on FB about the subject..Seems younger MOTU fans have more love for Keldor then the older ones, keldor was the norm for them while for the older fans from the 80s felt like a retcon.
To be fair, I've also seen it spelt "Seinfeld"
Figuring out weights in pounds, ounces, drams, and scruples honed the British brain and built the Empire!" 😉🤣
Also, the co-worker whose name was spelt "Gray" was Enlgish, too.
And the ones from our imagination while we play are the best ones!
Humorously, several of the subtitles on this video spell Grayskull "GREY..."
That is funny
I just love Skeletor's insults
Some of the best
I knew it. Skeletor is the good guy. He-Man's daddy is a thief and He-Man continues with the theft and shows no respect for his uncle!
Not as much a Thief as protecting his half brother from the crowd
Exactly!
Filmation showed a lot of the concepts from MOTU w/o ever really explaining it properly. I think that's why I like 200X the most out of every MOTU show, because it took the time out to try & explain things & expanded on the lore. I know if they'd had a 3rd season, then it would've revolutionized the entire property (even more so than it already has).
if only 200X kept going!
He wants the frickin HeMan sword and say " I have the power!" and become Uber Skeletor 😁😁🤗🤗
Everyone wants to be Uber
Is it possible for a sorcerer, such as Skeletor, to wield the full power of the Star Seed without first possessing the Orb of Power? Or would he be overwhelmed by all the magikal energy without the strength provided by the power of He?
But he isn't a mortal anymore
@@hennessyapplejuice8331 Fair enough, I'll edit my question.
Well according to my movie script he would be overwhelmed

Justified? The video was great up until the last 15 seconds.
Saying a villain is "justified" is to completely not understand what evil or villainy is. It doesn't matter if he perceives himself as wronged or justified. Perception isn't reality. Reality is reality.
I am a big fan of reality
Because, being a villain whose gimmick is his exposed skull, he thinks it would be perfect for an evil lair.
Clearly
Great video! Where is the comic from? From the vintage toy line ?
No it is from the MOTU Classics toy line from 2009-2016

1:37 Yes, misspelling is such a mental agony for me, too. Being an Englishman I feel it when I see Americans misspell English words all the time. "Grey" for example. :-D
Yet I am a terrible speller myself
Very good,thank you again!!🙏🙏

Where did you find the art / comic, what have you, portraying the creation of the blue sword and the transmittal of the power to the orb? Searching online, can't seem to find it. If it's a comic, what's the name, who published it?
It is the MOTU Classics mini comics issue 4
Thanks!!!
He wants it all
Ever since the Christmas Special where he's supposed to deliver those Earth Children to Hordak, insisting that isn't nice, and then eventually takes them home, I question Skeletor's evilness.
Yes, he has a heart after all...
Prediction: 10 minutes into the new series, Skeletor gets Grayskull.
I'd go with 9
I mean - they have to do something new, right?
He already betrayed hordac in another series and captured he-man and the sourceress multible times.
The only thing left is to take the caste and start to act like a king. Creating laws, get settlers, build up the industry. Fight against nasty babarians in pelt underwear ...
That would be fun.
The Sword of Power was given to a great warrior... but wars do not make one great ;-)
But they do offer great battle scars
I am sure there is a plot twist to it.
Why should the bosses of orco gain all the cosmic energy in one place - and make a sword out of it of all things?
Then just give it to a random warrior on a planet which just so happens to resonate well with magic?
Maybe they harvest the magic of etheria for themself and have multible "swords" spread around the universe(s).
'Hey, Skeletor. Why do you always want to get the deed to Castle Grayskull anyway?'
'Because....I'M NOT NICE!!'
'Dude, that's not cool-'
'Listen, you! I'm not good, I'm not happy and I'm NOT NICE! Don't take it personally. It's my job. It's what I DO!'
Pretty much how it went
Who didn't want Castle Grayskull in the first place?! I wanted it!
It is a nice second home
I stared playing with HeMan before I was in kindergarten. I couldn’t read. As a kid, I thought Grayskull was Skeletor’s. I assumed the good guys had to keep him out so he wouldn’t become too powerful.
You are not alone in that!
Is this the same King Randor that's Adam's and Adora's father? As in Skeletor is He Man and She Ra's uncle?
Yup and yup
Oddly enough, AFAIK, it’s even GrAyskull in British English as well, and that’s usually the only place it would change.
Ha
So He-Man and his cronies are basically squatters?
Or protectors
We need a video about Procrustus ..... I wonder what he's doing the whole day alone in the core . ^^
Well that is coming. I am going in figure release order. (and it is mostly Chess against the Rock men)
But, Keldor was good, up to that point, right? Why would he get rid of the queen? Is there anything that proves his innocence or condemns him?
Well he didn't actually kill the queen. See the issues' cover for the hint
I thought I knew the full story but this video taught me a lot.
Glad to hear it was entertaining and informative! Feel free to pass it along, it helps the channel a ton

Hello?
“By the Power of Greyskull!!…… I have the Powerrrrrr”
It’s all so simple now
@@spectorcreative1872 Lmfaoooo. Glad I could help.
It has gained more over time in all fairness!
Mind blown 🤯 thanks for this video
