JCB Teleskid or John Deere 270?

- Which one? 2019 JCB Teleskid or a 2003 John Deere 270? Obviously comparing these two isn't really fair with 16 more years of innovation being on JBS's side. So with that in mind this look into the differences between the two machines is purely on function and capability.
Special thanks to JCB & Torgersons for this opportunity to run this Teleskid.

JCB are good because they’ve had years of experience in the telehandeler industry which a lot of the designs are transferable
We have a bobcat S175. I believe that we bought it brand new in 2004 or 2005. I would for sure go with tracks instead of wheels
IDK if anyone else has said this and I am going to send feedback to JCB as well, but for the right sides blindside could have a small camera and monitor installed for safety compliance. Wouldn't be much of a cost compared to someone's life or well being.
It could blink on when the boom covers the view on the right and turn back off when the boom is low or high enough to give the viewable area back to the operator.
Love your videos and love your map on farming simulator 19
Great review!
JCB Builds some great machines an you are correct they are definitely within the ballpark range we have had case, John Deere and JCB back holes.. I'm sorry to put it this way but you got the Chevy the Ford and the Cadillac.. JCB would be the Cadillac overall. Fact we totally wore out 1 JCB an we replaced it with another one identical. Dozers? Definitely a Cat like the salesman told me once you run a Cat you'll never go back. That's why the Cat will stay till I am gone. Skid steers? We had case ,JD , Bob cat .. we looked at a JCB but like you $$$$ talk an another Factor was parts and service... Bobcat is 30 minutes from the farm JCB it's three hours one way. As you well know , when a machine breaks down you need it back up right away not 2 days from now . So when we went to replace the skid steer the fourth one we went back to bobcat .Brother wanted to go JCB an I would have loved to but there's only so many dollars income a year. Personally I really like the one-arm coz let's face it you're in and out of a skid steer a thousand times a day But I do have one question though.. I know they off setted the cab to keep the boom weight more towards the center of gravity of the machine how ever my question is when carrying a "heavy" load say 3 feet off the ground do you notice any say weight shift to the right side of the machine drive tires??? also? In slippery muddy conditions, does the machine want to tend to lead to the right? .but overall?? I can see the JBC setting in my driveway over the bobcat. But I'm your dad's age an I still love the mechanical linkage for tedious fine work.. but thanks for a great unbiased comparison...(edit.) as a side note? On the Deere fine tweak the pump timing . We have found that to solve a lot of hard winter starts engine's ;-)
Thanks Joe 👍
Cat 259D here....In all truthfulness, this really shouldnt have been a comparison video...there really isnt a comparison between the two based solely on age. Outside of the tele portion, if you had a new Deere/Cat/Bobcat/Case/etc....the comparison would have been VERY similar
There always pros and cons, just can't have it all right?
Has anyone use or consider loader (non-steer) tractor(s)? Most newer model comes with changeable loader, plus it has 3pt and PTO uses. I just find that non-steer tractor has more functions, visibility, and stable.
The telescoping arm is one of those things you didn't know you needed but once you have it you never want to give it up
👌🏼👌🏼
I bet I have the room in our haybarn but just don't have the lift I can only stack 4 bales high and the 4 th bale is eased up there barely but I lift heavy items so I just don't know how it would measure to that my Kubota track machine is always loaded heavy on hills and uneven ground it gets off balance from time to time if you know what your doing you can just keep going and ease it back down without ever checking up
Nailed it
I noticed the same
They dont offer the telescoping arm here in Australia as yet so our machine does not have it but would be a great asset i think
I love my Welker farm videos and my coffee in the morning, thanks to all your family effort

Hey im from finland
Isä rikko startin jontikasta valtra power!
Went to my local JCB Dealer today to arrange a demo of the Teleskid because of your videos of the machine. The room in the cab and cad access is second to none. My brother who is quite large (6'8" 350lbs) can actually get in and out of the cab, which he cannot fit in any other Skidsteer he tried.
That's more like mammoth, way way past large haha
6,8 350lbs is more than “quite large” 😂😂😂
It's an easy fix, regarding visibility- just mount LCD on that boom, and camera on other side of it. It should work perfectly!
just commented above on this thought :)
Lol
Lol
I'm guessing with the proliferation of 360* cameras on automobiles, your exact remedy will soon be a "standard" on these machines.
I was going to say the exact same thing. Surprised JCB missed this. For me it would be a safety issue.
i have a 2011 bobcat s160. its simple but a workhorse. you see bobcat about 10 to 1 over other brands on construction sites around here.
That left armrest has two positions for the little gas strut. Yours is in the shorter one. If you change it, the arm will swing up until the joystick his the back window. 4 Phillips screws and a 13mm open-end wrench will do it.
Before you buy something, you owe it to yourself to demo a tracked machine..... I love tracks. Now, I'm not saying tracks are for you, but I'd definitely check it out, before I dropped that kinda cash....
Great video though. Very fair analysis...
Great reminder for everyone, too, in all situations... If you are on foot, in an area where machines are running around, keep your head on a swivel, and stay alert.... Expect the unexpected. The operator, is going to be thinking real hard about their load, and where they are going... It's just human nature... Sure, they are supposed to be watching, but hey... Don't be wandering that area on foot looking at your phone... Pay attention....
Patrick Morrissey True I would rather have a tracked machine any day!
Great to see one of the UK's finest companies represented all the way over there in Montana. Shame you didn't keep it, but I too have bills to pay. Luckily they are a heck of a lot smaller than yours!
Here in the UK we do make some good stuff
JCB: Lack of visibility with boom part way up: >> I'd put a camera on the back, outside area looking past the arm toward the right front. That way, you will have visibility using a monitor in the cab. AND, maybe a camera looking out back so you can see what's behind you, too. Just sayin …..
Just picked up a Kubota SVL90-2 on tracks after my Bobcat 873 on tires wasn’t getting things done around the farm in the mud during spring and fall land improvements.
Doesn't sound like too bad of a machine.😉
Paid for equipment is tough to beat. I think you made a great review and the correct business decision... Tough as it was.
always drive with load or no load, with the boom DOWN for maximum vicibilety. i can't understand farmers that drive tractors with the front loader hig in the air. its dumb
Because farms aren't nice and flat like warehouses or paved yards. The first time you slap the forks down into the ground or grab a forgotten about post stump you'll understand.
With 220K subscribers are growing, I'm surprised JCB wouldn't permanently "loan" you one of these. How many JCB Teleskids were sold because of this video review? How many more would be sold watching this machine in everyday use? If JCB is on their game and knows the power and reach of social media/RUclips, they'd forget to pick up this machine.
We wouldn't complain any 😁
I've been a huge fan of JCB products. That boom looks the same as the one they use on the Teletruck.
I currently drive a JCB 540-170 and love it.
then you've never had to fix it there junk and the idiots at JCB dont even know half the machiness and parts that go on it
The jcb backhoe I ran was a gutless turd compared to cat &case
They should pivot the left joystick console with the door.
You would have way more room to get in,and less parts to move to go in and out.
It's drive by wire,so it's relatively easy to do.
As an employee of JCB in the UK it’s great to hear such positive feedback about Teleskid. I’ve only recently discovered your channel after being a fan of How Farms Work for a while and set Ryan up with the demo Teleskid machine and I’m now loving your videos too. Especially the really big machines your run. Such a contrast to UK farming.
Do you hear complains about the blocking sight? Is a mirror required in UK?
Gerrit Stok Hi Gerrit. I have heard it mentioned a few times and it’s been fed back to the product teams for investigation. The other improvement would be to add a grill to the right side window to allow easier communication with anyone working alongside the machine. Obviously can’t be a window to avoid getting arms trapped by the boom.
Do not fire your brother and dad because work needs to get done and you are fulltime filmcrew😉 PS are you still gonna test livestream before harvest?
He already mentioned the ladies are to drive the combines!!
He probably will.
We are gonna start a go fund me for the welkers to buy a JCB
Cheap reversing camera set might help that blind spot if you needed?
Yeah the same type of wide angle wireless camera you'd put on the end of a combine or grain cart auger and just mount it to the side of the boom. Thats a pretty awesome idea.
We have a 2011 John Deere 323D skid steer. It’s a track machine with foot controls. Yesterday I was driving it down the road and was turning into the driveway and heard a pop and lost steering on the left side. Next thing I know theres hydraulic oil all over the highway and then the tracks locked up. Got halfway off the highway. Luckily we have a D6 dozer and we used it to pull it off the highway. It was a mess.
That's a nice JCB, tractor. I can understand there are way more priorities before buying this. Keep up the great videos Nick.
I didn't see one jcb tractor in this entire video, am I missing something? I saw a well built Deere skid steer and a jcb teleskid.
that is a very fair point, you always need to have your priorities straight with purchasing on a farm, and not being able to get everything you want is part of adulting, and yes, it does suck
@@Alejandro-vb2fx Really?? You wasted your time with that? OK then a JCB Machine, sorry I didnt give it the technical name of teleskid. GOODNESS! No wonder there are so many slip and fall lawyers, to handle people like you.
When I was shopping for a skid loader, I was focused on Bobcat, back in my day. I tried the 743, but it really felt lacking and I didn't like that it was all it could do to load a 15 yd. dump truck. I then tried the 7753 and it was night and day for me. High lift arms made side-loading the large trucks a lot easier and it had a wider stance. I had a 72" bucket with removable tooth bar, forks and a landscaper attachment. That there was an amazing implement! This was back in the early 90s and I bought the 7753, used, with 1400 hours on it and immediately put new tires on it and then had them solid rubber filled. At $100 per tire, that was a major money saver when working around thorny trees or demolition duty on jobsites. I would get my job done and come away from the site with my tires looking like a porcupine - but obviously NO flats! It's no fun having a flat and paying for a service truck and the down time. Rubber-filled was definitely the way to go for me.
We have a 743 kitty here that we use fairly regularly.. it's a clapped out pile of crap now but it's still working!!!
How Farms works wants to race their demo teleskid tracked unit against your demo wheeled model lol smh ROTF lmao
Thanx from the left coast near the Krapitol of California
Good
I do love how you mentioned some of the things that you need to think about when running the JCB, could be considered drawbacks, or just unavoidable consequences of going with that design!! its very helpful to know in advance what your gonna need to think about
A lot of positive remarks from folks that have purchased the JCB, good machines but like you said these type of machines are very expensive $$$$$
I was gonna say for that style of Cab I wanna say Volvo started using those as well I think a little while back, you might be able to find some of those maybe cheaper used, but I don't think there's anything else with the extendable boom
Great review. I learned a lot. THANKS!

In the UK, skid steers aren't used much if at all. Farms and building sites use telehandlers like the JCB Loadall.
www.jcb.com/en-gb/products/telescopic-handlers/541-70-agri
If I owned the JCB Teleskid i would install a camera on the boom for visibility.
Yeah on ours we have have a camera mounted on the back of the boom and a screen inside but our camera swivels so it points in pretty much the same spot at all times. It just makes everything safer and easier
Jcb cold have placed a camera on the loader and a small screen in the cab so you can see an the other side
was thinking along that line....when the boom obstructs the drivers view, a camera mounted on outside of boom and a small monitor in the vicinity of where you'd be glancing would work nicely
2019 JCB has my vote, with regards to visibility out the right hand side, in reality you should not be driving around with the forks/bucket up in the air it needs to be like an inch or two off the ground then the boom won't be blocking the right hand side vision. At the start it seemed to me your lip movement to your words seems off? This video came up while I was playing Welker Farms map on FS19 :)
New Holland skid steer or a bobcat s750 are good and reliable
A small monitor with side mounted camera that comes on automatically when the boom is obstructing the view would solve that problem.
Running a CAT 272D love it
Controls very smooth!
“Once you go CAT you NEVER go back”
Cheers from BC Canada 🇨🇦
BTW watch every video of yours ,
Always look forward to next releases :)
There are issues with the jcb/ Volvo 1 arm skids with eating arm bushings and pins as the 1 boom isn’t as stable and walks its self out
Huge disadvantage
Could add a mirror on the front left, facing right so you could at least have a look beofore turning if there´s something there when the boom.
Other than that looks like someone really thought about how to build this thing right.
Some JCB have it
We just run John John Deere tractors that's all we're on we only use a bale spear
IMPORTANT: Just an economic heads up Nick. The farm debt has gone from $317 billion in 2009 to now $427 billion as of the end of 2018. Farm bankruptcies have gone from 360 filings in 2014 to now 500 filings as of the end of 2018. Banks are not lending to farmers and are calling in loans.
Jcb man. So much easier to see escpecialy when your using an auger to punch post holes all day
As a Brit, I would love a JCB teleskid, But I have been a Mustang 2044&44 pilot for twenty years, Its got American muscle and never let me down.
Teleskid has so much more operator comfort visability and reach capacity.. I'm a lifetime John Deere Guy and JD Skid steer is worth more than you paid for it.
I would keep both..
We have 2 new Holland's and a kubota... we have a new Holland L753 it's a 1995 very strong reliable machine... then we have I think it's a l232 it's a tracked new Holland... then we have a kubota SVL75 it's a wheeled machine runs good love the guitine door over the swing door its fast less touchy controls... main complaint is even with the enclosed cab it is unnecessarily loud inside
Mount a small screen on the right A-pillar and camera on the roof facing the same angle. That way you can see to the right even with the boom raised.
Simple, don’t get a bobcat, get a John Deere. John Deere lifts heavier than Bobcat. Simple. John Deere hire me
We've got a John Deere 328d that is awesome I have no complaints other that when it is in the field picking up large square bales the air conditioning tends to make it overheat
That JCB is a real leap in engineering and design! Thanks.
We bought our JCB teleskid new Last year from Reuters equipment in Elkhart Iowa what a lemon 🍋 never seen such a poorly designed terribly engineered skidsteer the rubber tracks have far too weak of a tension cylinder and constantly derail and come off and the lifetime warranty loader arm bent and they wouldn't warranty it bent so badly it has broken the window out of the cab twice
Love my ASV RC-50 but when it's time to upgrade the teleskid will be top of the list.
John Deere is hydraulic over hydraulic, Kubota skid loaders are hydraulic over hydraulic, Bobcat skid loaders are hydraulic over computer same with JCB skid loaders
I see you can't put over the tire tracks on the JCB either. I like the OtTT, best of both worlds.
Is this right? 3 different families on the same place? I love my family but could never live that close to them.
My parents have a 97 Bobcat 751 they bought new. For them on an acreage it works great. Even compared to your JD it would be hard comparing them. But very low hours on that one. Probably double+ to get one comparable to it now, and trade in would be low.
quick question. eney one play welkers farm on farming simulator 19
Yeah it’s a good map but if you play it on farm manager and start from scratch you can’t place anything where the buildings are supposed to go
Me, but not very often because i have a bad PC. With mods it runs at 11 FPS
It's truly a shame that you had to pass on the JCB but economics are economics. That being said, if I knew I wasn't going to be able to afford a purchase I would not invest the time & effort into something that I could not have. It leads to nothing but frustration for all parties and I, for one, am not willing to go through that.
Gehl rt175 is so helpful, we do a lot of hay and have a lot of cattle, it’s good for about everything thing we do
ive only ran a cat skidsteer and its like the john deere the jcb is better because the door is on the left side, i will say one thing when you compare cat and john deere , john deere is just junk their machines just fall apart and are underpowered ,
The side door is amazing. I hate crawling into the cab from the loader. It's annoying if you're doing anything other than plain excavating like land scaping .
If your machine does not have a drinking or smoking addiction and if it doesn't scream at you. You probably have the wrong machine
😁👍
The only problem with the JCB (and i know this for a fact, having seen ours nearly tip over a few weeks ago) is that despite their best efforts (there's some really clever engineering in that unit) it's skewed towards the arm side, in terms of weight or better said, balance. Makes our operator a bit nervous "walking" edges or moving stuff on inclined terrain.
We're prolly going to add a few weights on the other side.
Buy him some tacos.. operator is the counter weight
I've ran a Deere, Bobcat and a tracked Cat, and the Deere is noticeably louder than the Bobcats. The Bobcat A300 I ran was two seed, but it could switch steering modes. It could skid steer or four wheel steer which kept you from tearing up lawns or scuffing up fancy concrete sidewalks. Of the three the Bobcat was so much nicer and while the Cat was solid, it was a single speed and slower than any of the others even if they were in slow speed.
The thing that makes them so pricey is they can replace a dozen or more dedicated machines for small jobs. They pretty much make an attachment to do nearly anything. The company building our new shop used a big tracked Bobcat with a road grader attachment and graded the gravel inside the building's foundation after the steel supports and roof had gone up. That zero turn radius just makes them so much better in confined spaces.
Have you thought about trying a newer bobcat? The specs are very similar to the teleskid.
Layton Anderson, they are not very reliable. I would get an older bobcat skid loader.
@@auston_grisham7840 I've had mine for over 3 years and have had 0 problems what so ever so maybe I'm just lucky or they are reliable after all.

We run a 326D Deere. It has been a very good machine for us. The worst problem we have had is the front quick tach plate was too light and bent which also took the electric actuator out too. $3000 later it was fixed.
Comparing these two units is like comparing apples to hand grenades. The only bad thing about the JCB is that it cost an arm and a leg.
Or it cost some leg arms
Great video, I always look forward to Wednesday and Saturday for videos. Nice fair comparison of the two machines. Good job on firing Leg Arms! Can't believe you're already over 220k subs, maybe 300k for Christmas! God Bless!
only make left turns with the jcb. that's how my wife drives her car.
Is she a NASCAR driver?!?
Wish I could afford a new machine. Would definitely want a teleskid. So much safer. I think JCB might have got there moneys worth out of lending the machine.
Not to be apart of the H&S brigade :P But... do be careful walking under those Skid steer booms, there was a sad case in Scotland not too long ago, of a Recycling worker crushed to death when the hydraulics failed and the bucket and boom hit him, 38 years old with two kids and a wife #safetyfirst
So sad 😔 that is tragic!
That’s why modern machines have a boom strut to catch the boom if something happens with the hydraulics the boom strut will prevent the boom from the crushing the operator. If the boom strut if damaged it can be replaced your life can’t. #safetyfirst
Do you remember John Deere and we used bucket more than we do the Bale spear
Idea on the "blind spot" when the boom is up blocking the operator's view' install a camera system on the A Pillar on that side of the cab with a forward, backward, and side view.......
Shame on you, Nick! You should have compared a 2019 John Deere version to that JCB.- would have been a much more interesting test. (Then keep both and sell the old JD to Andrew Camarato to refurbish and use for another 50 years.)
2019 Deere would make that teleskid look like a toy.
Richard Tickle still unsafe and not the same reach or height
John Graham what’s unsafe
Chris Spence the entrance if you have it up and the other things he goes through in the video
We run a 2000 gehl sl4635 skid steer but here in ohio we call them skidloaders and I would prefer the jcb teleskid even though I am all about john deere
JCB is junk

@@niickogrant2375 Yes they are I love them. Best A/C I've felt in a skid steer.
Install a side view camera on the JCB and fix the blind spot. That could be a big save one day. 🖒
The Teleskid is amazing.
We have 2 jcb sellick fork lifts (same boom design) at work and the you use the telescopic boom more than you would think
we have had a kubota svl 75 for 4 years it has about 2000 hours on it. no complaints or promblems with it.
I like the the Kubotas still use full hydraulic controls. I've never used a machine with fly by wire hydraulic controls, but nearly everyone I talk to who has mentions that it takes a long time to get used to it and is never as precise.
it might not be as precise but kubota will last longer than most machines and is more practical when being worked on.
Would love to have a skid steer, but we just don't have enough use for one. We have a 5085E with pallet forks we use to pick up pallets. Every couple weeks we bring in a ton of cattle feed and have no problem picking it up. It is a two person job though, because the visibility is not very good on the loader. The only piece of construction equipment on our farm is a John Deere 17G excavator. We use it for digging trenches, ditches, leveling ground, putting in culverts. Man it is a great machine.
Checked prices, he wasent kidding when he said it was a expensive machine
Ya like only 60-90k
Not a horrible price compared to most skidsteers now days.
You can almost buy a real telehandler for 90k
boer brabant and a big skidsteer will be 90000 to 115000

See if they'll lend you guys a Fastrac.
I’ve ran a bobcat s770 i love the iso controls on it and love how the drive and steering is with my left hand and everything else is with my right it makes a difference as an operator when you have to be technical with your machine wish I had the chance to operate a jcb it wouldn’t be nice for snow plowing
