How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a RUclips channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

Great to meet you yesterday, Ryan ... despite the early hour and the I'm-not-in-Savannah-anymore temperature. And great to see that you seem to be enjoying the machine. I just wanted to jump in real quick to correct a quick point for your viewers. At 4:15 I meant to say the machine has a ROC with the boom retracted of about 3,600 lb (and about 2,300 lb with the boom fully extended). I'm enjoying reading everyone's comments. Talk to you soon. -Ashby

I'm from the UK and so have driven a lots of JCB products over the years on construction sites, mainly Back Hoe type machines and 360 deg turn excavators. JCB continue to improve and expand the product range, and move into other markets as in your case farming, there range of fast trac tractors are seen zooming through the lanes hauling all types of trailers at a fast speed. Doing away with trucks and trailers.
The last machine I drove had a electric kettle for hot tea & coffee, though I did hear Health & Safety wanted them banned. The nanny state.
Near Rochester in Kent there's even a Thyme Park dedicated to JCB run by a JCB Dealership, young kids can get the feel of driving an excavator and the parents seem to have as much fun as the kids. There also a formation team doing displays with the Back Hoes, Telly handlers etc. as near a dance as they can make it.

Just a word of advise Ryan for the tracks, really read the manual and check online as well but make sure to keep an eye on that track tension and make sure to add it to your inspections list because it's easier than you think to walk your track off and believe me unlike metal tracks where you can just break track and redo it rubber tracks can be a right pain to get back on the rollers just something to keep in mind.

    • @KJ-kw7gh
      @KJ-kw7gh 5 лет назад +2

One of the great things about the JCB. They have twin guide rollers forward and rear. Keeps the track on better than any other system. He still should keep an eye on it, but it's a little more forgiving.

PRO TIP: If the dealer didn't do so already, in your H-Pattern/SAE control selection, start your operational usage out with T (Travel reaction speed) and L (Loader reaction speed) in 1-1 then play around with the speeds later.
A lot of people find the electro-over hydraulic controls "jumpy" till they get used to the feeling in the sticks. I assume since you are going to run the H-pattern since you run bobcat, but get used to the stick reaction speed first and go from there. The confidence level will go up quickly

Neat little machine, don't think it'll dominate skid steer design, but I definitely think it will carve out a niche in the market targeting folks who don't need sheer hydraulic horsepower and maximum digging potential. For a farm operation this thing seems especially well suited. It really is a cool hybrid between a telehandler and skid steer.

You can always tell bobcat operators. They always run the machine wide open. Wait till you get used to the controls and start using the foot feed. Those things hold almost 30 gallons of fuel and if you're being conservative running the engine at lower RPMs and wrapping it up when you need the power you will get days before you have to fuel. I bought a demo and really enjoy it

Being from South Carolina, I’ve driven by the JCB plant in Georgia a few times. I’ve never ran one of those skid steers but it looks pretty nice! I’m sure it’ll be nice to have on the farm for the next month and maybe it won’t ever get to leave lol.

Nice machine, lots of cool features, and a good quick run through of the controls from the factory rep. That also looks like a beast of a machine. Good luck with the machine.

Right on ! I know it's prob like 3 times your 30g budget but they prob have a good finance program . Good advertisement for them too !
We had a GEHL 8000 lb telehandler for a while it could do amazing things. You got the best of 3 worlds here , loader, telehandler and tracks. Your pops will love the easy side entry so much he will not let it back to you lol. Snow clearing is great too cuz you can lift over an 8 ft fence and dump on the other side .
Looking forward to the next video 👍🏻

Awesome machine 👍 I wouldn't buy anything but a JCB, they are way better than all the other brands out there 👍 & you definitely want one with tracks on it... & Great video 😀

That is one fine piece of equipment. You aren't going to want to get rid of it. I bet you end up buying one now. Probebly would be a good investment. Keep up the good work and in look forward to seeing the next one.

Ryan, I know you are in the skid loader search, I have found a JD 4960 here in central WI at B&B equipment if interested, and yes they have a website. Great video and intriguing of this machine, a lot better than jumping in the cab from the front.

The pallet fork attachment is made in a small town about 5 miles north of my home. Have fun and be safe with the new skid loader

With all that machine has on it I was shocked that she did not say it ran its self after reading your thoughts. LOL Very Cool machine that would be on the farm for your grand kids to use.
