I SHOT A WOLF! (Self-Filmed)

  • I shot a wolf! Last season I was out deer hunting by myself looking for whitetail does. I had access to a piece of private land surrounded by public federal and state land. I had to film it on my cell-phone, since the crew let me go hunting by myself which is a rarity these days.
    While glassing for does I spotted a wolf. I had been wolf hunting before but it was always the guest hunter who got to shoot. So finally I had my chance on taking a wolf for myself. I waited for him to come into range and let out a shot.

    Many are asking about the meat. I hauled it home, cleaned it up, and it is still in my freezer pending a vote of confidence that eating wolf does not carry the disease risk so commonly mentioned. I have opinions from wildlife disease ecologists and they so far have been what I would call "luke warm" to the idea. If I can get more confidence that the disease risk is low, we will eat it. Would you eat wolf meat if you knew the disease risk was low?

    I am truly amazed at the enjoyment you get out of walking onto a pristine piece of land and "basically killing everything in sight" . . . and the "happiness and joy" you display as a result of your CONQUESTS? is evident . . . you must be soooo proud! . . . perhaps you could visit elementary schools in the area and present a program as to why it is necessary, beneficial and important, if given the chance, to kill as many wild animals as possible on a single outing and the "self-fullfillment and sense of achievement" it brings about in one's own self . . . you are amazing!!!

He's not some mindless trigger puller and he has done more for conservation and protection of wildlife habitat than any person you will ever meet. @W M I've been a keen observer of the wolf re-introduction project in Yellowstone National Park since it started in 1995. I knew in 2001 when the Druid Peak Pack reached 37 in number, which, at that time, was the largest single wolf pack documented in history, that their proliferation would be a problem outside the park but in the greater Yellowstone area. I wanted to watch ONE video of a person hunting a wolf . . . WHY??? . . . to see what their motivation and MINDSET was ln killing the animal . . . I think it was candidly revealed in the video . . . his response to the kill was one of GLEEFULL GIDDINESS AND TOTAL IMMATURITY . . . what a joke to put this individual on a pedestal

    • @garybromberger4044
      @garybromberger4044 3 года назад

      @W MI believe a rancher has the right to kill a wolf if it is affecting his herd. Was the wolf on this PRIVATE PROPERTY affecting the livelihood of this specific property owner? Maybe it was, it wasn't clear in the video. What was very clear was the immaturity (giddiness, child-like reaction, being flustered and "choking" when the opportunity presented itself) . . . are these the traits of a PROFESSIONAL hunter??? . . . are these the same traits exhibited by professional conservation agents when they are summoned to a rancher's property to take down and remove a predator that is causing harm specifically to their herd??? . . . I don't think so

    Never leave the meat. Trim all the fat off so it's nice and lean (not that there'll be much fat in the first place), cube it up into about one inch cubes, cook it in a steam pot (you can boil it as well if you don't have a steam pot) until it's nice and tender, and then give it to your dog(s) lol

    Randy, you have been most gracious answering my questions on your youtube channel. Which is cool. Not too many dudes that run a successful channel reply. However, after watching this vid...i have another. Its great to see that a wolf met his demise. They are almost as out of control as the griz. To see you bag up his meat caught me off guard. I guess it runs the same as lions, but IDK. Did you eat some wolf steaks? if so what was it like and how did it taste?

      We've heard from some disease ecologist since we edited this video. We will be eating it in the coming month and taking the precautions they suggest. Will film it and have a report at that time.

    Congrats! Over the years Ive often experienced the best success and most enjoyable surprises on days when I least expected to-, or wanted to be out there. Not one day away from the woods measures up to the any day in the woods. That is a beautiful wolf, I am anxious to see what you cook up with the meat. To be honest, I hadn't considered eating one. No reason other than I hadn't viewed a wolf as a food source.

    That was great! Your excitement is infectious... Many said it before me but, when you're not excited about a hunt then it's time to get a new passion. Looks like we'll be seeing Randy Newberg for a while. Congrats on the wolf! You'll have to show us how to prepare it. Thanks to the crew for talking you into sharing.

    Humm.. I was not aware that you could eat wolf !!! Great video !! I like that you show it as it happens and don’t try to hide the mistakes such as cranking a shell in the chamber!!

    Thanks for sharing Randy! Let me say this, 2 people have inspired me to be a hunter and especially hunt the west: Jack O’Conner and Randy Newberg! Thank you Randy for always being completely honest about the public/private land thing. And I don’t blame you at all for hunting on private land when you had the chance. I’m happy for you that had the chance to. I’m happy for you had the chance to hunt on your own and to bag one of these magnificent critters! This is probably my favorite Randy Newberg Video ever along with the one where you when went after the Dall sheep in Alaska! Congratulations!

    Sounds like he’s trying to convince the antis that he’s actually going to eat the wolf. I call BS on that one! I kind of get tired of tip-toeing around the wolf issue, we should be unapologetic about our hatred and disdain for them.

    You should do an episode on how to sign up, process, and be reimbursed(bounty) for shooting a wolf through the foundation for wildlife management Idaho. Lots of people want to do it but cant figure out the process.
