    Lifelong Giants fan and a working professional with executive leadership training. All I can say, and it pains me to do so, is that this is a damning state of current affairs on the Giants organization. It saddens me that it has got so bad that our former GM, who was the architect behind three World Series champions teams, doesn't root for the Giants.

    Sabean did a great job picking the Managers. Even Felipe Alou was a lot better choice than Kapler. I never thought Kapler was the right hire. Zaidi has completely botched his opportunity, but the Giants' front office apparently needs to see a few more disastrous seasons before they start thinking about moving on from him.

      2 months later and this comment is a huge understatement. Meaning there are no words to describe how badly Baseball has been handled by this Money Man Ownership group.
      The First thing is to fire Zaidi and hire a real Baseball Man to re-build our team. Short of a "dirt of the basepaths and green grass stain" guy filling in the spread sheet cells, we're nothing than the ineffective robot product as long as we are a strictly first and last a numbers organization.
      Pitchers and Catchers report in 2 weeks and we've got more competent Catchers than we do Pitchers.
      Sign as many pitchers as you can, Build a 1-5 Rotation and a 6 seat Bullpen. NOW! We've got the bats. Stop platooning seasoned pros! place Major League hitters at the 7 positions. Reinforce the good skills behind the plate. Build a line-up, prioritize the subs, and let 'em PLAY! It would be a plus to hire a Pitching Coach.

    You know its funny, of all the major professional sports, baseball was the one that dived in COMPLETELY into analytics, while casting asside the old guard, or 'wisdom' as Ned Colletti mentioned. And the irony of it is, it is maybe the one popular sport that does better when they apply old school knowledge and teaching rather than the new school approach.
    I'll just give one example. A long time ago, before the days of shifts or exaggerated shifts, each player studied their opponents and knew to cheat towards the line, off the line, or if you were an outfielder, you played in against certain guys, and back towards the track against others. Willie Mays was such an astute player that he routinely took hits away from guys, or extra bases, not only due to his immense speed and skill as an outfielder, but because he knew each guy's tendencies.
    You then fast forward 55-60 years into the future from Willie's time, and all of the sudden front offices thought it was easier, or better, to let computer generated tendencies dictate what players had already been doing INSTINCTUALLY for over 120 years... Now, with all the rule changes, they are realizing that if they automate these human players themselves to all play the exact same way, that the product diminishes severely because of it, and even worse, you diminish these talented young ballplayers from having to learn all those tendencies themselves, and play instinctually, aggressively.

    I will forever be thankful for those 3 WS, I never thought they would come. I, however, do not have agreat nostalgia for Sabean.....at all, nor his successor when he got bumped up. Sabean was in charge for a looooong time and made a ton of mistakes and basically shit on the farm system and signed a bunch of middling dudes when he had the most destructive hitter the world has known. Then he gets some help in the front office scouting department and they finally draft well for about 4 or 5 years. Build a team that's good not great, but at the helm is a post season magician and they persevere and win those 3 WS. The fact they were a 500 or lower team the years between those WS victories shows you they were not a great team. The problem is after 2014 they kept trying to throw whatever they could at the roster and signed no significant players or drafted and developed significant players. So now you get the malaise the franchise is in right now. The folks in charge now are no better and they have actually made the Giants unwatchable and hard to root for. I've been a fan since the mid 70's, so I've seen a lot nnnm of bad baseball, but how I feel about them now is......😬
    Bochy is the only dude I miss, even though he always had a hard time playing the young dudes. He has that post-season unflappable magic in him, go Rangers!!!!

    It's just really sad, even more the LOST OPPORTUNITY for the Giants than the shabby way Bochy was treated.
    Every athlete who's played team sports and anyone who has ever coached KNOWS there are just certain coaches with an intangible gift motivating others. And there are a few generational, elite talents with those special qualities, like Bruce Bochy. There are plenty of pro teams that based on the numbers and talent should have won it all but never did (prime example: '70s Vikings). Then there are "lesser" teams--at least one, maybe two of the Giants' championship teams included--that weren't even close to the best team by stats or in-season performance, but won it all thanks to amazing coaching skills in motivating men. Terribly happy for this great leader!

  • @Ron2Tani
    @Ron2Tani Год назад +1

    Man, this is sad. It makes me feel there will never be a winning team in San Francisco again. It’s hard to build a winner. We’re all asking why did the Giants, Farhan Zaidi particularly, hire Gabe Kapler? What was the appeal? Who was excited to see Kapler come on board? What I see in the Giants today are those old losing Giant teams where they missed on their free agent signings and the inability to develop minor league players. I can see Farhan dealing the better prospects for used up, tired veterans. This is sad all the way around. I don’t believe whomever they sign to manage is going to turn this analytical-platooning-bullpen nonsense around. This is the new age of baseball. There must of been something wrong with the old ways.

    Mauricio Dubon epitomizes for me the stupidity of the San Francisco Giants under the "leadership" of Farhan Zaidi and Gabe Kapler. He gets traded because his options were up, like he really deserved to be yo-yoed back and forth to Sacramento anymore, as in 2021? Like hitting a homer off Kershaw and playing consistently good ball wasn't enough? Zaidi lost me with that stupid trade. I knew then that he was a good for nothing waste of time of a GM or whatever title he names for himself. Good riddance to him. Posey, get him fired!
