    This is actually what they do to build a nest......not give themselves a long tail. They stick grass, or paper here, in the tail, to carry it back to where they are building the nest. Great video!!! Adorable Peach-Faced Lovebird!!!!!

  • @inesgrou3712
    @inesgrou3712 10 лет назад +84

    No, the bird is not trying to have a longer tail. I own some of these birds and they usually do that with pieces of palmtrees' leaves so they can travel to other place and use those pieces to build their nest. So, this is not a matter of the lovebird trying to make itself "prettier" by adding those pieces of paper, it's just its nature --> builing a nest so they can reproduce.

      This is called 'anting' a behavior evolved by wild parrots where they put things often ants, under their feathers to rid them of parasites. In captivity birds seem to do it just for fun. It's not a nesting or hormonal behavior.

    This is just amazing…this birdy wants a more elegant tail! So he/she gave himself/herself extensions…I wonder if all birds feel this way, or only certain breeds.
    We have a green-cheeped conure, two cocktails, an African Grey and a Cockatoo. Our Cockatoo is obsessed with staples and alway's tries to tuck them into his legs. We can only assume he wants a metal bracelet ( like the identification bracelets our other birds have) or that he wants to be a proper gentleman and make himself a pair of cufflinks! I will have to video tape it! Thanks for sharing this incredibly video.

    This is a natural behaviour of African Love Birds. She is going to build nest. Instead of papers, give her fresh long plant leaves. If she has a box, she will build nest inside. Sometimes they munch or chew these leaves like bubble gum into small pieces. So, these papers might be harmful to their health if digested.
