What a beautiful human being. I didn’t have one negative thought for one hour. In 2024 that is a hard thing to do. The idea of him no longer being here stings a bit.
Gar(r)y! Maybe that was the cause of Marc’s death? Yes Marc, you are dead. Good enough reason for me. Did I just hear Marc plug BJ Novak? WTF? Indeed, Marc, WTF?!!! I’m commenting in 2023 and thoroughly confused. Then I remember that Maron has been dead for many years. Ok.
Garry Shandling is the result of a guy whose smart enough to be an engineer choosing to tell dick jokes on stage and TV instead. His comedy was just smarter than everybody else's but when he was coming up people forget how cutthroat the business was back then and you had to be tough to make it, and trust was a big thing for Garry and the one person he should have been able to rely on completely screwed him over to focus on younger clients The Larry Sanders Show is still my favourite satire of all time, watching it in the UK in the 90's was like watching something so advanced in terms of humour and character study, gave me a completely different slant on what's funny. Thank you Garry wherever you are
that's nice writing on Shandling. I only knew him from talk shows and some stand up years ago. I didn't have cable, so hadn't seen either of his shows. Now I have
Listening to his full open and comfortable explanations and analyzation‘s of how he looked at humor. He was always thinking. Always seeing the comedy in everything which is genius as well as sort of Divine.
As someone else posted, Larry Sanders was the best sitcom ever, so brilliant, funny, unique. Maron brings out Garry better than most any interview I've heard. But darn, now I have to spend all these hours catching up on other WTF podcasts
I love Garry so much, him, Roseanne, Paul Mooney, George Carlin, Chris Rock etc.. raised me as a child. As sad as that might be when the adults around me was not there thease guys always were. Side splittlng laughter and a warm feel. He is missed by so many. I would say life is cruel but life was good to Garry he was just too hard on himself. Loosing his brother must of been so tough on him thought. Hope you are safe and well.
Their talk is about avoiding the truth that humans are at best an inappropriate species for earth and have never found a path that is not a earth and self destructive dead end. Shandling lived his integrity to the end. So very few do.
Yes Shandling was a genuine innovator for 'It's Garry Shandling's Show', such sweet deconstruct of sitcom tropes. Was genuinely upset by his too early death, watch his statements on talk shows, he was a genuine humanitarian. He genuinely loved humanity and people. Loved 'Larry sanders Show' too, although it has honestly dated terribly in too few years. I like him and I feel that many people do, a good man , ultimately
David Hinnebusch 0 seconds ago Hey what’s the story of Garry’s co-creator on Larry Sanders? Dennis Klein.. thanks for this great interview just watched Judd Apatow’s amazing documentary! 🙏🙏🙏
Comedic genius Garry Shandling and our fearless host sit down to hash out life, culture, family, religion, politics and psychology quite brilliantly and funnily for 11 thousand listeners. Meanwhile, comedically anemic but good looking man, Chris Delia, poops on a shingle to a million listeners.
Can you make a version where you mute Marc Maron or edit his parts out? He really has a disgusting disposition in everything I've heard by him; I can't believe Garry even sat with him. True, Garry is often disgusted but NEVER disgusting. Big difference.
A longtime fan of Garry Shandling his comedy has really been a bright light through the years. These interviews are terrific I listen while I'm working with my hands as a Craftsman I really appreciate them it would be better if you guys stayed off politics unless you're willing to go to extreme lengths to cover both sides of all stories

It starts around 14:02.
THANK you.
☝🏼
Good lord i was about to say maron solipsistically rambling for 15 minutes wasnt worth the garry content
Marc's guest's name misspelled. Should be "Garry Shandling"
Ok.
He changed it to Shadling right before this interview.
This is not even Marc’s channel.
I miss Gary Shandling. what an amazing talent and thinker.
listening it to again after the original release years ago, all i can say is, what a mensch that Shandling was, I'm verklempt by the end of this!
I really could listen to Gary Shandling for hours.
"They say time doesn't exist, well then I don't know what I'm wasting."
greatest quote/joke of all time

❤️ I LOVE GARRY SHANDLING‼️ MISS HIM SO MUCH‼️ 💔🥀😪🙏😇💋🥰😘
Listening to his full open and comfortable explanations and analyzation‘s of how he looked at humor. He was always thinking. Always seeing the comedy in everything which is genius as well as sort of Divine.
A gem of an interview, top maron stuff for me... I've listened to it many times
I read once Gary wrote the BEST 'fake' suicide note to amuse his friend:
I'm not really mad at anybody, I just really needed to do this for myself
🤔🤣
What a talent and you can tell that marc respected him immensely 🙏❤️
Highly recommended: "The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling" a documentary film directed and produced by Judd Apatow, on DVD.
Also the Comedians in cars episode with Seinfeld
Garry Shandling breaks my heart.
He was perfection, wasn't he? He and Marc, both... Just wonderful... We miss you, Garry Shandling...
Holy....this is a great discussion..
I don't think Shandling ever had a conversation that wasn't great. I'm watching and listening to everything I can find and it's all gold.
As someone else posted, Larry Sanders was the best sitcom ever, so brilliant, funny, unique. Maron brings out Garry better than most any interview I've heard. But darn, now I have to spend all these hours catching up on other WTF podcasts
Correct 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

This is such a generous act. At some point we shall all be capable of things but we redeem ourselves by increments such as this.
I'll never understand why this sort of act of service towards one's fellow humans is never the top voted comment. You're a saint.
Interview starts at about 13:55. Typical Maron unfunny whining before that.
I gather that this interview aired on May 23, 2011.
38:13 Garry unfolds Zen to Marc...
I love Garry so much, him, Roseanne, Paul Mooney, George Carlin, Chris Rock etc.. raised me as a child. As sad as that might be when the adults around me was not there thease guys always were. Side splittlng laughter and a warm feel.

He just compared Marc’s mom to Lee Harvey Oswald that’s amazing
He’s so good Gary. Genius really glad to hear this.
Their talk is about avoiding the truth that humans are at best an inappropriate species for earth and have never found a path that is not a earth and self destructive dead end. Shandling lived his integrity to the end. So very few do.
Wow, Garry Shandling really did have all the answers.
Damn, WTF, I have stumbled into a goldmine! THANKS!
"An Addictive Culture Bottoming Out"
Gary was a mensch.
Loved Shandling. A well-read rebel and innovator. He might have turned into the next Carlin.

@PP Wieners Well said.
Now that's my idea of a hippy-dippy idea man The Great Gary Shandling
Why is this dated July24, 2017-Garry died in March of 2016. And for gods sake, fix the spelling of his name-it’s SHANDLING!!
You are mistaking the publish date with the date of the recording
I'm wondering if it's misspelled on purpose, so more folks can listen and it won't be pulled down?
Garry shandling was such a talent. He kind of had an attitude with Marc that was a bit interesting. Marc was a pro in this interview.
" The Truth is in the silence. "
Umm...you misspelled the guy's name.
Thanks for the latest revelation.
@therealnightwriter you're an idiot
Tonto Epstien!! Hahaha. Sounds like an old west equine disease.
"Oh man I'm bummed out, my horse has got a bad case of Tonto Epstein."
RIP Gary. America has finally bottomed out maybe
I was JUST thinking that... Here's hoping we have... And, we'll start the REALLY hard work to get better... Peace...
We must replace fear with love
MARC, How often did you talk w Gary ?
What a unique friendship to have!
He died in 2016, unfortunately. But maybe you know that already.

Head gear from my head to my knees.. Fucking brilliant 🤣😂🙏
14mins in for Gary

Thank you for saving part of my life!
Shandling. Not Shadlling.
It always helps to spell your guest's name correct in the title.
*correctly

The lack of attention to detail chaps my hide.
RIP Mr Shandling

Good old Gary Shadling
Up there with Nort McDonald as a personal favorite
This Gary Shadling guy is no way as good as Gary Shandling. I wish him luck.
*Garry! 😅
This rings so true now
Probably the best comedian of OUR GENERATION
Can you make a version where you mute Marc Maron or edit his parts out? He really has a disgusting disposition in everything I've heard by him; I can't believe Garry even sat with him. True, Garry is often disgusted but NEVER disgusting. Big difference.
Spell check on Gary's name.
Ditto
I know that if I like what you do.....you'll be a thing. you do what you do so well in my opinion.
Good IW.
GARRY SHANDLING. Show some damn respect and get his name correct.

Please do not monetize these
Shandling sorry ----
11 minutes into this and only gibberish.
I'd love a version with Maron edited out entirely 😂
Charlie Sheen beat the media at their own game. These two don't realize it.
Terrible interviewer. Talks too much. Never shuts up.
