we don't actually know. very likely yes but as it's made up bs by showrunners there is at least the possibility that this is another balrog that escaped from Angband at the end of the first age.. There could be as many as 4 not incl durin's bane hidden away after the war of wrath (although you would expect some perished during Morgoth's downfall). Tolkien specifically wrote that the balrog in the movie (Durin'a bane) was awoken by the dwarfs in the year 1980 of the 3rd age so either they are fucking with his work again or introducing a new balrog. Most likely first option as they have shown form... Def looks very similar as well...
The artist team really threw their all into this, the Balrog really does look stunning and vividly artistic! However, the Balrog from 23 years ago looks just photorealistic, like the creature was genuinely there, it was just top level perfection. RoP gets a strong A-, Fellowship did A++, both teams of artists did magnificent work rendering one of fantasy’s most nightmarish monsters.
@@SubZero101010 How can you even ask this with a straight face? The dialogue is bad, the acting is worse, but the worst part is the writing and the pacing problems. This is a TV show that goes over many episodes, so going in dept about characters, building characters shouldn't be an issue if you have read a BOOK. Characters teleport from one place to another without any explanation to why and how. Look at the 7th episode, Elrond teleported from Lindon to Khazad Dum and back to Eregion in under 20 minutes of the episode. We have no idea how far it is between regions. From just watching the show alone Mordor, Eregion, Khazad Dum etc. could be 15-20 kilometers apart. Other than that the characters don't act like they should be acting. Galadriel in first season especially acts like a teenager with bad manners, which well doesn't add up to her age. Galadriel is older than Elrond, Gil Galad, Celebrimbor and do you remember Cirdan who has a beard? He is so old that he has a beard, which is not common. Well he is not that much older then Galadriel. She is not just an elf, she is THE ELF, daughter of Finarfin, the king of the Noldor in Valinor. Had the showrunners actually read the books, they would have shown this, but they have created a mess. You can probably find a documentary on here if you are looking at specifics or just an all-round analysis about why this show is bad.
Anybody noticed that it’s Durin’s wife who save the show again… if it would not have been for her great wisdom, our King Idiot would have followed his dad against the Balrog.
So let me get this right, the dwarves didn’t know anything about the Balrog until late in the third age when they dug too deep and awoke it, yet here in the second age we have the King and his son meeting it 🤨
This is why we need a good adaptation from a book, Sometimes books tell you a Mountain and the adaptation gives you a 3D print of NFT Picture of a Mountain.
King Durin The IIIrd : Lvl 50, HP = 1613, ATK PWR = 128, DEF PWR = 89. Balrog of Khazad-dûm : Lvl 120, HP = 9 999 999, ATK PWR = 99 999, DEF PWR = 99 999. King Durin The IIIrd jumping towards the Balrog made perfect sense. He had a chance...
In the books and manuscripts it wasn't until the late 3rd age when the Balrog was awoken by the Dwarves of Kaza-dum and it was the Balrogs killing of Durin the 6th that it came to be known as Durin's Bane and Kaza-Dum became known as Moria.
I agree, yet the fact that Isildur is in the show from the first season, clearly says that the events and storyline is much more condensed. And personally, I don't have a problem with that.
If we follow the books, Sauron/Annatar would've had to spend 300 years in Eregion with Celebrimbor. It's not viable at all. Condensing the story makes much more sense.

Durin III apologising to his son, casting off the ring and sacrificing himself to seal the tunnel as the ultimate final act of love. A true king if I ever saw one. Long live the king
I saw a lot of comparisons with _Reign Of Fire_ , but that scene also reminded me of Jack Sparrow and the Kraken at the end of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest .

The best scene in the entire show. Reminds me of what PJ would do. the music, the effects and the acting. ALL A++++
so is this one the same one from lotr1 who got defeated by Gandalf?
yes
Durin's bane
we don't actually know. very likely yes but as it's made up bs by showrunners there is at least the possibility that this is another balrog that escaped from Angband at the end of the first age..
He seems to have been slimmer then as a balrog. He had jacked up a bit by the time he met gandalf😂
Don't forget Durins Bane also defeated Gandalf
Even though the series is ass, this scene in my opinion makes everything worth while. I LOVE the balrog and the way he vaporized king durin is insane.
Balrog Hasn't Changed At All Since Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring Happen
This is a prequel you idiot
Balrog: has a whip
Baby Elrond: “a bit kinky..”
Cant stop laughing at the title, it just a Dwarf. A kingly one at that.
Yeh so thats where the 700 million went on making the scenery look good whilst all else fails 😅😅😅

The show is bad very bad but balrog they copied from Peter Jackson film
the darkness of Khazad-dum... shadow and flame
Aaaaaand with one scene, this show will win the best VFX emmy.
As it should. Not just this scene though.
There were at least 3-4 great "one-take" sequences that probably took a lot more work than this.
Anybody noticed that it’s Durin’s wife who save the show again… if it would not have been for her great wisdom, our King Idiot would have followed his dad against the Balrog.
This is woke shit
So let me get this right, the dwarves didn’t know anything about the Balrog until late in the third age when they dug too deep and awoke it, yet here in the second age we have the King and his son meeting it 🤨
Yip. No one told Durin VI about the fiery beastie lurking at the bottom of his garden for 2 or 3 millennia.

This scene is up there with the raddest deaths in the history of film, let alone TV.

And I definitely loved what they've done with the dwarves and was very thrilled that they included the Balrog. 😊

Member berries. Nothing but member berries.
Not really. They've been building a whole arc with Durin and his father which this is the conclusion of. Durin III apologising to his son, casting off the ring and sacrificing himself to seal the tunnel as the ultimate final act of love. Its a beautifully executed moment IMO and one that matters and lands because of how much time the show has spent developing the relationship between Prince Durin and Durin III. Member berries is just empty cynical fanservice, this is fanservice that serves the story.
@@legofreak86Nah you're delusional my guy 😂 They totally drew from the Jackson films and have no original thought. They reflected Frodo being held back, they reflected Thorin and his regret for acting up and letting go of his greed. Literally just changed names, actors, and a few lines.
