Idk how to feel about an older Hal Jordan. Like I always wanted them for Hal, at least a bit younger but a vet, then bring in John (who is kinda around the same ish age but younger than Hal) and showing him the ropes. I know John is the fan favorite, but could we at least have Hal some love because he isn't. But i digress.
I like James Gunn and I support him in the new DCU but the series of Lanterns I think need to develop the Hal Jordan character and makes 4 or 5 movies with him. Also Lanterns has interesting characters and can do movies with John Steward, Laila, Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz
i’m excited to see what he brings, he’s a very solid actor. i don’t really care that they want an older Hal Jordan, i just want more Green Lantern content
I can see where you are coming from, but since John is still a well known character, and from the casting of "Superman" we can see that they haven't raced swapped anyone (from what I have seen) so I think it is a part of an actual vision for the universe and not just pandering.
Best case scenario is they make Hal the greatest GL that carries the first season on his back n becomes parallax in season 2 then becomes the spectre of the DCU onwards, gives respect to his character while sticking to source material n is a good excuse on why he’d stick around at an older age
Kyle Chandler is 59 years old and Nathan Fillion is 53 years old, so that means Hal Jordan is the first DCU Green Lantern. The only film that I can see Lanterns setting up with his terrifying mystery is Justice League Blackest Night and that would be DC Studios equivalent to Avengers Infinity War & Avengers Endgame, but before you can do Justice League Blackest Night Batman has to die, so the ending to DCU Chapter One Gods and Monsters will be Justice League Final Crisis and then DCU Chapter Two will end with Justice League Blackest Night. James Gunn even said this about Lanterns back during January 31, 2023 "In it, they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our larger story of the DCU." James Gunn didn't say that the "terrifying mystery" would end DCU Chapter One Gods and Monsters, James Gunn actually meant that it would continue through DCU Chapter One Gods and Monsters & DCU Chapter Two, that means Kyle Chandler actually does have a film he will come back for, that being Justice League Blackest Night but he will return as a Black Lantern, NOT a Green Lantern.
They're not ending chapter one with final crisis, I don't even think they'll introduce darkseid at all in the first chapter of their cinematic universe.
@@The.Usurper Yes they will end DCU Chapter One Gods and Monsters with Justice League Final Crisis. There is no other storylines besides the two I talked about, that fit James Gunn's plan.
I think chapter 1 is just like phase one of marvel. So they likely won't end the first phase with darkside, maybe someone more like reverse flash, amazo, or brainiac. Like how Loki is a Thor villain and was the enemy in the avengers movie.@@theorycraftingmachine2876
Is it impossible for the blackest night to be adapted without Batman dying and with another green lantern besides Hal? And if not, why? That is a genuine question I haven't read the comic.
James Gunn is CLEARLY going for an older Hal Jordan, a Hal Jordan that’s been Green Lantern for quite a while by the time Kal-El becomes Superman for the first time. And…if that’s what he’s going for, then okay…yeah, Kyle Chandler fits the part. It’s definitely better casting than Brolin, McConaughey, or McGregor
If he wanted an excuse to use an older green lantern he could’ve just used Alan Scott. No reason to give us an older Hal to start off a new universe but I digress
Alan Scott isn't a traditional green lantern. It doesn't make sense to have Alan Scott training John Stewart when their rings don't work the same.@@brucardi
I’ve seen people compare this to Hank Pym in Ant-Man where they clearly cast a much older actor for Hank so Scott Lang could be the main Ant-Man on the Avengers. It looks like they’re doing the same thing with Hal Jordan which is really unfortunate because you lose out on so many great Green Lantern stories if you just skip over Hal and go straight to John. It obviously looks like Gunn wants the Bruce Timm JL roster for his films. If you look at the other DC heroes showing up in the Superman movie most of them are played by older actors expect for Hawkgirl which makes me think she’ll stick around longer the others.
Well, James Gunn seems to be basing his universe off the 90s DC, and Hal was definitely close to 50 by those white stripes. I could see Parallax as the main villain, and possessing Hal Jordan….
Man this absolutely sucks F*ck Gunn F*ck DCU Hal Jordan is my favourite DC character. I was finally very excited when Lanterns was announced but DC is completely disrespecting him at this point He's such a good character. He's the best Lantern not John. He deserves his whole solo trilogy with an actor like Jensen Ackles, Chris Evans or Scott Eastwood Hal is way better than John Stewart and deserves to be the main lantern of DCU
@@eliteghost1001 exactly and this paedo Gunn isn't giving us one neither did Snyder Don't know wtf are they so obsessed with John who's nothing in front of Hal Jordan
@zeshanwattoo1046 actually I think Snyder had a plan for Hal and the lanterns but WB didnt allow it. Originally, John was supposed to show up at the end of Snyder Justice league. Now even though nothing was ever announced, I think there was supposed to be a Green Lantern movie set in the snyder verse because they had already drew up concept art for Hal and he was supposed to be the one leading the entire green lantern cor to fight darksied army in JL3.

I really appreciate that you mentioned your disappointments in a manner of what you rather have seen opposed to bashing the product. really classy approach, need more people like you! 100% agree with everything you said in this video. Usually I disagree with at least one or two things that YTers say in their videos regarding this type of news, but there wasn’t one thing I disagreed with here. I just hope it turns out for the best.
I think he’s 60 years old a veteran because I think somewhere weather in this show or along the DC animated series, TV shows and movies they are going to make Parallax take over and possess Hal and maybe James Gunn’s different take.
i feel greenlantern corp is one of underutilized franchise and which has high potential for a huge franchise with a lot of stories to tell, i mean it's a like a comic book star wars
This isn't going to be a young green lantern, Gunn doesn't do origin storys hopefully he won't die in the first few seconds But then again Kyle does look (with some makeup) looks really young like late thirties to early forties. P.S. Late thirties to early forties is young, anyways thats just my two cents. I'm pretty happy with the casting
Hal Jordan is my favorite superhero. While Kyle Chandler would have been a great choice 20 years ago, I am disappointed that James Gunn decided to cast older. My biggest concern is that they might kill off Hal at the end of the first season. Hal deserves better than that.
my perfect cast would be: David corenswet as superman ( at least this one is trully happening) Zane holtz as batman Katy o´brian as wonder woman alexander skarsgard as aquaman jensen ackles as green lantern harris dickinson as the flash
The 59 year old Chandler guy looks younger than Chris Pine does LOL! That guy must work out. 😉 I don't collect GL anymore, but after seeing all these videos about Lanterns, it makes me want to buy some LOL.
Funny thing with John being the lead instead of John Stewart, if Geoff Johns hadn't retconned Hal Jordan back to life, we could have had a John Stewart Renaissance instead and it's so nice to see the movies are finally doing just this. Like people forget before the Hal alive retcon him and Barry Allen where 10 to 15 years older than Bruce Wayne, and Clark Kent and, both had died, with there respective successors Wally West and Kyle Rayner being 10 to 15 years younger than Bruce and Clark. The early 2000s would have been the perfect time to reintroduce John Stewart instead of Hal with the success of the Justice League Unlimited cartoon. And John Stewart would have been the same age as Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent and would have shared some history with them due to the comic book event called Cosmic Odyssey. And you can/could have done anything with John Stewart, and really develop the character like make him a space engineer, give him a secret identity, new villains, new supporting cast, a better origin etc, all this could have happened if Geoff Johns hadn't retconned Hal instead...
If it was going to be set on earth they might as well do an adaptation of Hard Travelling Heroes. Also is John Stewart going to be taking Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner Stories? Also are we getting Beware my Power again?
Guys give it a chance. All might was in his 50’s and is one of the most exciting anime heroes. The “One more fight” storyline… can be very exciting. They can really draw it out too.
This universe is lowkey doomed. Why are we starting it with so much established lore that fans will have to make up in their heads rather than seeing it grow organically on screen like the MCU.
I wouldn't say it is doomed for starting out later. Everyone knows the origins for Batman and Superman, so we don't need those movies covering that. Plus, in shows like Young Justice they would intentionally skip ahead 5 years in between seasons so that they could set up questions for the viewers to ask from the beginning. And having the fans come up with their own head cannons until the answers are provided is a good way to build talk/buzz about the universe and their next movie as well as make people more intrigued. But that's just my opinion.
Hal Jordan needs to be in Multiple DCU movies similar to the comics that we saw Hal, John, Kyle, and Guy in The Sinestro Corps War and throughout The War of Light/Blackest Night.
He's older to show the history of the heroes of the Earth because the plot of Lanterns is going to revolve around the Black Lanterns. Hal and Jon facing off against revived Silver Age heroes.
I think this could be "legacy" series, true detective with sense of aged-up guardian now seeking successor. I think they should have done film first with John Steward solo Film and then series, but they mighty be combining it togheter as 2 in 1. Let's pray and hope for the best #DC
*KYLE CHANDLER:* -Bruce Baxter (KING KONG 2005) -Mark Russell (GODZILLA II KOTM, GOD vs KING) -HAL JORDAN (DCU) 🎬🗿👌🏿 *GODZILLA x KONG 🆚️ THE JUSTICE LEAGUE*
John Stewart’s awesome. But I want Hal to get a good live action adaptation first. I just hope that they blow me away with his character so much that I won’t mind him staying for 1 season
Guess I’m the only one happy because to me Jon Stewsrd is the lantern I wanted and 90% of people was saying The same thing before they learned about the lanterns show
Kyle Chandler is a solid choice for the role of Hal Jordan, even though the decision to cast an older actor may seem unexpected to some fans. His ability to bring charisma, authority, and a sense of experience fits the role of a seasoned hero. In this universe, Superman has been a protector for years, and it makes sense that Hal Jordan would also be a veteran hero who has seen and dealt with many events. The idea of an older Hal gives the impression that superheroes in this timeline have already gone through significant challenges, and the focus now is shifting to newer heroes like John Stewart. However, while John Stewart seems to be getting the main focus in this series, both John and Hal deserve equal attention. Hal Jordan is central to so much of the Green Lantern lore, and sidelining him or reducing his role is disappointing, especially for fans of the character. If the rumors about them taking Hal down the Parallax route and possibly turning him into a villain are true, it could hurt the legacy of Hal Jordan and the broader Green Lantern universe. Hal’s role in the Green Lantern mythos is too rich and important to be reduced to a tragic fall from grace. The Green Lantern lore has so much potential, just like Aquaman’s, and both deserve to have their full stories explored. If Hal’s story isn’t told properly in Lanterns, it will feel like a missed opportunity. There’s so much to dive into: his relationship with Carol Ferris, his rivalry with Sinestro, and his own journey as a hero. These key elements of his character shouldn’t be skipped over. Even if the current series focuses on an older Hal, there’s always the opportunity to explore a younger Hal in future prequels, which could give fans a deeper look into his relationships, including the complex dynamic with Carol and the philosophical clashes with Sinestro. If rumors about Melissa Benoist being cast as Star Sapphire/Carol Ferris are true, it would make even more sense to cast a younger Hal Jordan in the future to fully explore their relationship. The casting and storyline of Hal Jordan have so much potential, and it’s disappointing to see him sidelined or to see *Lanterns* focus more on terrestrial adventures rather than the cosmic scale that fans have been hoping for. Hal Jordan’s journey and development as a hero are essential to Green Lantern lore, and skipping over those important beats to jump to the end of his story is a missed opportunity. Overall, while Kyle Chandler may fit the current vision of an older Hal Jordan, it’s hard not to feel like fans are missing out on seeing Hal’s full journey and the rich storytelling opportunities that come with it.
There are plenty of storied where Hal is depicted as older and it's not like Green Lantern is a role that requires a ton of physicality anyway and i bet they just want to have him there but have room for our main justice league lantern be either John Stewart or Kyle Rainer
I started reading comics about the time Blackest Night started so I got into all the Green Lantern stuff during the Hal Jordan renaissance and I’m a big fan of his. But I’m not gonna sit hear and say that the eventual Green Lantern movie has to star Hal over John, Guy, or Kyle to be good. The other 3 are all capable of carrying a film so if Hal isn’t present much in this DC universe, so be it. I’m sure the movies will be rebooted and we’ll have another chance to see Hal star in a movie in a decade or two.
Here’s the thing man! You never know. Maybe Kyle Chandler does want to play this role for 10+ years. Like he’s almost 60, but he could pass for 50, even stretching 45. He’s aged really well. If he wants to play the role until he’s 70 and at that point he looks 55-60, absolutely king, go for it!
Speaking on Green Lantern, To those that know the character of guy gardner, Whats he like in the comic books? Im used to hal jordan and jon Stewart. What can we expect from him, personalty wise?
Kyle Chandler will become Hal Jordan the way Robert Downey Jr. became Tony Stark. Chandler is that good. The show-runners are right in introducing the Lantern Corps in 'True Detective' style, dark and gritty. Let our new John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) earn his way to Oa.
I dig this casting, but I only see him doing maybe 2 to 3 projects max, unless they just want an older Hal for a while I’m okay with it. There’s so many other interesting lantern characters that deserve a live action adaptation like John or even Kyle Rayner
What’s stopping them from telling any of these characters that’s stories are already unfolded in the dcu with prequel series/movies. Like I expect to very much see dicks story in full through the dcu even if he is nightwing already. We could see Hal’s green lantern story without being hampered by the other characters tying down the green lantern lore
I would’ve just casted Jensen made him older of course more seasoned and then eventually turn him into parallax down the road l. I’d give him a Anakin like role just more experienced and what not who eventually turns dark in chapter 4
I don't understand james gunn confirmed that the dcu will be more like star wars that it will be set in different timelines like some projects will be set in the past like paradise lost and the potentially justice society of america movie and the sergent rock movie and some will be set in the present it's that simple. They could introduce hal as a veteran in lanterns and then make a prequel movie/show about hal jordan about his origins and all so it's ok
What if Marvel couldn’t use Captain America, but they could use the Hulk. What I mean is that Universal owned the wrights to Captain America, and the MCU only had one Captain America movie, and Marvel owned the wrights to the Hulk and could give him a full trilogy. How would this change the MCU. Would Marvel have to decline Sony offering Spider-man to join the MCU because Captain America Civil War won't happen? Could we have She-Hulk, Red Hulk, the Leader in a Hulk sequel? Could we get an Ironman 4? Will Thor Ragnarok be any different? And most importantly? Will we even see The Falcon and Winter Soldier in the Infinity Saga? Please make this video.
They’re casting him old because they’re doing Parallax, and to use as an excuse to do movies in the past to explain more Lanterns lore so both Hal and Jon’s story can be told concurrently.
They made him that old because they plan to kill him off just like they did before in the most recent cartoon imagining Hal Jordan gets To shine as more mature version of himself, I like this pic

There's enough Lanterns to feature across the chapters and Gunn has already tossed 2 of them aside, one if whom being the main GL
i’m excited to see what he brings, he’s a very solid actor. i don’t really care that they want an older Hal Jordan, i just want more Green Lantern content
ok guys , be prepared to say goodbeye to barry too
It works if their goal is to sideline him immediately for more diverse Lanterns. I'm just saying it because it seems to be the trend these days. 😂
@@theorycraftingmachine2876 what is broski jabbering about
They're not ending chapter one with final crisis, I don't even think they'll introduce darkseid at all in the first chapter of their cinematic universe.
Looks like WB refuses to be smart .
Chris pine is right mf there ..
@@brucardi He clearly wants to get rid of Hal to make way for John Stewart.
Alan Scott isn't a traditional green lantern. It doesn't make sense to have Alan Scott training John Stewart when their rings don't work the same.@@brucardi
On the positive side. If DCU’s casting older actors to play iconic heroes. There might be a chance we could see Jensen Ackles as Batman
I hope it's the case
Otherwise f*CK Gunn
Of all the stories, he picks the worst one and Hal looked 50, he wasn't 50 and John wasn't exactly young.
Holy crap I just realized if Hal got recruited when he was thirty then he will have been a green lantern for nearly all of Clark’s life.
It's in talks. It's not official yet
I like it, it's all about acting capabilities
Maybe it if was Alan Scott
And is it not possible to find a 40-year-old actor with good acting skills?
Man this absolutely sucks
F*ck Gunn
F*ck DCU
Hal Jordan is my favourite DC character. I was finally very excited when Lanterns was announced but DC is completely disrespecting him at this point
He's such a good character. He's the best Lantern not John. He deserves his whole solo trilogy with an actor like Jensen Ackles, Chris Evans or Scott Eastwood
Hal is way better than John Stewart and deserves to be the main lantern of DCU
Yes he is I have been asking for a trilogy of him for years
@@eliteghost1001 exactly and this paedo Gunn isn't giving us one neither did Snyder
Don't know wtf are they so obsessed with John who's nothing in front of Hal Jordan
@@joey3654 then why was John Stewart appearing in the end of the film
Plus I always liked Snyder's vision and wanted him to complete it before moving on. But if that was the plan it would've been dope
I always want Hal Jordan as the main lantern
They are definitely killing him off in the near future. DC has always done Hal Jordan dirty, which pisses me off. Look I like John Stewart he’s awesome but Hal is my favourite Green Lantern and I just don’t know about casting an older actor
This has me worried that James is gonna make Barry Allen and Oliver Queen older as well
I'd say it pretty disappointing we won't have a proper Hal Jordan story.
so 59 year old cast as green lantern BUT fired Henry cavill and Ben affleck because are too older? what´s going on with James Gunn, this is a secure FLOP for this DCU
Another 8 years of misery from wb nothing new
Cavill and affleck were never coming back bruh
Lol, same thing you said about the Batman that the movie is going to flop because of Pattinson, and now when the movie came out you all glazing all over it, just keep your judgement until the movie comes out
I appreciate your take on this, and that you chose to highlight parts about the casting and story that you do like. I really appreciate that you mentioned your disappointments in a manner of what you rather have seen opposed to bashing the product. really classy approach, need more people like you! I hear and resonate with your feelings. I’m personally a John Stewart fan over Hal Jordan, and look forward to him being the main green lantern for the justice league. But I agree they could have kept Hal alive and had him lead the outer space stuff. But who knows, nothing is set in stone yet and we don’t know the whole plan yet.
this dude LOOKS like Hal .. but goddamn 60 ?!?!
The Universe is just beginning...
Cast a Young Actor for almost every Role...
Make them look old if the story demands, But the Actor must be YOUNG 😮💨
3:16 It's too early to tell, but the DCU might include prequels featuring younger actors portraying earlier versions of the characters.
video suggestion: what Bruce Timm's dc universe would be like, the new 52 and tomorrow's Marvel version Note: I'm from Brazil and I really like your content
It couldn't been Chris Pratt... for Hal Jordan or Booster Gold...
I agree. It's not that I hate John, but come on, man, Hal Jordan is the best Green lantern focus on him first, then maybe like lanterns season 2, then introduce John Stewart
Kyle Chandler will really work, but I'm curious to see his action in the film and who he plays off.
Well in my eyes this is peak casting 🔥
Hal Jordan is my favorite superhero. While Kyle Chandler would have been a great choice 20 years ago, I am disappointed that James Gunn decided to cast older. My biggest concern is that they might kill off Hal at the end of the first season. Hal deserves better than that.
I actually don't mind this casting...but tbh, I've never really cared about Hal Jordan anyway, so...
Hoping we get an older Barry Allen now
James Marsden would have been the best pick imo
my perfect cast would be:
David corenswet as superman ( at least this one is trully happening)
Zane holtz as batman
Katy o´brian as wonder woman
alexander skarsgard as aquaman
jensen ackles as green lantern
harris dickinson as the flash
damn bro, they ain’t even got a press release about the news yet 😭
The 59 year old Chandler guy looks younger than Chris Pine does LOL! That guy must work out. 😉
I don't collect GL anymore, but after seeing all these videos about Lanterns, it makes me want to buy some LOL.
He’s in talks to play Hal Jordan, nothing confirmed yet
I'm gonna take this with a grain of salt because idk if james gunn has confirmed this or not
You are the GOAT. (The Black Lion).
James Gunn is saving the Green Lantern movie with Kyle Rayner. That’s why old man Hal Jordan sets up the introduction of Kyle Rayner.
Hal Jordan needs to be in Multiple DCU movies similar to the comics that we saw Hal, John, Kyle, and Guy in The Sinestro Corps War and throughout The War of Light/Blackest Night.
he’s old because we are getting the GOAT version of the Justice League from the animated series
He's older to show the history of the heroes of the Earth because the plot of Lanterns is going to revolve around the Black Lanterns. Hal and Jon facing off against revived Silver Age heroes.
You don't know that.
I think this could be "legacy" series, true detective with sense of aged-up guardian now seeking successor. I think they should have done film first with John Steward solo Film and then series, but they mighty be combining it togheter as 2 in 1. Let's pray and hope for the best #DC
*KYLE CHANDLER:*
-Bruce Baxter (KING KONG 2005)
-Mark Russell (GODZILLA II KOTM, GOD vs KING)
-HAL JORDAN (DCU)
🎬🗿👌🏿
*GODZILLA x KONG 🆚️ THE JUSTICE LEAGUE*
John Stewart’s awesome. But I want Hal to get a good live action adaptation first. I just hope that they blow me away with his character so much that I won’t mind him staying for 1 season
They can always do prequel stories of Hal with a younger actor. But he won't be a Justice League member.
I think Kyle Chandler would've been amazing for the 2011 Green Lantern movie
This is the one time me and James Gunn will have to disagree😂 (outside of saying sum old stuff might be canon)
They really could’ve picked someone so much better than all these people
There are plenty of storied where Hal is depicted as older and it's not like Green Lantern is a role that requires a ton of physicality anyway and i bet they just want to have him there but have room for our main justice league lantern be either John Stewart or Kyle Rainer
Oh, also, Kyle Chandler is great. Very happy with the casting
This feels weird but I’ll wait and see
I dig this casting, but I only see him doing maybe 2 to 3 projects max, unless they just want an older Hal for a while I’m okay with it. There’s so many other interesting lantern characters that deserve a live action adaptation like John or even Kyle Rayner
What if they make a Animated prequel miniseries with how Jordan and Gardner since they’re so old giving their history?
What’s stopping them from telling any of these characters that’s stories are already unfolded in the dcu with prequel series/movies. Like I expect to very much see dicks story in full through the dcu even if he is nightwing already. We could see Hal’s green lantern story without being hampered by the other characters tying down the green lantern lore
Wait, did people not realize he was going to be old? Litterally everything point towards him going to be old.
Doesn't mean they have to like it, we were hoping Gunn would change his mind but nope
@tektyrant there's a difference between being older and straight-up old
I would have taken Glen Powell or Chris Pine
I would’ve just casted Jensen made him older of course more seasoned and then eventually turn him into parallax down the road l. I’d give him a Anakin like role just more experienced and what not who eventually turns dark in chapter 4
Can you do a video on "how would the
Dark universe be with the complete structure of the MCU"
I don't understand james gunn confirmed that the dcu will be more like star wars that it will be set in different timelines like some projects will be set in the past like paradise lost and the potentially justice society of america movie and the sergent rock movie and some will be set in the present it's that simple. They could introduce hal as a veteran in lanterns and then make a prequel movie/show about hal jordan about his origins and all so it's ok
I like the casting and am pumped for John Stewart to be the main Lantern
Being old doesn’t really mean shit. I hope they just don’t kill him off. Good casting
My mans over here seething 😭. Let's just let them cook bro
Also Lanterns should not be a movie because it would bomb due to green lanterns history lanterns should start as a shoe then he should get a movie
@@aunknownspecies4153 It is starting as a show on Max not a movie.
@@auradjinns duhhh that’s my point I’m saying that because he said it should be a movie not a show
They’re casting him old because they’re doing Parallax, and to use as an excuse to do movies in the past to explain more Lanterns lore so both Hal and Jon’s story can be told concurrently.
They made him that old because they plan to kill him off just like they did before in the most recent cartoon imagining Hal Jordan gets To shine as more mature version of himself, I like this pic
How can you say It doesn't work if we never watch the lantern series?
I really like the actor but I feel like the ideal older actor for Hal Jordan is Tom Cruise I know he's 62 but I've just always seen him as Hal
He’s too expensive for a tv show
I really like Kyle Chandler, and he fits the personality for Hal (watch King Kong 2005 if you wanna see), so I'm gonna let James Gunn cook.
I don't care about his age, as long as he does the role justice (No pun intended.)
Also, Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo were a decade older than Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth and no one minded that.
Great choice, I loved his character mark Russell in the monster verse. Same with his character Bruce Baxter in King Kong 2005.
We will see Hal Jordan in Multiple DCU movies especially when we see The Sinestro Corps War, The War of Light and The Blackest Night in Future DCU Movies.
