I agree, i really liked him in Godzilla King of the Monsters. He is definitely that dad/older mentor figure that's chill but can be stern and I think he is a good fit as an older Hal. Very underrated actor.

Every other actor is known for playing intense, arrogant, or uber confident characters, and while Kyle Chandler does often play an authority figure, he's much more approachable. I could see him playing Hal Jordan as less hardened, more world weary
Kyle comes off as a natural leader, has an intensity thats... almost kind. Tough love type but big on love. He is really great actor. Love the casting.

I definitely feel like the DCU is doing with Green Lantern like what the MCU did with Ant-Man. Which is making the original characters (Hal Jordan & Hank Pym) pass the torch to their successors (John Stewart & Scott Lang).
I hated they made Hank and Janet old. They missed out on bringing so many great stories involving those characters to movies. Looks like DC is doing the same with Hal, and I don't like it.

As a teenager I did my homework to the TV show Early Edition, so I know Kyle primarily as a man who got the newspaper a day early and had to try and prevent disasters. He can do this. That show was everything 💚

BLASPHEMY! (Watch 'Bloodline'. He plays a police chief in the Keys and I think becomes sheriff by the end. He's bargain barrel, though. Doesn't mean he can't pull off a new type of character for him, though.
I grew up watching Early Edition where his character is this Clark Kent-like Good Guy with very strong moral character and it’s a very corny show that doesn’t have a lot of moral complexity but he nails the job really well and I kind of like that for a Hal Jordan
He looks like he’s gonna bring some kind of cosmic compassion. His face looks very kind so he’s not gonna be the hard edged how Jordan of the 50s and 60s of particularly when he was paired with green arrow and he was sort of a cop cosmic cop.

Chandler is really grounded. I like this. He was brilliant in Friday Night Lights & then in Bloodlines he plays a guy who seems as lovely and decent as his FNL character but has dark, dark skeletons.

I loved Friday Night Lights and I was thinking of how to explain to you what makes it so good, and basically a lot of the reason it's so good is because of Kyle Chandler's character. He's a fresh take on a tough guy with a heart of gold. It's really hard to tell if he only loves football and ends up mentoring all of the players on the other parts of their lives in order to make them batter at football, or if he really loves football but also cannot, dispite how much he wants to, pass up opportunities to do something good. A lot of the credit likely should go to the writing, but Kyle Chandler plays it perfectly.
We Green Lantern fans really can't win . The only good Hal Jordan/Green Lantern adaptation we've had was in the Green Lantern animated series and in green lantern first flight. Since then he's gotten done dirt.

They’re casting him old because they’re doing Parallax, and to use as an excuse to do movies in the past to explain more Lanterns lore so both Hal and Jon’s story can be told concurrently. Parallax made him age fast. Don’t be surprised if he’s around 40 but appears 60 cause of it
Nathan Fillion could have been Hal because he's younger than most of the candidates for the role. If Gunn wasn't so focused on trolling his friend, we could have gotten a fan casting on par with Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier.

Here’s some of his best work: • Bullhead (this is dark, just a head’s up) • Rust and Bone • Far From the Maddening Crowd • The Drop • The Mustang Great actor. He’s got an Alex Ross old school quality to him, like an American hero archetype of another age (like fighter pilots which haven’t been relevant since the 90s) and yet his age and serious qualities (and dramatic chops) balance that out. I think it’s kinda perfect If the GL franchise takes off they could always eventually First Class it with some 30 year old, way down the line

Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and their chemistry is a big reason why. Plus early greatness from Jessie Plemons. And honestly, I don't think Chandler has had a role worth his talent since then. He's not really who I would have expected for Hal Jordan, but he would be great in the part.

I haven't been keeping up with the set photos for the Superman movie, so I was surprised to see Mr. Terrific in that one shot. The grey T on his face looks way better in live action than I thought it would. What a great surprise coming off my Justice League Unlimited binge.

There was a show called 'Early Edition' that started in 1996 and ran for 4 seasons about a guy (Kyle Chandler) who received the paper every morning only it was actually the paper for the next day and he would use it to try and help anyone who the paper said was in trouble. Then over the course of the series he'd investigate how the paper came to him and who created it. High concept, pretty fun sometimes. Only I remember when it first started the reviews were not kind to Kyle. They thought he was pretty dull and lifeless as the star of the show. In a way I think it's similar to Keanu Reeves. He used to cop crap about his acting too and now he's arguably one of the biggest stars around. Also one of the nicest. That all said, I hope he gets it and is awesome.
If you watch him as the fbi agent from wolf on wall street he kinda can sell that quirky snarky Hal Jordan maybe the role can give him that shot of showing more dimensions on his acting
The moment I saw in the thumbnail that it's Kyle Chandler from the show Early Edition(that's where I know him, but I didn't really watched the show) I immediately pictured him just like Hal Jordan with a sinister grin wearing a lot of green lantern rings on Emerald Twilight comic book cover.
He's an acceptable if relatively obvious choice for the character, especially at that age. I'm not as intrigued or excited as I'd be if Brolin had said yes, but I like Kyle Chandler enough, especially if he brings some of that Game Night energy.
Honestly, Chandler is probably my favorite of the choices for Hal Jordan. I think he can bring a lot of solid cocky, older Hal Jordan energy without being super gruff and hardened like Brolin or McConaughey. My only gripe with Timothy Olyphant playing Hal is that I think he’d be much better as Human Target who last I heard was rumored to be getting a Max show.

Honestly, it’s just more evidence to the “he’s a cop, he’s usually in charge” claim; but please watch Chandler’s stint in Grey’s Anatomy Season 2, Ep 16 & 17. That character called Dylan Young is essentially a human cop version of Hal Jordan. Even if you don’t care about Grey’s Anatomy, his acting is so solid and believable.

Not a bad choice… I think of Hal as more of a daredevil and cocky, and Kyle Chandler has always seen the more down to earth levelheaded type. But he’s a really good actor, so I think he could pull it off… but we’ll wait and see

He's great in Game Night. He hadn't been that energetic and cocky (character wise) since Pure Country.

He’s got such an everyman dad energy in Friday Night Lights, which I think is great for this role.
He’s fantastically underrated in Manchester By the Sea. Can’t wait to see what’s up with this, didn’t expect this turn!

I liked him as the FBI agent in "The Wolf of Wall Street".
Honestly, Chandler is probably my favorite of the choices for Hal Jordan. I think he can bring a lot of solid cocky, older Hal Jordan energy without being super gruff and hardened like Brolin or McConaughey.
My only gripe with Timothy Olyphant playing Hal is that I think he’d be much better as Human Target who last I heard was rumored to be getting a Max show.

One thing he is the main actor in that you didn't mention is an old show called Early Edition. if you can find anywhere to watch it I cant recommend it enough.
I don’t think of Hal Jordan as over 50 or even 40
Honestly, it’s just more evidence to the “he’s a cop, he’s usually in charge” claim; but please watch Chandler’s stint in Grey’s Anatomy Season 2, Ep 16 & 17. That character called Dylan Young is essentially a human cop version of Hal Jordan.
Even if you don’t care about Grey’s Anatomy, his acting is so solid and believable.
No mention of Early Edition where he played a man who received a supernatural gift and used it to do good? Also the magic paper is brought to him by a magic cat.
I like Kyle Chandler for an older Hal Jordan, much better than Josh Brolin. I think he can bring an affable charm, that I feel Hal Jordan has in a lot of comics.

his face looks like a budget Tom Cruise, which i like, because if there's anyone the writers should emulate to get a perfect Hal Jordan is Tom Cruise.

Enjoyed him in the tv show Early Edition, could see that character basically continuing down the road he’s on and basically being a Hal Jordan type

Kyle Chandler's best work was starring in the TV show "Early Edition" for 4 seasons. If you want to watch something with him in it, watch the first 2 episodes of that show.

Not a bad choice… I think of Hal as more of a daredevil and cocky, and Kyle Chandler has always seen the more down to earth levelheaded type. But he’s a really good actor, so I think he could pull it off… but we’ll wait and see

I absolutely love this casting, if you haven’t watched Friday Night Lights you should it is a great show and Kyle Chandler is great in it.
Eyyyy, Chandler is always great, no matter the tone. He is a fantastic as the bomber squadron commander in Catch-22, where his is HILARIOUS.

Chandler is incredible in Friday Night Lights, he and Connie Britton are the heart and soul of a very good show. Though he’s definitely older than I would’ve expected for the part.
