Sreten's enthusiasm for vapour blasting is highly entertaining. It's the shear enjoyment of watching someone who wants something to be shiny and perfect knowing that, soon, it will be, like a big Christmas present is about to be opened!
19:44 good trick for in situ flushing, replace the lines and keep the old connectors, chop the pipe portion and mate the connector to some hose, same for the other side, then you can either marry the whole thing to a cheapo aquarium pump (high volume) and fill the system with some detergent based cleaner or just use regular water to flush it from the tap. I personally run the system through a small bucket with a pump, changing the liquid to increasingly cleaner water. Works great for rads and other finned implements. It's particularly good if you have the time to run some deposit breakers through the system. I use a little bit of zep calcium lime and rust remover and it works a treat. In 4 or 5 flushes the water goes from raw sewage to clean, and there's a lot residue that's spewed out in the bucket, so i know it also "cooks" off the stuff inside the walls too. Great video as always and worth the extra wait. Just so people know, Bmw brought these out as a 'filled for life' transmission. What this actually meant was its not a service item whilst under warranty (5 years). It was still meant to be serviced but obviously every 5 years or 150,000ks as all automatics burn its oil eventually. These transmissions were alsp used in our aussie falcons but had a service schedule in place from ford. Hence why the E70 have trans related issues and people/ mechanics take the life time fill for granted. Just a fact i learnt in my auto career working with ZF and Bmw
Great job on the trans! Again, it reminded me of my old E53, it had original fluid at 150k which I replaced with ZF factory fluid. What a difference that made. What you did here with the mechatronics unit was next level, must be like a new trans now.
Yep. That's the correct fix. The "lifetime" fluid is bullshit. Fluids inside a transmission should be changed just like any other oil. If that claim, which is 100% a wanketing overstatement, were true, then they'd never change the transmission fluids on far more complex machinery like farming implements. And boy do those fluids get changed, by the oil drums. Those gearboxes make this one look like a child's toy by comparison with all the various options and different clutch packs and solenoids. In our lot, we change the fluid every 10k. Not too many times, not too far between them either. We've never, not once had issues with our gearboxes. They are by far the most reliable component across several brand, once you disregard the obvious bullshit.
The level of maintenance you go to is amazing. I would love to see you do a before maintenance dyno power run and one afterwards on the next car you get. To see if there is any noticeable gains from fresh fluids, filters, plugs, sensors, etc
Wow. You're the King of the Extra Mile! LOL. Almost no one shows or even does all the check valves and replacing of the sandwich gasket. Usually just the little tube like seals and the solenoids. But GREAT job!

Heya Sreten, I’m a parts manager for Volvo and trust me it’s not just bmw that’s cunning with the bushings for sway bars and anti roll bars, Volvo make you change the whole thing as well. The same goes for a lot of the control arms, core exchange parts that are easier to replace the whole control arm rather than just the bushings in those arms. Difference in cost of control arm price vs bushing is saved by saving on labour time to replace the arm rather than the bushing in the arm.

Hey Sreten, great video and fantastic results. Your jubilation when the car went into instant reverse after the transmission service came through very clearly! Always a pleasure to watch your videos and see the meticulous work that you do.
Once again, a fantastic episode. I'm so impressed by the way how you pick up all the technical challenges like rebuilding a complete engine but also fixing the automatic gears. Super interesting content and I'm always enjoying a new video from you, so keep them coming :). My hat is off to you.
This 3 second delay in reverse is exactly what my X5 is doing. You are a very brave and patient human being. Your technique looked perfect. I salute you.
I’m amazed by the efforts you make and how carefully your are maintaining these beauties ! Nice work as usual, every time i enjoy watching your videos, keep going… Good luck !
Mate your editing is the best! So hooked on your vids and your command of English and sayings son you're officially an adopted Brit. Blessings from Shropshire.
I wait for your videos with more expectations than a chapter of Rings of power!!
I was thinking "why is he taking so much time to upload a new video!" And then... A huge 1 hour video with this quality where everything goes well and MUTSY is happy and the suv it's coming back to life.
Thanks for all the effort and dedication, i leave you a few word in spanish from Argentina...
SOS UN CAPO!! Y TUS VIDEOS SON EL MEJOR CONTENIDO DE RUclips!! VENITE A COMER UN ASADO Y TOMAR UNOS VINOS!
I really like this vehicle, what a nice piece of mechanical artistry! I have one similar to this but is a 2001 X5 with the 4.4 litre engine. It is the same exterior but a pearl interior. Man, it's nice. Unfortunately it has the blue smoke blues with the same diagnosis. I can't afford to have the work done regrettably as it is some $8000 dollars here in Canada, but I have very much enjoyed watching you do it here. Beautiful work on a gorgeous vehicle Sreten!
You are a Serbian legend, Sir! God bless you!
Thank you so much sir! This is very helpful. I have 645ci and I love it. I may just drop the entire engine and also change the smg clutch.
just a heads up, when he selects reverse the front wheel moves abnormaly back and forth it is visible in 50:15
I was wondering about that
Thrust arm bushings are shot. We are doing suspension in the next episode
@@M539Restorations awesome work as always! Hope you enjoy your vacation - it’s very much deserved after wrestling those valve covers.
Coffee is on me. Thx
As always, you raise the bar on the word restoration. Thank you as always for the amazing and motivational content.
My brother-in-law GAVE me his 2007 4.8 X5 because it wouldn’t start. Can’t wait to get into it. Thank you for the great video!
It’s amazing to see how many other RUclipsrs have “picked” up your editing style
Despite having sold all my BMW's, I still watch regularly. Serendipitously, my non-BMW fleet gets bunches of BMW parts to keep on the road. Thanks and keep up the entertaining, motivating content!
Let's get this beautiful episode back on track! I'll just have to re play it the whole day! Great episode as always Sreten!
51:48 Bushing of front left tyre should be changed. Nice work 👏
Cheers Sreten👍 Hope the M3 is going well over there 😎🇺🇲
The transmission service was fascinating to watch, and it fixed the issue!
50:14 Am I hallucinating or does the front wheel go a nudge forward when the car is put in reverse? :D
Otherwise GREAT Video as always.
Bad control arms
Thrust arm bushings are shot. Will be addressed in the next episode
@@M539Restorations Well, seems it wasn't a hallucination. 😅
I'm looking forward to the next episode 👍🏻
Believe me, I don't get any joy in seeing you get frustrated with a BMW, however, I am glad that I am not the only one that goes through a multitude of emotions while working on a BMW. Love your videos...keep up the excellent work!
Your dedication to these cars and your content is admirable! Thanks for the re-upload!
Hello from New Jersey I think I would have used a few more colorful metaphors to describe the right valve cover fitment. Your skills and patience are admired.
Would love to see that M-Package conversion ;)
Yes please!
16:39 - 16:44 Love that part, the dog barking makes it perfect. Lovely video Sreten as usual.
Very subtle way to tell your viewers you’re going on vacation 😂. As usual top notch episode.
Much appreciated men, love the content and the love you gave the car.. I recently got me an E71 been driving it for 2 months now still wanna do major service as it's new car to me the content we'll help a lot
Damm, your wife will get the most sorted "old" BMW in Germany.
Imagine taking your car to the garage and the mechanic works like this 👌🤟
The patience and attention to detail amaze me every single episode.
On top of the hard work fixing these cars, I can’t imagine how do you have time to make such studio quality videos! It’s always nice to watch you fix and restore these beautiful engines. Thank you!!
Im in ICT but these videos are so relaxing to watch 😊 + you learn something 🎉 Sehr gut!
Fantastic content and the best automotive channel on the youtubes!
Mutzy the official channel mascot?
Practicing your NYC dialect before visiting. EXCELLENT! Watah pump!
censoring the f word with a bark caught me off guard hahahahah
I dnt knw about the other subbies. But everytime i hear your mention the words BRAND NEW i feel like i get a bargain for my money for the car being fixed even though its not even my car. I psychologically smiley everytime.....in my mind im like...YES! YES! YES!
Im from South Africa and here what you have replaced on this car i could have gone and bought myself a brand new vehicle they way things are expensive. If you were my mechanic here i would have said stop half way through the repairs because i wasn't going to be able to afford the bill for all that brand new part🤣😂👍
I don't like SUVs that much (except for LC & RR) but I definitely like the 1st and 2nd generations of the X5. They are good looking and people seem to like them even after all these years.
Iiii idemo jos jednom na 0.25 brzine ali mute, da dignemo vrijeme gledanja 😄
Heya Sreten, I’m a parts manager for Volvo and trust me it’s not just bmw that’s cunning with the bushings for sway bars and anti roll bars, Volvo make you change the whole thing as well. The same goes for a lot of the control arms, core exchange parts that are easier to replace the whole control arm rather than just the bushings in those arms. Difference in cost of control arm price vs bushing is saved by saving on labour time to replace the arm rather than the bushing in the arm.
