Хочу сказать, что эти братья очень талантливые музыканты, их родители тоже музыканты, жили в Мин водах... I like to imagine watching Rachmaninoff and Horowitz coming down the stairs to the Steinway basement to play two pianos, and they hear this magnificent playing from the back room, where they are headed. But it seems no one is there. Then they peer over a music stand and see this tiny pixie in white, who politely smiles up at them, as they weep.
The thing about the great masters is that they are very unsentimental, unlike amateurs; and they are also somewhat more difficult to impress. This is not a knock on the performer, who is exceptionally talented.
Above all else that Etude by Marc-Andre Hamelin - the second piece - nails the recital - and maybe the competition too. An inspired choice stunningly played with total confidence - I think I'd get seasick just looking at the music! I keep coming back JUST to hear that piece. I love the clarity of melodies coming through. I played this piece for my 8th grade exam and it's technically difficult. Beautiful.
