Im sure someone already said this, but rub a few drops of dish soap on the wires when trying to pull them through the rubber grommets, it literally took me 20 seconds. Good video, thanks

Yeah, I screwed that up. I know better 😂 that was an unnecessary struggle for real

I just finished installing these on my new hybrid XLE. I had the iPad out in the driveway and referred to spots in the video a couple of times. Thanks for putting this video out!
One similar video showed a bunch of panel removal steps on the side panels near the existing cargo light. It was much easier to fish the wires down than try to remove more interior clips in near freezing temperatures. It took a few tries to get an electrician’s fish tape through to the side cargo light hole, but it was better than risking snapping clips off in the cold.
As others said, a lubricant to get the wires through the boot between the body and the lift gate works wonders. I used a drop of liquid dish soap and a little water. Also, electrical tape wound tightly around the wire used to fish wires through the boot helps keep things compact and easier to pull through.
Anyhow, I love the new cargo lights and the LED reverse lights that I installed today. Thanks again for the assist.

Great insight, if I did it again I'd for sure use some lube on the wires. The lights make a huge difference! Thanks for watching!

Dropping the flexible grabber tool down through from the top to the oem lamp position is a great time saving tip. I'm going to be installing these same lights tonight and didn't want to pull the panels off like others have done. Too bad the connector got damaged. I would have just used butt connectors instead of the spades because I don't think I'll ever need to disconnect the wires in the future.......at least I hope so. Anyways, thanks for the tutorial. My instructions are all in Chinese and useless and this is a big help.

Awesome, another tip that might save you a big headache is to tape your OEM lamp to the cargo wall or tie a long chord onto it just in case it falls back into the hole

on the grommet slide, put just a bit of grease (be sure not to touch the electrical metal part of the wire) on the outside of insulators and it will slide much easier!!

Just installed mine, use a small tie and wd40 to get through the boot, its then so quick and easy to pull through.

If you are not sure how to slide the wires in the white plug. Look at the smaller plug at the other end of the harness , the small horns must face down when you look at the plug in the upright position, you will see 2 small tracks, this is where the horns slide in. The plugs are suppose to slide in very easily, without applying excessive pressure. Before starting, take the loose white plug, and partially insert it in the matting plug. Take a red marker and color code the side the red wire goes. Just small tips that will save you some time.

Hi, good video… BUT, use soapy water, spray it inside the rubber sleeve and spray soapy water on the wire. It took me no more than 2 minutes at most. But,as I said, good video job, at least you took time to do it. Kudos my friend 😎

Do you have a lnk for the tool you used to feed the wiring up to the hatch from the stock rav4 trunk light? How did you wire the harness from the aftermarket leds to the original trunk light? Thanks for the video

    • @installsandpitfalls

At minute 19 it shows the Y adapter installed, I guess we forgot to show me clicking them together. When you remove the stock harness from the light in the beginning, tape or tie a long string onto the harness...if it falls back into the hole it's really hard to find it and fish it back out, I know from experience.
