  • Today I spoke with Hannah Timson, the former President at Humanist Students UK.
Hannah joined me previously for a discussion with Mike Lawrence regarding the subject of the abusiveness of childhood indoctrination, but today we talked through Hannah's deconversion story.
We focused on the early cracks in the foundation of her Christian beliefs, the issues and crucial questions that came to the forefront as she worked through whether or not the Bible stories were real or mythological, and the implications. We discussed her final steps toward deconversion, her exit from Christianity, and what it looks like to live a life free from a pretend deity and worldview, and from the horrific and bizarre teachings of the Bible and Christianity.
Many thanks to Hannah for her openness and vulnerability, her bravery to tackle the hard questions, and her willingness to be a strong voice for the atheist and humanist communities.

Greetings from Lancaster PA 😉 I grew up in the pentecostal denomination in a church where my Dad was the pastor, until I was 15. My deconversion has been really hard, especially the eternal damnation part. After 3 years and a battle with depression I am finally free and trying to enjoy life to the fullest. Your channel as well as Mythvision opened my eyes. Thank you Tim.

Hannah's deconversion story is inextricably intwined to my own; specifically her struggle with the problem of suffering. Obviously she covers a lot more ground in this interview, but her appearance on 'Unbelievable?' with Sharon Dirckx (which was mainly discussing the problem of suffering) was the final straw for my own Christian ✝️ faith. I became a humanist soon after that.
Btw, it's a delicious irony that Hannah's Mum sent her off to live with the Amish for a year so her faith could be strengthened, yet it had precisely the opposite effect! 😉

1:33:22 good point, that they don't think it's a lie. But then the onus is on them to make sure it's true. Since the child has no critical thinking skills or ability to resist the teaching, the adult needs to do all the work of examining the counter points, looking at the history and listening to the critics to be sure they are justified in overriding the child's will.

But it is funny that most Christians don't seem to mind upsetting unbelievers at all because they feel so strongly that they are in the right & they must not be offended.

Love yourself, love yr neighbor - pray to be humble and show gratitude - thats it in a nutshell -we are fragile born imperfect into an imperfect world yet we dream, we hope and keep trying to improve ourselves in multitudes of ways to comprehend better, empathize better to grow stronger, more conscious of our decisions aware that its impossible to approach perfection bc we are broken -this is wisdom, our minds eye can see that which has no form yet through persistence we takes the first step to remake the world in our image through faith, the substance of things not seen except in our minds eye becomes reality through will & determination we bring safety, shelter, warmth food and companionship - I think that ppl are confused by certain concepts introduced by sects of Christianity which have little to do with the spirit of Christian brotherly love, communion together and building the institutions which care for humanities bodies and souls- important traditions that mark passing milestones and confirm responsibility to others and oneself - u can be as mystical or mundane as personally capable without marring the gift of fellowship - its also about the importance of having good spirits as examples bc garbage in, garbage out is the way our OS runs - too much negativity darkens our soul while too much sunlight creates an empty desert inside. Dont be fooled by nonsense and convoluted explanations - Christianity is simple needing no candles, hymns or rituals just an open heart open ears and open mind accepting that self control is a mans duty and that to suffer for love is the greatest sacrifice -

Hannah Timson was an impressive and informative guest. Realizing the God of of the Old Testament was not the God of Creation or the God Jesus taught about is a lot to understand. Zacharia Stichin's research on the source materials for the OT that Daniel was exposed to during the Babylon Captivity was a key factor in finding my way to the God of Light that Jesus taught about. The source of all creation became real to me when I was seven years old. To know the Source of ALL things requires no human teacher. Accounts of Near Death experiences researched by Raymond Moody was icing on the Cake of Truth for me. I found no reason to become an Atheist. In 2017 there was a story out Rome that the Pope told a reporter that Hell was invented by the Catholic Church to control the masses. The true and living Source is pure Love. Fear is the opposite of Love and is in Opposition to Love.

It’s interesting to me that when a person is predisposed (for whatever reason) to believe or not believe a thing, their “research” leads them to where they want to end up. So many “discoveries” for these two are either from old scholarship or very debatable scholarship by people who themselves latched on to “research” that lead them to what they too wanted to believe.
On a related note, there’s a lot of cognitive dissonance that a person has to resolve when they are regularly having sex with their friend but have learned that it displeases God.

IT IS FINISHED... Paid in Full !!! But, You Must BELIEVE IT - 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV.
Like many "Christians" today, Satan believes Jesus died on the cross, but not for HIS sins. He believes Jesus has risen, but not for HIS eternal life.
Satan believes the event of the cross but never put his trust in Christ's finished work for salvation.
Salvation is not: Believing there is a God. (Satan believes that)
Salvation is not: Believing Christ was the Messiah. (Satan believes that)
Salvation is not even... Believing Christ died, was buried and rose the third day. (Satan believes that also)
Salvation is: Believing Christ died for YOUR EVERY SIN and trusting that He rose to give you eternal life IN HIM!
Something Satan and most Christians want no part of because of their PRIDE!
If denominationalists truly believed Christ forgave their sins, they wouldn't spend so much time trying to GET them forgiven.
One tells you to pray for forgiveness.
One tells you to confess for forgiveness.
One tells you to believe for forgiveness.
One tells you to repent for forgiveness.
One tells you to be baptized for forgiveness.
And keep in mind, all of these folk with a straight face will tell you Christ DIED for your sins. Welcome to Nutsville!!! I think Dorothy got lost on the yellow brick road.
Today I unapologetically proclaim that there is only one way to be saved, and it has nothing to do with getting your sins forgiven. Salvations through FAITH. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Without faith it is impossible to please God.
Salvation comes to those who are ready to give up on THEIR performance and rest their faith in JESUS' performance.
The path to salvation is narrow. SO narrow that nothing you do will fit.
Satan will never be saved for the same reason he was kicked out of heaven. P-R-I-D-E. (Isaiah 14:12-14)
Read carefully and count how many times he says "I".
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
      Satan is obviously a Narcissist!
Like a vain person in front of the mirror, five times in only three verses he boasts of himself. Pride keeps Satan from being saved as it does most of the world. They have fallen victim to SELFIANITY and are incapable of letting go and letting God. Incapable of taking their filthy hands off their salvation and allowing God to save them by HIS finished work!
If you say --- "I said a prayer for forgiveness." "I confessed for forgiveness." "I believed for forgiveness." "I repented for forgiveness." "I was baptized for forgiveness."
Then sadly you have fallen for the five I's just like Satan.
Salvation is not getting your sins forgiven, it's believing they already ARE!
To be saved, you must first get "I" out of the way.
