PLL theory: 3x01 reflects what truly happened in 1x01?? -A punishes the Liars for killing Bethany?

- UPDATE: A redditor presented me with the amazing idea, that the clues of the Liars killing Bethany would also apply to the girls killing real Ali that night. This means our "Ali" would be a twin (maybe Bethany?), pretending to be her sister to avenge the real Alison! After all, who would end up being a better A than Ali herself? ;)

if this is true then there are also a lot of parallels between the show and the movie Prom Night (1980) where a kid watches his sister, Robin, accidentally killed by four kids who make a pact to never tell anyone. years later on the night of their prom a killer (who we dont know the identity of till the end) stalks and kills all of them. one Robin's surviving siblings, Kim finally attacks the killer and its revealed as Alex, the brother who wanted to kill the four for killing his sister.
Oh Wow. I have never watched a theory that made so much sense. This literally ties everything together. Good work!!
+The Life of a Social Butterfly Yes!!! We never got to know A's motive to torture the 4 girls. And standing between him/her and one of her/his relatives doesn't really makes sense...because they never even did that. But killing a friend - it would make much more sense! (I formed the sentence like that because I didn't want to spoil who A is... :) )

I would like to add something more to your theory.. Remember on Season 1 the Pilot Episode, when Aria goes back to school and meets Emily and that weird conversation they have about Alison.. In the scene it goes something like this :
Aria; I saw a photo of Alison yesterday..
Emily; we all know shes dead... Right ?
Why would she use KNOW instead of THINK? Unless what you gave in your theory is true that they killed someone that night and now Charles is after them... Like why is it so important for Charles to have the liars and ALison reLive of that night again?,.... He probably wants to let them know of what they did..

I think we're just seeing a glimpse of Charles on 6x09 at the Prom and on 6x10 he'll explain his reasons for doing everything. I heard charles will die and the episode will end with the girls getting a text and then Boom the time jump... Hahah i wonder if people will still watch the show after finding out who Charles/A is.

I am so glad you made this theory! That one phrase from Wilden "It's exactly what you said last year, almost like it's rehearsed" always stuck out to me. I could never really let it go but it just NEVER seemed to fit with all the A reveals and clues, but this is the most solid theory I have seen! New theory, A.D. Is a parent and A is Bethany's sibling? Maybe CeCe or possibly Wren?
There was a theory a long time ago that in the opening theme that the dead girl in the coffin was someone they killed. It was thought to be Ali. It was always hinted that Spencer hit somebody. We don't know who. But Bethany's cause of death was from being buried alive. Getting hit on the head didn't help either. She was still alive when Melissa buried her. She was just knocked out. I will say this is a great theory. Well done. Don't forget that Mrs. D was killed and buried. She's linked to Bethany too. Through having an affair with Bethany's dad. Why would someone hit Alison? Why would Cece sneak into Radley pretending to be Alison? Those are things we need from the writers. Great video.
One of my favorite theories. But I think Spencer and Emily did it because remember when Emily went to doctor Sullivan and the hypnotherapy? I think that was significant.
***** I actually think Cece hit Bethany, but Charles and Melissa thought Spencer or Alison did it. That's why Charles hit Alison and Mrs. DiLaurentis buried her trying to project Charles. But since Charles is still obsessed with Alison he is looking for a replacement, and that's where Sara comes in. He thinks he killed Alison on labor day. So he kidnaps a replacement, Sara, that's why she has been located after labor day. Because she didn't have anything to do with the events of labor day, but was kidnapped as a result of what transpired that day. Why I think Cece hit Bethany? Jason mentioned seeing her at their house on the day Bethany was killed at some point. And she visited Bethany, pretending to be Alison, so she did know her.

Omg I just remembered something else. If "The Great Charlemagne" from the episode where the liars went to Ravenswood was supposed to be Charles. How was CeCe and Ali dressed as redcoat when she put Emily in the box at the exact same time? Literally makes no sense. Marlene out wrote herself.

I think the girls killed Bethany . BUT I think their motive was to actually kill Ali but instead they killed Bethany. That's why Emily " knew " they killed Alison so she couldn't be alive .

One of the best theories ever! It would also make sense to how they're always covered in dirt or how they have a shovel in the PLL photoshoots. The theme song to PLL is also a clue to me cuz of how guilty they look like they're the ones who killed that person.

I think "Sara" is actually Bethany and red coat. I feel like it was a bit convenient that Mona was "killed" by a blonde headed girl. But as we all know she wasn't actually killed, she was brought to the doll house. "Sara" could've been acting as if she was down there all that time. Plus Sara than became close with the one of the liars and once she moved out Red coat came back.
I think this is spot on . Makes me think that possibly Bethany killed Toby's mum first then it's not so heart breaking that our favourite Liars are murderers . And I think that Jenna heard the girls kill Bethany (thinking it was Allison) but couldn't see which one did it. Then when she found out Alison was alive she became red coat to help Charles him work out who it was that killed her

As Marlene said 'we will feel sorry for Charles' and the more episode we get, the more convinced i am of this...I don't think Charles will turn out to be evil..The texts are signed A after all and I think it stands for UberA not BigA (aka Charles). He wants to reconnect with his family but he can't reveal himself just yet because he's afraid/threatened/ blackmailed by UberA bc she/he helped him escape Radley.
BigA and UberA have different motives that's why all the girls are harassing even if one of them is working with A because Charles is not the one tormenting them...
And yes I think he is going to die after his identity is revealed but before he could tell who UberA is...
Laura Salvador Charles is A. He might have a partner, but he wears the hoodie and sent A texts, so he is definitely A. He was the one in the dollhouse, torturing the girls and starving Mona. I agree, he seemed like a cute kid and not dangerous at all in the videos. Despite this he clearly has serious mental problems by now, which were probably caused by the life he had in Radley. Charles may want to reunite with Jason, but he's hardly a innocent and good person.

Haha oh my gos this theory is great! Sadly Marlene is probably gonna come up with something Whittier than this. She's complicated the show so much that no matter who ends up being A there won't be sufficient explanations for half of what's happened. Watch we're all gonna be pretty disappointed with whatever she pulls out of her as this time.

I love that the video doesn't concentrate on the identity of A but on what the liars did to make him the way he is.♡ I noticed some parallels between these two episodes but this is sooo good! This is sooooooo awesome. I always thought the same! The girls MUST have done something huge that night. From what we know by now, they didn't do anything and that's pretty anticlimactic. I really hope this is true. Great video!!!

I agree. Plus, this final A. needs to have a real motive for once, or else it will be anticlimactic. We don't need another "mom and dad didn't love me enough" or "I am jealous" motive. I want to remember Pretty Little Liars as a good thing after it's done.
I don't know why I'm here after all this time, but damn, I miss PLL theories, how good they were and how this one in particular is so much better than the motivation given by Big A in 6x10.

That's a nice theory. This entire time we (the audience) have thought that Spencer, Emily, Aria, and Hanna were the most innocent in all of this. That this "A" person or figure has been punishing them for a mess that Alison got them into. But what if they actually have been guilty of something this entire time?
I haven't read all the comments, because there are so many, so I don't know if someone has mentioned this already, but in the pilot, remember the conversation between Aria and Emily where one of them says something like "we did what we had to do" i.e. stop talking/being friends. Why did they have to do that?? Because then they wouldn't have to be reminded of what they did every time they hung out. Right? Love your theory btw, it makes total sense!

the body that Melissa buried looked to me like it had a wig on. I've often wondered if that was the real Charles. Since Cece knew Charles in Radley, she could easily take his place. I think that is why half the time her story does not add up.
I think Wren is A/ charles. but at season 3, why does the plot change to Emily digging out "Alisons'" bones. We all know its not really Alison's body, we assume its bethany's, but again why? Why would Charles dig up her bones if it was really bethany? I've heard theories that there may have been a DNA switch, like to switch the evidence, with maybe bethany's teeth, and the real body is Sara Harvey's. but we now know Sara's alive, so that doesn't explain the motive either. Pll has some explaining to fill up loopholes on 3x01.

I totally think "sarah" (if thats really her name) is involved as well! Although im not sure how she fits in. When we saw her in the dollhouse I was soo suspicious of her cos if A was so ready to kill mona, why would he keep sarah around? I felt like she was pretending to be trapped to get rescued without question
That whole A holding knife to her seemed wayy too staged and the liars got back to her room the pillows were arranged and she just happened to not be in bed? Seemed a little off.
Also now shes not with emily red coat is suddenly back. I know their used to be a few, but weve always seen a bit of blonde hair hanging out, notice this week we didnt see red coats hair? Saras recently cut her hair!
Whatever the answer is I hope it was worth waiting six seasons!

I feel like they had something so amazing in the beginning, and they tried to make the show so shocking and have all these twists, which ultimately ruined everything. It would've been so much better if Spencer or the girls killed Bethany or THOUGHT they did. All the things Ali said about the girls all knowing what happened that night no longer makes sense since Cece/ Freddie/ Charles/ Charolette is A. Like if they were really all asleep, how would they know? 6x10 did not do a good job of explaining that night, and for Cece to say Jason's flashback wasn't true is annoying. We shouldn't have seen Cece talking to Melissa if it wasn't true.
+Jaasmin Foote We also shouldn't have learned that Jason and CeCe made out for four years, since she allegedly was meant to be his brother/sister from the start. She knew him since childhood, he cared so much about her and she just ruined his life this whole time. WTF? The mind of Marlene King is a very dark place. This is a really good theory. I absolutely agree however I don't think the Emily, Spencer, Hanna, and Aria know what they did because one of them would have brought it up by now and if Alison put alot more drugs in there drinks then we think they probably don't remember a thing.
It makes alot of sense!! I actually do believe in this theory! Im also starting to believe that the two blonde little girls looks alot like Spencer!! The facial expression the eyess, It freaks me out just to see the ressemblance!! At first, they did look like cece!! but with Brown hair they will look more like spencer!! The liars are so good at hiding or denying the truth to a level were they believe their lies!! I think for Alison to believe the liars have something to do with cece murder, it is maybe a hint that they are capable of such an act. I don't know!! I just cant wait to know what happens!

This is really great theory! Actually, I never thought about this connection between 1x01 and 3x01, and that's weird because thanks to your video I can see now how much they're similar! From the last episode, where we saw blackhoodie (Charles?) and Red coat work together, I thought the Red coat is Bethany, but your theory makes far more sense, if Bethany was alive, it would mean there's another dead girl and that's little too crazy. So now I'm wondering who is Red coat, and it's the same person as Black widow or not? Would like Cece as the Red :) Can't wait for the finale!

This is actually an incredible theory! I have always asked why?!?! Why is Charles doing all this, and it can't just be about his obsession with Ali cause he tortures the liars way more, and this theory explain that all! I never even thought of that! However, the only thing is, I think, if this is true, the liars have no memory of it! Cause it just won't make sense if they remember! 1) because I honestly think, they think they are completely innocent and victims in this whether that's true or not. and 2) like you said, this story is from the liars perspective, so there is no way this would of never been brought up! I mean all the times they have wondered why this is happening. Remember how much Aria punished herself for killing Shania! and she was legit coming after them, so this would be like that too! If they remembered it, they would probably be all like, we deserve this and stuff! but it is a great theory, about the whole Spencer covered in blood in the doll house! and she doesnt remember maybe that's his way of tell her that, idk. I also think, if this isn't true, Aria has a split personality, or Spencer.. but I definitely think Spencer was in radley with Bethany and Charles as a kid...

Good theory, but Alison left as someone was threatening her. So unless Black Widow is not on the actual "A" team and purely wants revenge and she was after Alison, it wouldn't make much sense. I believe Red Coat is Bethany, and that's someone else's body. Maybe Sara's? This TV show is so confusing!
And if Soencer didn't kill Bethany and Mona did, who did she hit with the shovel? Sarah Harvey? How so if Sarah has been working for Cece all this time? It just doesn't add up!!

Which I think is crazy. There is no reason that Spencer should be having flashbacks of chasing someone in the woods, haven't blood all over her in the dollhouse, or that creepy Maddie dance if it doesn't pertain to the story. I hate how this show always TRIES to make characters look so guiltily. Like if Spencer didn't hurt or kill anyone, why waste our time with these mirages? Uh I'm so annoyed. You have some solid videos though. I'd rather watch you and other theories than to watch the real show now! Lol and you're right. That making out between siblings was definitely not the way to go. Great theory but i don't think Charles despise for Alison started after Bethany's murder ... in 6x06 Ali's dad tells her the reason they sent Charles to radley is cuz tried to kill her when she was a baby by drowning her in a bathtub so don't you think he started to plan to kill Alison since they were little.

I think your theories are great, they are build on logic arguments, unlike some other theories I've seen. I especially agree that Wren is Charles/A. I really don't see any other character it could be. I mean the access to Radley and to medical equipment, all those forged files, all the clues that point to a doctor, he was in the first episode. He is about the same age as Jason, which makes sense since he is one year younger than Charles. The only two things that bothers me about it is that he's living with Melissa all this time so how can she not know? Or she is the Black Widow and Black Swan and is working with him, maybe that could work.. But why would Melissa do that? I don't know. And for the other thing, how can he work at Radley and nobody recognizes him as Charles? I mean it was a pretty big deal when he and Bethany escaped so someone must remember what he looked like? But they will probably explain that, since I can't find enough proof for anyone else as A. But I don't think one of the girls hit Bethany. I do think Melissa and Charles think that Spencer hit Bethany and that Charles blames the girls for her death, which is probably one of the reasons he is tormenting the girls. But I think Cece hit Bethany. I don't know when this was but I remember Jason (I think it was Jason) saying that Cece was there too the night Bethany was killed. Why would that be mentioned if she didn't have something to do with the events of that night. Also, Cece visited Bethany in Radley, pretending to be Alison, which links her to Bethany once more. Great job on spotting the similarities between 1x01 and 3x01 though! Never would have noticed that :)

I agree with your theory but I think that it was Spencer and Emily. I think Aria is Bethany's cousin. Mental illness runs in her family. I think Aria could be red coat or the head of the A team. Maybe even Aria and Bethany were twins because we don't see Bethany until 6x10 something shocking has to be revealed.

Such a great theory. But then i dont think the girls ( collectivley) killed bethany. That would be great right. I think only one of them did. Possibly spencer. That girl ALWAYS jumps to conclusions.
