Flew back from Phoenix to Toronto on a 737-800NG. Had about the same seat. The max seems to be much quieter. P/S if your track was accurate, you flew right over my house. I hope you enjoy your time in our country. It is a great place to live.
When I flew Qantas from Sydney to Perth it reminded me of Toronto to Vancouver. 5 hours westbound and 4 hours eastbound. One cool difference I remember, is when I flew westbound to Perth from Sydney, the sun appears on the right (starboard) side of the plane, whereas in Canada, it appears on the left (port) side. Hemispheres ;-)
Thanks for the shoutout to Canadian viewers! I am glad you enjoyed aviating in my home country, especially your experience at YVR! It is my favourite airport!
I enjoyed the same-plane Air Canada 777-200LR service from Toronto to Sydney, which makes a brief 1.5 hr stop in Vancouver in 2008. Same single flight # through and luggage stays on plane - convenient. On the return Air Canada flight it was more work - I had to check bags in Vancouver and stop for 3.5 hours as a result of bag checking/customs. I found Qantas staff a bit friendlier.
I LOVE A&W and I ate there only once before in Virginia and I HOPE that they open one in my hometown of Mobile, Alabama eventually. INTERESTING information about your flight @Dj’s Aviation and VERY FASCINATING footage of the 737 MAX flight and of the airport in Canada.
Glad you had a great Canadian experience. You should definitely try out Flair Airlines, Lynx, Canada Jetlines, Porter, etc. Every airline is different and unique in their own ways.
IF you fly Westjet it will be very much the same. If you fly Swoop or Flair it will be the same with less legroom, Ryanair style fees, and terrible recovery from IROPS. Economy class in Canada is very much a bus in the sky. A non-negligible portion of any airfare in Canada is mandatory fees. Airport improvement fees and security fees that the carriers collect. They can easily total $70-$85 on a round trip ticket.
Paying for headphones is standard in north america (domestic) TBH even though AC has shortcomings i'd give them the number 2 spot in north america behind Delta and ahead of Westjet, American and United
I'm also in Montreal now! haha It's quite interesting that there are many domestic flights operated by large widebody aircraft in Canada. I took A330 from Vancouver and there are also 787 and 777 flights.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your experience on the 737MAX, the quiet experience is likely thanks to the LEAP engines being more efficient, and quieter than the older NG or CEO engines.
Nice review. Air Canada basically follows the other North American airlines service practices so paying for everything has become the standard domestic model across the continent. Not sure you'd fare much better with Westjet or any LCC or ULCC. It is what it is sadly; I also love YVR and not surprisingly its almost always rated as the one of the best if not the best airport in North America. The art alone is worth the visit. I would have been curious what you thought about YUL though. The domestic jetty here is the least impressive and is the only one that hasn't really been renovated but there are some newer gates that are up to date.. Hopefully post pandemic all their future plans (new terminal, jetty expansions etc) will be reactivated.
I find that they are one of the consistent brands in North America, you know what to expect and you usually get it... Much better than WS, AA, UAL in my honest opinion though Delta imo is better still
@@johnwellington5754 TBH I haven't flown in a plane lately but overall I agree with you at least based on my past experiences.. Not the absolute best and not the worse but a bit better than average for North America. One biggie is they have a variety of aircraft types and enough to back up passengers when there are issues with any of them. That's a luxury for the likes of a single aircraft type carrier like Sunwing.
I live in Portland Oregon and have family in Canada (Toronto/Ottawa) . I absolutely hate connecting through Vancouver or Calgary. The way customs works is if you are arriving into Canada you need to cross customs in your first arrival into Canada, which means customs checks at layover. Vancouver used to make you walk a ton with your checked bags. And with a short connection that sucks. One the reverse flight, you also go through customs in Canada on the leg that departs to the US. So you get dinged twice with customs check on layover. I hate it
Vancouver airport in the 90s had this airport tax. They didn’t want to “hide it in the ticket “, so you needed to wait in line between connections to pay this stupid tax. People hated it so much some people often ran through the line to skip it and not pay. I nearly missed my connection because of it. So yeah I have avoided that airport
I think the real problem here is Portland doesn't offer Customs preclearance at it's airport; it's simply too small in passenger movement to justify it.
AC new 220s are much more comfortable than it’s new Max’s. I flew on one their Max’s earlier this month in row 23 aisle seat. After the gentleman in front of me reclined his seat, I struggled to get out of my seat due the limited space between my seat’s side bar and his seat. Two woman in my row experience the same issue navigating from their middle and window seats to get by my seat to the aisle.
On my flights to the east there is no pojnt booking a Max flight as it's the inferior product. Í make sure I book the A220 flights. Wider seats quieter cabin, and a more airier fell to the cabin due to the bigger windows . Less time to load and unload the aircraft due to its smaller size and less time waitibg for luggage again due to smaller size. The A220 wins in every category over the Max. As for Westjet I flew them last November, (my company booked the flight). I found pretty much no difference between them and there LCC Zoom. Both had the same seat with very little seat recline . The only real difference was that the Zoom flight was a lot cheaper abd their internet worked where as Westjets did not.
One single difference to less expensive airlines in Canada. Ability to recover from technical problems. Having a very large fleet offers backup aircraft. Having an aircraft out of service takes a huge toll on service levels with the small companies. If you time is tight or your holiday only a week or so, having to wait a day for your flight makes the dollars of difference much smaller. As to the earbuds, while they give a price for them in tne menu, I have never been asked to oay for them on at least 8 flights
How old is this airport ? seems a bit old , like 80s 90s maybe , not that thats a bad thing , it seems like its got a warm sort of atmosphere to it compared to the concrete tile blocks that have become so common .
The latest areas were finished within the last 20 years but the domestic terminal is apart of the older terminal from the 80s and 90s the international and B gates are much newer
@@isaiahkruse7769 It kind of reminds me of what our old Durban International Airport looked like , has a sort of nostalgic feel to it . The new King Shaka International is kind of the modern look now , lots of tiles , concrete grey , no wood or fabric etc . A nice airport but feels very cold .
If you ever want to research Canadian airline trip reports, see Alex Praglowski Aviation youtube channel. Flair, Lynx and Swoop are ULCs worth trying. Cheers from Edmonton.
non alcoholic drinks are always free on Air Canada soft drinks juice etc and alcoholic drinks on international flights something Lufthansa has stopped doing.
Please fly WestJet or Swoop, Amazing experience you won't be disappointed. I've flown Air Canada many times and was overwhelmed with their unprofessionalism as staff and careless flight experience. I would have to get an insane deal to fly Air Canada again. WestJet is where it is at!
I disagree, WS has gone down the tubes in recent years... The company culture is equally as toxic as AC's corporate culture and the removal of Seatback entertainment was a huge mistake for the YYC based Airline.
I have never had a good flight on air Canada and will never use them again. What’s worse is their flight staff is so disgruntled that they could care less and only provide the minimum of service.

Loved the trip report, was cool to see as I’m from Toronto! I haven’t flown in a while but excited to fly Air Canada again soon!

Vancouver airport is indeed a very clean and neat airport, unlike most North American major airports 🤪

On the take-off, looking out to the wing, I was reminded of the Twilight Zone, halfway expecting to see a gremlin perched on the wing...
Just a couple years ago everyone was up in arms about this plane and now they are in the sky everyday.
Welcome to Montreal! Bonjour!
DJ you should do more of these (when you fly that is)
My fave airplane is Fat Albert, the C-130 for the Blue Angels!

Would Boeing have done a clean sheet narrowbody if there was a butterfly effecr in 2011 that would've caused American Airlines to cease operations?
Almost certainly because that’s what the plan was and maintained for at least 3 months after the A320neo family launch

what is you favorit airline air canada or west jet
The safety card has always been marked 737-8, even before the crashes and grounding
Yep...thats the plane! It's not to be confused the the 737-800, they call the MAX 8 the dash 8

C17 Galaxy.
What does that mean?
nice catah! Will the air canada fly 737 max to london?
Yes June I think
this 737 max fly Toronto to london only 8 hour

Seeing aisles, seating, and airport helps round out the report. Air Canada stewardesses must practice the dirty look.

Those are fries, not chips.
He’s British
has the route from London Heathrow to St Johns been discontinued permanently???
You should absolutely try the A220, it's so much better in every respect.

Air Canada have 5 more 737max in storage to deliver hopefully this year
I flew an United 737 max 9 from lax to sfo to connect on my Asiana flight to Korea. It was pretty decent. I made it out alive.
Alive 😂

None of this is true
second person here
3+3 in any 737? Nope, very narrow seat. Every seat in an A320 series 3+3 is an inch wider.
Just fly Delta back to Sydney from LAX much more comfortable
I will NEVER fly the Boeing 737 Max ✈️😉
I've flown the Max 8 seven times this year and the 9 MAX three times. It's safe.
Good for you : )
Yes you WILL fly the Boeing 737 MAX 😄🛩🌏
@Riley for most its not
