('06-'16) Yamaha YZF-R6 First Oil Change: DIY Maintenance
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 11 окт 2024
- Today I change the oil in my 2007 Yamaha R6! Pretty simple project to maintain your motorcycle. This should be the same for all R6 model years. Very easy process and hopefully this video can help you on your own bike! It's something that can be done in the garage to save you money from taking it to the dealer!

The 2008 R6 (13s) oil filter has proven to be the hardest oil filter to remove of all the bikes I have owned. I tried numerous tools before having success with one of those ratchet style removal tools with the 3 angled knurled arms. These tools have mixed reviews but it worked for me with both removal and also fitting. I found that a bicycle inner tube wrapped round the filter to protect from the knurled arms helps to protect the filter when tightening and a 3/4 turn once screwed on is all that's needed.
I had a 2015. I miss riding it a lot. Only sold it because I was moving from California to Minnesota. Valvoline oil works the best on this motor and clutch. Great video btw.
Thanks for sharing! I’ve never had any issues with the oil I use in 8 years. They all work fine.
I just got a 2013 R6 and this video was a huge help!
Sweet! Enjoy the bike!
Video is still helping folks!
‘06 R6 Raven
Thanks 🙏
No problem 👍 Super easy to change things on this!
Good stuff man, time to change the oil on my bike , your video is super helpful and did provide some insight , I may just flush out the coolant while I'm at
Great video, just did a change of my 2010 R6. Don't know if it's mentioned but be careful buying oil filters with the nut on the back. The shift linker was verrrrrrry close to not making it with the k&n filter I got.
Oh cool. I've never had an issue with the K&N filters.
Very clear explanation. I will do a change soon on my R6, looks very easy. I have K&N oil filter and a OEM. I was thinking that the K&N might not fit because of the nut being too close to the shift rod, we'll see .
Gad you liked the video! Fits fine on my bike. I've gone between HiFlow and K&N. Both work well
@@BrosFOURRSpeed alright cool! I do have an aftermarket shiftrod though, because I have a quick shifter installed
Oh gotcha! The bolt sticks out about .5 inch. You could measure to see if its close!
Nice vid. The part w the dog face got me🤣 like he was just expecting to be filmed
haha yeah Maddie loves being in the vids!
NIce video man. Big thanks very informative can't wait to get my R6
Glad I could help! It's been sure a fun bike, you'll love it!
Used to change my oil on a cbr 600 2004 then got a Daytona 2016 most difficult to change oil but the r6 look a bit easier like the cbr
Thanks for the info. Great video👍🏾 I used it to do my 1st oil change on my 2011 R6 yzf
Glad it helped!! That's awesome! You will enjoy the bike for sure!! I still have mine and it's a ton of fun!
What if I have a red bike? Instructions weren't clear. House on fire.
Why would the color of the bike effect how to change the oil?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed lol you mentioned remove the "blue" fairing... It was a joke/meme
@@HustleHabit ahhh. Good one 🙃
awesome job , when will we be seeing vids on that bike cant wait for that.
Still working on getting it registered and getting all my gear. So it might be a week or so.
You can do it without taking anything off except for one fairing bolt I’ve been doing it like that for 10 years. Spend more time riding then wrenching
Yeah this was my first time changing the oil on the bike. Pretty easy to do
Everyone saying this is kinda difficult. Try changing the spark plugs champs.
Yeah the oil change is nothing for the R6. I've never done plugs on it. But I'm assuming you just remove the gas tank and you can see them?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed yeah on my 07 lift tank and air box, remove a hose or two. It’s really not that bad either it’s just so tight in there it’s maddening. You’ll need a short extension and and good swivel joint with a spark plug socket or I recommend a magnet.
Haha did my sparks last year.. stripping down to them is not too bad... getting the fricking coils off on some of them was a painfull experience for my hands.. bit rage inducing tbh 🤣
I just did my plugs and coils, it’s not difficult.
@@TylerSpite it’s a lot easier after the first time, I prefer dropping the radiator and going in from the bottom but that’s just me
Helpfully video awesome thank you will help me with ma r6❤
Glad you liked it!
Great video 👍
Thanks 👍
Would you be able to post a video of chain adjustment for the r6
It’s super simple, loosen the axle nut ( huge nut ) then tighten the screws on the swing arm
Thanks 👍
No problem 👍
Old mechanics trick. when you can't get the oil filter off is to drive a screw driver threw it and use that to turn it
Not a bad trick!
I love this guy 😊
lol thanks!
Thenks, very nice, helps a lot for the 1st oil change.
Glad to help!
I wish I had one 😔 R6 2000 model any year
Me too 😔😒
Just save up and buy one
Bros FOURR Speed
Can you do a spark plug change video
Nice Job, Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Great video - very helpful, thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Easier to to change the oil by just taking a couple of bolts out of the fairing and leaving it on and pulling it back no need to take the hole faring off
Hey, I know I'm super late to the party but I have a question about the Motorcycle Stand. So I see you have a pit bull. I have MZS Spools and I purchased a cheapy HFreight but the stand doesn't work with them. So with that being said does it matter which PitBull I purchase or will they fit the MZS spools completely?
I would think it’ll fit. The jack points I have a significantly smaller than on my brother CBR and it works for both of them. The curve on the stand can accommodate several sizes, I’m not sure how the stand you have works.
Love the channel guys! Thanks a lot
Thanks for watching!
Thank you bro.
Next time i ll try it myself. Not much use of tool i see so it show be easy.
No problem! It's not a hard process to do!
It's easy but just take your time and you'll get it!
Hi bros ! I understand this is a old video but where do you buy the oil filter? And is there a certain model of filter ?
Does our generation (I have an 07 too) have a oil light reset?) sorry I didn't have enough time to watch entire video at the moment
Not that I've ever seen lol. I just use my trip B as my oil and A for gas. Once a year or 5k miles I change the oil
Curious to know, can you swap the old gauge cluster for a newer like a 2012 one?
I'm sure you could! Just depends on what you want to spend and how the wiring will be.
Got it. Thanks a lot 💪@@BrosFOURRSpeed
@@oumotorr Sweet!
Is it necessary to change oil filter each and every change oil? And how many mileage before you change oil?
Yes I would change the filter when you change the oil too, that way you don't have old oil mixing with the new oil. I usually change it once a year because I don't put that many miles on my bike (maybe around 3-4k a year).
some new indicators would look nice
My oil light keeps coming on shortly after starting. It will shut off if i kill the bike one or twice. Oil level is good and oil itself is pretty fresh. Any help is appreciated.
Hmmm, the only thing I would think of is oil level too low. Maybe the sensor is going bad?
The oil level is awesome, and as i said it's newer oil. The oil sensors in these bikes...are they similar to a cars oil pressure sensor going bad? I ask cause i found no videos about oil pressure sensors for bikes.
Rick G. Yamahas are weird. If you ride an R1 too hard their oil lights will come on all the time. It’s probably something similar. My oil light on my 2014 r6 has never come on till I put it in the garage today and I think I also don’t have any actual oil issues
@@jar7d i figured out how to stop it.. Simply over fill the oil.. Full to the dipstick, and then added a half quart. Hasn't come on since
Rick G. Lol I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic but I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to do that 😂
i saw that you don't have the catalitic converter. the cables from the original exup are removed as well? i have the same configuration :)))
When I bought the bike it already had a mid pipe. So previous owner did that one. I just sold this tho. Owned it for 7 years. Great bike!
I have a 08 r6. I see a OEM oil filter on Amazon that says 5GH-13440-60 ? Is this okay to use on my bike. The one in the video says 13440-36 I believe
Whatever Yamaha says is OEM, is what I'd recommend. I've used Hi-Flow and K&N
Hey man is this the how it is in an r1?
Always mark your shifter alignment... dudes probably having crazy shifting issues
I've never had any issues with it.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed There are marks on it from the factory so you can easily put it back the right way.
Yamaha makes it such an extra hassle for work on these bikes compared to Honda, Kawi
It's a little bit of a hassle, but not too bad. On my brother CBR600 he has to do the foil trick as well and take off the lower fairings, but not the shifter linkage.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed had the 600rr before my R6 and everything just seemed more accessible. Especially when you're at the track and trying to get things done quick. Even the fairings seem to be a bigger pain just to get off on the R6. Still a great performing bike tho
@@jwick6215 Yeah I can see that, crazy how much different they are for being a similar bike!
“Dont bend the plastic”
*continues to bend*
Don't bend it too much*
Thank you Bro.. nice Tutorial
Sir, what's the difference between 204 and 303 oil filters? Pls 🙏🏼
Not really sure to be honest. Just get what is recommended for your bike
Experience on K&N? I heard there were problems on these. Most people recommend to keep using the OEM filter
I've been using K&N filter on my vehicles for the last 10 years. Never had an issue
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I thinks the flow is good but there were fitment isues. I'm also trying K&N next oil change. Air filter wil be OEM.
You checked your oil while the bike was vertical, right? Meaning someone was holding the bike upright as if you were at light. Checking it while on the kickstand causes your readings to be off meaning you added more oil than it needed.
Yea it was up on the rear stand for that.
Bros FOURR Speed even a rear stand will throw it off slightly but it's not a big deal. I'm just OCD about things so I make the final check while sitting on the bike and keeping it directly upright
yzfBrandon same here I have OCD
Perhaps I'm following the manual too closely, but you're not supposed to use a rear stand for oil changes.
As long as the bike is pretty flat, I don't see why you can't use it. Plus it makes it easier to have the kickstand up and out of the way.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Could be because the drain is on the left side, so being on the kickstand keeps the oil flowing toward the drain. As I said, I may be following the manual too closely (I even torque everything to spec, which is something that's almost never done on YT vids, lol).
Anyway, I just feel it's worth mentioning, after seeing a lot of YT vids suggest doing R6 chain tension using a rear stand, which is definitely wrong. I've taken the approach of strictly following the manual, but checking out youtube vids for preview of what will be encountered, naw mean.
TBH your tightening the oil filter too much. Once the seal touches you only need about a halfish turn by hand and its good. Then you can get it off with your hand ez pz. Too many people over tighten them
I've always tightened them by hand as tight as I can. Never had one issue not being able to remove it. Hand tight is never too tight. Been doing at home oil changes like this for a decade now on all my vehicles
What size oil filter do i need?? Hp 1000 what im so confused please help
I actually just did another oil change on the R6 yesterday. I used the K&N 204-1
I’ve read K&N are not so good for R6, they tend to blow up, can’t ever go wrong with OEM, oil filters are giving you more hp
@@BayArea.R6 I went with K&N has been fine
Where i fiind side stickers or The Project of stickers
I'm not too sure. But I bet Ebay and Amazon have some OEM style graphics for these
I'm planning to to get rid of my zx6r 636 and buying a 370z but don't want to regret it, which do you prefer that is more fun to play with...your bike or the 370z?
As a car, my Nismo is fantastic, and I think its the best sports car for the price. I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 4 years old, so I needed to add a street bike, since the motocross days are pretty limited. Don't have enough street bike experience to say if its better than the car, but they are both fun!
I personally enjoy my r6 more than my genesis, and evo; but at times I do get bored of my bike just because there’s a lot of limitations to it I.e a lot of girls are too scared to ride, weather in California is a trip as some days it rains or it’s super windy, but being on my bike gives me peace. Plus a 370z is a bit slow, so when trading it you have to keep in mind you won’t be as fast as before. Did you trade it btw?
Nissan is garbage. I've owned 2 350Z's and have driver 370 Z's. Bike all the way
Hey bro i just bought a yamaha r6 2018 how often you change oil
On a Yamaha R6 always get the oil changed/bike serviced every 4,000 miles.
Good bud brahhh
Good vid lmfao autocorrect
Haha thanks for checking it out! Do you have a bike?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed yah a 2009 r6 slightly modified 🤫😂
Think this would work with a 2002 r6?
I'm sure it would be pretty similar. THe fairings might be slightly different to remove to access the drain plug and filter
Bro please clean the dust from the chain
It's probably a combination of grease or some dirt. It wouldn't have any dust lol, I ride it a lot!
beautiful bike man. I'm looking into an 06' R6 with 13K miles for $4500
Nice, thats a great price
Does anyone know the larger hex bolt right below the stator cover in the middle
I'm not too sure. Maybe there are schematics you could find?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Found out it’s the oil galley
how much ml to change oil filter 2.6 /2.8 litre
Whatever I put in, in the video is how much oil it takes.
stupid engine bolt
apparently you open it clockwise (unlike everything else on this planet)
time to replace the damn oil pane
The drain plug? Everything I took off for the oil change was lefty loosey, righty tighty
i like how you said lotus evora and toyota camry because the lotus uses a toyota engine lol
Haha yeah. My brother bought the Camry oil filter tool for his Evora lol
its a good engine!!!
good power to weight
Damn that sucks. Seems like it's pretty inconvenient :(
Hey, which tools used?
The ones shown in the video. Basic socket set and wrench
Mazda 323f. Plizzzzzzz
How hard is it to mention which way a bolt turns? Not a single mention of that. A tutorial would do exactly that
Do you not know lefty loosy, righty tighty? If you don't know that much. Perhaps letting a shop work on your vehicle is the best option ;)
So basically a huge PITA….
No not really, it's pretty simple.
Next time show how u let oil bolt go
You just hold on to it while you twist it off.
This is why im buying a naked bike fk this chit man
Really only takes 10 mins to get to the filter and get it out. Don't let this sway you if you like riding this style bike more
Oil bolt on the bottom?side? Were
I showed that at 2:07.
Good day 👋 please give me a motorcycle 🏍 🙏
lol, just keep working hard, and you'll be able to buy an awesome bike!
Good looking bike lame oil quality 🙃
Been using it for years, zero issues.
Always loved riding but ever since becoming a physician and witnessing what happens after the ER, I will never ride again. You may become a great rider but the idiot in a cage... can end or make you wish your life ended.
The Fulcrum oh yah, I know there will be idiots around. Even when I'm in my car, I'm always watching every single car near me
yea just be really vigilant and careful whenever you ride. + Suggestions to expand watcher base, maybe could start some small car restore/build, maybe an older 240z or foxbody or whatever else could potentially get a new sub base/ keep growth coming / generate content for more videos.
The Fulcrum We have some ideas on projects, maybe not a full project car just yet though.
Yamaha brand filter but not using Yamalube. Well, lost some credibility there my guy.
How so!? It's all the same, there oil is probably manufactured by the same company. There's only like two or three oil companies, so it's insignificant on the brand. Plus it's cheaper and does the exact same thing...
Worst oil change video ever
Can you be more specific on why?? It’s pretty much a step by step.
I’m used to dirt bikes, this is some bullshit😂
Umm, what exactly is BS? An oil change is an oil change
What type of oil did you use ?
Itachi_Heartnet watch the video and you’ll see
Every when or at how many miles do you recoment changing oil?
I'll be doing this once a year. I'm coming up on 1 year with the bike. So next month I'll do the next oil change. I've gone 3k miles.
At every 3k miles is what I do.
Great video 👍👍
Thanks!
