  • This is a quick and dirty fix on a 98-03 Dodge durango with rear heat. This is only if you don't care about rear AC and only want to get the heat working in the back.

Without the blend door you are getting a full blend of hot and cold which equals warm and not really a lot of heat in -20 to -30. A Cheap fix would be to just cut a hole in the plastic to get at the actuator, remove it and make a manual lever that switches it from full AC to Full Heat. McIver it. If the blend door is broken off like yours was, then you have to take the thing apart which is a beootch. But you could still make a shaft that you can epoxy the into the blend door, slip it back in place and attach a manual lever to it instead of having the electronic actuator. These vehicles are too old and made too piss poor to spend a lot of money on. If you make the cut out neat enough you can always glue stops to the back side of the plastic around the inside of the hole you made to give the piece you cut out something to sit against and then put a few stainless screws in to hold it there.

Nice video. Exact same problem in my 2003 Durango. Since I live in the south, probably going to configure mine for AC only. Really not easy to find replacement parts. Except for a pair of doors that cost $150 because they are aluminum.

Yes indeed. I took one look at that price and was like nope, not worth it for me i'll improvise lol

coolbluelights FYI, I just went to a pick-a-part junkyard and scored a pair of doors for $10. Worked perfectly. Also picked up some other parts while I was at it.

We've been trying to find a video like this for the longest. Maybe this will help with the no heat issue for the rear too? Thanks for this video!

This is in the rear. I've found though removing the blend door makes it blow lukewarm air but it's better than cold. if I try to fix it again i'll do a follow up video

@@coolbluelights Ok, I'll take lukewarm over ice cold air anytime.

Thanks for posting this video.. not sure I'll mess with taking all that apart right now.. Had no idea it was such a mess in there, but had a good guess.. :) Right now I've got to get my system flushed and fix a leaking radiator. Hope to get the old 01' Durango on the road for winter use!

Yeah I actually went back in a while later and put in a cardboard "baffle" to block off any air to the A/C condenser which helped a bit more.

Yeah, there's no problem with that. I'm getting plenty of hot coolant to the rear.
