My Grandfather, was from Kingsport, Tn and actually watched Mary the Elephant die while sitting on top of a railroad car. He gave us some additional details that I won’t mention because they are even more horrific. We hated this story. Poor Mary.
RIP Mary , so cruel she was treated poorly and protected herself. If the owner loved her so much he would've snuck her away from danger. Some finale Charlie . 😢
19:40 Lol I just won the silent bet with myself, that those freaks were typical guys to get killed in prison - I mean just imagine having to share a "shįtbox"* with some random "know it all" kid 24/7/365 - this'd drive the most patient inmate(s) insane over time and I don't blame them at all. * Aka a cell = usually a very limited confined space.
Animals are just as heartless when they have to survive. And humans ARE animals. BTW, it's scientifically proven that chimps do kill for pleasure or for revenge. Elephants kill for revenge. Lions kill hyenas for the same reason. And a male lion will kill and eat a female lioness's innocent cubs if they are not his, so he can replace them with his own. Now who's being heartless? Don't be stupid. Nature is just as heartless. Grow up and get over it.
I did listen to Mary the elephant but for the 1st time ever I jumped past the really upsetting bit, I love elephants too much. How about hunters being eaten by the things they're stalking Mr Ballen, or am I being goulish?

Wow. I like how all of these ppl can listen to Bobby's story, murdered for literally no reason at 9 years old, but say Mary's story is the only one that truly disturbed me. People who feel more empathy for animals than humans, especially children ones, are disturbing af.

My former college professor, John Logan, wrote the play "Never the Sinner" about them. They were also lovers and Loeb constantly manipulated Leopold because Leopold was in love with him. Interesting story.

A local town of Chambersburg Pa also had a circus elephant killing. In this case the elephant escaped the circus and went mad. Police weapons ( I believe they carried .38 revolvers then) had no real impact on it. A local hunter ultimately shot and killed it. I won’t mention his name here but I still have the public opinion newspaper article that tells of the shooting. Completely different circumstances than what happened in the story. RIP Mary😢

About the Tina and Gabe; story, (the diving accident,) I m thinking that perhaps Gabe was telling the truth I m a certified diver from many years and I remember that a hundred foot dive is something to be respected. you can dive to about 30 feet without worrying too much about safety. You can resurface and dive again pretty much all day long and be just fine, if you are in good health. Any deeper, however, and you need to start doing some math. See, when you dive the gasses start building up in your blood stream. Down to 30 feet is equal to one atmosphere(if memory serves) so very little gas accumulation. Passed that, gasses start building up, and the deeper you go the more gas is present. It wont affect you while you re at depth, (again, if you're healthy) but as you go back up toward the surface, it definitely will and you must do one or more "decompression stops" and if you don't you will get The Bends . Explaining The Bends can be done simply by comparing it to opening a bottle of soda. When the cap is on the gasses are in solution and kept that way by the pressure. Unscrew the cap (ie, release the pressure) and bubbles come rising to the top, and your drink gets all fizzy. That's what happens to your blood when you go back to the surface: it gets fizzy a.k.a The Bends. It is serious and can be deadly. To avoid The Bends you do decompressions stops as you rise, They vary in length depending on how deep you went, and if you dove really deep you might need several decomp. stops. That when you need to do your math, , , either that or you read the chart that tells you how many stops and how long they should last. Getting back to Tina and Gabe, they went down to 100 feet, then had to go back up. Did they climb too fast, did they skimp on their decom. stops? Did Tina have a touch of the bends whn she first surfaced? It might affected her more than her husband since she ws not as powerful a diver as he was and also a lot more anxious, (trust me, a 100 foot dive can be intimidating to a new diver) Now, they dive a second time. Multiple dives complicate things badly (more math) You get a second helping of gasses in suspension, and BUBBLES if the bends were present.( I'm not sure whether the bubbles are re-absorded when the hi pressure returns) I can imagine that one left over bubble might cause an ambolism. did Gabe know that or was he just in too much of a hurry? Did he try to help her or was he giving her a Death Hug? It could be either , which is why the Australian and American courts disagreed on his culpability but I lean toward an accidental death caused by neglect or ignorance (after all, HE could have died as well)
I listen to a lot of bad things. Murders, torturing, gore. Real bad gore. But...the elephant story was just way too damn much, I'm sorry. I wish all the people who were included in the execution would've died of the hands of the worst killers, the ones that experimented on others. I wish they'd all get experimented on and be sane through every second of it. Just to be barely kept alive. For years. And for them to then be let go and die of natural causes. Mangled and disgusting and mentally sick, incapable of taking care of themselves because of their injuries and in the worst pain imaginable. And all alone.
Or, you can stop expecting the world to cater to your needs then work on practicing better judgement. His stories usually don't have happy endings & he's talking about an animal. Gee, I wonder if some messed up shit's gonna happen to this animal. Your well being is your responsibility.
I’m glad he ultimately got caught, but I just don’t understand how Dave got away with it, even if only for a short time, for any length of time. The story just sounded odd and made no sense the first time I heard it, and seems to make less every time I hear it again. The only thing I can figure is that the investigators, officers, or whoever was initially assigned to get statements and fill out the report on Tina’s de*th, were somewhere between incompetent and lazy, or just had no business being assigned that job. And the fact that it was ever declared an accident was a direct result of their oversight, because apparently they didn’t go even one single step out of their way to ensure what they were getting from Dave was the full picture. I mean, those witnesses, the ones who saw Dave hugging Tina in an odd way and what apparently looked to them like her trying to get away from him, it’s not like they were some hard to locate witnesses, someone who they would have to put effort into tracking down. They were just there, in the water, close enough to see what happened when she died. Under just about any circumstances, how do you not at least just ask the other divers if they were nearby, if they saw anything, and if they did, what did they see. They could’ve uncovered that information from the beginning. Then add the story Dave was giving them to the other obvious reasons they should’ve asked the other divers if they saw anything, and the fact that it seemingly never even crossed their mind’s to dig any deeper and verify Dave’s account is just bafflingly negligent. He told them Tina started to panic, after which he loses his mouthpiece. A few seconds later he finds it, is able to breathe again, and looks up to see that she had floated all of, what, 5 feet away from him? 10 tops? And then, with her being just a few feet away, knowing there’s a good chance she is currently unable to breathe, instead of swimming the few feet over to her to see if he can help her, which could possibly have been as simple as giving her air and helping her to the surface, he chooses to spend several minutes going to the surface to get her help? Short of very specific circumstances where you somehow know for a fact you can’t help them, and that someone else can help them by doing something you can’t, swimming over to them yourself would be the instinctive action of most people on earth, decent people anyway, when that person is someone you love. Yet he wastes several minutes while she’s unable to breathe going to get someone else to do something he could easily have done just as well? Choosing not to swim to her after re-establishing his air supply, but to the surface is not rational decision if what you want is to save them. It’s not the smart decision. It’s the “Why the f**k did you do that? What exactly did you think they were going to do, be *able* to do, that you couldn’t? What exactly did you think the minutes it took you, the minutes she spent down on the ocean floor unable to breathe, were going to buy you?’ decision. And how that didn’t prompt them to spend all of maybe 15 minutes talking to other divers to see if anyone could verify his story, at which point they would’ve learned then what they didn’t learn until months later, and only because those divers they should have talked to took the initiative to put what they saw out there. The guy almost got away with m*rdering his wife. They failed Tina. She was almost denied justice because they entirely overlooked what they should have learned on day 1, and would have if they’d put forth any effort whatsoever.
And to make matters worse the chain actually broke the first time an sent her to the ground breaking her hip in the process an they had to redo it...😢😢😢😢 this is just so wrong it wasn't even her fault the guy was not fit an jabbed her accessed tooth poor Mary

What a horrible story. All because some asshole couldn't treat the elephant right. All of this could have been avoided. I would have just lied and said that I have already gotten rid of Mary.
I needed this rn.
Even if it's recent stories, IDGAF, I need Mr Ballen's voice rn.
❤
My daughter is sobbing over Mary. Mr Ballen please do animal cruelty warnings
Thank you to all of you who talked about Mary…. I was able to skip that part because I could see where the story was headed. So glad things are different now.
Thank goodness I never experienced Charlie's LOVE. Poor, poor Mary!!!!!!
This broke my heart, the poor elephant looking at her owner that she clearly loved, RIP beautiful Mary 😢
Ok so, who else shed a few tears for poor Mary?? I know i did. 😢😢😢
Yeah that was f'd up
Totally. Tears and then rage. What kind of a "man" could do something so horribly cruel
Mary’s story is heartbreaking! 😢
The story about Mary was extremely upsetting to me! 😢 I do wish there had been some kind of warning before the story was told! I am trying to stay positive in my life and stories like this do not bring me peace! I've never complained about any other mrballen's bc I am huge fan.
Due,to your comment and others,I was able to stop listening to this 1 Hour . Thank you for making this comment 🙏🏼
The Mary story made me cry at work
Why does “life in prison” always mean, 2-3 decades…. then we let you out?
The story about Mary is the first and only Mr.Ballen story ive had to stop. I cant listen to the rest of it.
Story about Mary is the only one I couldn’t listen to . It tells just how disgusting and cruel humans are .
OMG That bastard killed Mary who trusted him. I hate this evil world and a lot of people who do horrible terrible things for money 😭
A hundred years ago. Literally. 😊❤
🙏🙏🙏 He's back - love these videos for work travel. Ty!
Not sure if you knew this but this isn't his channel lol
@@G4rfield oh I know, I just love the format he makes for the content
Poor Mary... 😭
My Grandfather, was from Kingsport, Tn and actually watched Mary the Elephant die while sitting on top of a railroad car. He gave us some additional details that I won’t mention because they are even more horrific. We hated this story. Poor Mary.
I ❤ John Ballen
Mary's story is heartbreaking... Humans r evil on earth😢
RIP Mary , so cruel she was treated poorly and protected herself. If the owner loved her so much he would've snuck her away from danger. Some finale Charlie . 😢
19:40
Lol I just won the silent bet with myself, that those freaks were typical guys to get killed in prison - I mean just imagine having to share a "shįtbox"* with some random "know it all" kid 24/7/365 - this'd drive the most patient inmate(s) insane over time and I don't blame them at all.
* Aka a cell = usually a very limited confined space.
You mean Frank and Nathan? The pieces of crap from 1924??
Heartless humans 😢
😅
I wish there was a warning on this one. This totally devastated me. Love his storytelling... so addicted to his videos. Although I wish I would have had an option to sit this one out.
Mary's story absolutely had me ugly crying at work
Something to keep in mind a bullet from a gun wouldn’t break Mary’s skin but Red’s rod did! RED GOT WHAT HE DESERVED MARY DID NOT!!!😢😢😢
Hear, hear! 👏🏼
A bullet from a gun wouldn't break Mary's skin but Red's rod did? That makes absolutely no sense.
Dude finally got his photos into that magazine. He gave his life to fulfill his dream.
Strangling an elephant like that, an elephant that still trusted her trainer, for the sake of a bloodthirsty crowd...who are the real "animals" here? Think about it.
Wow. I like how all of these ppl can listen to Bobby's story, murdered for literally no reason at 9 years old, but say Mary's story is the only one that truly disturbed me. People who feel more empathy for animals than humans, especially children ones, are disturbing af.
Mary actually had a bad tooth an when that AHole jabbed her with that poker he hit her right in her Absessed tooth really hurting her ... an that's why she did that .idk about anyone else but that would drive anyone mad . This story is so sad made me cry
I loved Mr ballens stories so much but I hated marys story. Was really distressing to hear. No to any more stories like this 💔
Yayyyyy your face is back
An hour of Mr ballen. Isn't that like one episode lol.
I think Fineus would be proud that his skull and tamping iron are proudly displayed at the museum. 🕊️🫶🌻
That story about Leopold and Lobe was a very infamous Thrill Kill. A horrific story
My former college professor, John Logan, wrote the play "Never the Sinner" about them. They were also lovers and Loeb constantly manipulated Leopold because Leopold was in love with him. Interesting story.
It has been over half an hour since I watched this story and my blood is boiling with anger for Mary! She trusted him to take care of her! He chose money! I hope the SOB still burns in Hell!! Please, please, please skip that type of story, or provide a forewarning. I'm seriously enraged. I love your stories, but damn man. Taking a break.
That was so sad. I cried a bit T.T
I cannot stop crying for Mary. What a terrible betrayal by the ignorant human beings that were sworn to care for her.
I’m a big follower of your stories BUT first I’m an animal lover YOU SHOULD HAVE WARNED the audience about this horrible story like you usually do with others that may upset sensitive people, I’m very upset and horrified about this disgusting end of Mary life… I wouldn’t want to hear anything like this voluntarily PLEASE edit this and WARN the audience. I just want to cry, this is very upsetting.
Like I just stated in a previous comment...
Or, you can stop expecting the world to cater to your needs then work on practicing better judgement.
His stories usually don't have happy endings & he's talking about an animal. Gee, I wonder if some messed up shit's gonna happen to this animal.
Your well being is your responsibility.
Well two things r for sure: phinius is as badass as badass can be... And he probably wasn't using his brain all that much even before the injury😂
So glad I discovered this channel. I used to listen to Creepypastas but now every narrator is so lazy that they're using AI to regurgitate the same story over and over again and AI generated voices. This is the only good channel left for creepy stories and mysteries.
RIP Mary😢
I felt so bad for mary the elephant 😔 for years doing her job then with a cruel owner hitting her, she obviously snapped!
Then an angry crowd shouting killer🤦🏻♂️ people are absolutely stupid at times. Total bast*rds! 💯🤬🤬🤬🤬
The grizzly bear didn't see him as a threat - but as dinner, yes.
Yeah he loved her alright smh Charlie didn’t love Mary cause if he did he wouldn’t have murdered her and he wouldn’t have hired a man and allow him to mistreat her she was only protecting herself and then the human she thought cared for her killed her😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I cant listen to the end of this,...i have a feeling he is going to kill poor Mary on the tracks ....people are atupid and disgusting with their treatment of animlas !
my thoughts exactly, i hope they are judged for this if they have already passed. how dare they mistreat an elephant like this.
Of all the stories youve ever told, Mary was the worst. I absolutely despise people that harm animals.
what about unborn children?
@@sshreddderr9409 take your political crap somewhere else.
@@Phoenix-J81 no, it needs to be right here. your response is why the word is cruel. if people dont actually want to talk and call about immorality when it becomes "political", then they are not moral, and just part of a brainwashed cult that tells them to dismiss anything not approved by the propaganda apparatus. not judging or wanting to judge immorality is as bad as committing it.
The story about Mary was horrible.
The ultimate betrayal of a friend is the worst.😢
I’ve never cried over a Mr Ballen story before but Mary 😢
Heartbreaking.
Oh goody, Mr ballin, Crocs too lol 😂
Crazy to imagine something like that with Mary. Terrible
Good wish from Finland
I literally watch these all the time. Mary's story makes me sick. I really can't listen to it. How dare they do that to an animal.
About the Tina and Gabe; story, (the diving accident,) I m thinking that perhaps Gabe was telling the truth
I m a certified diver from many years and I remember that a hundred foot dive is something to be respected.
you can dive to about 30 feet without worrying too much about safety.
It might affected her more than her husband since she ws not as powerful a diver as he was and also a lot more anxious, (trust me, a 100 foot dive can be intimidating to a new diver)
Now, they dive a second time.
It could be either , which is why the Australian and American courts disagreed on his culpability but I lean toward an accidental death caused by neglect or ignorance (after all, HE could have died as well)
I don't understand why any of the other grouping rush down in grab her! She was obviously in distress.😮
Leopold & Loeb were geniuses but they were
Evil geniuses.
They where disgusting humans
That was awful. I hate when animals are punished for the cruelty of humans. My heart is broken.
If I remember correctly, I believe that a movie was made of this case or a very similar case.
Which one
Mary deserved better
I listen to a lot of bad things. Murders, torturing, gore. Real bad gore. But...the elephant story was just way too damn much, I'm sorry. I wish all the people who were included in the execution would've died of the hands of the worst killers, the ones that experimented on others. I wish they'd all get experimented on and be sane through every second of it. Just to be barely kept alive. For years. And for them to then be let go and die of natural causes. Mangled and disgusting and mentally sick, incapable of taking care of themselves because of their injuries and in the worst pain imaginable. And all alone.
Two mistakes MrBallen, Richard Loeb was murdered in prison, Nathen Leopold lived to be paroled.
Can you please give a warning for videos that has animals dying ... I cannot listen to those.
Or, you can stop expecting the world to cater to your needs then work on practicing better judgement.

I've never once cried during one of his stories until today I had to walk off the floor during my shift
And to make matters worse the chain actually broke the first time an sent her to the ground breaking her hip in the process an they had to redo it...😢😢😢😢 this is just so wrong it wasn't even her fault the guy was not fit an jabbed her accessed tooth poor Mary
Why would you tell us that? We're already upset over her
Do not know why they didn't charge Gabe with murder manslaughter is a joke
Mary did nothing wrong
Mary😢😢😢😢😢😢
Wow I can't believe his family let them put his skull on display at a medical school of any kind. Poor Phineas
Wow … all that potential thrown away… or Bobby
I was today years old when I learned the City of Townsville is also actually a real place, instead of just where the Powerpuff Girls live 😭
I had always heard the story since we moved here.
That poor elephant, I hate that ppl decide to have wild animals and get surprised when they act as such. poor thing didn't have to die especially not as apart of some circus act and its sick that people even wanted to see that. I hope it did haunt him.
I could have gone the rests of my life without hearing this awful story of Mary the elephany and the cruelty she was subjected to. So disgusting what atrocities people are capable of. Im disappointed in Mr. Ballen for even giving this story his time.
I agree with everything you typed except about Mr. Ballen. How are we supposed to learn from our mistakes if we ignore history?
