What an awesome idea that you have shared with us here about that ground radial assembly. Easy to assemble, easy to dismantle, plug and play. Thank you for sharing and 73's.
@@edwhitney1862 You got that right sir, the fun and expirience and the continuance of learning in the hobby that keeps us going. Again thank you so much, DW1-QEW, "Jun" is my nickname, Philippines.
Hi Hp7093. Thanks and glad you liked it. Check out my newest video “Work the world with extension cord radials” for your Screwdriver Antenna. You won’t believe how well it works! -Ed W8EDW. 73
This is a different idea of hooking up the radials. I want to applaud it because you thought of it and it will find preference with some. However, crocodile clips work for me. Well done.👍☘️
This is an excellent mechanical installation, but this Don Johnson screwdriver already has built in impedance matching coil and 4:1 balun is not needed, but choke balun instead. To get 50 Ohm impedance, the coil has to be tuned by making a jumper between ground and the coil. With the SWR analyzer determine how many turns should be shortened to get 50 Ohm. With the proper installation you will not need a tuner to operate the radio. Vertical antenna has about 30 Ohm impedance and with 4:1 balun will be much lower and you will not be able to user your radio without a tuner.
Hey Ed, brilliant work and very clever, especially with the power point/ power cord radials, genius!! Thanks for taking the time to record and post your great work! Cheers.
Nifty idea. I do wonder what the purpose is of the 4:1 Balun. From having run a Tarheel Screwdriver antenna for years myself there is a need for Feed Point Impedance Matching on 40 and 80 meters. I'm guess that is somehow the reason for the Balun.
WOW now that is a great idea and you use inexpensive parts too! I am sharing your video to 3 ham buddies too. My brother is a POTA Machine and has a screw antenna he may not be using. So this is a nice and fun project. Thanks for posting it. I will subscribe and already gave it a big 👍's up.
Hi Wes. The brand of the Screwdriver Antenna is Alpine. Unfortunately the company is gone. The ground system will work with any antenna. That's a great suggestion on finding Extension Cords! -Ed W8EDW
Very clever! Thanks for sharing your idea.
Thanks for the nice comment Javier! -Ed W8EDW

Very good video. This has given me ideas with my screwdriver. Great radial idea. I bought a plate kit from tar heel but this is better

Thanks Ned! Since the Balun makes a nice connection for the coax I’ll short the balun coil and give it try that way. -Ed
LDG has 1:1 BALUN, the same size as the one you have. 73
So far, the build is tidy and clever. Well done!!
Thankyou for watching Finnbhennach! I tried to make it simple, useful and fun. -Ed

Could you post a link to the mounting brackets?
Hi drumhammer305. Go to Amazon.com and put in STSD-AD1-PAIR . It will pop right up.

Hi Dennis. It seems to match somewhat easier and provides a clean feedpoint. It certainly would probably work without it. -Ed W8EDW
👍👍

People will stay away from your radials for fear of being electrocuted, not because they're yellow.
Nice build.
Yep you’re right Joe! LOL ! Thanks for the comment. -Ed. W8EDW
If I did that some knucklehead would come along and plug an AC Mains into it and we all would light up. good work but keep the knuckleheads away.
Hi Lew. Yep, you are right! That’s why I designed the set up with the “female “ ends out. LOL! -Ed W8EDW

What brand/model is the screwdriver?
Nice idea. To buy new extension cords can be costly... 'shop' at yard/garage sales.
