I’ve had my A35 2 months now, it’s exactly how it’s described here. Huge fun without being completely irrelevant on the roads, like more powerful cars.

Sold my RS3 and picked an A 35 AMG up in August. I expected to feel like I’d made some compromises over the RS3, but it almost never feels like it when I’m on the road. It’s an incredibly enjoyable car to drive. Just an amazing package overall.

@@bungle5785 Well then…I’m in good company :) I feel exactly the same way when comparing this one to my 2019 RS3. The Audi was a fantastically well-rounded car, but the joy factor is definitely higher with the A 35.
Yep sold an i30n for the a35 2 years ago. It's my fav cars amongst last year's type r civic and rx8 and the i30n. It's a great all rounder beast❤

Great review! Subscribed! I sold my 2019 Audi RS3 and picked up an A 35 AMG last month. Absolutely amazing car, and I’m honestly enjoying it every bit as much as the Audi, though they are different.
Anyway, I didn’t expect the A 35 to stack up as well as it has…I would go so far as to say that it’s more fun to drive than the RS3, frequently at least. Personally, I think AMG knocked it out of the park with this one

as a bmw fan. i gotta give mercedes benz and the amg a credit where credit it's due. they're doing way better than the bmw and the m right now!
I feel the same! BMW’s are starting to get very bloated in their designs and interiors need a better design.
M2 is still very fun. Only BMW interiors are quite basic.

BMW 6 Cyl engines beat these 4 cylinder "AMG" engines any day, the sound is just not there
That alone would be a reason to pick M140i over these, not to mention M2. Interior is better in Merc for sure
This steering wheel should be an option for every single Mercedes and don’t forget to give the designer a huge bonus.
Thanks for the review Thomas. I am an A250 AMG owner and this A 35 AMG looks like a nice logical step, although for my personal taste, I would delete that rear spoiler which looks like a bit of overkill. I like this new exterior color also.
It's growing on me. That sweet exterior compensates for the 80's interior design. That's a reeeeeally nice blue! Looks perfect for a "hot hatch".

Why Merc designers put a spoiler on A AMG's ? It is useless. Not creating downforce and looks ugly. It takes cars looking from classy to ricer.

Finally a compact daily driver that's taken the generic 5 door hatch look and refined it into something half decent inside and out well done Mercedes.
What's not so great is when you add in the options most will want like LED's, 19's, sport seats, aero pkg and 10inch screens, you start questioning is the expense worth it for a compact hatch.
I think i will wait to see the price diff on a fully loaded A35 AMG and base A45 AMG, also I would not buy brand new for either, were I live there's a over supply of previous gen A45's AMG, better buy's to be had on near new used.

@@timwin7155 Yeah, in Holland they see cars as the ultimate tax facility....each year rules change, in order to balance the budget...and nowadays they can 'use' the climate change reduction goals as another reason to increase taxes…..sad but true.
Same here in Sweden. New car tax policys for 2018. Now its ridiculous expensive to own a sports car.
@Nate D. Higgers Except from car taxes there is no better place to live in Europe I think, together with the German and Scandinavian countries. France really sucks......especially the people that live there....
@WinkelHoof I think Holland and Sweden compable, although in Sweden income is higher, but you pay much more for social security etc. Sweden is nice.

Looks cool (much better than the standard a class) but really not my kind of thing, for this money I’d take a new M240i, or a used 911
Pichkalu Pappita Most people that have money do so because they are good with money. Buying a CPO 911 is smart money. 30% off the sticker with 15k miles? Yes.
@Pichkalu Pappita 911 is an everyday sportscar. 15 000 miles is not that much.
You can get 30-35% off the sticker at that mileage and less than 1 year old. Which is a significant saving for almost new car.

I have an a35 on order and I have followed you’re advice on the seats Thomas, going for the red/black leather seats with premium plus pack without the aero pack in mountain grey metallic and I can’t wait, it’ll be my first Mercedes.
Cool enjoy! My advice would be not for the leather though but for the Microfibre/Leatherette :)

I watch most of your reviews. When you are enthusiastic I know the car is good. It is now July 2020 and we bought this car this month - white with the sport pack minus the spoiler. It is awesome. Replaced an Audi A3 which was much harder riding by the way on 18"wheels. We have the standard sports seats and the car in comfort mode is simply awesome even with 19"wheels. I was waiting for the new Golf 8 GTi but really got sick of waiting - wont see here (in NZ) until 2021 and also I think this AMG A35 is way ahead in this class now. Four ways of using the information - brilliant. Mercedes have done a wonderful job of evolution here. Perfect power level for this car. Steering handling and power delivery (and looks) its out on its own For a while I think. The new AMG 45s is 25% more expensive (very very fast with over 100hp more) and other than on the track it is limited by road conditions and speed limits - as is the A35. A winner!

I'm not sure for AMG model, but in Croatia it is 30K base and AMG will be around 70K EUR Wouter, and we have extra taxes on cars aswell.
If you look at the design of the Mercedes, you get the idea that you have to buy it.

Great, extensive review. Thank you! Would you say that the advanced race seats are somewhat uncomfortable? I am on the fence between them and the standard once, even leaning towards the race seats, but I am afraid they might be a pain on longer rides.
Thanks! Yes. Unless you belong to a short percentage where the supersport seats fit better, you ll be better off with just the base sport seats. Save money, get more comfort.
Better take comfortable ones unless you are always on the track.
The US automotive market generally uses inches/mm for Imperial/metric lengths, both wheelbases and overall lengths.
Foot+inch is more often used in the building trades and architecture/interior design.

Amazing review as always Thomas! Im excited about the release of the new A45 which im considering to get, since practicality is not one of my biggest priorities but sportiness and fun. Also interested on the new C43, i think its a brilliant machine with a pretty sporty and classy look. Since both of them are about the same price in my country what would you get over and why?

Awesome car with GTR-like pops and crackles at the exhaust, but I would still go for TTRS.

On the side of the rear seat squab there is an airbag cover. I have never seen an airbag integrated into the rear seat. Did you catch this @20:17?
Great video review, thanks. Not sure about this car, it’s cool but pretty pricey for a hatchback. I’d compare it to the Type R and although slower, it is probably just as fun and as good or better built, and significantly cheaper. I don’t like that dash?

I'm looking forward to your 2019 BMW X2 M35i review. I'm trying to decide between it and the Golf R. I wonder if that BMW model is anywhere near the Golf R as far as the fun to drive / comfort equation is concerned. I need a hatchback or a similar vehicle for my woodworking projects. But it must be great to drive and reasonably comfortable. And available in the US.
We can drive that early next year!
