As I commented under Ed's battlereport; this culmination of two great channels working towards such an awesome end-battle is hugely inspirational! Many thanks to you both for the amount of work put into this and the sharing of the experience. Please don't stop here 🙂👍
It's so good to see the humble 2nd edition plastic Tacticals in action - miniatures have come so far since their day, but back when I first opened my 2nd edition box they were mighty heroes, and today they are again. I've watched both videos (thanks for the reminder before giving away the result), it really was a great collaboration between the two of you - and on top of everything else, the exchange of gifts at the end would warm even the most cynical of hearts.
People forget that games workshop forged their empire by having the highest quality cheapest miniatures available, they are not cheap anymore but these marines didn't at all break the bank back then. But compared to anything else you could find they were amazing, I mean the alternative kit before these were the beaky marines! Those were horrible!
I started bingewatching your and Ed's videos last week, and it made me start to look into 2nd ed. I had a couple of orks and marines in my stash, a bunch of tokens and templates, plus some misc books - I painted up two minis, one Blood Angel marine and one ork, and now I am looking forward to having more done and trying the game, as I was born a year after the 2nd ed box release, and in a bumfuck nowhere part of Eastern Europe, this era has a nostalgic feeling to me. Thanks for the inspiring videos for the both of you!
@@Miniscape-wh40k hope it will be, only need to hunt down the physical rulebooks :) On a slight sidenote, have you seen the 3d printable orks from Trollet? They are my other source of inspiration for 2nd ed.
Ah, very different video from what I'd been trained to expect. The wife used to refer to her dark times as something very similar to 'The Battle For MaCragge'. Circe is usually seer-say or sir-see depending, somewhat, on which school of attic Greek you prefer. It's the name of a witch in the Odyssey what turned the crew into adorable piglets which ran around all cute and bacony, except for Odysseus who was safe thanks to Holy Moly, who told her off until she changed them back, except for Dave Thessalonicus who'd already been turned into some smashing sandwiches. Lawyers still debate if this was cannibalism. Oh, and, George R. R. R. R. Ooh. R. R. Doc Martin called one of the characters in A Game Of Ice and Cream Circe.
As I said on Minisodes' video, I didn't even know either of you existed until less than a month ago, and now I'm really glad you've done a Collab. Thanks very much for this experience, guys! Also, although this is second edition, I'm weirdly glad to see stuff from later editions creeping in, like those servo-haulers. It's a nice little acknowledgement to the fact that although the old ways are often better, sometimes new things are worth adding to the "Tapestry of Legends", too.
Tapestry of legends is a great term to use, but you make an excellent point. I think every era has it's merits. It's just about finding the best of those.
Excellent!! Love it!! I started with Rogue Trader & The Compendium, then 2nd edition has basically been where we've stayed. With a mixture of all 1st & 2nd edition (and a ton of house rules printed out) they're are 12 of us that still play. We've found that the above rules work best with SEIGE. (There's a 1st edition seige rule book as well) . Plus Necromunda fits seamlessly into 2nd edition. Today between us, we have all armies covered (not all guard regiments) so we cant use 2nd edition for all our games. Really great to see them getting the love they deserve. (Most consider 2nd the worst edition) I Love the fact that your missile launcher was honoured for his actions. I guarantee this will give him confidence for his upcoming battles. Talking alot, i know. (Blame the ale) but.. during the never ending Nid invasion i once had a single Swooping Hawk charged by a single Genestealer. After dispatching the Stealer the Hawk was honoured by having two 'feathers' painted silver. Ah, yes.. 40K.., best game ever. Thanks GW.
great video and mock battle of Macragge! the cute cat painting was a nice gift as was the cool looking errant armor marine. loved the narrative focus as well with the bits of lore like how all of 1st company got wiped out. keep up the good work dude you'll get more subscribers in no time!
What a cool video. I like the whole thing, from the 2nd edition models to the cool terrain. We're those ruins from the 2nd edition cardboard that we're built up to be 3d? Awesome. 👍
@@Miniscape-wh40k the next step is for you guys to eventually host a full 2nd ed “tournament” (but in the friendly mindset of this game rather than a true competitive tournament)

I would love to see you paint a beaky marine boxed set, there are like 25 marines in one of those boxes and they are insane. So hard to build and paint one of those sets so that they look good. Most of the poses make them look drunk. Back in 2nd a load of people still played with 1st edition dreadnaughts and beaky marines, well into 3rd some people still used them!
I would happily accept your challenge but they are not so easy to come by these days. I'm focusing my videos on mainly what I know and those were before my time sadly.
Glorious. A couple mistakes on Ultras side: no Cyclone and no Tigurius. Cyclone launcher could place "pizzas" (hit + misfire applies) on the table that would have wiped whole units (once I killed Abaddon, Kharn, Ahriman and a Termies retinue 'cause they made the grave mistake of being clotted too close in cover). Tigurius had the Hood and the Staff, that with the "warp vortex" power were absolutely terrifying for any opponent. Finally, Calgar had the special rule for multiple combat with the Gauntlets: basically he could have charged into waves after waves of lesser Tyranids and emerge always winner, covered in a thick layer of xenos entrails.
Hah, oh my god I remember that, you could fire all 10 missiles at once and it was almost the most powerful attack in the entire game. Even a refractor field wouldn't save you because you couldn't teleport far enough.
It is at this fateful point that I should admit I totally thought you were both the same person and there was one (amazing) Oldhammer channel I was getting into…

Then when 3rd came out in the whitepaper you got myconid attack, and no one would let you play with that either. Back in the day no one would ever let you play special characters either...
