    I asked Scanner about this performance and here it is in his own words.
    "I used my Submodular Shadow 6U and Empress Zoia pedal in an entirely improvised live performance. I had an idea of how to open the set, with a patch on the Zoia, but from then on in it was a completely wild ride. I enjoy how aspects of the performance seem to appear, without even my knowing what is to follow next. For example I have almost no idea how the dubby section around half-way appeared, and I'd suggest playing the set through some decent speakers to pick up on the low end, which was literally shaking the bones of the spectators at the time.
    With such improvised performances, I like that the audience and I are experiencing this sense of discovery and revelation at the very same time."

    Scanner changed my mind set re live performance . I had seen him do a walk through of his studio and he has a large large collection , but when I saw him live he had a small small rig and just killed it . I realized I could do the same , not have to carry the entire collection , and to take the time to curate what I was going to do with a smaller system . Completely changed my entire outlook on live performance .

      Delighted to hear this. Yes, in such circumstances a smaller set up can be invigorating and inspiring and easier to find your way around too!

    Excellent jam, even Magneto, who was mocking me by the end. The dubby section was so fire, it heated up the knobs. I agree with the recommendation to use headphones or big enough speakers.

      Don't worry, I don't only make ambient music 😀 Plenty of other stuff from wild jazz to noise out there in my catalogue. I like to explore all genres if possible! For example, here's a show with an orchestra, live rock band and electronics reworking the catalogue of Joy Division to give you an example

    This is an amazing performance. I would love to know how he's sequencing/triggering everything. Is that all coming from the Voltage Block? Is the Ansible used for sequencing? So much movement and variation!

    • @RobinRimbaudScanner
      @RobinRimbaudScanner Год назад +4

      Thanks Justin. Take a look at the Modular Grid link above which will help 'understand' the set up, but you are right. Voltage Block is the brain for the entire set. The Ansible wasn't being used for this particular live set. The variation comes through a combination of different modulation and tricks with the QuBit Data Bender. It's a super lightweight fluid set up that allows me a lot of flexibility!

    What do you mean "only 6U of Eurorack" that's all you need for a performance. I keep telling everyone that you don't need a wall of Eurorack to play live.

    • @RobinRimbaudScanner
      @RobinRimbaudScanner Год назад +2

      Not sure if that's a question or not. You most certainly don't need a wall of Eurorack, in fact you can choose what you need or want, of course. Some find comfort and confidence in a bigger set up, but I've found 6U to be more than enough. I have another 3U case with enough sonic possibilities in it too for live performance. Studio work and live work are vastly different adventures for many of us!
