Some of the most famous artists of the world did self portraits as part of their repertoire. A self-portrait is a form of expression in which to develop your style. Watch me paint my self-portrait from start to finish.

Omg. I’m so glad I found you. I am 63 years old. I recently discovered drawing and painting. I can only get better right? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
My name is Gabrielle. I was born in Miami. Good luck in your success Cesar. I’ll keep watching, from California. Blessings
Hats off sir. Im 35 n just discovered the same. Blessings.
I’m 47 and beginning. I think it will be harder for us who are mature, especially as we have more commitments to other things like work and family.
I'm 32 and I decided to get back on painting again.
🖕CALIFORNIA
Jag bara älskar att lyssna på dina kunskaper och hur du blandar historia, konstnärers resor och dina tekniska kunskaper och tips. Du vidgar mina vyer på ett spännande sätt. Tusen tack.
Incredible. Thank you for showing the process. I belong to a self portrait sunday group with many members who are oil painters who are accomplished in this medium. I'm a lowly sketcher and find myself humbled most Sundays. Doesn't keep me from posting my "sketches". Watching this vlog was inspirational and very eye opening.
Utterly incredible and mesmerising to watch!
"If you paint a portrait of first wife... of course you have to paint the portrait of second wife"..his expression after that🤣
I can't keep my eyes off your paintings these are something else!
I discovered you a few days ago. I can't stop watching your videos. I am sure you are an inspiration to many. I am now a huge fan. Shout out to Miami (I live in Fort Lauderdale)
P.S. Dear Viewer, if you want to learn how to paint brilliant portraits (the real thing!!), you should definitely buy Santos's Secrets of Portrait Painting. You won't regret it.
Hello Again, Mr.Angel! I did just that and It never comes out of my player. This young man has become my favorite teacher after 45 years of trying to learn to paint! Painting has now put me in another world! I thank both of you! Jimi
Jimmie Sutton
45 years of trying ?? Really ?? :O
Where is it?? How do we gain access
@@kantumichael3183 You can order it at Steamline video it really worth the price.
I just love your enthusiasm! Your talent and your enthusiasm will no doubt inspire many artists who are looking for a creative influence.
Amazing.... Awesome... Look like original old master's hand.......
I've been trying to get your portrait painting video since It came out. My wife ordered it for me for Christmas! It should arrive next week. I can't wait! I never learned classical painting in art school. Hoping this will bump up my game!
WAMELING ART fo sho!! Let me know
I love the dvd set, Cesar. I mlearning a lot. Mostly reminding myself to take my time and pay attention to what I'm looking at. Its not a race. Thank you so much Cesar. I look forward to your Vlogs too. Please, keep them coming.
Cesar Santos, I'm so glad you have created this series. I love portraits and I had been feel guilty because I tend to do self portrais, but it's great practice. I am learning to use oil. And when I came across your videos it encouraged me to pursue portrait painting. My favourite is August Renoir's work. I can only hope practice my skills and become as good as my Art mentors.
I encourage you to continue your educational Art videos, it will be a great tool to future generations and for all Novice Artist like me. Thanks !!!
The 1640 portrait is my favourite, the colours and brushwork are out of this world.
Love the griselle then the unifying glaze then the fortifying of the darks before the first painting pass
Your work is outstanding. I painted and sold paintings as a child then as I got older, I became a graphic designer. I am now 71 and painting again. Hope to show my work. Thanks and Lord bless you.
Hey man! It was your best opening speech ever! Amazing from the first second until the last one!
From Harry Gray: Cesar... You are the reason I have so many sleepless nights. Rather I wake up and it's a toss up. Do I watch pastel videos, Acrylic painters (as I am allergic to oils) Fly fishing or Cesar Santos. A former student of mine who is in his 5th of 6 years of art school sent me your way. I am so thrilled you post so much knowledge and skill into short informative videos. This one is poetry! My former student Elias L. might just have to receive this as a graduation gift... but what good would that do when he could use it now. He is very accomplished in his portraiture and although he is working on his Art teaching degree, I feel portraiture will be his pursuit. Blessing to you and your willingness to share. I only wish I had been introduced to you years ago (but at this stage in your life) and could have used you as a great example that there is GOOD reason to study the works of the masters. And I add, you too are an example of a living Master.
Wow that was such an incredible process to watch. I kept thinking it was finished but all the small additions were necessary once they were there! Also the underpainting process was surprisingly detailed. Thanks for the great vlogs Cezar! ✌
Me gustó mucho tu self-portrait.
Me encanta q en tus videos tomes en cuenta a los grandes maestros de la pintura y hables sobre sus pinturas.
Saludos desde Zacatecas, México.

Mr. Angel, Just to say hello to you again; I emailed you earlier and mentioned I was In Florence not long ago but was unaware or familiar with where the Academy is! I thank you so kindly for that wonderful response and personal invitation to visit with you when I'm there next summer, Lord willing! Looking forward to meeting you, My Dream!!!Thanks again, Jimi

You are a great artist, and teacher. Anyone could learn a lot from you
Stunning .. I wonder how Nepolean would have felt when he saw his finished painting ... damn. So good.
Really impressive. A work of art. Thanks for your channel. Inspirational.
Wonderful painting!!! A real master!
best time laps i ever seen in youtube. amazing process.
I´m totally in love with everything you do... stunningly beautiful. Motivates me to keep on developing my own skills against all odds! Thanks for that
Great video! I love the fact you always bring up the greats.
This was so incredible, especially seeing how you build up in your colors and decisions.
I love this guy. Great work and so much enthusiasm.
i am glad to watch this portrait art, it's wonderful to watch
Cesar, your passion is infectious! Your talent and skill masterful! So glad I found you. Going to order your CD, if still available.
Wow 5 minutes for that painting! and that hand speed!
Hhahahahah lol
Thank you for this amazing video. I’m blown away by your talent.
wow great video! Superb time lapse and self-portrait painting.
So masterful! Thank you for the glimpse into your technique.
I have been looking for this style and just found it. Thank you.
Why did I chuckle with that painting the 2nd wife commentary, I don't know, haha. Wonderful painting as always.
That portrait in the back looks awfully good to me..
You are a great, great artist, you work always inspire me.
Tus secretos al descubierto. Me encanta
Cesar, brother I know you are in such demand that you don’t have time to go through comments like mine, but I wanna tell you how incredibly helpful your videos are and how awesome your work is. To hear you talk, the enthusiasm for painting is so contagious, that I hafta always be near my pallet when I watch! Your work is astounding. To think you had time to do ANYTHING else in your life is likewise amazing, let alone to speak so eloquently in multiple languages!
One day I hope to rival only your confidence as It’s taken you decades to demonstrate the ease, the know how, & the instant recognition of awesome processes used throughout history. So without intending to, ive let this comment turn into a “fiesta naríz marón,” of sorts.
Thank you, brother fer all yer hard work! Hope someday to shake yer hand & show ya what I’ve learned...

dear Cesar, I turned 30 yesterday, so in quest of self- knowledge (the Greek "γνῶθι σαὐτόν") I started painting my first self-portrait, your video is really helpful , thank you so much! I just have one question, at the moment 07 : 27 you aplly something white-brown that tones down the face, I wondered , is it just liquin (or smthing similar ) & paint or is it something else... thank you so much I love your videos & admire your art, like everyone else
Gracias.
How many days, actual hours, did this portrait take? It's amazing...I thought it was finished many times before the ending...Thank you so much.
Awesome video as always, you Sir are a huge inspiration! Thank you!
Wonderful painting
Thanks so much for this great inspirational video. Even when I find it very intimidating but worth the try. I will do a self portrait! Lol. Just amazing! Please let me know in a few words some suggestions on how to loose the fear when painting portraits and best way to get the likeness. You are out of this world! Abrazos. Blessings and be safe.
Seeing this along with your vid on your first self portrait is very helpful. Watching instructional videos by artist with vastly more experience than me can be very discouraging. Seeing what they can do after 20 to 30 years of experience isn't always that helpful.
You are an amazing artist and teacher!
Nice painting. Was this from a mirror or a photograph?
Wow buen análisis del autorretrato!!!!
I am seriously in love with your energy..
I can watch this video again and again!😍
i love ure views abt fine art..... ure the truest artist
I literally just finished a self Portrait Tuesday, I’m excited to do a new one that’s more stylized since this one was simply realistic
Awesome painting! I love your videos. But in a video that lists popular self-portrait painters, I was very disappointed not to see Frida Khalo mentioned. 😔
Very beautiful self portrait, artist,,very nice ,,I try to home self portrait artist
Wonderful work Cesar!I am also very impressed from Frida Kahlo self-portraits.What about a video with her work? Thank you for sharing.
I like your crazy videos ! Good job
Great video ! Thanks for sharing ! Hopefully I’ll see you at Art Basel this year 🙌🏼
Acere, you are a beast!! Blessings
I wanted to see popular artists as examples who are still alive
Check out Jenny Saville's work. Many are self portraits.
Thank you for your great generosity and kindness.
Fantastic demonstration. Is this process entirely alla prima or are you allowing any dry times between layers?
Another great video ..mil gracias !
Wow Cesar, a beautiful demo, thanks...
Woah what you just said is poetry my friend
Thanks so much for doing this one! Super helpful.
Such a great portrait artist
Absolutely love your videos 😀😄
Just amazing! You had inspired me to signed up for atelier class
Cesar, I notice that you even split the grisaille into two stages, did you allow for that patchy block-in to dry before doing the second pass on it?
Needless to say, an outstanding demonstation of technique! Many thanks.
It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child. ”
-Picasso
thanks Cesar, great self portrait!
Eres extraordinario Cesar
Are you using thin glazes or opaque colors over the grisaille?
Love your Paintings btw ❤
Humorous and informative as always... :)
Gran video como siempre 😃
wow very nice
Трохи щось зрозумів!дякую!
It seems like you completed this in one 'sitting', how long did it take you to complete? You are simply amazing!
Peter Loudon the magic of time-laps, each layer has to dry
Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Great video! I really like your self-portrait! Stunning. :)
Dear mr Santos, Thank you very much for all the inspiration, you definately contributed to me becoming a better Artist and painter.
Love this short tutorial it's very helpful
but what actually happens at 7:30 in the video? is it blending ? some sort of glaze?
thanks again, I hope to see a lot more from you,
Sincerely Edwin Groenewold
He looks like maybe he sealed in the painting but I have no idea why he wouldve done this
Magnificent work! At the 7:03 mark did you let the paint dry before you went over it refining everything or just wet in wet?
Awesome video, glad I ran into yours, thanks
Nice video and portrait!!
it seems like the circle you are doing in the beginning of the sketch really help you catch the perspective of it , i wonder how should i know where to place that circle working from a picture or what not , the formula of it
What exactly is he doing at 7:29, can someone explain? It looks like he's applying a light greyish/ brownish wash to define the base color of the face, but I would really appreciate if someone could help me out. :)
I think it is a thin layer of tierre verte. It has been used for centuries as an underpainting for the flesh tones.
Fantastic video!
Hi Cesar, loved your self-portrait video! I'd like to know if you had to use a limited palette of colors, which ones would you choose? I love using a limited palette because of the harmony and mixing involved. I love Zorn's palette as well. Thanks!
Always keeping it gangsta! Great stuff man keep em coming
Incredible!
@cesar how many layers did it took you to finish the painting?
Hi, i am still strugeling with proportions, especially extreme facial expressions and your video will be of great use. However it is out of stock on Amazon.
Cesarsantos.com !!
Felicidades eres un excelente pintor, me gustaría saber que combinación de colores usaste para aplicar la veladura verdosa en el rostro después de hacer la valoración de tonos?
This is really helpful and inspiring. Thanks for posting these! How do you know when to stop painting? For me, it's so difficult knowing when the balance is struck between accuracy and the painting being overworked. Thanks again, stay awesome :)
You are an amazing person!
