After 30 years as a representational painter I started working in this method. I believe that this is actually what one practises seeing, and technique for. This is actually where one departs from painter to become "artist". This is what you do when you graduate from the school of technique and formality. It also makes you feel very satisfied to have created something unique and truly your own. Good to see you doing it Cesar!
Hey Cesar, I have been fascinated by your recent work. I read in the comments that people interpret your art differently; some don’t understand, some are angry, some see nothing at all, and some others percive a variety of things. It’s funny how I have been staring your paintings for hours in search of answers, and I laugh because I understood the frustration of other people in the comments. You gave no answers; the only explonation I got were my own made-up meanings I gave to the forms I was trying to make sense of, which made me realize a lot. Thank you for the reflection you raised in me through your art. I wish you all the best!
I actually really appreciate growth and change. I know that a lot of artists dont appreciate comparison, but i have noticed that Jared French started down the line of pure form as well. A lot of people don't understand that the heart knows the matter that the matter knows not. Keep following your instincts, i think its always for the best
I’ve admired your precise figurative work for many years. I love this different, non objective or abstract change in direction. Paintings that come from within, perhaps multidimensional. Reminds me of Hilma af Klint. Thanks for sharing your work.
good point. we should just enjoy the creative work for what it is, our brain putting colours together to create something from our imagination and can inspire other people's brain
One thing i should add on this topic is that “art”, from music to painting, should always preserve a sense of conversation between Who makes it and who observe it. The idea is thst at some point artists starts to self celebrate thier meta cognition soliloque and thats when the medium starts to lose its true potential. Art shouldnt speak only about the one that makes it but more importantly about everyone observing it, thus remaning intelligeble
Although I am not necessarily a fan of abstraction………this is wonderful! Cesar, you are truely magnificent in you use of paint..A TRUE MASTER!……..thank you so much for sharing. When will they be opening the Cesar Santos Museum????. That would be amazing, to be able to visit your own personal museum………you don’t need to have passed / died to have your own museum…….truely a pleasure to the eyes and soul. ❣️🙏🏻🎨😎😇🤩
This is easily one of the coolest art related videos I’ve ever seen. The narration is thought provoking, editing and filming is engaging, and the painting is stunning! Well done man
Hello. I would like to express how exciting this is to see from you. What a excellant vid to pop up now at the moment i began to watch. The contrast in this new direction. In opposition to the old. Lends the bridge between them and the idea is. It can be. It will be. Im inspired. Thank you my friend. Good luck.
Thank you for the video. Ive seen your art develop over the years. Would you say this stage of your art is like perfection of surrealism as it is pure form without subject matter recognition or definition?
Inventive in his pure form, like watching Picasso changing shapes in that documentary. We NEED to do that from time to time to escape from reality and formalism, starting with lose, firm, strong and soft brush strokes, that is fun and happy, pure childish freedom; then, our brain fill and organize shapes, like when we try to match clouds or floor imperfections with images. All that is personal, but, as you continue "improving" realism, I already can understand what you are up to and, at one point, I can see I would be doing something like you did, because now is more "formal", it's a logical improvement. Exactamente igual que la libertad de dibujar un drapeado, pero que contiene un "por qué" está hecho así y sabes que tiene sentido. Un saludo y gracias por compartir
Dear Cesar, i dont know from what realm are this figure? But you beushstrokes are so abstract just for high realismo.Brushwork 10/10 also composition is wow this is imposible to make reproduction no traces help, so many angles ,this is masterpiece, pricles.. Impossible works.❤❤❤ Wish i know to make something like this.
It always requires a lot of words, while you actually want to communicate with an image. Siempre requiere muchas palabras, mientras que en realidad quieres comunicarte con una imagen.
the reaction to your recent work has been interesting lol people are obsessed with understanding and then get frustrated because there's no answer given they cant seem to just embrace the uncertainty, or go beyond understanding only through the eyes some even have the attitude to think they can tell you what type of work is a waste for you to do lol i saw some say that hopefully you come back from this journey soon but perhaps its their journey with you thats come to an end some said at least great works made them think but they struggle to figure this out, but is that struggle not thinking, perhaps the works they say made them think just gave them answers. ive noticed its like people want to be told the correct thing to think, and with figurative things like anatomy etc make it easy to tell "good" and "bad" and some said they cant even tell if your recent works were good or bad which frustrates them lol they cant say in good faith that they like it off feel, mood etc they need the safety of objective errors like anatomical to validate their opinion and not be open to ridicule. ironically i saw one that said you going to abstract shows u never had imagination lol these responses show so much of our species the need for answers and certainty fear of not "getting it" limits we've placed on thinking, imagination and concepts like that sometimes art is an experience, there is no destination, nothing to get, just the experience of viewing the artwork, and the primal and instinctual responses it gets from you as a person and individual. art is expression, and somethings cant be expressed concretely, they have to be felt etc all in all the reactions to your current work from some of your fans has been very interesting. funny enough im not a figurative person myself, but your current work has been nothing short of masterful, from from a technical and expressive standpoint.
@@santocesart thank you for the response, big fan, your video helped me use a sketchbook for oil paintings back in school. looking forward to see more of your journey and artistic experience.
hi! Cesar, how are you? Whenever I don't understand something about painting, I often watch your videos, it helps me a lot in learning. Will there be any book related to figure painting atelier? From which I can learn figure painting like ateliar.
I'm wondering what type of art movement Cesar's new works would be classified as, if there could be a classification? Abstract Expressionism? Abstract Realism?
Good video . Interesting video. You mention _your fortunate to have large space_ which _allows you to play with Large canvas_ . You also mention _thinking_... Also in 2023- *now cause of technology* More _people have access_ to technology and _many folks can share their fine art works_ thanks to the Internet & their are tons of wonderful artists. You can imagine the Landscap from your Sleeping dream , imagine the Color , imagine the Composition, imagine every detailing , imagine everything on your Canvas without the Photo , because This is your own World inside your Deeply Minds just like Vincent VanGogh . I think that it would look awesome if you would mix the realistic figures with an abstract expressionistic background and paint drips. Mixing old and new.
I've been painting abstract for a few years now, and find that no-one appreciates it, or engages with it as much. galleries, other artists, collectors.. no-one seems to give it as much time as they do when the painting is something realistic, something recognisable, and has subject matter, visually. is that just a human thing ? that only high end art has to be super realistic, like a photo... ? is there a snobbiness in the fine art world, that these kinds of paintings are true talent, and abstracted, personal works are not.. ? i feel more and more misunderstood and lonely when i paint this way. i feel disconnected, but i blame this on trying to show the online world what i have created, which more and more i am finding is a waste of time and energy, an energy best stored, and used to make even better works. but then the problem is, no-one will ever see them... anyway, i don't know if you feel the same, but that's just my thoughts on what I've experienced when trying to make more personal abstracted works of art. ciao
The dominant forms in your paintings are like piles of laundry that have blob forms underneath them, sometimes with vague human parts. Reminds me of that crayola simkins guy. Honestly those paintings could last a long time.. but they have a creepy anti-nature anti-natural lighting effect... I must ask you is that really the kind of vibe you want to put out into the world? When you create a painting you are creating another world and to be honest the ones that you are creating, though they may be bigger and more technical/profitable than others... It is not a world that inspires me or one that brings peace or curiosity. Your paintings look like piles of death with human clothing void of life or joy. Why did you abandon nature and nature's true forms, and the movement and lighting of nature?
Hey Mr. Santos, I’m a visual artist that is wondering if I can get in contact with you. I’ve got a degree in painting from a Liberal Arts school and I’m not sure if I should pursue training at Lyme Academy or go try and pursue a career as a movie director. I live in the Midwest, about as far as you can get from movie making. I enjoy visual art, but I don’t enjoy being isolated and worry about my life if I pursue painting further. I don’t want to be just a hobbyist. All of my friends left for the coasts. I’m just not sure where to go in my life. Do you have any advice as a professional artist?
Beautiful building up in layers, like the old masters worked, and different applications, thin washes and dry scumbling. I see crumpled fabric and fleshy appendages, abstract surrealism.

You are a very talented artist. But what you are drawing is mind-boggling. It is a pity that you are wasting your time and paint on such art. You could draw much better pictures. 😊
wasting time and paint is solely your opinion... too bad your restraint is so weak that you are blinded by its existence. My hope for you is, the doors of perception are unlocked, and allow you to enter the freedom of expression. Growth is freedom from restraint.

some even have the attitude to think they can tell you what type of work is a waste for you to do lol
i saw some say that hopefully you come back from this journey soon but perhaps its their journey with you thats come to an end
some said at least great works made them think but they struggle to figure this out, but is that struggle not thinking, perhaps the works they say made them think just gave them answers.
ive noticed its like people want to be told the correct thing to think, and with figurative things like anatomy etc make it easy to tell "good" and "bad" and some said they cant even tell if your recent works were good or bad which frustrates them lol
they cant say in good faith that they like it off feel, mood etc they need the safety of objective errors like anatomical to validate their opinion and not be open to ridicule.
ironically i saw one that said you going to abstract shows u never had imagination lol
these responses show so much of our species
the need for answers and certainty
fear of not "getting it"
limits we've placed on thinking, imagination and concepts like that
sometimes art is an experience, there is no destination, nothing to get, just the experience of viewing the artwork, and the primal and instinctual responses it gets from you as a person and individual.
art is expression, and somethings cant be expressed concretely, they have to be felt etc
